Fresh would be an understatement. First time in. We were greeted and had our order taken in the clean bright interior. The Don's Super Italiano was served on fresh bread and was a large portion. Al of the meats were flavorful and the veggies fresh. The Melbourne Bulldog was a delicious ham and turkey sub made my way. All the ingredients were fresh with all the meats and cheese cut to order. We made combos and props for size of chips. Not the small size but a true portion. And the tea was sweet and delicious. Trust me, my better half is a sweet tea connoisseur and it passed muster. " best I have had in years." Protip: they will wrap half to go when they make it. Two meals for one price. SCORE!!! Lastly and most importantly the staff were very friendly. As a first time diner at Done and I ordered ahead and talked to.some teenager that could not easily what I wanted. Finally we got that all taken care Of, we'd be there in 15 minutes. Walked in and gave the name on the order : Schultz took the 2 sandwiches home . one was supposed to be an Italian and the other was Somme sort of beef sub with tomato and provalone, oil and vinegar and was to be cold. My sandwich was to have been a simple Italian COLD with oil and vinegar S&P both sandwiches were bagged and paid for with a rather HEAVY price tag for what was bagged. My simple Italian sub with oil and vinegar was Hot both temperature and taste! My sandwich was so tightly wrapped , it looked old and was so overly stuffed with the hottest Cappicola I have ever been served .As if it wasn't hot enough from the happy the heated it to death. The supposed beef was hot and was never requested hot and the bread was soaked with oil. It's been a while since I've been back but today was a great day. I was warmly greeted by the young lady at the counter. My order was taken. Today it was a pastrami on rye, warm, with mustard. A drink to wash it down. I paid at the counter and filled my drink while my sandwich was being carved. Love it when a place carves a sandwich right in front of you. The first time I went to Don's about a year ago I used their convenient drive-thru... I recently went again, for only my second time, and I went with a couple of coworkers at lunch time and we dined in. As a little bit of a chunky girl, seating comfort is very important to me. The majority of the seating was, what I call, old style diner booths, with a couple of standard table and chairs tucked in the back by the restrooms. I ordered a small Turkey hoagie with my choice of toppings and a small drink. The sandwich was bigger than I expected for a small, and the taste of it was extremely fresh, and by that I mean, the bread was soft, you could taste the turkey and you could taste the peppers and all the individual ingredients on it and it was delicious as a whole. I thought it a tiny bit pricey, even though it was bigger than expected, for a regular routine lunch spot... For an occasional lunch with coworkers, it will do just fine. Although for me because of the seating issue, I would probably be more of a drive-thru customer. So I would smile, make brief eye contact, and then quickly look away for fear of angering this great man My perspective changed a few years ago, when I was with my mother at the local country club and, lo and behold, in walked Don and his wife. My first thought was "Hooray! An everyday hard-working guy had made it." He moved effortlessly among the financial elites with ease. Finally, after 25 years, I summoned up enough courage to approach Don. I shook his hand and introduced myself, telling him how much I admired him and his business model. To my surprise, he was a kind, easy-going person and we chatted for a few moments. For several years afterwards, I would go to his restaurant and find him in the zone - barking orders and yelling as per usual, but now I knew the truth of the man behind the mask. Everything is good here. I have been getting the Challenger Hoagie (named after the Space Shuttle) for years. Nothing has changed - you get the same amount of meat you did 30 years ago. The price has gone up, but it is well worth it - loaded up with ham, turkey, capicola, and all the fixin's. If you are the lone person who has never yet been to Don's, I highly suggest you go.
