Went to Mash Hogies the other day. I got a roast beef sub. The meat was so thick, I've never seen that much meat on a sub. And it was delicious. Best sub I've had in awhile. The service was good, 2 people working and they weren't slacking. It seating was good, plenty of room. Handicapped accessible. Plenty of parking. Wanted to try something different. I believe for some strange reason I have tracking cookies? Because I was on Social media and everything from Melbourne to Palm Bay restaurants kept popping up online. I'm a sucker for a good sub and Mash Hoagies, had decent reviews. We arrived 10 minutes from the hotel. Mash Hoagies was in a plaza with other commercial stores like Ollie's. I ordered the special, which consisted of 1/2 Blake the Colonel. Its consisted of ham, turkey and roast beef. I put the regular fixings mayo, mustard, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes and cup of turkey chili which my significant other end up eating. My step son ordered a Cuban sandwich and almost forgot purchased a side of fries. The sandwich tasted pretty good very meaty with the condiments enhancing the flavors. My boyfriend had a steak with cheddar cheese and stated he has had better. The sandwich to me was okay?, nothing to rave about. **INITIAL REVIEW** Out of all the sub and hoagie restaurants located within southern Brevard County, specifically Palm Bay, Malabar, and Bayside Lakes, the one location that is both historic and iconic is Mash Hoagies (which I will shorthand simply to Mash for the remainder of this review). Mash has been in the same location for literal decades in the Palm Bay West just north of Winn Dixie (soon to be Aldi) and Little Ceasar's. First and foremost, Mash isn't the most visually-appealing place to eat. The dining room setup and colors are definitely out of the 70s, the time when the show the restaurant is based on, M*A*S*H*, came out. The walls right above each both showcases handdrawn charicaures of the actors in character. The cleanliness of the restaurant is up-to-par but more on the lines of better than fast food but just as good as fast casual. What makes Mash one of the best places to get your hoagies are three things: the family friendliness, the better-than-fair prices, and the overall deliciousness of the food. As an example, I will describe one of my orders with them, the "Italian Special" known as the Hawkeye. Named after the character, Hawkeye Pierce, played by Alan Alda and Donald Sutherland, the footlong sandwich consists of ham, capicola, salami, and provolone. You can load any sandwich to the brim with basic ingredients with premium ingredients costing a little bit more. But for $12 for a homemade behometh of a sandwich that is sure to feed a regular person three meals a day, it is a delicous steal. Add on top that the staff is friendly and sometimes will have a nice conversation with you while they make your sandwich. As mentioned earlier, Mash is homegrown with multiple decades serving the community. They have developed a family feel that has kept them more than alive and kicking through the highest highs like when Palm Bay West was the "it strip mall" for Palm Bay (because it was the only major strip mall in Palm Bay) to downward slumps like the (illegal?) pandemic. My suggestion is Carissa. She is very kind and she's been the one to make my sandwich almost every single time I have been there since I started Yelp (Eliting!). I must stress that overall, Mash does not have "the best" particular sandwich I can think of off the top of my head, but they are more than satisfactory and acceptable. For example, I can name a couple of Cuban restaurants that do better Cuban sandwiches than Mash (Hemingway's Tavern and El Ambia for example), but you can't go wrong if you want a Cuban from them either for convenience, price, etc. Given the many times I have been here pre-Yelp as well during my Yelp career, I am going to give Mash a five-out-five star rating. They've always been delicious with good food, good prices, and good service. As for restaurants within Palm Bay West, you can't go any better. read more

Experience: I had a bought a group a while back and needed to use it up, and just happen to be in the area. It was a Saturday morning at 10:45. Facility: This is a small place located in a strip mall with Winn Dixie a few stores down. There are some tables and chairs to sit on if you want to stay. They have a ton of snacks out along the counter where you order and drink station on the opposite wall. Service: 5/5 Megan helped me and she was nice and patient. She talked me through the popular items and helped me narrow down my selection since there are a lot of choices. I ordered my food to go. I have to give extra kudos to the way they so thoughtfully packed the food. The sandwich was in nice thick paper so the oil won't leak through. They put a piece of cellophane over the salad to help keep it in place. They actually put napkins, utensils and crackers in for my salad. And they put things in separate paper bags for protection. Food: Italian - 4/5 unfortunately the bread was stale. But the meats and toppings were delicious... could use a little more salt and pepper though. But I love the way they wrapped a piece of ham around the toppings so they don't fall out when you take a bite. With fresh bread, this would have been a 5/5. Chef salad - 5/5 this salad was giant! Loved the toppings and the value for your money. Cheese sticks 2/5 They cook these in an air fryer and it is very obvious. Maybe some people prefer it this way, but the breading is just too bread-y when they don't fry it traditionally in oil. It's not as crunchy and it is lacking some of the flavor from the oil. I know you are saving my heart some of the bad fats, but maybe it's just a personal preference but I just don't like these cooked in an air fryer. Overall: I like this place. I will come back and try some more options. read more

I hadn't been here in a while. I ordered the meatball parm hoagie and a side of fries. I would pass on the meatball parm. The bread was super fresh and the cheese was great. The meatballs are bland and the sauce is also. The tips of the fries were burnt. If you want to take the time and cut off the tips, then the fries will be good. They also have curly fries. Mash Hoagies is a very old local sub shop. This place has been open longer than ive lived in Palm Bay! The interior is a little date but clean and taken care of. Hard to point anything out. The owners do a really good job. The lady working was very nice, said hello when I walked in and yellee goodbay and thank you from the back as I was leaving. I appreciate good service. Food: I got a hoagie from the hoagie shop. The sub was good. One thing I noticed, in these old sandwiches shops. The mustard just taste different. I could even say its old world flavor at this point in my life. Its as if they make it on site. Having these old school flavors in your mouth gave me flash backs of when they had 1 pinball machine in the back and id beg to go here while my parents shopped at Winn Dixie. Bottom line: Mash is a great place with owners who are consistently great and work hard to shine. While most people will not relate to the charters name and subs. Its ok, its a working recipe. This was our 1st time at Mash Hoagies. There were 4 of us plus we got 2 hoagies to go so some friends. We had the hot pastrami with cheese, a Ruben, an Italian sub and a hot pastrami with coleslaw and mustard. The server brought my hot pastrami without the coleslaw and when I reminded her that it was supposed to have coleslaw on it she replied "I only have 2 hands!" I found her response rude. Long story short, my parents bought a plot of land near here years and years ago, so I came to see it and then needed some eats. Mash Hoagies is located in a strip mall in Florida (shocking no one). They do make a ridiculously delicious hoagie. The interior is pretty stark and cafeteria-y, but based on all the reviews I had to stop. It also had two large tvs, one on baseball and the other showing soccer. There was plenty of seating, but I was on of only a few customers. It was also one of the few places in Palm Bay open on Sunday that I was interested in going to. I ordered the Hawkeye (first thing on the menu and their signature hoagie). I love me an Italian hoagie too. It came out on soft bread, and cut in half. I was a bit taken aback by the meat layer on top originally because I thought it was paper. I then realize the FREAKIN GENIUS of this is to keep in all the fixings. So smart! I briefly spoke with the owner and he told me the history of Mash Hoagies and that he plans to expand to other locations in the future. The staff was super nice and they accommodated me when I realized that it was near closing time and also near dinner time (it was a late lunch) so they wrapped the other half for me. As a dasher, you come across tons of restaurants you desire to try and help you decide what you desire to eat that day. I desired a Philly steak and wanted to give this place a try. It's a nice place in a standard store setting, you can see the employees prepare your food, plenty of seating and a clean place. Staff is very friendly and accommodating if you have children who have different food to be allowed to eat their food in the restaurant. That won special attention from me. The sandwich was ok, I was glad I did only get half as you can see in the picture. There is nothing special about the sand which. The presentation sucked, I enjoyed the peppers and onions, but would've preferred them cooked. The steak was bland, not seasoned or giving off a happy feeling. I normally don't do mayonnaise, but I'm glad I did this time because it helped the sandwich. The choice of hoagie they used was excellent .
