Honestly, Kolaches are better than Shipley solely because the bread is so much softer and not so much of it. However a little stale which is odd since I came in the morning? Regardless, great selection. AND SO CHEAP. I got three kolaches, half a dozen donut holes, and a cinnamon sugar donut all for 7$!!! The dough is amazing here, it's definitely home made and super fluffy and not at all dry or dense like other places. It's also extremely budget friendly, i ordered a cheese kolache , a coconut donut and a dozen doughnut holes and it was only $5. every time i go in everyone is super nice and will answer any questions you have. the store is also very clean. i would definitely stop by if your in san marcos!! read more

It's been a while since tried this place. My husband got some donuts,apple fritters and sausage kolaches from here on Sunday.the donuts were mediocre, the sausage kolaches were cold and almost tasted like yesterdays and the apple fritters didn't taste as good as they used to be, didn't taste as fresh and were considerably smaller than we remembered. I don't know what oils they use to fry these in, but they were not great tasting. These fake oils are just no good for you. But, let's face it, they want the cheapest oil because that increases their profit margin but leaves the taste rather flat. read more

Considering I live less then half a mile from this place it's safe to say I've had it 20+ times . The apple fritters and croissant breakfast sandwiches have raised my bar for donut places my entire life . ( sad or glorious ??? I've passed by this place a million times since it is just down the street from my apartment. I finally decided to give it a try. I've had good donuts but I've definitely had better. The service could be so much better than what I experienced. The lady who helped me was extremely rude and was on her Bluetooth headset the entire time while I was trying to order. I was very confused if the lady was trying to talk to me or be continue talking on her phone. They had a wide variety of donuts to choose from as well as some kolaches. Great place. You can always count on a Donut Palace no matter what town you're in. They are all the exact same. Always fast, friendly and fresh. Can't ask for more in a local donut shop. Donuts are soft and fresh and the selection is huge. Their croissant Kolache and regular Kolaches are good. Oh Donut Palace, how I love thee, let me count the ways... The apple fritter is a damn triumph, so perfectly glazed with a caramelized chewiness and bits of apple mixed in. I need one now! Their cake donut is done right as well; my favorite being the chocolate glazed old fashioned (aka sour cream). I can only speak for the donuts here, as that is the only thing to buy at any donut shop. The service is always friendly. Best chocolate cake donut I've ever had. Thin crunchy outer layer surrounding sweet moist cake. Enough chocolate frosting to hold the nuts. I didn't want the donut to end! The apple fritter and blueberry donut were also loved in our group. And the chocolate eclair donut was very full with not overly sweet cream that was a whole meal in itself. I'm from a small town where the only donut place we had was a Donut Palace. It was my favorite! The donuts were always so soft! So much better than Shipley's or Krispy Kreme.
