Between 2, a big bowl of galbi-tang served with rice and a regular order of steamed dumplings was more than enough to satiate our hunger. The dipping sauces for each respective order paired nicely with the food. On another visit, I thoroughly enjoyed the soondaeguk and left feeling happily stuffed. Dookbaeki might just be my default local spot for soups. With a large seating space, we were seated immediately (came just after 8 on a Thursday evening with a party of 6) though they can get busy! It was quiet when I arrived for an early lunch. Typical of many Korean restaurants, there is a service bell at the booth which makes it easy to flag down a server. I went for the sogogi dolsot bibimbap. It was served quickly and came with a large variety of banchan. I loved the bottle of spicy red sauce and probably added way too much, but it was so tasty. The rice crisped up on the dolsot at the bottom and provided a nice texture. The kimchi banchan was delicious so was the fish cake banchan. I recently saw a few foodies post about this spot so I assume they're going to get pretty busy soon. I will try and get a group of friends next time so we can try more things. Got to try the cold noodles and the pork cutlet which were both very good. Definitely a solid place if you're craving Korean food in the area. It's still summer when I went so I didn't want any hot soups but I think that's what their specialty is. I would love to come back on a cold winter day and try their soup and their steamed dumplings! Dookbaeki is a Korean restaurant that has a vast menu! We went there on a Thursday evening and it was pretty empty. We were easily able to find a table for 5 people. The restaurant is spacious and they have a little bell on each table that you press when you are ready to order or want to ask for the bill. For appetizers, we got their corn and cheese + their cheese Tteokbokki which came with cheesy Tteokbokki and fish cakes. The corn and cheese was not bad but it lacked flavour, could have used more salt but the cheese pull was good. The Cheese Tteokbokki was pretty good though! All their food is served on stone bowls which maintains the heat pretty well. I got their beef bibimbap with side dishes. It was really good! We went to Dookbaeki for my sister's birthday dinner, and overall, it was just okay--nothing terrible but nothing special either. Food: The bossam was good--the pork was tender and flavorful--but the sides were disappointing. I was expecting the usual napa cabbage and kimchi to pair with it, but all we got were garlic, lettuce, and sauce. While they did serve kimchi with the starting side dishes, it was surprising not to have any included with the bossam itself, which is pretty standard at most Korean places I've been to. The cheese corn was sweeter than expected. I didn't mind it too much, but most of my party absolutely hated it, so it wasn't a hit at the table. I ordered the blood sausage soup, and honestly, it was bland. My sister ended up adding a bunch of seasoning to make it halfway decent. The one standout was the spicy intestine soup. My friend ordered it, and we all agreed it was flavorful and easily the best dish of the night. My sister got the bibimbap and liked it, but it was super filling. All in all, the soups were the best part, but the rest of the meal didn't really leave an impression. Service: The staff were nice and helpful. Great all around Korean restaurant - big, clean and inviting - they specialize in having a bone broth that takes 2-3 days to make, and becomes the base for other soups or jigaes. I haven't been here in almost a year and it was pretty good the last time so decided to go after Hansol was full and there were other parties already on their waitlist. Everyone in our party agreed that the food was mediocre at best and we've had a lot of different Korean food ranging from home cooking to high end. I was so disappointed that their banchan was bland, especially the diakon that just tasted watered down. All of the stone dishes didn't cone out piping hot like they are supposed. The bimbimpop barely had any crust form and they gave us an almost empty bottle of sauce for it. Of course we had to ask for more because without it, the dish was sooooo bland. The bossom came with only a 4 lettuce leaves and the meat had cartilage attached to it, which we found weird. The only good dish was the kalbi beef. The servers looked miserable to be there. The saving grace laid with one of the waitresses, who saw that we were taking the leftover bossam home (because it came with only 4 pieces of lettuce for an entire plate of bossom for $40!), offered to provide us with extra condiments, which is why I bumped the 2 and 1/5 stars up to a 3. read more

Solid Korean place a short walk from Henderson Place. Parking is available in front. The place is quite new and modern. Nice bright lighting and theme. Staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen does get backed up though. Also as of the time of writing there is a 15% tip for parties of 6 or more. The food here is excellent and very reasonably priced. My friends and I loaded up on the soup (both non spicy and spicy), had their seafood pancake, and tried their pork belly and glass noodles, and cheese rice cakes. Not a single dish was bad. I heard of this place via Instagram ad and there was a giveaway contest few months back. I regret not visiting here sooner. Anyways, I was so curious of this restaurant so I went with my sister. Interior was very Korean particularly Hanbok, signs and masks. This place was pretty tidy. Call bell is also placed for quick service. We ordered 24. Sundae Gukbab ($27.95) and 48. Cheese Buldak ($23.95) food looked very appetizing. Sundae Gukbab had plentiful of meat and some soondae (Blood sausages). Soup was rich and tasty. They knew how to make proper Gukbab with chives on top. Condiments came along as well, salted shrimps, ground perilla (similar to sesame), dadaegi (=pepper seasonings) and chopped peppers. It was so good with extra perilla and the red pepper sauce. Cheese Buldak was good as well. Spicy chicken with cabbages and rice cakes with melted cheese on top, YUM! There was more cabbages than meats though. We ordered mild spicy than regular spicy flavour. Mild spicy was still bit spicy for us. Luckily, my tummy wasn't upset. However, it was too expensive for the price tag. Both dishes were pretty good. Side dishes came with Kimchi, spicy radish, and bean sprouts. They have excellent tasting Kimchi here. I couldn't stop gushing about how good they cook. Server was very helpful. He gave us a banchan refill. This was actually the second time we had lunch at this Korean restaurant. The ambience and decor look nice and authentic. We were seated right after we arrived. The servers here were very efficient. They gave us menus right away. Once we looked at the menu and knew what we wanted to order, we pressed the bell. "Ding dong!" Then a server would come and take our orders. The food came out quickly. That was we didn't have to wait for a long time. We had the spicy tofu soup with beef, veggie bibimbap, and beef brisket soup with rice. We got three small side dishes. They were good. Just wish the restaurant could offer more different side dishes. It's always kimchi, bean sprouts and daikons. Overall, the food quality was good. The quantity of ingredients in the tofu soup with beef was quite a lot that I couldn't be able to finish it. I had to pack some home. I was in the area and was looking for a restaurant that serves noodles. I decided to stop by here after a quick search. We were seated right away with menus dropped off. Water and tea were also dropped off shortly afterwards. I decided on the seolleong tang. Food arrived fairly quickly. The portion size was good for one person. Salt and pepper was available to season the bone soup. There was an okay amount of beef brisket slices. I wish there were more noodles included. The soup itself was good. I recommend taking a sip beforehand and season it to taste. It tasted a lot better after a dash of salt was added. Service was efficient. No complaints there. NEW-ish spot for Korean Stews in Coquitlam!! I have never come across a place that served so many different types of stews before. They serve their stews in the iconic traditional stone bowls so they stay piping hot! My personal favourite thing to get at Korean restaurants is always the seafood tofu stew. Great new addition to Coquitlam's korean soup restaurant scene! We were pleasantly surprised by how efficient service was on the first day of their soft opening. Management definitely seemed to bring some know-how from Edmonton and everything from wait staff to kitchen staff seemed to be running at tip top shape. My husband ordered the haejangguk and I ordered the dookbaeki bulgogi. My husband was quite happy with his meal in terms of flavour and selection of the menu. The kimchi was geotjori and very fresh which we loved. My only 2 complaints are that the dookbaeki bulgogi is abnormally priced high for Vancouver at 19 something. Secondly, for a restaurant named dookbaeki I was expecting dookbaeki rice which would complement very well with their soups but unfortunately they only give normal rice. The dookbaeki was also a bit too sweet for my taste but overall it was better than some other restaurants.
