after a leisurely walk, we wandered into chibop, a cool korean spot tucked off lougheed on rosser street, glowing with neon lights that give it that low key retro vibe. it felt like the perfect place to settle in and warm up together. we ordered the beef & seafood soon tofu and japchae, and it turned into a seriously cozy spread to share. the soon tofu arrived furiously bubbling in its stone bowl, still piping hot and dramatic when it landed on the table. there was a generous amount of seafood, clams, mussels, prawns, and squid tentacles, layered in with silky soft tofu and tender slices of beef. every spoonful felt loaded. the broth had a deep savoury base with a subtle briny sweetness from the shellfish, and the assorted vegetables rounded everything out. we chose level 1 spicy because one of us is a total lightweight, but even at the lowest level it delivered a steady warmth that slowly built. not overwhelming, just enough to make our faces warm and have us reaching for water between bites. breaking the egg into the bubbling stew and letting the yolk melt into the broth made it richer and slightly mellowed the heat. paired with steamed rice, it was comforting and hearty. the squid tentacles leaned a little overcooked and slightly rubbery, but with so much seafood and depth in the broth, it didn't take away too much from the overall experience. one thing to note, there was no banchan served alongside the meal, which was a little surprising for a korean restaurant. the mains definitely held their own, but a few small side dishes would have made the experience feel more complete. the japchae balanced it all beautifully. the sweet potato starch noodles were glossy, springy, and perfectly chewy, coated in a savoury sweet soy glaze with a fragrant hit of sesame oil. stir fried with assorted vegetables and marinated pork, it had that satisfying bounce in every bite and felt lighter next to the stew while still packed with flavour. between the bubbling seafood loaded soon tofu and the savoury japchae, it was warm, flavourful, and deeply satisfying. we left full, slightly flushed from the spice, and very thirsty, but it was absolutely worth it. read more

Been to this mom and pop store a handful of times, as it's in the neighborhood - it's also a short walk from Brentwood, so is very transit friendly. It's normally not too busy, so you'll be seated pretty quickly - however food does take some time to arrive, so if you're in a hurry, you may want to order in advance. That being said, the team is very friendly and attentive. And will check on you a reasonable amount of times throughout your experience. I really like the pricing here, as I think it's very fair for nearly everything on the menu. Food arrived piping hot, the flavors were just right - and ingredients tasted fresh. I went here after my hair dresser from Sejong recommended this place yesterday. I was very hungry around 3pm so I ordered Chicken Combo ($21.98). Chicken Combo was pretty good and filling. Fried chicken and fries were crispy and delicious. Salad and radish were nicely made. I had fried chicken with Yangnyeom sauce it was pretty good. Chicken was coated in a thin batter and the sauce was flavorful and yummy. I better go here instead of going to Chicko next time. Portion and the price were pretty reasonable. Staff were fast and friendly. She offered me a take out box and a bag without charging. That was really nice of her. I always love a good kimbap and #chibop makes a great one. With many different varieties and filled to the absolute brim, I will definitely be visiting again in the near future. I went with the Bulgogi Kimbap and like most of the other kimbap, had a filling of carrots, ham, egg, fishcake, pickled radish and burdock root along with my chosen protein. The rice was nice and chewy with a nice hit of sesame oil and was a very thin layer compared to the filling. At almost $10 this seems a bit pricey but it was very large and well worth the price! Hidden gem tucked away in Burnaby!!! My partner and I tried this place and absolutely loved it!! Prices are reasonable and most of the food is very yummy!!! We've already gone back 3 times and plan to go more in the future Our favs are their fried chicken, japchae and bibimbap! My partner loves their fried chicken and we would say it's the best Korean fried chicken we've had to date! We've also tried their tteokboki and kimbap however it wasn't our fav. First time visiting this place since it's former Pita Pit spot. They have great hours (11AM to 11:59PM!!!) so should be nice for late night cravings or post drink eats. They have good seating sizes - tables and against the wall. The staff are very kind and eager as that area doesn't get as much foot traffic as Brentwood side but it's worth the jaunt down. Ordered Jajangmyeon and mandu special - great price and nice portion but the Jajangmyeon sauce wasn't as flavourful as I am used to! The mandu was perfectly cooked and satisfying! I've visited twice for takeout and chibop continues to impress. On my first visit, they were soft opening and had only the cupbaps available, so I ordered the spicy pork with house sauce and added gimmari. They were kind enough to include a soup on the house. Portions were very generous and flavourful. On my second visit, I noticed the jajangmyeon was on special for $10 so I ordered that plus a spicy chicken bibimbap. The jajangmyeon portion was a bit smaller than the bibimbap and the cupbap, but I really liked that they kept the jajang separate from the noodles. The jajang I enjoyed as there were minimal onions and they also added some corn in there - not your usual jajangmyeon (not a huge onion fan so they won me over here!) The bibimbap egg was cooked perfectly to my desired sunny side up and the beansprouts were quite tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the onions in this one as there were a lot and they were a bit bland. Protein ratio to rice was alright but I think heavy eaters might prefer more protein. Both times I lucked out with a free spot at the meter right out front. It's a "quieter" side street that also serves as an entrance to Madison centre (save on, tendon kohaku, viet noodle guy etc) so parking should be pretty ample. If not, you have the mall parking. I love how close this little Korean Cafe is so close to my place, literally just a walk down the street. And the best thing they have is 15% off Mondays with cash. I have been here already two times, and the nice lady who works here is always so nice. I come here to just do a pick up for the past two times, and they also ask me if I wanted utensils and other such with my orders. It seems they are so fast with their orders as well and it seems consistent for now. I ordered their Kimbap, and they are extremely delicious, you can tell they used fresh ingredients. I usually order their Beef Kimbap. There are so much food usually here, that I am extremely full after it. And they offer some delicious KFC too as well! I ordered their 2 flavours, for one full order. They offer the typical Yangnyeom and Honey Garlic or regular Soy Garlic. They are all just delicious flavours. I have yet to try their Cheese one, but I will be back just to try it next time. I love their Yangnyeom, it is a perfect spice and on top of that, their honey garlic is perfectly sweet and flavorful too. They for sure earned a regular from me. We stopped by for dinner as we were in the area. Restaurant was busy, but we managed to get seated at the last available table. Service was great. Staff were fast to drop off menus, tea and water. After reviewing the menu, we ordered a few items. Food arrived fairly quickly. My favourite was the house gimbap. It is like the Korean version of sushi, but with sweeter filling options and sesame oil. The roll was made well. Filling stayed in place. I also enjoyed Bulgogi bibimbap. There was a good variety of toppings with a side of soup and bottle of chili pepper paste (gochujang). My husband said he enjoyed his chicken combo which included salad and fries. Overall, I think this is a great addition to the area. If you are craving some Korean food, this is a good option. There is street parking and underground parking on the area. read more

I live nearby and always walked past it the past couple of months before their opening. There aren't many seats inside and it's quite small but their service is awesome! The staff are friendly and accommodating. They have a lot on their menu so it took some time for me to decide what I wanted to try. I got their cupbop with bulgogi bibimbap. It's rice, beef, salad and japchae. I really liked it - beef was delicious and their salad dressing is soo good! My mom got their Jajeongmyeon and I had a few bites of it. I think I will get the jajeongmyeon next time or I'll try their chicken :) I'll definitely be back soon! read more

I walked into the restaurant at 2ish pm today, and was seated promptly by a polite server. It's a simple and clean location located on Rosser Street. I ordered a spicy seafood soon tofu, and food taste decent, nothing to complain about. Tofu is silky soft, spicy level is moderate and portion is quite generous. I just hope they would offer side dishes like all the other Korean restaurants, and would refill my tea without prompting. When service is at its bare minimum even during the non-peak hours, yet the POS machine prompt for an automatic 15% gratuity, I'm just turned off by that. read more

Edit 3.0: This time i got the boneless fried chicken half soy and half yangyeom and the samgyeopsal gimbap. I think they did very well for these two. Chibop has a lot of varieties of food and its really hard to make everything good. I agree with the reviewers that the chicken may be a little bit expensive because the size is a little bit small but it was really good. I believe chibop used potato starch instead of corn starch and it fits really well. The soy and yangyeom sauce became really nice with it. The samgyeopsal gimbap was really good too. It was made properly and neat and not like kimbab cheoengguk. Well it is more expensive but it was definitely better. Worth it? I guess it depends maybe for some people. I believe something worth it to try. Ohh we were also given the milk pop, and it was really good. Thank you for this it really made my day! I jumped on the Korean fried chicken train about a couple years ago, I've tried it from a few different places. Saw Chibop was opening up as I live in the area, I wasn't expecting too much from it, but boy was I surprised when I tried their soy garlic chicken for the first time. I haven't come across anything else just as good. Since it opened, my husband and I have gone back many times. He's more adventurous and has tried many different dishes, mostly at the recommendation of the lovely lady that works there. I just stick to my soy garlic chicken because why mess with a good thing, right? Will be going to Chibop again tonight because I'm craving it now as I write this. read more
