After two negative experiences with another company/owner that specializes in original doors of old homes, I was elated by Door Works. The tech, Elliot I think, was professional, super knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. They are far out on appointments, but maybe that's a credit to them. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. While I don't want to minimize anyone's bad experience, I do tend to give companies a semi-pass for work between 2021 and early 2022. read more

I called them for an appointment, they asked that I send a picture of the door I ad an issue with, I sent them the picture and did not hear back from them, two days later I called and left a voice message still did not hear back from them. Three weeks later I received a voice message from them saying they were their for the appointment. I was not at home and they ask to reschedule for the following week. This time they showed up and spent two hours and told me they need to come up with another plan and that they would be back in touch with me with a follow up plan. After a week I reached out tot them, they told me that they would forward it to the employee that was on site, this was three weeks ago and still have heard nothing. read more

We built our house 7 years ago, and now that things have settled we had some doors that were off-kilter in their frames and rubbing, and even one door where the hinge had come loose. Called Door Works, made an appointment with a short lead time, and they sent their tech, Elliot out to help us. Elliot was great, he knew exactly what to do to fix the issues, as well as suggested some other preventative items such as moving the door bumpers off the top hinge. He also noticed our original builder had used wimpy little screws, and replaced them with the proper length. Even sprayed that silicone stuff on a couple of squeaky doors. We're super-happy with the results! The work was first-rate, our issues were solved, and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended! read more

If I had more time in my life, I'd take this to small claims court. We hired Door Works to help with our front door that wasn't closing correctly. Ben came out and he was really nice. He worked on the door and right when he left, we realized it still wasn't fixed, still wasn't latching. We called him to come back the next day and he tried to fix it again. As the weather got warmer a couple weeks after that, the door wasn't sticking closed at all and was bouncing open. I wrote Patrick and he said he'd send Ben back out in a month, which was the earliest available. My appointment was at 11:30am that day and from 11:00-12:00 I was waiting outside on the porch to greet him. He never came, but when I wrote Patrick about that, he said that Ben said he had come and waited 30 minutes before leaving. Either he's lying or he came hours early, when I was unavailable, and didn't call. We tried to reschedule again...this time another few weeks out (meanwhile we were using the backdoor). Same thing. Day of the appointment, Ben didn't show. My husband took off work to wait for him the whole day. Never came. I emailed Patrick twice and never heard back. We hired Portland Locksmith & Garage Doors and they were out the next day, fixed the door and charged half of what Door Works charged (and DoorWorks made the problem worse, rescheduled and never showed). I emailed that I want a refund and am still waiting. I don't like writing bad reviews but I gave them every opportunity to correct this, and as a business owner myself, this is terrible business and awful customer service. read more

Email to them on Sept 3rd requesting setup help with a door repair. Response from Patrick Endicott on Sept 8, claiming he had been on vacation and asking whether anyone had responded to my inquiry. I wrote back that day and said no one had responded but that I looked forward to talking. Crickets. Two weeks later I called and left a voicemail asking for Patrick to contact me. Crickets again. Today is Sept 28. Too busy? Too disorganized? I don't know what their issue is but I'm not going to waste anymore time on them. Will never do business with this company again I asked for them to come out and see if my door could be replaced due to the lock malfunctioning. They came out tried to fix the lock and rekeyed it. It worked for about 12 hours....... We needed our side door replaced after a break-in that trashed it. Our neighbor Don, a retired construction pro, recommended Door Works; he said he'd never used the company, but had seen one of their vans in the neighborhood, peered inside, and was impressed by the quality and organization of the tools. A Door Works guy appeared the same day that I called. Two weeks later, the same fellow did the custom installation work. Just bought a huge and elaborate home in Portland built about 20 years ago. Has a ton of tall, high-end doors wit heavy glass. All the exterior doors had various problems and were not closing properly. Got their name from a contractor friend. Called them. I believe it was Patrick who answered the phone. Was patient with my stupid questions and scheduled Adam to come out a couple days later. On the appointed day, Adam called and politely asked if he could come early, if you can believe that. Blew through six sets of heavy double exterior doors in much less time than I thought it would take. I'm an ex-engineer and a bit of a tweak-head and was quite impressed with his experience level, ability to figure out the problems instantly, and fix them quickly. I believe read a review where someone thought they were expensive and I'd like to disagree with that reviewer. I got a boatload of doors fixed for $250, and liked Adam personally. One door wasn't absolutely quite perfect after he left, but heck I could not even shut it before and I can now, so I'm not complaining. I'd call these guys back for sure. read more

We just had an interior door installed by Adam....we love it. The door quality is excellent and Adam was extremely meticulous in the installation. He wore a mask the entire time and was very respectful of the need for social distance. Had a recent break-in attempt and wanted to get my door repaired. I have two very small children so this is obviously a nervous time. The people at the Door Works are very nice to talk to when you can get a hold of them. However every single time they promised a return call (sometimes supposedly immediately right back) there would be nothing for days. I would then have to call back, and would get some other excuse or delay story. Always a polite conversation on both parts. After 5 attempts at getting any kind of response over more than a week, I had to leave a message politely indicating that if I didn't hear back I would assume they weren't interested. No return call. Common courtesy would dictate at least a call back to even say they were too busy instead of simply avoiding a paying customer more times than even a very generous benefit of the doubt would allow. read more

Super slow to respond and work was majorly delayed due to their inability to respond. -- I had them replace four interior doors and two sets of bifold closet doors. They came out to provide a quote in early January, which I had to take off from work to accommodate their schedule since they don't do anything outside of 8-5 Monday-Friday. Took forever to return calls, couldn't provide dates of when the orders were placed, couldn't provide expected arrival dates for when they would have the doors in stock. Literally dozens of emails and calls giving me the run around with no attempt of their end to proactively follow up with me. I had a $600 deposit paid already and was legitimately concerned they were going to ghost. I called on Friday to check the status of the orders, yet again and they told me all the doors had arrived and they were coming on Monday to install. Were they just going to show up and not tell me they were coming had I not called? Super unprofessional. It's now the first week in March and they just installed them. They then had the nerve to demand payment before they left after installation and told me I couldn't call and give them the credit card information the next day even though I was in the middle of cooking dinner. They did a nice job, but definitely not worth the price and headache. Save yourself a headache and go with someone else. read more

I contacted The Door Works over three weeks ago, at the recommendation of the tile setter who recommended them. I spoke with Patrick to request an estimate for a door installation and measurement. He asked me to pick a door and gave me a website that showed hundreds of doors, none of which were appropriate for a door leading to my garage. I followed up and again requested three to six door recommendations and to be put on their schedule. Nothing. I contacted Patrick a week later and he said that he was away due to a family emergency. OK, I get that. I cut him some slack and worked with him to pick a door. I asked for a quote on the price of the door. Nothing. I have emailed three times. Called numerous times. Nothing. I am STILL NOT ON THE SCHEDULE NOR HAVE THEY COME OUT TO MEASURE MY DOOR FRAME. I emailed last weekend asking for this to be resolved this week and have again heard nothing. I AM DONE. This company clearly doesn't want the work. No one ever answers the phone when I call the business number. Always a recording asking that I leave a message and no follow up. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Patrick is a waste of time. Find a company that will actually follow on their promises. Jeez!!! read more

I have used the Door Works over the years. Their first project was installing a customer made door 5 years ago. If I was rating based on that project, I would give them 5 stars. Something has changed. I have one scheduled appointment within the last 12 months where they never showed. When I called the office, they had no clue what happened to the tech. I recently had them out again to do some work on a couple windows. The guy did some work and left with a plan to come back after he ordered a part. They came out to bid on a very large door repair/rebuild project - spent 2 hours measuring, discussing options, etc. Said a quote would take 1-2 weeks. After 3 weeks- I called, emailed, called again- no response. Waited another week - called - receptionist took message and said she would find out. No call back..... 1 month later - spoke to another office person- pleaded for info- said they would check with the man who came out to see us and get back to me- never heard back. One final call a month later- because I was really in disbelief that I had never heard back..... a man apologized and said he thought our job "fell through the cracks" I asked that he check the status and call me back by the end of the day - he said ok. No show, no calls, Each and every day we called hours after they were supposed to arrive, only to hear a non-apologetic person say sorry, set a new time, and then not have them show up again. The Doorworks Company sent out a craftsman to fix a very old door that had been damaged during a photoshoot in our home. Our house is 100 years old, and they not only repaired the door, but reset a lockset to perfection. The technician was thoughtful, professional, and left a minimal footprint for painting. He solved the problem perfectly. So if you need a tough door or jam problem fixed, these are your people!! Well done. Thank you Doorworks!! You know how to solve a tricky problem. Our sliding patio door is 30 years old and had become almost impossible to open. We had gotten several bids to replace it and all were outrageous in price. I got a tip from a plumber friend to get a hold of The Door Works and Michael told me it might just need new rollers and his general estimate over the phone was much less expensive than a new door. Ben came out today. He is a very personable and friendly guy. He took the door off, looked at the rollers and determined they didn't need to be replaced but simply cleaned, adjusted and tightened. In a half hour we had an easy operating sliding glass door and because he didn't have to replace the rollers the final price was even less. I give Ben Ekstrom 5 stars for his work, but there was something fishy about this whole operation. At the very least get a business card, be sure who you're dealing with, and if possible pay by credit card only. I had heard of the name Door Works about a year ago. In Aug/2015 or so, I saw a Door Works van at the curb next door. I asked if he repaired metal weather stripping. He said yes, and came over that after noon to look at my doors. We first looked at the front door, then went down to the garage. He inspected the stripping, and then said, "I can fix this broken frame so it closes like it's suppose to. " Fantastic. "Can you fix this closet door right here? It's never lined up correctly to close since I bought the house." "Yes". "How much for all three." He looked up to the heavens for an answer, used his mental calculator, and came up with, "$120." Sounded very reasonable to me (labor, parts, driving to and from). He wanted to put it off until he drove here to do the neighbor. "Fine, give me a call when that will be." Never heard from him for a few weeks. Then I happened to spot him from the bedroom carrying a door frame up the 27 stairs to my front door landing. I stuck my head out the window: "Ben you're at the wrong house. Why didn't you call me? Can you do my doors this after noon?" He did. I remembered I had noticed a couple of days before that my side by side bedroom doors no longer swung all the way closed together. "Ben, do you have time for these, and how much?" "$80". Great. Now total $200. That was fine with me. When everything was done, I checked to see how all the doors were working. Excellent. Couldn't be better. I handed him a $200 check. I don't remember why, but I re-inspected the metal strips. They hadn't been touched. Some pieces were missing, another was still floppy, and at the garage spiders crawled in under the door and set up camping at the floor corners of the adjacent closet door. "Hey, what gives here, Ben?" "I never agreed to do the weather stripping. I don't have any with me, and it costs me $26 a strip to buy it." (Well, that's your tough luck. So much for your consulting the heavens to arrive at a cost.) "Ben, the first thing we talked about down at the street was you fixing the molding (winter's coming on)." He wouldn't say yes, but didn't say no. I let him keep the check, but told him I expected him to keep his word. "Give me a call Monday, and let me know when you're coming back." He didn't call back. Not only that he never provided an itemized estimate, never provided a contract, never left a business card. Stationery items are business expenses. I suspicioned he had none of that. The number he gave me was a phone in his wife's name. When I called it, it continually rang until a phone company message said, "This message box is not activated." I stopped payment on the check. I wrote him a letter at the St Helens Rd address. I told him I stopped the check, but would rewrite it for $250 (to cover the additional cost of the stripping). He did a good job, I wanted to pay him fairly, even if he messed up his bid. Who knows what's fair in door repair. Never heard a word back. How unusual is that for a business owner? Google Door Works Portland, there is no human name associated with the business. No, "Joe Blow's Door Works estab 1963." My guess would be a franchise where people who run it come and go." read more
