Another day another fantastic experience at Doppio. This time I was in the mood for something a little more filling than a pastry and was happy to find that the shop is more manageable on weekday afternoons. I opted for the salmon on multigrain and am happy to report that it tastes just as delicious as it looks. I was very impressed at how fresh everything from the capers to the cucumber and even the dill sprigs tasted. And at $16 I feel like it is comparable if not superior to any lox bagel that you would get at a similar price. Decided to stay in the shop and get some work done while eating so I got a dark roast drip coffee that was good too. (Side note: I really like their choice of mugs and saucers) I ended up hanging out for a good 2 hours or so and the staff were super friendly and attentive from hello to goodbye. This is a cute little coffee shop. The woman who took my order was very nice. I got their light roast coffee. It was very smooth and not acidic. Their chocolate croissant was really good. Light, flaky and it had the right amount of chocolate. They have a small outdoor seating area. I will come back to try their other drinks, pastries and sandwiches :). read more

My partner and I had already eaten lunch before we stopped in but after checking in and seeing Doppio's gorgeous open-faced sandwiches, we were extremely tempted to and fought the urge to get one. Instead, we just got afternoon cold brews. The quality of the coffee was fantastic--not too acidic which is always a concern and turn off for me with cold brew. Instead, the coffee was rich and full-bodied and didn't require any cream or sweetener. Doppio clearly cares about their coffee, has great signs to explain various options, and I also loved to see that they had vegan options including cups filled with plant-based energy bites. We sat on their lovely socially-distanced patio and enjoyed some of the last moments of summer weather. We'll be back for more cold brew, to try an open-faced sandwich, and to purchase some whole beans in the near future. read more

I really hate giving less than 4 stars.. and I also really wanted to love this place. I just have had more than one negative experience now, in the past couple years. Living a couple blocks away - I used to go periodically (lots of coffee options around). Its a cute place, easy going, and it has a nice energy. However my 'dings' 1. Not just once, but a couple times my interaction with either the owner or manager was unpleasant. I was rushed and my harmless questions were almost like it was wasting their time. Like just want to know a few things about donuts or maybe sourcing of the coffee! I know its busy, but making 2 min to chat translates to so much more long term. 2. The coffee, several times, just wasn't great. I get plain drip - and its been scolding hot and lacking flavor. Could be bad batches, but I'm reviewing what I got here. And its happened a few times Mainly I'm holding the attitude mentioned above against them here. The rest of the staff are all very very nice and helpful. I've left there imagining, like, these friendly baristas are probably getting yelled at in the back office. I'm being a bit dramatic, but also honest. The food is great, and I'm sure the specialty coffees are too. Again - my personal experiences just rubbed me the wrong way. read more

Didn't know about this place, but was getting a pedicure next door & decided to stop in & have one of their open faced sandwiches for lunch. So glad I did, it was fantastic!!! I had the Pomidoro Fresco with slow roasted grape tomatoes, olive oil, basil & creamy ricotta on garlic rubbed country sourdough I'll definitely be back to try some of the other choices. Stopped in to get a couple coffees to go. Despite being very busy they made my order quickly which I was impressed by. Space was clean and they had a good amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. I got an iced vanilla latte - definitely recommend. Good coffee flavor and the vanilla wasn't overwhelming. read more

I really liked this neighborhood coffee spot. As far as I know there are not a lot of other choices nearby so I suspect it will do well regardless. Even if there are other choices this is a good place to stop in for coffee, light bites, hang with friends, or do some work. The coffee was good, my cappuccino was not particularly pretty, but tasted good. As one might expect, they have a variety of milk alternatives. We shared 3 different sandwiches which were delicious and satisfying. Lots of vegetarian options! They have a scant number of board games which is indicative that they are welcoming and invite you to hang out. We brought our own game and spent a fair amount of time there with no one making us feel that we should move along. It's smallish with limited seating. Again no one makes you feel like you should give up your table and we were guilty of taking up one of the limited number of tables. The street parking could be a little troubling. read more

Morning rush is too rushed to get my coffee order correct after 2 tries. I thought this might have been a good place to try as there were alot of people inside and outside, but when rushing, and not listening is more important, then my experience ends up being less than anticipated. read more

Just moved in down the block and tried this place out. Great addition to the neighborhood - and it was HOPPING at 10:30 AM on a weekday which is always a good sign. Ordered a feta puff and a frappe. Frappe was fantastic, feta puff was pretty solid as well - pastry was great, it was just a bit overly salty but, I mean, it's made with feta so perhaps that's on me. Would 100% come back to try the rest of their items and have lunch. Service was super friendly. Definitely worth a stop in! read more

This place is low key fire in my opinion. It's a cute cafe that does everything really well. From a cup of whatever to go or sit in and have some food, it's all really well done, fresh ingredients, with a lovely staff and owner. Their baked goods are delicious and I highly recommend their open sandwiches if you want some food. For the open sandwiches I have had the eggxtravaganza, ancient grains, and good berry, all of which use fresh ingredients and are well balanced. My favorite coffee spot in Chicago. And I am from Philadelphia. But when I stay in the Lakeview section, every day starts at Doppio. Love the drip coffee and also the food on offer. I love this new coffee house with its unique and incredibly delicious sandwiches. I ate the humus, arugula, chickpeas sandwich with sumac and lemon it was Devine!!!!! The bread was yummy and the presentation was lovely. It's clear that a lot of love and thought goes in to the food and the whole atmosphere here. I got an iced vanilla latte and it was not that good. I am still waiting for the open faced sandwich so I can rate that right now. The tables are lined out nice and there is an outdoor area. Parking was not that bad. I am a Starbucks and even Dunkin' Donuts coffee drinker. The coffee is bitter and almost burnt tasting. I would not come here for the coffee. Husband and I have occasionally stopped in to this Turkish- owned cafe for both regular and breve lattes, as well as iced coffees. The coffee is much stronger than I'd prefer, but still good. Haven't tried anything off of the food menu, but plan to soon. The sandwiches looked attractive, and have a Middle Eastern flare to them. This little café is a real hidden gem! The clean décor, strong Wi-Fi, extensive menu, and quiet atmosphere make it an ideal place to "work from home". The shop is also owned by the sweetest couple- they are genuinely interested in their customers and making sure your needs are met. It adds a nice human dimension that is too often forgotten these days. The coffee (I get the iced latte) is absolutely delicious, but the real star of the show is the baked goods. While all of muffins are great, my favorite is the Lemon Poppy Seed. I recommend the Lemon Poppy Seed scone if you desire a drier pastry than a muffin.
