Another day another fantastic experience at Doppio. This time I was in the mood for something a little more filling than a pastry and was happy to find that the shop is more manageable on weekday afternoons. I opted for the salmon on multigrain and am happy to report that it tastes just as delicious as it looks. I was very impressed at how fresh everything from the capers to the cucumber and even the dill sprigs tasted. And at $16 I feel like it is comparable if not superior to any lox bagel that you would get at a similar price. Decided to stay in the shop and get some work done while eating so I got a dark roast drip coffee that was good too. (Side note: I really like their choice of mugs and saucers) I ended up hanging out for a good 2 hours or so and the staff were super friendly and attentive from hello to goodbye. Steady flow of people but never felt rushed either. It was a nice start to the weekend. read more

I love Doppio. Good coffee and service. I recommend on the vegan chocolate chip cookie. Salty and sweet. With the oat milk latte it was the best combination. We go there ones a month. Sometimes twice a month. RECOMMENDED! read more

This is a cute little coffee shop. The woman who took my order was very nice. I got their light roast coffee. It was very smooth and not acidic. Their chocolate croissant was really good. Light, flaky and it had the right amount of chocolate. They have a small outdoor seating area. I will come back to try their other drinks, pastries and sandwiches :). read more

My partner and I had already eaten lunch before we stopped in but after checking in and seeing Doppio's gorgeous open-faced sandwiches, we were extremely tempted to and fought the urge to get one. Instead, we just got afternoon cold brews. The quality of the coffee was fantastic--not too acidic which is always a concern and turn off for me with cold brew. Instead, the coffee was rich and full-bodied and didn't require any cream or sweetener. Doppio clearly cares about their coffee, has great signs to explain various options, and I also loved to see that they had vegan options including cups filled with plant-based energy bites. We sat on their lovely socially-distanced patio and enjoyed some of the last moments of summer weather. We'll be back for more cold brew, to try an open-faced sandwich, and to purchase some whole beans in the near future. read more

Didn't know about this place, but was getting a pedicure next door & decided to stop in & have one of their open faced sandwiches for lunch. So glad I did, it was fantastic!!! I had the Pomidoro Fresco with slow roasted grape tomatoes, olive oil, basil & creamy ricotta on garlic rubbed country sourdough I'll definitely be back to try some of the other choices. I really hate giving less than 4 stars.. and I also really wanted to love this place. I just have had more than one negative experience now, in the past couple years. Living a couple blocks away - I used to go periodically (lots of coffee options around). Its a cute place, easy going, and it has a nice energy. However my 'dings' 1. Not just once, but a couple times my interaction with either the owner or manager was unpleasant. I was rushed and my harmless questions were almost like it was wasting their time. Like just want to know a few things about donuts or maybe sourcing of the coffee! I know its busy, but making 2 min to chat translates to so much more long term. 2. The coffee, several times, just wasn't great. I get plain drip - and its been scolding hot and lacking flavor. Could be bad batches, but I'm reviewing what I got here. And its happened a few times Mainly I'm holding the attitude mentioned above against them here. The rest of the staff are all very very nice and helpful. I've left there imagining, like, these friendly baristas are probably getting yelled at in the back office. I'm being a bit dramatic, but also honest. The food is great, and I'm sure the specialty coffees are too. Again - my personal experiences just rubbed me the wrong way. read more

Stopped in to get a couple coffees to go. Despite being very busy they made my order quickly which I was impressed by. Space was clean and they had a good amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. Just moved in down the block and tried this place out. Great addition to the neighborhood - and it was HOPPING at 10:30 AM on a weekday which is always a good sign. Ordered a feta puff and a frappe. Frappe was fantastic, feta puff was pretty solid as well - pastry was great, it was just a bit overly salty but, I mean, it's made with feta so perhaps that's on me. Would 100% come back to try the rest of their items and have lunch. Service was super friendly. Definitely worth a stop in! read more

This place is low key fire in my opinion. It's a cute cafe that does everything really well. From a cup of whatever to go or sit in and have some food, it's all really well done, fresh ingredients, with a lovely staff and owner. Their baked goods are delicious and I highly recommend their open sandwiches if you want some food. For the open sandwiches I have had the eggxtravaganza, ancient grains, and good berry, all of which use fresh ingredients and are well balanced. Their morning oats are great for something lighter and the bread pudding is really killer. A must support local cafe in my book. They really punch above their weight as a cafe. read more

I love this new coffee house with its unique and incredibly delicious sandwiches. I ate the humus, arugula, chickpeas sandwich with sumac and lemon it was Devine!!!!! The bread was yummy and the presentation was lovely. It's clear that a lot of love and thought goes in to the food and the whole atmosphere here. The owners are delightful and eager to serve and please. I believe in supporting local businesses that are trying to break in to the coffee shop market!!! Enough of the bland big guys! My favorite coffee spot in Chicago. And I am from Philadelphia. But when I stay in the Lakeview section, every day starts at Doppio. Love the drip coffee and also the food on offer. Donuts are great, I love the Kolashes, feta and spinach turnovers and everything else I have tried. The staff and owners are friendly and welcoming and super quick. I got an iced vanilla latte and it was not that good. I am still waiting for the open faced sandwich so I can rate that right now. The tables are lined out nice and there is an outdoor area. Parking was not that bad. I am a Starbucks and even Dunkin' Donuts coffee drinker. The coffee is bitter and almost burnt tasting. I would not come here for the coffee. I would take a friend to talk perhaps though. read more

Husband and I have occasionally stopped in to this Turkish- owned cafe for both regular and breve lattes, as well as iced coffees. The coffee is much stronger than I'd prefer, but still good. Haven't tried anything off of the food menu, but plan to soon. The sandwiches looked attractive, and have a Middle Eastern flare to them. Wasn't sure what to expect when we popped in a couple weeks ago, and now I can say this one of our top 3 cafés in Chicago. The staff is super friendly, the pastries are phenomenal (highly suggest lemon blueberry scone), coffee is great quality, and the atmosphere is bright and cozy. This little café is a real hidden gem! The clean décor, strong Wi-Fi, extensive menu, and quiet atmosphere make it an ideal place to "work from home". The shop is also owned by the sweetest couple- they are genuinely interested in their customers and making sure your needs are met. It adds a nice human dimension that is too often forgotten these days. The coffee (I get the iced latte) is absolutely delicious, but the real star of the show is the baked goods. While all of muffins are great, my favorite is the Lemon Poppy Seed. I recommend the Lemon Poppy Seed scone if you desire a drier pastry than a muffin. What a gem in Lincoln park! They opened recently and I am obsessed. The owners are so friendly and make you feel at home and the food they serve is incredible. The coffee is really delicious but what stood out to me was their toasts. They have six different ones that are super different flavor profiles but all are amazing. This is a wonderful little coffee shop. The service is fast and friendly. They have a good selection of food and pastries. I tried a jalapeño role filled with spicy cream cheese and jalapeño peppers. What I can't get over is the gentleman sitting every day for hours and hours with his dirty bare feet on chairs that customers sit in. You can see his grimy feet and the slippers he leaves on the floor. It's really gross because when I brought my friends for the first time, there were no tables available except for the one he always uses to put his dirty bare feet on. So we had to sit with his smelly feet as our "neighbor" just a couple feet away. If he's homeless, I have a lot of sympathy for him. But he obviously had sandals which he doesn't use when he puts his feet on chairs, and nobody should be putting bare feet on chairs that people sit on in a cafe anyways. If he's a regular, he should know to respect the cafe, the owners, staff, and patrons better. He also takes up that whole half of the long table by the front so that no customers can sit there. And nobody would want to use that chair he has used for his dirty feet anyways. Please inform him politely it's causing a distraction and is a health hazard. There needs to be some standards at cafes for sanitary reasons even if it's not crowded. It's just pretty gross.

I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

This most recent time, I needed a snack and wanted something sweet. Everything here looks amazing and I'm sure tastes amazing too, so it's hard to choose. I chose to get the berry chantilly cake slice since it was a hot day, and it was the perfect refreshing treat! It was soooo good.

The shop used to take customer names, and it worked much better during busy times. Now it can be chaotic--orders are hard to hear, people miss their drinks, and drinks often get mixed up. In the past week alone, I've accidentally taken the wrong drink twice, and I've also had someone take mine. Meanwhile, staff spend time sorting out orders while the line keeps growing. A simple solution would be to start taking names again. It would make pickups more organized, reduce mistakes, and help lines move faster for both customers and staff.
