UPDATE: I have now received a refund of $200. I met Dora in the spring of 2018. I had a sample dress shipped from California that had very intricate patterns and wanted to consult with a seamstress before ordering. She assured my mother-in-law and I that it would be no problem and the cost of the alterations would be around $180. This included a simple hem, fitting through the body, taking up the straps, and attaching the train. I ordered the dress shortly after. It arrived in August, and again, I took it to Dora to check for any imperfections. I appreciated that she told me to bring it the first part of November for my March wedding so that it could be completed by January and she could take her time. I returned in November with my family in tow. Instead of a straight hem, she was going to rework the pattern. Of course, this was going to cost more, but for the work to be performed, it would have made my dress look more original. This is where trouble started. She insisted I pay her through Zelle. Not credit card, not PayPal, not Venmo. Her reasoning was she needed her money NOW and didn't want to wait for the transfers. I have attached screenshots of the payment. However, after I made the payment, she realized it went to her old bank. I spent an HOUR on the phone trying to reverse the transfer and Zelle would not cooperate. She admitted the mistake was hers, and that she would figure it out ok her own. Two appointments went by without issue. My final appointment, I had called earlier that week to move it back one hour due to an issue at work. She confirmed with me that Friday, January 11 at 6pm would be fine. I had an appointment scheduled for that day for months. My mother-in-law flew in from Florida to see me in the dress. When my MIL arrived at her home, Dora claimed that I didn't have an appointment. When I arrived she said my appointment was for the following Friday. She seemed out of it and weird. I began to get worried that weekend and asked for pictures of my dress. It was unchanged since my appointment three weeks prior. There was no way she was going to be able to finish the dress. My father drove down the following Friday for support, as no one else could come. When I put on the dress, it was a hot mess. One strap wasn't done and the other was so twisted and mangled that it was pulling my shoulder down and on the dress. I began to question her about it and she went hot to cold to crying. And she kept that cycle through our whole conversation. She kept stating that she was doing this work for "free"! Eventually, I was able to leave with my dress after I assured her I just wanted a second opinion on the straps. I immediately called the designer in LA to have more straps made. The cost is $70. ($50 for the straps and $20 for shipping) The next day I took it to another seamstress l. She was appalled. At one point, she pulled on a loose thread and a needle was at the end of it! She also assured me that there was NO WAY there was enough fabric on the hem to make a new strap as Dora had claimed. The total work that needs to be redone and the new strap installation will cost an additional $260. I was crying. I could not believe the mess I was in. Dora had the nerve to call me that night to ask what the other seamstress had said. I sent her to voicemail as I wanted all communication to be documented. Asked her for a refund of $310 to cover the costs of the alterations and straps to fix her mistakes. She argued that she only owed me $200. I didn't want to argue anymore, and wanted to end communication so I accepted that I would take that. She has been dragging her feet on it. She stated she would get it to me by Wednesday (yesterday). When I asked about it, she got snippy with me. "I don't understand what 24 hours makes if you going to get your money more than likely tomorrow". Wow. Funny enough, it's been over 24 hours and I have yet to receive payment. Also, I find it interesting that someone who didn't want to wait two days for credit card processing is getting offended over me expecting payment on the day she stated she would pay. Admittedly, she offered to pay cash. However, I declined because I don't accept cash from anyone this shady. I want a paper trail. Not to mention, I wasn't going to go over to her house anymore. I have attached the original paperwork and receipts, along with photos of the actual work performed. You be the judge if she deserves $200... from her own quote! -------------- Short note on the jacket: I took an Anine Bing jacket to be tailored prior to Christmas. It's a $350 jacket. I spent $70 to get it taken in and the sleeves shortened. After the first dry cleaning, the seams fell apart. I took it back, expecting her to fix her mistake. One arm is 3/4 inch shorter than the other and it is such a mess, it cannot be repaired. read more

Dora is fantastic at alterations. I will be honest, if you are sensitive, she might not be the best for you. That being said, she perfectly customized my dress and made it fit like a glove. I have worked with Dora countless times for bridesmaid dresses when she was working on the bridal gowns. I had her fix a previous alteration on one and it really made a difference. With the important stuff, my dress, I knew she was the only option worth going for. I wanted some form of strap on my dress and could not find anything that had straps and checked off all my other boxes. I ended up buying a "belt" from the place I bought my dress with hopes of her turning it in to something. I bought my dress off the rack from a local dress outlet that recommended that I go to their "high-end couture" seamstresses in the city only problem was that they were charging me $600-700 minimum for the alterations I would want! I knew I had to keep looking and found Dora on Yelp/weddingwire and read her amazing reviews. She is doing even more alterations than the high-end stores had quoted me at nearly half the price!!! HIGHLY recommend her for dress alterations, she has 40+years experience from working at the same high-end stores in the city before deciding to branch off on her own. She's so sweet, too! Dora is literally the best! I had a bridesmaid dress that was ordered about two sizes too big last year and when I came to ATL for the wedding I had a week to try to get it fixed. I got it to Dora by Monday that Thursday she had it fitted perfectly to me! My daughter had an excellent experience with Dora! Dora came highly recommended to me by a friend who used her for her wedding dress alterations and also for twirling costumes and other dresses. Dora has space downstairs set up for bridal fittings with large mirrors. She was absolutely meticulous in altering the gown and even the bra so that my daughter's gown was flawless on her. In addition to the usual nips and tucks Dora shortened the train by three feet and one would never know afterwards. The total number of fittings was 7. This isn't current...I should have wrote this back in August 2016. I would give it a 3 1/2 stars... she does a good job, but I'm not a fan much anymore. I've had my wedding dress done by Dora and 2 bridesmaids dresses. She's a very nice lady-very personal and intimate setting, like she could be an aunt/family friend. She even did my niece's flower girl's dress for free. I loved what she did to my wedding dress. She priced me around $400 for the wedding dress and $120 for the bridesmaids dress, but I've never gone to anyone else to compare prices with. My 3rd visit was a bridesmaid's dress. I was about 4 months pregnant when I went in for a fitting and she had told me to come back for another fitting about 3-4 weeks before the wedding. I made my 1st appt about 3 1/2 weeks before the wedding. Before the appt, she texted me saying she's feeling under the weather and asked that I reschedule for the following week. I was fine as long as she thought she would have time to finish before the wedding. Before my 2nd week appointment (2 weeks before wedding), she calls and tells me another bride just left her dress with her that she would have to finish by that Saturday and to reschedule again. I asked her "well you told me you needed 3 weeks, do you think you can finish my dress in a week's time?" She responded, "why don't you think I can do it in time? If I say I can do it, I can do it. Never have I been questioned that before." And she's laughing like its funny to her. I felt offended as if I'm that stupid that I don't think she can finish in time. But apparently, she couldn't finish that bride's dress in time, that's why she's rescheduling me, so of course I should be concerned! I'm a repeat customer and I've raved and referred lots of people to her. She also said "well you can take it to someone else then." I just said "ok" and hung up. I guess her business is that great, she didnt need mine anyways. Never once in the conversation did she apologize for having to reschedule me so many times. I've just now read some of the bad reviews here and I felt the same way as the girls in the reviews. Maybe she's not trying to be rude, but it comes off that way? She did tell me to pray during one of the fittings too. I think she means well... she just has no filter sometimes and has no idea what to/what not to say to people. Well what's funny is... that BRIDE that she had to finish by Saturday, was the same BRIDE who my bridesmaid's dress was for! It was an out of town wedding and BRIDE was leaving Sunday with her dress. It came very late- I had 5 weeks to get my dress altered. That was no problem for Dora. I met with her every week. Most salons would have just done one big alteration, not Dora. Dora is amazing! I was the Matron of Honor in my sister's wedding and made the mistake of not trying on my Bridesmaid's dress after bringing it home from the store! When I tried it on 6 days before the wedding, it was way too long, the bust was to loose, and the hips were too tight! I was not about to be a Matron of Honor in a dress that needed work! But I was worried because it was so close to the wedding date! But Dora saved me!!! She was able to see me the very next day, took quick measurements, and got the work done in 4 days!!! So I'm going to give you all the same advise that my friend, who referred me to her, gave me: She's not mean, that's just they way she talks. I think the problem that some people are having with Dora is personality clashes mixed in with misinterpretation and miscommunication. Yes, Dora is a straight forward person but isn't that a good thing? Isn't that someone who you would want to make you look your best on your big day? She's like a really good friend who will tell you if something doesn't look good on you. I promise you She's not trying to be rude or hurt your feelings. She's simply saying, this part doesn't look good so let's acknowledge it and fix it. If she quotes you 300 in the beginning, that is what you'll pay at the end. There are no surprise fees or add-ons, AND her prices are super affordable. She is sooo accommodating and such good company. I LOVE that she tell it like it is. Dora literally transformed my dress! I purchased my dress online knowing that it would need major alterations. I could not have been happier with how the dress ended up fitting. I hate seeing the insanely negative comments below about Dora. I honestly don't see how that even happened with her. She was always super flexible and did not mind at all if I needed her to make more adjustments after going in for a fitting. She was opinionated, but you have to understand that she has so many years of experience and she is only trying to help. She always had my best interest in mind. I paid somewhere around $400 for her to take my dress in, pretty much EVERYWHERE. She had to make adjustments multiple times after fittings because I wasn't 100% satisfied. She never seemed annoyed or anything like that when I would ask for her to change something. She took several inches off the dress to make it the perfect length. She also created an easy way to snap my train to the back of my dress during the reception so that it would not drag everywhere. I am also a very busty woman and she was able to direct me to the perfect corset to wear under my dress. She even took part of the dress that she cut from the bottom, and sewed it to the top to help cover some of my cleavage. That way the fabric matched perfectly and it looked as though the dress came that way. As I said before, could not have been happier with Dora. read more

Working with Dora was such a disappointing and unprofessional experience. I needed my wedding dress altered and on our first visit, I felt quite uncomfortable with her as she lacked good listening skills, patience, and seemed to be on the defensive. However, her prices were hard to beat, so I thought I would give her a shot. She stood me up for our second appointment, as she "forgot" about me and was meeting with a bride-to-be from out of town. On our third appointment, I had shared with her that I wanted the neckline of my dress to be cut in an oval shape. I tried to explain to her that I had an example of a neckline of a T-shirt that I really liked, and wanted to hear from her if she could replicate it. She seemed very irritated and "short" with me, and did not have the patience to answer my questions in detail. She later wrote me a text (probably because she realized that she was just trying to get me out of the door) asking if I was okay with how she was going to proceed with the neckline--I responded saying that sure, as long as the neckline of the dress was not wider than that of the T-shirt I had shown her. She wrote me back and I quote "Why would I make it wider? Why?" When I tried to explain to her, yet again, how I wanted to have the neckline be similar to the T-shirt neckline, she said that I was making her feel "uncomfortable." In my view, Dora did not have the patience to actually listen to what I was trying to communicate to her, leaving me feeling very unsure of what she was actually going to be doing to my dress, and later contacting me and when I tried to respond to her again to make sure we were on the same page, she became very defensive and STILL did not answer me satisfactorily. We agreed that I would get my money back and I seek another seamstress. In my opinion, Dora is very unprofessional and I could not recommend her. Dora is absolutely amazing at what she does, and I would highly recommend her services to all Atlanta area brides!! I was referred to Dora by the bridal salon where I purchased my dress, and I'm so glad I was. I got married in Atlanta, but I live in Los Angeles, and I was petrified about managing all the planning from the opposite side of the country. I was only in Atlanta about 3 times in the year leading up to the wedding, and Dora went above and beyond to accommodate my situation. From scheduling fittings during holiday weeks, to being willing to see me multiple days in a row, she was a godsend! Beyond her flexibility, Dora's work is impeccable, and she is a genius when it comes to bridal alterations. My dress was several sizes too big when I purchased it, and it fit me like a glove by the time Dora was through with it. She is incredibly attentive to detail, willing to schedule as many appointments as necessary to get the dress PERFECT (without increasing the price for her services!), and willing to go out of her way to make sure you're totally comfortable, have the right undergarments for the dress, and look as beautiful as possible on your big day. As an out of town bride, I had my share of stresses and worries during the wedding planning process, but I can honestly say that my dress is the ONE thing I didn't spend a moment worrying about, because I knew it would be perfect. So grateful to Dora for putting my mind at ease, spending so much time and effort on my dress, and making me feel beautiful on my wedding day.
