We transferred to Doral Academy fire Mesa campus last year, in the middle of the year. We feared that our (then) first grader would struggle to adapt. Boy were we wrong! The community at Fire Mesa is beautiful. There are top-notch, dedicated, and highly, communicative teachers and administration. Now that we are approaching the end of second grade, it is clear that my child is thriving. I hope everyone has an opportunity to feel as grateful for their school as our family does. read more

Love this school for our daughter. She was accepted this year into the 8th grade. What a difference from CCSD education and the Private schools in the area! If you can apply and get your children in the Doral charter school system, I would do so.. The charter schools like Doral Fire mesa are by far superior in education, , qualified teachers, reenforcing manners and uniforms. They have a strong PTSO, they always putting on great events for our kids, Books and Burgers, Students trips , Trunk and Treats, etc. Many fun activities and community events . This school is unorganized, trashy, AND GET THIS! my child has to call me every day for getting a "YELLOW LANYARD" because for some reason they had to implement a lanyard policy that states that your kid HAS to wear a lanyard... My two children have attended this school for years, and we have had a great experience. The teachers and administration are truly caring and supportive and have worked with us on issues when they have arisen. The counselors and restorative justice program are very helpful and help students learn how to navigate issues with other students. I have recommended this school to many friends and they have also had great experiences. read more

Beware of the Assistant Principal of this school Zack Brandt he is rude, disrespectful, and extremely unprofessional. He created a situation that should have been handled respectfully especially since he is an assistant principal and I am in disbelief of what I experienced today! I do not recommend this school for anyone's children. My daughter was in Ms Cobb's class last year and she was a good teacher the first semester. But when the second semester came around she was a whole other person. My daughter came home crying every single day after school because Ms Cobb would discriminate her and talk bad about her to my daughter's best friend. She acts like a high schooler, talking bad about students to other kids who go to the school? In my opinion this is unacceptable behavior. Especially from a fifth grade teacher. I'm disappointed that I even feel compelled to right a review about this school, because at first we felt blessed to have been given the opportunity to attend Doral after waiting patiently to get in for years and I mean no disrespect to those who made us feel at home and am very grateful for that. Get ready for a novel of a review: At first (and with the right teachers) my child was doing great both academically and socially. After that, we noticed the dynamic changed drastically. According to parent groups on Facebook and talking to other parents about my concerns it is clear that I was not the only one who feels this way. My child was well behaved at school, in fact we have written proof of that on progress and report cards. My child went from having their teacher calling me discussing how great of a student they were, to coming back to school 11 days later and having said teacher call them out in front of the entire class saying there was several complaints made about them while they were gone. Again, in front of every student in the class room. After having no complaints before. I expressed this to the principle and asked them if that many complaints made any sense since they were never in trouble before. I was not the only one who felt like this was a form of being ganged up on. We expressed how they have been bullied before, but I teach my children to problem solve and express how they feel to others without relying on adults who may not see it the way they do or see it period which brings me to my next complaint. I was told my child was kicking another student. This was brought up to me in the beginning of the year at a routine PTC as not a concern but that they (the same student who complained) both mess with each other. Also, my child apparently called another kid a monkey. The child who was climbing on the playground acting like a kid who very well could have been acting like a wild animal children tend to be when they let loose. I can't be the only one that has used that phrase to describe them acting like a wild child at some point and that is exactly were they got it from. I understood, took responsibility and am more aware that we cannot say those things because it could hurt. While discussing this, I brought up how a specific student told my child that they were not Hispanic because their skin tone is more white and I am white. The principle at the time claimed that while what my child said was in fact a racist remark, he said that what they were told is not racist and shockingly asked my child if what was told to them could have been a little bit true and taken out of context. The principle said that because they did not report anything to them directly and did not have a witness to confirm, we could not make a formal complaint. My child's father is *BROWN* and experiences racism every day in his line of work resulting in him being called names that are disgusting. Now I am not saying that the principle is racist in any way, but I am saying that maybe the school needs more support in understanding all forms of racism and bullying. We all need to do better in helping our children grow up loving everyone without even thinking about their culture and color of their skin as something that defines them. They should be proud of where they come from. In conclusion to this, I told the principle there is no other choice but to change classes or be withdrawn from the school as I was not going to send my child to a school or classroom they did not feel comfortable in. I was told I would be receiving a phone call within a few days but my child still had to face that teacher and those students. I never got that call and my emails went unanswered. I was left with no choice but to remove them and now they are thriving. Maybe we didn't donate to the school directly, maybe we didn't go to the PTA meetings or volunteer. But that should not affect the way these children are treated. Rumors spread like wildfire and it can take down a student with ease. It can make a child feel like they have no one. And that's exactly what was shown to us. I sincerely hope that the school can learn from this and I would be happy to do my part if they asked even though my child no longer attends. read more

School nurse Cindy pulled out my daughter's tooth after she said not too. On another date, my daughter had an eye allergy and the school didn't do anything to help her. I don't really recommend this school at all. I'll say it is ok, because of some other things, but education? If you want your elementary kid to be educated don't let your child go to Doral Fire Mesa. I am not saying all Doral Academies are bad, but Fire Mesa has some serious issues with an elementary school teacher. Our teacher was pretty much rude, unapproachable, rigid towards kids and parents as well. I was volunteering in the school and I know what it looks like: she is sitting at her table, kids are doing the "tasks". Kids 6 years old need help and attention. They go to the restroom without asking her, she has no idea who went out, who came back. Other kids are "telling" on those who are too long in the restroom. She lets them "learn" in small groups while they play unattended. So, that's why our son had tons of homework when he comes home tired. Not 30 minutes, we would do homework 1-2 hours per day. I would have to do her work, he wouldn't know the basics. The truth is we took our son for testing, just to make sure we aren't accusing woman for maybe our own issue. He came out mentally healthy, IQ above average. Later on, I figured most kids had bad report cards as our was. I couldn't understand how come our son reads at home, writes very well, he gets math tasks while in school she kept playing on the card " he has attention issues ", the easiest way to wash off your hands from the responsibility. So, again we check our son, nothing similar to attention deficiency. Another school worked the charm for our son. He blossomed, literally. Finally, he had structure and he told me himself: mom, this feels like school! He still has homework to do, but homework that makes him practice what he already had in school. I don't feel like homeschooling him, while he spends long hours doing nothing. Also, I want to add that we are very satisfied with middle school at Doral Academy Fire Mesa. It's another story so far. Welcome back to school! My son is a new Doral Dragon and we've come to open house and it's just absolutely amazing here! We got to experience the BRAND NEW school, before the kids destroy it. Jk. Hope not! The schematics of this school are very smooth and straightforward. Beginning with the "car pool" lane, easy to follow. Come in from the South and follow the arrows. The silent release is a brilliant idea! Your car is assigned a number, which you put on your dash, and they notify the teacher via ping. Awesome! The lower grades are on the bottom and 4th and up are upstairs. The school itself is BEAUTIFUL! So modern and spacious! This school is just amazing! My son's teacher is soooo sweet and kind! I love her already! Here you must volunteer 30 hrs, 15 can be "donations" ex: buying "wish list" items. $5 = 1hr. Awesome! They also offer "Dragons Den" aka safekey. The price is decent, and varies for lower/upper grades. I'll update more once school begins! Yay!!!! read more

Doral Fire Mesa is such a wonderful school. My daughter loves her classes like theater class, music class, violin class and even Spanish. All the teachers seem to love their jobs, and are great with the students. I also feel that the faculty are always happy, friendly and helpful. I love that they know the kids that attend Doral FM. Our family enjoys the safe learning environment that Doral Academy provides to their students. read more

This is my daughter's second year at this school. I'm grateful that this location opened up because it's so close to my house. Overall the school is wonderful. The teachers really do care and are involved. The principal is also very nice and interacts with all of the students and parents. I'm always amazed at how she remembers everyone's name. They have a variety of different fundraisers throughout the year. Got a chance to see Blue Man Group and Mystere at a discounted price thru the school. They are always doing fun events such as art shows, galas, plays, business expos (where students create/promote their own business and sell their products), etc. Besides the general educational courses, Doral offers other classes such as media, theater, dance, Spanish and violin. The school is fairly new so it's still in excellent condition and the classrooms are always very clean (at least the ones I've seen). My only complaint and this might be more of an issue for myself (because I don't have any patience) is their morning "drop off" system. You have the opportunity of either parking and walking your child to the playground or going thru the car lane where you pull over and let your child out. It's called "Drop off" for a reason but some of the parents don't understand this concept??!! Some parents will park their car, get out with their child and give hugs/kisses or have a full on conversation with their little "Johnny" or "Susie" for several minutes. This prolongs the procedure and cars end up backed up waiting forever to drop their kids off. Most folks are trying to get their kids to school on time and get to work. It's so frustrating! I can understand if a child is injured and needs assistance getting out of the car but that's never the case. Again I have absolutely no patience so maybe I just need to bite my tongue. I just don't understand if you have the opportunity to walk/ talk with your child then take advantage and escort them to the playground instead of holding up the car lane for everyone else. We left a Christian private school and moved to Doral Fire Mesa. Great school and it's our second year. Parents are required to volunteer at this school but this year we have a teacher who doesn't really welcome parents in the classroom. I understand some teachers prefer to have their own boundaries and as long as they keep the students challenged academically, grow responsibly as a responsible citizen, and provide students a safe environment, I am okay with that. Would be nice to have teachers who have more teaching experience in this great school. read more

Both of my children enjoy attending Doral Academy Fire Mesa campus, they're learning a lot and love their teachers. Son is 5th grade and daughter 2nd grade.
