Great place to find some finds I left here with a great pair of boots (I forgot to bring some with me while visiting family and I didn't want to spend a fortune either). Lucky for me they were having a sale the day I went In. I found 2 dresses like new and a tan pair of boots that still had the sticker on them all for about 21$ I think! read more

This is an excellent thrift store in Cary. I would say that their items are above average - I found a gorgeous painting for $10. Y'all my husband even said it was nice and he questions everything I buy at the thrift store! I love that they have a separate area for their fake plants. They also showcase some of their nicer/bigger items right as you walk in the store so it looks very welcoming. There are many volunteers and the ones at the checkout counter are super nice. It's decently organized. They've separated the housewares out more so it's easier to walk down the aisles. They have several shelves of books and there is a vintage counter where they hold jewelry, name brand purses, and other "higher cost" items. The only thing I would suggest is that they organize their furniture area better - it's hard to find what's for sale. Overall, this is a great place to go if you want to go "treasure hunting", save a ton of money, and support a local ministry. read more

I love this place so much!! It's very helpful when you need some home goods or warm clothing and you're on a tight budget. Also, it's awesome that they are right next to ReStore! this used to be the go to place for finding vintage and other neat items at a good price. However, someone has now decided that they are more than a thrift shop, and deals are hard to find or nonexistent . They get everything free! I have been shocked by how high they price items. The selection of silverware and other kitchen stuff is pretty good, and they have a lot of kids books if you're looking for those. The clothes and adult books are hit-or-miss. I've come here a few times over the years, but don't think I'll be back. Ever since they redesigned the inside of the store, the atmosphere just hasn't felt "right" anymore. It's a shame--maybe they're under new management? The staff just isn't as friendly as they used to be, and the checkout process was slow. I was in this thrift store today 5/7/19 and on this occasion, the lady behind the register tried to argue with me regarding this cabinet that was on sale, also wouldn't hand my three year old son the receipt for purchase and tried to take away a penny he found prior to us walking in the store.  The cashier was completely unprofessional and rude, now I don't know if she was having a bad day or what, but I've visited this store on a few other occasions before and have received similar treatment. They throw away a lot of perfectly good donations. If you donate clean, unstained clothes in great condition, they'll toss them if they're out of season, so don't even think of donating a sweater or jacket in June, or a sleeveless linen top in November. If you donate hardcover books in excellent condition, but they don't have their dust jackets, Dorcas will put them in the trash. Yes, a lot of your donations go to the landfill, not to people who could use them. read more

This thrift store is clean, well-organized, with fair prices. Additionally, the aisles are big and there's plenty of shopping carts that easily fit down them. There are two large bathrooms and several large dressing rooms (large enough to fit my shopping cart of clothes into!). They have a ton of well-displayed jewelry and "vintage" behind a glass counter and there's a volunteer working to show you things as you ask. They have regular sections for men's, women's, dresses, shoes, etc. But they also have specific sections for active wear and plus size. These volunteers really know what makes for a pleasant shopping experience! There housewares section was also great, with prices that couldn't be beat! Oh, all women's tops are $2, except for a few really nice ones. I found a cashmere sweater for $3, which was fine, except I got to the register and found out that all sweaters and coats were half off the day I came- scoring me a cashmere sweater for $1.50! I live in Durham but will definitely be making the trip to Dorcas again. read more

I appreciate what thrift shops do for people. They "reuse, reduce, recycle" but, more importantly, they offer many goods that some people could otherwise not afford. Oftentimes, as is with this thrift store, they also donate most of their profit to a worthy cause. But let's look at the good and the bad of this place honestly... The store was clean and well organized but I personally felt that the items donated were all very outdated and that their selection was extremely picked over. The place was hoppin' even on a Thursday so I assume you need to come often in order to find anything good. The price was right, the product was wrong. For that reason, I assume when they do get in nice items that they are generally very overpriced. $85 for my great great grandmas orange floral sofa complete with cat hair? Meh.... All of the furniture items were super outdated. So were the clothes. So were the appliances...you see where this is going... Worth looking at- potentially won't have what you need. I've been coming here for years. There's a little bit of everything at Dorcas, and I mean everything. I've shopped for furniture, clothes, books, music, movies, decor.... sometimes I just go in to browse but always end up walking out with something. The staff are some of the friendliest human beings I've had the pleasure of interacting with. They try their absolute hardest to make every customer experience something that is beyond pleasant, and succeed every time. Everything is clean, well-labeled, well-organized, and clearly identifiable. This isn't some neighborhood Goodwill, it's a wonderland of slightly pre-owned items. This is so much more than a thrift store, and now that I've written all of this I'm starting to regret it because I'm realizing that my special secret favorite place might become just a little more crowded. So there are good thrift stores...and there are great thrift stores. Dorcas is on a whole other level of greatness that I have rarely ever seen...and I have been to quite a number of thrift stores in my lifetime. I love a good deal, it's one of my many weaknesses, and with HUGE savings like this (1 dollar clothing??), huge store/ huge selection, 50 percent items of the day, incredibly helpful and friendly customer service, and it's going to help others less fortunate in the community this should be a go to place for anyone who lives locally and wants a great deal. Honestly, I didn't even have the time to get through this whole store because it was that big and that full of great items. I was euphoric as I found incredible items at unbeatable prices (under armour, Nike, north face Ect). The teens were ecstatic as well over the great clothing items they found. I also snagged a Sak purse for 1.50 (due to it being half off all purses day) crazy good deals and crazy low prices! This store literally made my day, and I WILL be returning next I am in Cary! read more

Wow - it's been a couple of years since I've been here, but it has only gotten better. There was a socially distanced (marked lines on sidewalk) line, they were limiting the amount of customers in at a time, and they were observing CDC protocols/recommendations & wiping carts down, dressing rooms were closed, clear arrows on the aisles, etc. Onto the merchandise! Fantastic deals to be had from hard goods to clothing to books and more. Quality, name brand items. The employees were fabulous as well - courteous, polite, & helpful. This store is part of Dorcas Ministry . This helps people that work in cary, lives in cary or study in cary . To get help you will need to submit monthly under your expenses lots of information for little bit of help as food . So much hassle and questioning for a can of food and couple meats . I had better experience somewhere else that waste my money driving there , making copies , a day off , plus I believe if some folks don't have transportation or money for fill forms or prove or anything Id , address , they will get screw . I have enjoyed coming here several times, and usually find at least one item worth getting. It's unfortunate that they seem to have started price-matching goods based on ebay prices--I think things have gotten a bit overpriced there these days--but I guess that's the way thrift stores are going lately. I appreciate that things are fairly well-organized there. I do wish they had shopping baskets available to put items in and not just the big carts, because the store is not at all designed for a bunch of people pushing big carts to get around each other. It must drive the employees working on the floor crazy to try to get around all the carts all day. Although I've had positive experiences at the store before, I had an upsetting time there today. They have signs everywhere that say that if you remove or switch the price stickers, they'll kick you out. Of course that's a completely fair policy, and I'm sure there are people trying to pull a fast one from time to time, but it isn't rare to encounter an item on the shelves with no trace of a sticker. The last time I was in, I was looking for pots to put plants in. I found a small ceramic jar with no brand marked Made in China--clearly a dollar store item--with no sticker. The signs made me nervous to ask about it, but since it looked clearly to be of low value, and I was buying several other things of obviously greater value than the little pot, I thought it would be safe to bring it to the register and ask the price. Not so--when I said, as politely as could be, "I was wondering if you could please tell me the price of this?" the woman at the checkout just goes "NO! We won't sell it to you" and puts it away behind the desk very quickly as if I'm about to snatch it and run off with it. I don't really care that I wasn't allowed to buy it, since it wasn't anything special, but I do care about how I was treated. The look on the lady's face said a lot--she assumed the worst about me. Just a really unpleasant interaction that I left feeling bad about. I worked in customer service for years...it would be one thing to say "I'm so sorry, but we have such and such policy and I'm not allowed to estimate prices, but thank you for letting us know this doesn't have a sticker." But this was DEFINITELY not that. I wish those signs also said "Don't bother bringing a sticker-less item to the counter, because we'll treat you like a criminal--just leave them to rot on the shelf." I mean, seriously, if your policy is to not sell sticker-less items no matter how insignificant they are, then please put that information on the sign too so that other people don't have to go through being pointlessly embarrassed. read more

Wow! Way better organization and selection than Goodwill. But the store was packed full of people, and most were pretty rude and unwilling to make room. I enjoyed the books being displayed out and not just dumped in a bin (like the children's books at goodwill) but they do pick and choose titles to price differently depending on desirability. Kind of takes the fun out of it a little. Kid selection is kind of dismal the 2 times I've been. But otherwise it seems there's a decent turnover of goods and the supply is continuous. Overall I'd highly recommend- but be prepared for lots of other shoppers. read more

First time visitor and there was plenty of selection at this location. It was clean and organized and the prices were good. You can find hardback book for a $1 or paperbacks for .50! For clothing you can look to spend about $2-3 for tops and the around the same for bottoms. One thing I found was that the clothing is not organized too much by size but by color. Infant clothing is $1 a piece. Kids toys in the back seemed to range $1-5. They also have a fabric and yarn section which could be something of treasures to knitters/sewers! I also found that the furniture was well priced and they have a seasonal section in the front for Christmas, Easter, etc. plenty of housewares (plates, bowls, cups). Overall this is a great store to check out for weekend shopping or thrift hopping :) read more

Dorcas Thrift Shop should be considered one of the contenders for the 8th wonders of the world, no kidding. Don't go unless you have at least an hour to spend, because one you get in there you will feel like you have cheated yourself unless you look absolutely everything over. The store is clean; the items themselves are clean, and the people who work (mostly volunteer) there are the nicest around. The items are so reasonably priced you almost feel guilty about it. There are daily specials (closed Sundays, by the way, and they close earlier than many local thrift shops - 4pm Monday through Fridays and 2pm on Saturdays if I am not mistaken) and a wide variety of offerings: everything from lots and lots of books in the back right hand corner to yards of fabric. I consider myself kind of a thrift shop connoisseur (yes, maybe that's an oxymoron), and I think Dorcas is one of the best in the area. I donate gently used items there and also shop there. They usually have a nice selection of housewares and seasonal displays as well. One thing that I appreciate about Dorcas is that they sell jigsaw puzzles, and they have a volunteer who counts the pieces of each one to confirm that the puzzles are complete. A nice touch, and especially appreciated as we snap the 499th piece of the puzzle into place. :) read more

Dorcas is an answered prayer for me. I'm currently in between jobs and I was able to find a lot of interview/ work suits at Dorcas for amazingly affordable prices. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy shopping here and how it is a God send for me during this difficult time. My husband and I frequent this store at least 3 time a week, sometimes even more. The CD's are only .50 each and my husband is an avid purchaser and avid collector. Their ladies pants, including jeans are $2 each as are blouses, tops, men's polo and polo style shirts, their jewelry selection is extensive and includes watches, necklaces, bracelets (many new with the tags still on them for $4) I purchased the end of year teacher gifts from the bracelet selecton. They all were very. very tasteful, out of the 7 I purchased two were brand new with tags. They came to a total of $24. When she was in Elementary School and had 3 teachers going to Khol's for their discount jewelry was fine, but with us both now retired we have a tighter budget, and Dorcas is our 'go to' for great items. Their selection of baby closes is huge, I literally dressed our granddaughter from the time we got her at 17 months for the first 3 years. Now she is 12 and often finds name brand or trendy items and will ASK to go to Dorcas. She just chose a beautiful red dress for a Middle School fashion show. Her middle name is Rose and she found a beautiful red dress with straps (had to be school appropriate). roushing and a namesake rosette with sequins. We paid $10. Their ladies shoe collection is extensive and vast. There is a minimal selection of men's shoes, children's sneakers and children's shoes varies from day to they. They range from infant sizes to size 4 in my experience. One last thing, they have a great thought small collection of glasswares, vases, and very nice photo frames and in the jewelry display glass case they house a few but very, nice collectibles and my favorite, designer purses are behind the jewelry counter along with guitars and on any given day various bridal gowns, which are NEW at $40 each. Many of them retail for $1300 from David's Bridal. Thanks for bearing with my lengthy post. I hope sharing this will help the Dorcas cause which is giving back to their community in Cary, West Raleigh. 99% of their sales go to their outreach programs, while the remaining 1% goes for salaries of management.
