It's been a few years since my husband and I visited Dorris. It's changed a bit. Sign in is the same. Location of some of the vehicles have moved. With this visit, we did not find too much. There are plenty of rims and tires. Most of the cars have already been thoroughly pulled apart. You have to be there early to find what you're looking for. read more

If I could give zero stars I would!!! These guys are bunch of scumbags. I was told they have the part I was looking for ready but when I got here they proceed to tell me go take it out yourself, and not mention it was never brought up during the call. I then ask if they at least have some tools for me he says no and acting like he's doing me a favor by selling me the part. I said well this was never mentioned. He then says get out and I'm not going to sell you the part. It was a waste of one hour drive. read more

If you call ahead, they have a pretty good system of knowing what's available and a lot of times the parts can be sitting out front waiting for you when you get there. I've never been to an auto junk yard before so I didn't know what to expect. Both sun visors in my 2001 car, driver and passenger side, broke off (at separate times) a long time ago. This summer have been brutal without it so I went to the dealer to find out how much it cost for a replacement. Low and behold, I was quoted $270 EACH for a brand new sun visors for an 18 years old car! Considering everything else is old in the interior of my car, I decided to go to Dorris to get a replacement after I found out that I couldn't get a universal sun visor at another auto parts store. We came on a Sunday during the Labor Day holiday. Thanks to Yelp we found Dorris and with the use of Waze ap we found the place easily. We brought screw drivers since we read here that we will need to take apart the part ourselves. We also brought the plastic part that's attaches the sun visor to the car so we knew the screw placement to make sure it will work on my car. Parking is right in front on dirt. You come in through the office/cashier. You have to sign in which is usually agreeing to a disclaimer/waiver that we didn't really read. They do ask what you are looking for and they are nice enough to tell you where the make and model of car you are looking for is located since it's really hard to tell what the vehicles are after some of them are smashed to pieces or have been torn apart. Now, this is a place where you do not wear your Sunday's best. It's also good to wear closed-toe shoes and bring gloves as well. If you do not like spiders, be prepared as there are spider webs and all kinds of dust all over the cars. To be honest, I felt the need to shower after spending only half an hour there. The vehicles are organized and there's a nice paved pathway and room to get in between cars. We did search around and when we did find the make of our car, someone has already gotten to our visors first. We ended up settling for visors from a different car because it did fit the way the screws worked with my car. It was a success and we spent about half an hour walking around looking. We checked out and they do ask what make and model car you grabbed it from. Unfortunately, I could not remember which car we got it off of. I'm not sure how their pricing work but we were charged $10 each for the visors so we paid $20 plus tax. I don't understand why we had to pay for tax considering it's a used item. I'm not very happy about that. In all, we saved $250 each for a total of $500 for both visors which I'm happy about since we spent about one hour total driving there, looking around, etc. I get that it's not a brand new item but, then again, my car is not brand new either. I just need something to keep the blinding sun off of my eyes while in the car. Mission accomplished! read more

well today was my first experience at dorris auto wreckers. I needed an alternator for my wifes car and i didnt have the time to go down to pick n pull and remove it myself otherwise i would have just done that. So i had done the online chat with Ramon and he said no problem he has 3 of them. I picked up the alternator today and drove to south sf where her car was, and it is the wrong alternator! Dammit! ok so sometimes the part number is wrong etc. So ill go back tomorrow and see what they will do. Cash refund? or just a replacement? They charged me 65 $ total and they said 5 of those bucks is for a "core charge". HOW R U GONNA ASK FOR A CORE CHARGE -YOU R NOT BUILDING ALTERNATORS AND SELLING THEM SO WHY THECORE CHARGE? read more

Dorris Auto Wreckers not only gave me a fair price for my totaled BMW, but my man Jesus a) waited around while the tow yard that had the car kept me waiting and b) did everything he could to help me recover my items from the car (I couldn't access the trunk due to the wreck). Hopefully I never need to send a car to the junkyard again but if I do it'll be with these guys. read more

Got a replacement stereo deck for my car, pulled head unit in about 10 minutes for about sixty bucks; the auto dealer wanted $500 bucks!!! I don't normally ever go to a wrecking yard, but went once for a rim. They were set up for the virus, with barriers and spacing. The worst part was a 5-10 minute wait while they got someone to help. Once they did, they understood what I needed, the worked went and got it, I paid $40, they took it to my car. I left the old rim/tire with them. Service was fine. A good experience it seemed. read more

I've been going to Dorris for about 20 years now, and I almost never go anywhere else unless Dorris doesn't have it. They may be pricey, but they are also willing to negotiate reasonably as well. However, when you get an engine or tranny from them, they give you a warranty with it. Like others have said, they remove parts for you, which is great. They also have items already organized by make so if you know what you want it can easily be found. Another thing I just noticed during the rainy season is that Dorris really takes care of their place. After the rain, the next day it was as dry as a bone. Not like those other muddy places, haha. No problem getting back down there under the car! read more

When i think of going to look for junk yard parts i always go here. If you know what your doing, you can go here sign your name and go in look for your parts with no hassle. No need to talk to a guy that seems like hes trying to rip you off for the parts you need. Nice selection of cars. And if you need help you can go back and ask them and they will assist you in dismantling the car. Oh ya like Andrew said free admission. The only negative i can think of is that the lines to pay for your parts do get long sometimes. Also the Taco truck outside is not that great, but thats another review. read more

First off, I'm a girl and super OCD and I loved Dorris! I was looking for a few interior parts for a used Beetle I'm fixing up for my mom. I didn't want to pay dealership prices, so someone told me about all the auto wrecker yards in Hayward. The guys here are great - especially Silva and the nice older man who drove me all over in a golf cart trying to find my parts. Silva even called me a few minutes after I left the first time to say he located one of the parts they couldn't find initially. Really nice experience, great customer service and super tidy place. I was impressed by the organization and cleanliness, which I totally did not expect from a wrecking yard! read more

I needed to get a part for my car so I called in to see if they had it. The guy told me he had the part in stock and that it was $35 but when I came in he said it was $75. I had to drive a long distance to get there only for them to rip me off. They do this often and it has happened to another friend of mine. Definitely do not recommend wasting your time coming here unless you are prepared to pay more than double the price they tell you over the phone. read more

If you are up to date on your tetanus shots and don't want to pay a mechanic for something you think you can do yourself then give this place a whirl. Give your last respects to all sorts of road warriors that have fallen for one reason or another. Seriously this is a classy place - there is concrete all over instead of mud like at PickNPull. You can go a day after it rains and you wont have to dodge puddles. Their prices do reflect this upscale establishment. If you can wait for PickNPull's yearly half off sale - I would recommend that if it is an expensive part. read more

Free admission, bring your tools and get busy! I can spend close to 8hrs here...to me, its like Disneyland. Dorris has a huge selection of engines, headlights, wheels and bumpers. Nice import section and classic American cars too. Prices are a bit high...but they offer FREE, parts extraction assistance, including power tools too! read more

If you come to their shop they make sure and get you served quickly. Their database of parts in their yard is excellent and impressive. I'm used to junk yards where you pay $40 to go in with your tools and either don't find what you needed or you spend a good hour or two trying to remove it. read more

Just called looking for a wheel for a PT Cruiser and they told me they couldn't find out if they had one without me coming in for them to see it. It's not a very complicated thing I'm asking for. Love the free admission and clean yard but the pricing is way too high. I priced a radio that was three times higher then pick n pull. Drive a little a save a lot! Sorry Dorris you need to make some adjustments before I come back. read more
