I've been coming here a lot for the past two years to get OEM parts for my classic BMW E30. It's hard finding parts for older BMWs and getting them the same day. Both Ray and Marshall are helpful when getting a specific part or just getting general knowledge about Bavarian engineering. They provide other services as well such as factory automotive key printing by show them your driver license ID and registration. It's unfortunate that they have been closed for the past month or so. I went in couple days ago to grab an oil filter but they're doors were closed. There is no sign posted of them closing down or relocating. I'm not sure what is going on but from what I am hearing is that they are moving to San Jose.* read more

For the record, I have known the team at 002 since 1988. These guys know the nuances of a BMW better than many professionals, what they don't do is play mind games with chiselers and weasels who rush to yelp to jump on a soap box to blather to the world about how they were done wrong by a bunch of folks whose only goal is to sell parts, pay the rent and hopefully make some friends. This is not the same buying experience as visiting whole foods thankfully. For anyone to expect uniformly dispassionate service like buying a gumball out of a machine is bizarre. How you get treated starts when you walk in, call or write. Bring your attitude, then reap what you sow. Having been in the sales transaction economy my entire life I have to say that some folks out there just aren't worth having as customers, aren't smart enough to understand what you are being told, don't comprehend the answers you were given or are simply too stupid to fix your own car and should pay someone so you can immerse yourselves in watching cat videos all day long. If you think you got a defective part, maybe you didn't check it before you left, broke it putting it in or something else. Used parts are not difficult, used part customers possibly are. Look at all the 5 star reviews here and then think about whether fixing it yourself is possible. We are all only human, the parts are not priced like groceries and the cost you are given has a lot to do with how you treat the seller. MARSHALL IS AWESOME !!! We were trying to find a rebuilt short block for a 1973 BMW 2002 and got referred to 002 Salvage. Boy are we glad we found this place. We were about to buy one used for double the price from back east. Even better was when we drove out to Hayward to see the place; It was crazy jam packed with all kinds of goodies. My friend and i came back two more times to get hinges , mirror , door panels and cranks for a fraction of what the robbers on the east coast wanted. After reading the negative reviews for Double 02, I had to write my own. I've gone to Ed for a number of years and he has always treated me with good service. He takes a thorough look at everything and lets me know if there are any suggested fixes. I didn't have him always do the work because I had another mechanic that was reliable and walking distance from my work place. But his prices were always honest and his work was very reliable. The only downside is that he is only one person, so his turnaround time isn't always the greatest. As for the one guy who brought in a part to trade - your review is silly and misleading. No one in their right mind would want to trade an decrepit part for one that you could make a profit on. Just my two cents. Anyways - I would definitely stand by Ed's work. read more

I bought a 76 2002 and brought it over to Ed to take a look, since i figure he specializes in them. i wanted him to change the oil, change the brakes, and some other cosmetic work. he said the work would take a few days. I get a call a few days later with news any car owner would dread, ed tells me my engine block is cracked. I have had my car serviced at other places and my car seemed to have been running just fine. When I go in to pick up the car, Ed offers me $500 for my car in cash or trade in for another 2002 he has in storage. I decline his offer. Fast forward to last week when I take my car in to another shop, not only is my motor not cracked, the new mechanic estimates the price of my car for far higher than $500, which was more of a spit in the face if anything. read more

There are actually two businesses here. The parts side sells used and new parts, and I have been doing business with them for over 20 years. There are some relatively new faces but I have never been sold a wrong part, and right now I have BMW's #6 and 7, an E36/5 and E70. It is true that sometimes they might seem a little abrupt, but not rude. The couple times one of the guys got a little snappy is when someone on my side of parts counter tried to tell them how wrong they were--when they weren't! They also sell new parts at a good discount, get them directly from a dealer and share the wholesale discount, or aftermarket parts if you want. Ed Kaufmann 's service work for me started with my 2002tii, and several other Bimmers, plus many satisfied references that I have sent to him. Daniel C's review is totally fabricated, so I don't know what competitor he works for. The latest job replacing my front end control arms & bushings (I supplied the parts) he also looked around and fixed an almost-broken fan belt tensioner, so I'm thankful for that. He did my leaky radiator on my E70 before I sold it for a decent price. read more

At first I played the naïve BMW owner bringing his vehicle in for some extensive work, right off of the bat ED told me what I already knew needed to be done. He did not try to upsell any service or BS repair items. If you want to brag about taking your car to the dealer that's fine, if you prefer to have your BMW in good hands, be able to sleep at night, know that you're not getting bent over, then I suggest you take your BMW to this shop. These guys do have a good amount of stock for older bmw's here. Just be weary of the "Seen everything" mentality. I Had to return to shop 4 times because according to the employee a 318 and 323 are "exactly the same" and even on my 4th visit to return an incorrect part he still tried to replace it with parts that would require painting or modification to work. Basically, come here with part to be replaced in hand and don't accept employees tenure behind the counter as replacement for bmw's intended fit and function of a part. read more

Howdy folks, Many year fan of the E36. Do much my own work, and have been dealing with this guys for longer than I care to remember. They truly are a great group of guys, except maybe the one shorter guy with glasses. Marshall and the rest of the team are always on top of their game. I go in there knowing that if I need something I know Marshall knows what he can do for me or suggestions to how to work around it. I cannot tell you how many times I have went in there and came out a happy man because they had what I wanted. The little guy with the glasses though, I have trouble with him, he needs to smile more. Very knowledgeable staff and they will find or get you what's needed. Their recommendations are on point; "if you change this, I suggest you also change that." Very dissatisfied. Have been in business for nearly 45 years in the auto salvage business and when we listed a part on line for a specified price we honored that price! Called them on a part that they showed to have around 8 in stock at 65.00. Needed to order the part for our customer, so called Double 02 to inquire. Was told there would be a call back. 2 days later after no call back, I called again. I was told that the part was in stock but not at the listed price, the price would be 150.00 plus shipping. I called regarding a part for my BMW and was quoted a price of $275 for the part. When I arrived they said the part was $375. I said that was not what was quoted over the phone. The manager checked with the person I spoke with and the person confirmed a $275 price for the part. The manager refused to honor that price saying $375 was a deal. What a jerk. Bought a headlight switch for my 2002 but discovered that it was not the part that I needed to fix my problem. This was a forty year old used switch that I had no use for so I thought that I would like to return it. I fully understood that I would not get a cash refund. I simply wanted to trade it for some other used part of equal or lesser value. The guy scowled and said that he couldn't make money if he did that for every customer. I've got news for you buddy. You now have one less customer. Add it up. You take back a perfectly good part and now you can sell it again to someone else. You give me a slightly cheaper part that I can use and you've made even more profit and gained a happy customer. You've turned a win win into a double 02 loss! Take my advice and look elsewhere for your '02 parts needs. This place is not customer friendly. read more

Have been coming to these guys since the 80's. Always friendly. ALWAYS helpful. Marshal is the owner and he is truly a great guy. So are the other people who work there! Ed is also an old timer there he is always helpful and quick to offer advice if you ask. Seem to recall the days when it just seemed like it was Walt, Ed & Marshal running the show. Prices to me seemed way more competitive then the dealer. For basically the same quality new parts. Have bought many a used part over the years from these guys too. Just remember they get soooo many phone calls through out the day. It must be so hard for each phone rep to remember each call. Recall the price quoted. If you need a price on a part ask the phone reps name and give your name and write that info. down. Don't wait days to show up then spring a price you were quoted. Heck most days I have to really make the brain sweat to remember what I had for lunch days ago let alone every single phone call and all the specifics. Ok Yelp may take this review down because I am basing it on some pretty old experience with these guys. But I saw some negative reviews and had throw in my 2 cents. Admittedly, I haven't done business with these guys in some years. BUT, back in my college days I had a love affair with Bimmers. Of course I was on a serious budget and had the poor mans versions. 3 series fixies. But went through a few of them. These guys always had everything I ever needed. And don;t get me started on Ed Kaufmann. He was the fairest and most honest guy I ever met. Always worked with me on any work I may have needed. The guy even gave me credit when I got to know him. Salt of the earth. He always gave it to me straight and gave me options. i.e Cheap fixes with used parts or the job done thorough with new parts. Whatever my budget was. Yes, the parts guys, their names escape me, could be a little gruff at times. But these guys get asked STUPID questions everyday. But I was in no position financially to be sensitive. They had the stuff I needed at a better price than anyone, new or used. But once they got to know me, got to know I wasn't a "hole" they were always pretty cool with me. It's not Macy's, it's a parts yard. So maybe things have changed. I don't know. I know it's the same guys. That's all I can tell you. Everyone I've ever referred to them was happy. Hope this helps. When I was a dumb teenager, my most prized possession was my 1970 2002. Ed and Walt kept my baby running the best that they could and always tried so hard to help me. I love the fact that Ed was the only one who worked on the cars. That way he always knew exactly what was done to them. Sure it was hard to get in to get my car fixed, but I was always absolutely sure that she was in the best hands. When i had to retire my baby for parts, Ed let me keep the key even though the starter was one of the parts he could have salvaged. He knew how much that car meant to me and took pity on me. When i upgraded to a 320i, Ed checked it out for me to make sure it was a good buy FOR FREE! Even though I left the bay a long time ago, I still think about Walt and Ed and how much they helped me. The these people are nasty and rude. I called to get a price on an engine and the sales person was a total jerk. I should have know better because they gave me a price on the phone for a part before and change the price higher after I drove down there 40 miles. BMW recycling in Sacramento will get my business from now on. This person that responds in not being truthful I told them a 2002 E39 station wagon with a 3.0 liter engine. They sell BMW parts I thought anyone selling these parts would know from that description unless they just wanted to be a jerk on the phone. I have been buying all my parts for 3 different BMW's since they sprouted on American Dr. from these guys. Know what you need and this place will serve it on a platter for you. My 91 318 blew a pinion gear, and like any other old car owner, I started searching for a new differential to replace the destroyed one. I was able to source one from a friend's cousin. I went through the work and put the diff in and guess what, it was blown too! Well I thought I'd bite the bullet and get one from a reputable source Double 02 Salvage! These guys know their stuff, I called in and got a quote on a differential that is the same as the one I originally had (a small case 4:10 LSD), and one that was a different ratio from a larger engined car (a medium case 3:73 Limited slip). They put me on hold, came back on the line a couple of minutes later with the quote. I rolled over there to get the part the next day. They were prompt, courteous and obviously car guys as we conversed about my 60's Ranchero. They came out with the differential, I checked it out and noticed the tag signified it wasn't a LSD, but an open diff. He immediately turned to the guy who looked like the tech who was there, and they went back to find another. He came out with a Med. Case 4:10 (which is considerably rarer) and said he would charge me the same as the smaller differential. It's a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for: A knowledgeable staff and a 90 day warranty on most used parts they have in stock. Having that peace of mind that if my luck was really that bad, I could get another diff if the one I bought was no good! I usually stop in here if I can't find what I need at pick n pull, and they always have the part I need! Thanks for the hard work guys! read more
