Wow! I stopped in to watch the World Cup match, that was my only inspiration, beer and sport. Of course I would eat here, it's playing through dinner but that wasn't my motivation. I ordered the typical Irish pub bangers and mash because, easy and safe. I totally forgot I was in Quebec. What I received on my plate was unexpected. A superbly tasty sausage with some mashed potatoes, and then the gravy and veggies were superb. Broccoli rabe and a half potato that with the gravy was delicious. Totally unexpected. And the bar and tables all being full did not affect the excellent service. Nonstop drinks were leaving and the barmaids moved in and out non stop as did our bartender. Delicious food, great happy hour 4-6pm, wonderful service. I was amazed at how attentive the staff was. They all helped reach other out, whoever was busy everyone jumped in. We loved the St Ambroise Rousse beer on tap, but also enjoyed gin and tonics on happy hour. But we went back 3x during our stay in Quebec because of the food!! Every dish was delicious. D'Orsay is a charming two-story restaurant in the old city of Quebec City. Lots of beautiful woodwork and a warm, inviting atmosphere set the stage for a nice dining experience. Menus are multi-lingual and the place is a little touristy. We were seated upstairs, with minimal wait. The place is a little on the loud side, but not so much that it diminishes conversation. Service was attentive and despite the large number of guests, the staff handled it all well. No complaints there. The food was also good. I had the French Onion soup, which was one of the best French Onion soups I've had anywhere. A great amount of umami flavor, and I loved the extra of green scallions diced on top. The lobster poutine was a good poutine, but I'm also now convinced that lobster should not be used for poutine. While the dish was well-executed and satisfying, it's hard to get a typical poutine gravy to cooperate with the flavor of something like lobster. So somehow it didn't work for me but I don't fault the restaurant for that at all. Definitely a nice place to dine, especially for something in the touristy part of town. read more

It comes in two sizes we chose to get the smaller for one person, the seafood chowder bowl, and the poutine. For us the Paella was the best we ever had because the rice wasn't dry. Please keep in mind we aren't connoisseurs of Paella but for us we very much enjoyed it. We noticed there were chunks of tomatoes rather than a tomato sauce. Then sausage flavor wasn't over powering like American sausages we are used to eating. It didn't over power the dish. Plenty of mussels and shrimp. The chicken was grilled and not cooked with it. That was delicious. I loved the artichokes in the paella, that was a pleasant surprise. The seafood chapter had shrimp, scallops, salmon and mussels. The chowder wasn't thick like I'm familiar with but it was ok. It tasted delicious. The picture doesn't do the seafood chowder justice. It looks like there's only two mussels. Rich in food. Very rich. Super rich. The food is delicious, but if you eat it too fast your stomach will give you the finger and force it all through your intestinal tract, and you will be in the bathroom for 25 minutes pondering where you went wrong in life. There is a reason I refused to eat all the Mac n Cheese laid out in front of me. It beautiful and tasted great, but knew from my first three bites I would never make it back to my hotel, so I planned not to eat the whole thing. The fish tacos are good but are real dense. These are no San Diego fish tacos either, those are real deal filled. These fill more or less like a shared appetizer, adding no real substance or character to the restaurant. They felt out of place. Maybe add in some cheese to them and I would be a bit more forgiving. I did like the 1920's vibe in there. I love history, and anything turn of the century always feels special no matter what it is. Lunch on a cold day in February. The atmosphere is very touristy and the menu was the classic oversized one page menu with lots of pictures and it was laminated. This was my sign that the food was likely to be mediocre but we were very cold so we stayed. We sat at the bar, bartender was very friendly and efficient. Lots of draft beers, many were local. I had the signature beef burger. It was overcooked and just not that tasty. I tried the poutine. The gravy was good and the fries were good. The cheese was pretty dry and rubbery. The bartenders are friendly and the atmosphere is good. The reason for the low rating is simple: I sat at the bar and watched the bartenders pour my drink as well as drinks for others. They use a jigger, which is an exact measurement of how much alcohol is being poured. They consistently poured every drink 4mm below the fill line. That is called a "short pour" and it was consistent on every drink. So if you enjoy being ripped off please go to this place. I will never return. read more

I felt there could have been better balance between the sauce and seafood that was in there. Now, what a surprise. The dish I thought I just would get to be safe was a hit. The pork. The pork was crispy outside and tender inside, juicy, perfectly cooked with hint of glaze. And to make it even better was bed of wild rice it was served with. Tangy and sweet to really work with the pork that was served while giving it distinctive texture pork was missing. Absolute delight. I am going to try to emulate this one at home! An alright restaurant for me. The combination of very slow service and cooking in combination with compact seating took away from my enjoyment of the food here. The food was overall alright -- The seafood chowder had a very light and creamy broth but it was filled with fresh seafood. I found the paella to be a bit overseasoned with too many herbs and wine which overpowered the flavor of everything in the dish. The texture of most of the components was tender however, but overall hard to eat because of how salty the dish was. The seafood fettucine was probably my favorite item I tried, which was rich and creamy and had a nice assortment of fresh seafood. The mussel et frites were fresh and light, though the fries were a bit on the hard side instead of crispy. This was lightly seasoned. The deluxe poutine was almost a bit sweet. I didn't love the cheese, which lacked the squeaky texture I was looking for - and I didn't particularly love the flavor of the gravy. With that said though, some people do like this cooking style and flavor, so I can see how this restaurant's cuisine caters well to them. But personally, I just found it to be alright. read more
