Being able to snag a table here, or anywhere for that matter, is nothing short of a miracle. It seems like all of North America decided to holiday in Quebec City for the Labor Day weekend! The streets are jammed with cars, people, and cruise ships nearby dumping thousands more on to the quaint alleyways. The restaurant is located off a very steep multi tiered stairway, about two-thirds up from the bottom. We had a table that enabled us to watch all of humanity going up and down the stairs. It was most entertaining... especially those carrying baby strollers, of which there were many. Having an outside spot on the patio with a bistro style type table did not allow for much space, but we made it work. The menu is fairly abbreviated, yet it covers enough ground to satisfy most, with appetizers, salads, burgers, and entrees. I chose the pork ribs with fries, coleslaw, and a slice of pickle. At $30. CAD (approx. $22 US). The portion was just right, and the ribs were succulent and fell off the bone, easy to eat. The sauce was just right. The fries were good, and the slaw was tasty. I had a Boreal beer, blanche, that came with an orange wedge. It was quite good. Our server was very personable and did an excellent job throughout the meal. I wouldn't consider this place a high-end eating establishment, but it's good competent food at a fair price in a tourist area. read more

After looking around I decided on this restaurant as they offered foie gras. Yes. This time the foie gras is the torchon. It was definitely a great choice. The accoutrements that came with when eaten together was phenomenal! It was a perfect ending to a great trip! And of course I ordered the salmon tartar to balance out the foie. However the tartar was only so so. Needed more citrus and Flavor. Location is wonderful. And hostess was surprised that I wanted to sit inside. Haha!! Yes I'm not a patio person. I don't get why people would want to eat in the heat and sun. But that's just me... also I don't like taking up tables and there was only a 4 top left out there. read more

Lovely cafe with exceptional service and wonderful food. The mushroom and goat cheese raviolis looked good to me, but I was confused when the menu had an "extra duck" charge. When I asked; I was told the original recipe included duck; however, to appeal to the many vegetarians in the area, they now offer ravioli with just mushrooms and goat cheese. I asked the maitre d' his recommendation and he said definitely with the duck. I was hesitant, having only tried Chinese style duck and not enjoying it, but I decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did! It was truly delicious. I also asked the maitre d' to recommend a wine pairing, and I was introduced to a new favorite wine. I had never heard of "Scia" wine, and it was lovely. Since my ship was in port the following morning, I went back to the restaurant and purchased a bottle to go. I am hoping to be able to purchase this Italian wine in the States. This is such a wonderful little place at the top of the steps. You will not go wrong eating here. read more

We had an amazing dinner at Le Repaire tonight. We started with the Cajan prawns and pineapple as well as the 4 cheese plate. Both were incredible. We then had steak and fries which was also so good. Excellent flavour and the au jus was yummy. Definitely recommend it for a lovely meal with a view. read more

Stopped for lunch while exploring old town Quebec. Sitting outside people watching was fun, they had heaters so fall temps were no problem. Great friendly service. We had the French onion soup, salad, pork tenderloin and wild game pie. Everything was really good. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I was walking around Quebec City looking for escargot when I came across Le Repaire. I ended up getting escargot and French onion soup and they were both incredible. I got to sit outside and he view overlooking the Rue du Petit Champlain is fantastic as well. Both staff members I interacted with were incredibly friendly as well and were able to assist in a English. I highly recommend checking this place out if in Quebec! read more

Long story short don't bother wasting your money here. Service was the worst and in addition the food did not taste great either. My steak was room temperature when it was delivered to my table. The manager (with an attitude) took it back to kitchen, put it in oven then re-delivered. This time it was warm, but extremely hard. I once again complained and he insisted that he food tasted good without really hearing what I had to say. I'm not the person to complain about how food tastes, but when it's cold and I'm paying well over $30USD, I want my food to be hot. Lastly, the manager/owner had a group of 4 of his friends sitting in a back corner. He made sure to check on that table constantly, however the rest of the tables including mine, only got the check-in from waiters. This is fine, but it makes sense to treat everyone the same, especially your money making customers. read more

Near the top of the Petit Champlain, a wonderful bistro with excellent service, (also fluent English) magnificent view on the balcony and delicious food. We just stopped for lunch...a most tasty 9 inch salmon 2 pizza that I had never sampled before was a highlight along with a lightly battered, cooked to perfection calamari, accompanies with their apple zesty house sauvignon blanc. Great little place! Stopped for early dinner. Staff very, very nice and helpful (got turned away from two other places, because we were 5 - 2 adults and 3 kids on a long weekend...) Restaurants in touristy areas usually are disappointing. This restaurant was the opposite. We stopped for drinks but ended up staying for 4 courses. The manager Jacques was very helpful and passionate with helping us us pick some menu items, and we were absolutely thrilled with the selections: bison tartar, cheese selections, wine, and an incredible meat pie. Charming place with both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is stone with a wall from the 1600s. My wife and I got the Steak Frites while my one daughter ordered salmon, the other the veggie burger and my youngest daughter the pizza. All of us really enjoyed the meal. The sauce with the steak frites was so good that I dipped my bread in it. The owner walked around to ensure people were enjoying their meals. By the way, it is located in one of the most charming streets in Quebec City. Definitely worth the trip. read more

We were sat here at an awkward corner table because we were only a party of 2 when there were multiple other tables open. We them co tinued to sit for almost 10 min with no greeting. We got up to leave bc of no service. I forgot a shopping bag and went back. The manager, after I asked said "oh yeah, only water" and literally tossed my bag at me. We started with a local cheese plate and then followed it with mushroom/goat cheese ravioli and duck sausage papardelles. The pasta melts in your mouth. So I'm giving this a 2-star rating because of the beer. The service was good and the food was good, but the beer was suspect. So I'm a bit of a beer snob and have sampled over 2000 beers. Over the past 4 days in Canada, I've sampled 30 beers. There was only one I could not stop thinking about. It is the IPA Nord Est. I have had it four times at three different locations prior to today. Every time the beer looked and tasted the same--fabulous! 5 star on Untappd. This time the beer was less opaque and tasted significantly watered down. I mentioned it to the bar tender who told me "it depends on the position of the keg. Sometimes when you turn the keg upside down, it changes the look and taste of the beer." I've never heard this before. This was not the same beer. I paid more for a shit beer. I saw the bartender pour from the Nord EST tap and saw the same result. Something fishy is going on here. The good news?--I don't ever have to drink here again. read more

Sorry but I cannot imagine how this place got so many four and five star reviews. It was recommended by a tour guide and we should've been wary because of the 15% discount that they provided us. These are the markers of a tourist trap. But when we saw so many positive reviews and yelp we went for it. Big mistake. The duck confit small plate was so incredibly salty and the small green salad it came with was more than slightly wilted. But the worst was nachos which were made with clearly out of the bag tortilla chips and strange congealed and possibly processed cheese, and on top of that burnt and overpriced! The wine by the glass was pretty good but the serving was no more than 3 ounces for $10. And then of course as should be expected, the 15% promotion only applied to the food so in the end a below mediocre level snack of two appetizers with a small serving of decent wine for over $50. We were seated quickly and served water and beer. But after that our house salad took a while to come. Then we noticed other tables that had been seated after us were getting their meals. We continued to wait a few minutes and finally I asked directly. They didn't seem to know what had happened to the order. By this time it had been almost an hour waiting.
