I have been back recently to this location and it was nice. We were quickly greeted by the bartender. We were not talking that loud and he heard our order and quickly poured them. I like that. The beer is good, and this time I tried a michelada as well. Also, quite good. There was a softball fundraiser for San Marcos High, so we also had the option to get some food in the parking lot which was amazing. As it was a warm day, the food went perfectly with the beer. While I didn't love the beers, I liked them well enough. The place is very small but it's cozy enough and they have done a lot of good things with the space. It's casual and welcoming. I thought the lagers and stouts were good. The black cherry stout (sounds weird but it's not) was particularly delicious. I found the IPAs to be on the thin side. I appreciate that they have a good variety of styles to select from. 6 taster flights for $10 is a solid deal. You get to sample a lot of beers for a good price. They've got shuffleboard and cornhole and it's kid friendly, too. They've got a few snacks for sale inside or you can bring in outside food, no problem. Very friendly staff. read more

Great beer! Came here tonight on a Wednesday to grab a quick drink after the long day of work & I'm quite happy that I did! It was fairly quiet but I got to try their new holiday stout, their oatmeal stout with vanilla & nutmeg and watch the college basketball game going on. I've been here before and I must say, this place does not seem to get the exposure it needs. Living right up the street I almost always head to vista or oceanside for brews and after tonight- realized this place is just as good. Their beer selection ranges from a red to cream ale to IPA & Oatmeal Stout - all of which are good mind you & it's located right behind the Edwards movies in the industrials behind San Marcos blvd. I definitely recommend this place to try out- it seems to be less busy which is sometimes a good thing when you want to steer clear of the loud bar scene and the place initially has a large bar that's pretty welcoming. I came to Dos Desperados after stopping at the nearby Rip Current location. Maybe it was the relative superiority of Rip Current's offerings (they were Great American Beer Festival 2015 Very Small Brewery of the Year, after all), but I ended up unimpressed with Dos Desperados. It may well appeal to you, but it wasn't my mug of beer, so to speak. Service was decent, but there were two groups of regulars at the bar and they got all the bartender's attention--the usual and admittedly very human service flaw I see at locations that don't draw new people very often. Unfortunately, on my visit at least, the regulars weren't the sort of people I would want to spend time with. Classic bro/toxic masculinity BS. I'm not kidding: There was very nearly a fist fight between a regular and an off-duty bartender, something I have never seen at a craft brewery. On a different day, maybe the service/clientele issues would have been different. Don't let my experience on those fronts keep you away. However, the beer wasn't up to San Diego standards, in my opinion. Of the four beers I tried, one was literally the worst beer I've ever rated (out of nearly 1000 beers) and the other three were "meh" to "average." Other folks seem to like the place and the beer, so take my review here with a grain of salt. We were desperately looking for a great place to hold my retirement party. After having been recommended Dos Desperados Brewery by Aaron (the best Taquero on the planet) I called Steve (the Owner) and made plans to hold my party here. It could not have been easier and Steve could not have been more accommodating. We met up with Dan, the bartender, to discuss the particulars and let me tell you, we were sold in seconds. This freakin guy not only knows his stuff, but is the most welcoming, friendly, and easy going dude you could ever want taking care of you. From the set-up, to the drink specials, to making sure everything was perfect, the entire experience from top to bottom was superb and the most pleasurable and memorable experience I will take into my retirement days. And the PRICE was more than right! My family, my co-workers, and my best friends all showed up to sample and drink some of the finest beers around while enjoying some true fellowship and conversation. (Bourbon Aged Stout is my personal favorite.) We bought everyone their first round, and then had all-you-can-eat street tacos. For 6 hours, we talked, we laughed, we told war stories, we reminisced, and everyone can say they were well taken care of. Dan and his crew went to great lengths to make sure everyone had a great time, and we ended up closing the place down at 10PM. Steve and Dora showed up to greet us and make us feel like family. We cannot thank them, Dan and the staff for making this transition of our lives into retirement a true joy and as easy as you could ever want it. And for my law enforcement buddies that are looking for a great place to have your retirement party, please consider Dos Desperados. Hey there cowboys... tucked into an unassuming area of San Marcos is one of your new favorite breweries. It's one of mine for sure, and I'm a beer guru ;-) I wish this was closer to my house! It was a random pick for our three-brewery tour and we're so glad we pulled it. Very friendly staff (Justin was working.... man, I hope I got his name right!). Plenty of room to mingle, play corn hole and walk around. Did I mention an excellent and diverse selection of beers? We think their beers are better than average and like the Western theme of the brewery. The owner is very hands on and can usually be found working at the business. Recently, we attended the Pancho Villa birthday celebration. It was a fun time full of beers, tacos and a mariachi band. Dos Desperados shines in the sea of San Marcos Breweries. If taken literally the name implies a desperate criminal, but what is in a name? The upstanding folks at Dos Desperados can hold their heads high and serve their local craft brew to the most fastidious patrons. I have been here twice, the first time was at a Yelp brewventure and I paid more attention to my amigos than the brewery itself. When I returned last week I was pleasantly surprised to have awesome an brewtender who was polite and soft spoken. But what I enjoyed even more than the brewery itself is the Ruff RYEder beer, an excellent rye IPA. This hoppy beer deserves to be a permanent fixture on the menu, it is excellent. The tasting room was clean, cool and they have pretzels so yay! Now to the most important part, the beer. They had a great variety, something for everyone. Our group tried all of the beers they had and every single one was awesome! I mean really, all 4 of us were happy and loved all of the beers. Each was true to its style and had great taste. So good! In case you haven't noticed, I make it to a brewery or two. Dos Desperados is one of the good guys. The beers are good and reasonably priced, the decor is nice, and the employees are great. There are enough beers on tap that there should be something for most people to sip. I'd certainly recommend Mamacita's Creme Ale for the Miller Lite crew, and the Vanilla Oatmeal Stout, the Double Dealer, or the Gunsmoke for the initiated.
