This was my first and last visit to this location. We came for trivia night and were shocked by how rude and hostile the female bartender was. I initially brushed it off as a fluke, but as the night went on it was clear it wasn't just me. Multiple people in our group and others experienced the same behavior throughout the night when ordering food and beer despite being polite and friendly to her. The final straw was when our friend was walking to his car with his 2 kids and she goes out of her way to yell, "Bye, princess!" At this point enough is enough and we asked to speak to the manager. As we are explaining to him the crazy aggressive interactions we had she began yelling at us from behind the bar and even raised her hands as if she wanted to fight. Now things are getting heated and we asked for our bill before it escalates any further. The manager passively apologized for her and comped one of our tabs but didn't leave us confident anything would actually change. I thanked him for his gesture but explained it's not about the money, it's the crazy treatment to customers just trying to enjoy their night. After reading other yelp reviews, it's clear this isn't an isolated issue. It's unfortunate because we love Pizza Port, but we won't be back to this location. The food was decent and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful, but one employee completely ruined the experience. read more

My friends and I have been making the rounds to different Sunset Trivia locations throughout North County, and this week we decided to give Pizza Port San Marcos a try. If you're coming for Thursday night trivia, I'd definitely recommend arriving before 5:00 p.m. We got there just after 5 for the 6:00 trivia start and were lucky to snag one of the last larger tables. Also, if you're planning to eat, order early, the food truck gets backed up on busy trivia nights. It took about an hour for my pizza to come out. Unfortunately, the biggest downside of the evening was the service from one bartender (receipt said Leah). Multiple members of our group had interactions that felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude. One friend asked which beer was the fruitiest, and instead of answering or saying she'd be right back, the bartender responded, "I'm helping others right now," and walked away. Our trivia team ended up winning the free pitcher midway through the night, but since only two of the five of us were drinking beer, we politely asked if there was another option or if we could save it for a future visit. Initially we were told our name would be written down for next time. Later, when another friend asked about it, he was met with the comment, "Maybe your team doesn't need a pitcher." My friend spoke to another employee about that interaction who apologized for the experience, and generously offered us a six-pack instead, which was appreciated. The interaction unfortunately escalated after that, with the bartender following my friend outside yelling an inappropriate comment to my friend as he was walking his young children to the car. When members of our group tried to calmly explain the situation to a manager, the bartender became visibly confrontational, making motions as if she was going to approach the group angrily, and repeatedly threatened to call the police. All of that was inappropriate and overall confusing. It was an uncomfortable ending to what should have been a fun trivia night. The venue itself is decently sized for events but does run pretty warm and humid, with limited airflow. It's disappointing because the pizza was good, trivia was fun, and the rest of the staff we interacted with were pleasant. However, one employee's attitude overshadowed the entire experience. Great place to hang out with friends, grab a good beer and even a slice of pizza, beer buddies or a salad. This location finally has a pizza truck, so there is good food to go with the good beer as well as usually one rotating seltzer on tap. They always have one beer on a $4.00 special, so it's quite affordable. There is beer to go as well in six packs or more. If you don't drink beer, they make an amazing non-alcoholic root beer too! I come here a lot (maybe too often), but the staff has always been so amazing. The regulars are also great and they are quite welcoming. I've seen people in their 70's all the way down to their 20's (21 and over for drinking alcohol of course). For a great place with great people, and great pizza, this is the place. read more

We like to come here on Thursday's for trivia, but recently we have been very disappointed in the service. There are usually some very nice guys behind the bar but the last couple of visits the girl behind the bar on multiple occasions was rude and is not helpful at all. She rolls her eyes and is rude when you ask for anything and don't you dare correct her if your order is wrong. She will make sure she lets the staff know the customer is wrong. It makes it hard to want to come back with staff like that. Good pizza, fun events, a bad apple ruining our time here. Looks like a few other people have encountered this as well. read more

The pizza is fantastic! Great crust that is consistent a slam dunk. There is a wide selection of beers that makes it hard to choose, but a good challenge to have. Order at the counter service for food and separately for drinks is efficient. The turnaround on getting the drinks is immediate and food come out at a good pace. Depending on the night/time seating can be limited, but usually something opens up after not too long of a wait. We regularly visit Pizza Port! read more

The only true constant is change. That's the thought running through my mind as I write my 3rd Yelp review for the same exact brewhouse. That's because what was once Port Brewing, as a part of Lost Abbey, is now Pizza Port. The Lost Abbey brand is still Lost Abbey, but is not associated with this location. Port now belongs to Pizza Port & both of those are brewed here. & now there's a new taproom to go with the rebranded brewing operations. As taprooms go, it's the basic industrial brewery setup on opening day. Everything is shiny & new, though. Service is prompt & efficient, which is quite something on day 1. The beers are the iconic excellence that Pizza Port has been for decades. Even if there's less beers on tap here than other Pizza Ports. Shockingly, there's no food, yet. A Pizza Port food truck is said to be in the works & on the way. I will certainly be back to check that out. So, it's a provisional 4 stars for now. Stopped in last night for the first time. As of the writing of this review (4/27/24) they are not yet offering food, but will be some time in the near future. Our bartender was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the beers. They have brews on tap and canned too. The variety is pretty good too, if you're not in the mood for the standard IPA, they have lagers and ales on offer. The tap room is pretty big but the current service area is a little tight, so be prepared to stand if you come at a busy time. All in all, this is a great addition to the San Marcos brewery scene. read more

I literally love their beer! Mongo! Wipeout! I am a fan! I got to spend some time at this brewery on two occasions this weekend and as I was waiting for my husband to finish his " Waffle (bike)ride" The staff were really nice and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I tried other stuff I would normally not have liked like stouts and or a bourbon barrel aged barley wine, which is actually made by Lost Abbey, aa they are partnered with them here. Alex is the man! One of my friends is a local distributor and generously invited me along to sample Port Brewing's liquid product and learn about their brewing/canning process. Like most people who may have not googled Port Brewing and Lost Abbey's relation to each other beforehand, be sure to ask the staff of their story. I find the whole craft brewing industry in Southern California fascinating and really enjoy meeting people who are passionate of their work just by how animated they get speaking about it. Located like most breweries in an industrial area with easy off street parking. They have a numerous amount of selections; amongst them, I tried Board Meeting, Santa's Little Helper, Carnevale, Bat Out of Hell, Deliverance. I'm a huge fan of bourbon barrel brews. Beware, the taster portions are generous! Suggestions for the future: a flight board or labels to mark the tasters. My friends and I ordered a lot of tasters and our server could not easily identify the pours afterwards...just keeps one dark pour separate from the next. read more

Port Brewing Co and The Lost Abbey are joint establishments... HUMP DAY HAPPY HOUR 5-830p!!! This is definitely the hang out spot on Wed nights until 830p. Very inconspicuous location since it's located in an industrial area. You'll know when you're there when you see a ton of cars in the lot. There were 4 food trucks to accompany your beer tastings and we ended up having Mad Maui BBQ to assist in soaking up the alcohol. There are a couple tables outside for you to enjoy your meal, but I recommend taking it inside so you can eat and drink. You are unable to take your beer out to the lot where the food trucks are located. The Lost Abbey is inside a warehouse with a couple bars inside. You sit on large cement bags on top of barrels - pretty cool! Barrels are used as tables around the warehouse, where there were a lot of patrons standing around. The servers are friendly and generous in providing samples of beers. I ended up having 3 samples before finding the one I enjoyed the most. When I checked into Foursquare, I ended up getting a free 4oz of any beer I chose. NICE!!! What I liked the most about LA is the fact that you're able to sample as many beers in 4oz tasters glasses for $1 each. Should you decide you want a 16oz, it's just several bucks more. $1 tasters! This place shares a location with Lost Abbey, and was our first (and second) stop on our mini So-Cal beer tour. I remember enjoying the taster that I got (it was either of their porter or stout), but I couldn't have more than one since I was the DD. The boys, though, each bought 2-3 to split between themselves. We had a bit of a tough time finding them (I drove right past the side street I was supposed to turn down), but with the relaxed atmosphere and cheap tasters, we will definitely be returning to enjoy more! read more

I visited here on a Sunday during a Chargers game and they had the games on a few flat panel TVs. They offer tastes and flights of both the Port Brews and Lost Abbey selections. You can buy bomber bottles or growler fills of many of their drafts. This place has a chill atmosphere and the workers are comical and knowledgeable. I feel like this place is a bit hard to review on its own. It literally shares the same space as Lost Abbey. Same taproom, same location, same taps... they just have their own lines. I really only happened to try some of their beers because I wanted to go to Lost Abbey. It was pretty fun to find out that they are practically three breweries in one. The space is very open. You can see the brewhouse from the taproom, as it is all an open space without any walls separating the different spaces. There really only are tall tops or the bar to choose from. We enjoyed our time here and really enjoyed a couple of the beers as well. I am glad to have tried a new to me brewery while seeking out another! read more

There are barrels scattered throughout the tasting room with space to rest your beers on. My only gripe is that the bartender didn't take the time to tell us which tasters were which so we spent a good amount of time pretending like we were Sherlock Holmes. Ah, Lost Abbey. The perfect place to kill the two hours you're probably going to wait to get into the Stone Brewery tour. In fact, since it's within a mile or so from it, your best bet is to go over to Stone first, get your ticket for the tour and then come over here and get yourself hammered with the wide selection of Port beer. At an average of $1 a taster, you're really going to be getting that cheap buzz going well before you learn the wonders of Stone's brewery and in the process, the fact that this place takes such a blasphemous take on religion with its labels, beer titles and everything gives it the chance to actually top the experience you have at the Wonka of Beer locations that is the Stone Brewery stone garden.. I do lament the fact that they no longer have chairs - or littler barrels that you can sit on to enjoy your drank and all. But I bet they just want you to stand so that way you GTFO, you lousy drunk! Don't you know that Tomme is busy carbonating his beer?! Another pet peeve is that some special beer releases aren't allowed to leave the room. Meaning, you drive here to get the special release and you have to open said bottle and consume it there. It's as if the brewery thinks it's an Everlasting Gobstopper and you're just going to run to Cogsworth to sell it off to get your family out of living in crushing poverty in some shack eating cabbage water! So how is their beer? Damn delicious. They do like to put a lot of strange shit into it. I don't know how often you run into breweries that will dump raisins into a beer. But it does taste good - so at least there's that. But yeah, raisins? Pfft, come on, what next? Prunes?! Oh wait, there's a beer like that. One stand out for me is their Red Poppy. I love that shit as well as their Angel's Share. Named so because whenever you put alcohol in a bourbon barrel and let it sit to soak in that oak flavor, the angels are going to take their share and some of it will simply float off into space. Great prices for what is essentially the true to form brewery experience as you are in an industrial parkway. And really, if you can't get drunk in office/warehouse spaces, where the hell can you get your drink on? read more

Came to Port Brewing for their Christmas in July event - it was really cool! They re-released their christmas ale (Santa's Little Helper Imperial Stout) after being aged 6 months in bourbon barrels - YUM. They also released Duck Duck Gooze - a play on words, it was a gueuze beer (a type of lambic). It was pretty tart, but honestly I liked it a lot more than I usually do (I'm *just* warming up to sour beers recently). At any rate, the event was rad. They had a Santa there, live music, a bunch of good pizza, and it was a Toys For Tots drive! Get to drink a bunch of beer *and* help kids get christmas presents?!? SWEET! I don't mean to go against the grain here but it an opinion after all. First of all let me say that Port Brewery offers one of my favorite beers...Wipeout IPA. Without a doubt, this beer offers plenty of hops to give it plenty of attitude. My beef with this place is not the quality of the product, rather that it is very difficult to purchase as a customer. The first couple of times I went in, I was helped by Tim who was very accommodating. Got me what I needed, had a beer at the bar and was off on my merry way. The last time I went in, it was basically an Act of Congress to get anyone to help me. Once I did speak to someone, I was told that "we don't sell to the public". WELL WHERE DID I GET THE KEG I'M RETURNING FROM??? Anyway, great beers...good selection. Such a fan that my tap handle is from Port. All I ask is that you sell to those who want the product. I really wanted to like these breweries but I couldn't. The bartender that helped us didn't smile at all. We felt very unwelcome. The tasting room had poor air circulation with flies buzzing around. And there were forklifts driving through the middle of the tasting room. What's with the room capacity sign? It read something like "Room is limited to "420" type of people". Tried: Lost Abbey's Witch's Wit: Really light in body and color. Very muted flavors. Port brewing's Mongo and Wipeout IPA- They were both pretty good. Nothing special. Tried 1 more Port Brewing beer but it was forgettable. All in all, I'd rather go to Green Flash for $1 tasters, where there's better beer, customer service, and atmosphere (and air circulation). read more

Phenomenal brewery with stellar selection, amazing variety in taste and style, and just great overall beer! Some friends and I visited here for the first time yesterday and this jump toward the top of my list for SD County breweries. The brewery is smaller and is organized in the usual brewery fashion; bags of grain and hops piled high, hoses lying around and such. As you walk in, you can't help but notice this room off to the side with stacks and stacks of barrels. In the barrel room there are beers aging in wine, bourbon, brandy and other barrels in process of creating some of the best beers around. This was a sight to see. We got to try there fresh-hopped High Tide IPA. It was great! Other rare tastes were Funky Barrel, Older Viscosity and Veritas (soooo good I almost forgot the name). The staff was more than knowledgeable and very down to earth. Their willingness to answer our questions and indulge our appetite for everything beer made this trip that much better. If you're a fan of beer, particularly local craft beers, make this a must see on your list. It was a great time and I will be back as often as I can afford. read more

Good beer, bad attitudes. Just buy at your local store and enjoy elsewhere, because I have never had a good experience with the staff here. Normally it's not a big deal because it's not like I'm coming to enjoy their company. This general experience was capped off when I tried to visit today- I made a point to search Yelp for breweries that allowed dogs. Port/LA came up. Nice! Except when I got there, I was "greeted" by an extremely abrupt employee who told me dogs weren't allowed. I said, oh, no problem, but you should update your Yelp." He continued to be weirdly aggressive like I was going to try and stay. It was overall super weird. read more

There is no sign for the brewery--trust your GPS and look for the grain bins (partly hidden by a tree) on the left as you pull through the parking lot. It is dark, dingy and a little dirty as you walk in. The bar/tasting area is nothing fancy (quite a different feel than the Port/Lost Abbey location in Cardiff, which I really enjoyed). There were some regulars at the bar; they got friendly service. In contrast, my opening exchange went exactly like this: [Me, bright and cheery] "Hello! I would like to try a flight, please." [Her, flat and annoyed] "We don't do flights." What she SHOULD have gone on to say was, "but you can have a taster of anything you want to try. What sorts of beer do you usually like?" She didn't. So instead, I had to try to save the situation myself: "Okay, tasters then." The basics of customer service are not hard. Treat people kindly, help them navigate the experience so that they enjoy it, and maybe try to sell them something. This is not "extra", it is basic. If someone cannot provide good customer service at a tasting room, they should be in a different role. While I understand the decision to not offer flights (there's a case to be made that you need a full pour to really get to know a beer), it is still probably a mistake from the customer's point of view. I ordered my four tasters, but now I had four glasses in front of me, no tray to carry them on, and no way to keep track of which is which. If you sell tasters, why not make the flight experience a good one? Certainly, since most tasting rooms offer flights, don't treat the customer as being at fault when they ask for one even if you don't offer flights. On top of the less-than-good finding/parking/entering/service experiences, the beer was just okay. That's partly personal preference (I don't love the Belgian styles they focus on under the Lost Abbey brand, for example), but I just don't think the beer lives up to its reputation. The portbrewing.com website is a mess. You can't find an address for the tasting room, for one thing. The banner at the top says "closed early due to holiday" (what holiday?). The banner at the bottom as a link to "2014 San Diego Beer Week Schedule." The last entry on the "Blog" page was October 2014. Just take the page down, for goodness sake! The lostabbey.com website is a little better. But the "Tasting Room" link still doesn't tell you the address (you have to find the "Hours and Directions" link, then follow that, too. Even remembering this experience makes me grumpy. I'm going to go have a beer. I am on a quest to visit every brewery and tasting room in San Diego. read more

Not my favorite tasting rooms, but this is one of the classiest breweries in the country. Generous tasting pours of all the beers are only $1. There's a nice long bar and a few TVs if you're trying to catch some sports. A hot dog cart is the only food to be found, and I think it's only there on weekends. There isn't a lot of one off and super rare Port beers here, but it's still amazing to have this draft list under one roof. It looks like you're driving to a warehouse and the stools will hurt your but (bags of malt on kegs look cool but are not comfortable), but don't let that dissuade you from great beer. read more

Port Brewing...after a complete let-down from Lost Abbey tasters, you have picked up after your duet partner, and have carried our tastings a bit further. The right side of the menu board lists numerous Port beers (left being set aside for Lost Abbey). We tried a couple of their tasters, and they were really good! I do have to give high praise to their Board Meeting brown ale. Great notes of coffee and chocolate, and neither overwhelming each other, let alone the beer! I'm still left with a sour taste after trying Lost Abbey beers (and being disappointed) first...but I also trust my friend after he stated the other Port beers we didn't try were good. I'll have to come back for more to try more of these wondrous beers...so for now, I'm a three star! read more

Needing to kill a couple of hours after our visit to Stone and before our flight back home to Texas, we drove the few miles North to stop by and enjoy everything that Lost Abbey and Port Brewing had to offer. And because they share the same tap room and all, I'm just going to copy and paste this review for both, because it would be damn near impossible to differentiate between the two in these rambling paragraphs. The actual brewery and tap room were way smaller than I had in mind. As with other breweries, this is nestled nicely in an industrial/business warehouse park with a bunch of signage out front that let you know you're in the right place and read to be embraced by everything these breweries can offer. The taproom here is right alongside several conical fermenters and is quite long with a collection of Lost Abbey art on one wall and all of the Lost Abbey/Port tap and bottle listings on the other wall. Everything is priced out either by taster, half pint, or pint. And since this is California, land of the free, you can buy your bottles of Track #8, Track #10, or freshly hopped Port IPA right then and there. All of this while jamming out to tunes, playing board games, and enjoying the fresh SD County sunshine. If you want something a little bit lower key than the big Stone brewery in Escondido, head on up to San Marcos and stop by Lost Abbey/Port. read more

This is in the same place as Lost Abbey and Port brews are on tap in the Lost Abbey tasting room so it's two stops in one really and not two separate things. I was glad this was a joint venture as Pizza Port is usually jamming pack that I have a hard time sitting and enjoying several beers. Also, I like doing tasters so I can try more stuff! Like I've put in my Lost Abbey review, our beertender was chill and I like the lowkey, no frill vibe of the place though the crowd definitely was very different from us. The BF and I got some Port pint glasses and the swag here is very reasonable price. Our pints were $3. Most of the items though are Lost Abbey items though except for a some Port bottled beers. It got a bit stuffy with no A/C so keep that in mind if you're thinking of coming on a hot day! read more

Port Brewing LLC owns the brand The Lost Abbey. There are two Yelp pages. They are the exact same business. The Lost Abbey is simply a brand for Port Brewing's Belgian style beers. Lost Abbey/Port Brewing's tasting is an open-air, very hot warehouse with one of their brewing systems and their barrel room. The tap selection is usually pretty extensive with virtually every Lost Abbey and Port Brewing beer available including seasonals and special editions. However, they almost never make brand new beers, so as a local, you won't find the tap list to be that dynamic. There is a vintage bottle list that rotates, and on certain days certain special release bottles are for sale for on-premise consumption only. There is usually a food truck on crowded days and you can eat inside, though table space is very limited. Usually it is super packed in here and can be overwhelming. Overall, I usually avoid this tasting room unless there is a special release where I've purchased bottles for pick-up. As a local watering hole, this would not be my recommendation due to its industrial park location, lack of AC, lack of table space, and lack of tap list variety. read more

Wow, what a great find! We were doing a brewery tasting day and this was stop 2 (and stop 3 technically since Lost Abbey is there too.) Stop1 was at Stone so needless to say, it was a welcome change from the snobs at Stone... This was definitely where we belonged. We must've stayed damn near 3 hours at least just chilling, sampling, and conversing with the bartender/fellow employees. If you ever make it over here on a Fri/Sat, sit in Kevin's section of the bar...he was absolutely outstanding. Super knowledgable, welcoming, friendly, and just a good dude. We proceeded to try every single beer they had on tap...and let me tell ya, that's NO EASY FEET yo. Each 4oz tasting was $1 which was a welcome change from Stone (which unless you take the lame tour you dont get the tasters at the end.) Anyway, he started us on the light stuff and we worked our way through the massive selection all the way until the end when we completed our Stone/Lost Abbey tour with their stouts. I really enjoyed their brown lager (avail in a bottle currently since they run out on tap so frickin' fast apparently.) I was the driver so i didn't taste EVERYTHING personally but everyone else in the group did and i got little sips here n there of the ones i was interested in...everything they have here is really awesome. Super good. In addition to the kind bartender, the other employees hanging out joined our group for some convo and it was so nice...they were cool, laid back, and knowledgable about their craft. It's so awesome to meet good people who just enhance your overall experience. Lastly, the food truck outside: pretty standard pubfare. We got the taquitos and some volcano nachoes. Wish the nachoes were bigger serving but oh well, we def gobbled it all up. Definitely hit the spot for a mid afternoon snack! Do yourself a favor when you're in SD, make this place a priority. Had the week off for Thanksgiving, so a friend and I decided to head down south for a day trip. We both love beer so we decided to hit up a couple of breweries. First stop was Lost Abbey/Port Brewing Company. Of course we were the only ones there since it was a Tuesday afternoon. Sadly I can't remember the guy's name who helped us, but he was super awesome. We were able to taste a lot of their beers from both Lost Abbey and Port Brewing...most of which were complementary! We were curious about the Inferno Ale, but they only offered it for purchase in bottles. The guy decided to pop open a bottle to share with us. How awesome is that?! Stopped by here real quick after visiting Stone on my birthday and was quite glad I did. Got a pint for both me and my girlfriend. I had a pint of Judgement Day, a quadruppel, while I got my girlfriend a pint of Witch's Wit. I would have stayed for more but had a bit of a drive back up to Long Beach. The Judgement Day was quite good, though like all of the Lost Abbey beers I feel like if I were to let a bottle sit for a few years they were be way better. The Witch's Wit was really tasty. I always enjoy a Belgian White whenever an American craft brewer decides to make one. The dudes at the counter were friendly and the tap room ambiance is just how I like it to be (kind of thrown together). I bought some glassware on the way out. read more

I want to love this place, and I want to love their beer, but for whatever reason I just can't seem to get into it. With so many amazing breweries in the area I never really feel like coming here. My friends all enjoy this place, but me I would rather be at Green Flash or AleSmith. I think one big issue here really is seating. We came here for the super bowl event with a bunch of friends. After walking all day we wanted to sit and enjoy some beers. We gathered around a long table and... no chairs. About 20 minutes into that we were all tired and cranky. Port & Abbey is some of the best beers in SD County. The tasting room is smaller than some of the breweries that have the production they do. Ide give 5 stars based on the quality more than anything else. They have food trucks quite often and are one of the key stops for the brewery tour busses. I was there when the Agave Maria came out and they had completely sold out :( I had to come back to LA to get a bottle. read more
