Genuinely the best Indian food I've ever had in my life. We just ordered a bunch of stuff, from…read moresamosas and butter chicken to kabab and broccoli salad. Absolutely nothing we didn't love! Service was also fantastic! I noticed they're super intentional about allergies and brought out an entire tablet for my friend to cross-reference with the menu.

I'm probably going to get some hate for this but I only thought our meal was ok…read more Which bummed me out because I've been dying to try this place for years! We started with some yummy cocktails and the okra fries which were delicious - if only okra always tasted this good. For mains, we shared the chicken tikka, black daal, paneer and garlic naan. Pretty standard Indian order. The chicken tikka was just too spicy and we weren't used to that so it went mainly eaten. My favorite was the black daal but again, it wasn't so amazing that I would go and have it again. Honestly the best dish we had was dessert - the basmati kheer is a perfect rice pudding with crème brûlée like topping. So good. Service was spotty, I constantly found myself trying to find our server or make eye contact with him. They were slammed on a Tuesday night (which I'm sure is the case every night) so that's probably just the way things are but it could've been better. Disappointed but willing to try again, also made me want to try some other Indian spots in London next.

Saravanaa Bhavan is a chain restaurant - but one that will make you forget all of your prejudices…read moreagainst chain restaurants. It is a Gujarti Vegetarian Indian restaurant but with other Indian vegetarian cuisines represented as well including Sri Lankan and Indian-Chinese. (If you have never had it - Indian Chinese totally rocks. It is not Indian, It is not Chinese, It is a bunch of fiercely original fusion dishes that put traditional Indian vegetarian ingredients into Szechuan or Cantonese style sauces.) The place is crowded - often with a line waiting out the door. The menu is huge. Everything our party had was outstanding. (Special thumbs up for the Paneer -Indian Cheese- with Chilis in the Indo-Chinese menu - and their Chapatis and Pooris (breads) which show up accompanying many dishes. In fact breads are generally a strong point here and they make many kinds.) The place is unbelievably cheap - which is good to know in London - where cheap and food too often means poisonous. One note for non-Londoners. This particular Saravanaa Bhavan is on Ealing Road near the tube station Wembley Central. That neighborhood is one of three neighborhoods - all on Ealing Road - that have vast numbers of excellent cheap Indian and Pakistani restaurants (including many many subtypes of both). The cluster at the North near the Wembley Central station is the largest with at least a dozen fine vegetarian restaurants to pick from. This part of town is not on the standard "visitor's" trip to London - but it ought to be.
