I had a pair of dress shoes in need of a new sole. I usually have my shoes repair at Clarence in Pleasant Ridge. However, the store is now closed. Shoe repair is a lost art and finding a good one is extremely difficult. I looked on yelp and found Dot's Fine Shoe Repair with good rating. So I took the shoes in for repair. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Initial encounter was pleasant. He gave me the option of replacing the entire sole or just do half sole reiterating the fact that if I do the full sole the shoe would be like new and last a long time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He sold me on it and I elected for the first option even though the repair cost was more than what the shoes are worth. I thought it was worth while because I was comfortable with the shoes and I do not want to break in a new pair of shoes. First disappointment came as I picked up the shoes. The stitches on the sole of the right shoe was done terribly and they looked jagged, and painted over with black paint. I complained and he took them to the back and did something to smooth it out. I should have not accept them but I needed them back. Keep in mind I wear these shoes only once a week to office hours. Fast forward 4 month (about 16 wears). while walking, I felt something flapping on my right foot. It turned out that the sole have separated from the shoes along the stitching line. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I brought them back to the shop and he falsely place blame that the shoe has been resoled in the past and there was not much material for him to stitch the new sole to the shoes and that's why it separated[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I told him he was the first and only person that have worked on the shoes. He offered to replace the entire bottom of the shoe which costs way to much for what the shoe is worth or he said he can glue the sole to the bottom of the shoe. However he states the shoes will not be able to be resoled in the future it he glue the shoe. I chose the latter. I picked up the shoes a week later. There was no charge for the work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fast forward 2 more months, same thing happed to the left shoe. I brought it back to the store again. He again denies responsibility as he took the shoe in for repair[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. When I went to pick up the shoes 2 weeks later, he stated that I owe him money for the repair. I was surprised by the statement as he did not tell me there is a charge or how much it would be before he took in the shoes for repair. He claim it was not his faulty workmanship and he can't not provide free services even though same issue happened to both shoes 2 months apart. (8 wears). I did not want to get into a confrontation over $20 and over a pair of shoes so I pay him and left. I wanted to raise awareness of this shoe repair shop to those who is looking to have their shoes repaired so no one will be put into the difficult and awkward situation I was in. They were for polka, so I specified that I needed thin, smooth leather soles. So nothing suede. Specifically, yes, but not a hard ask. When I had called to confirm, they said the shoes would be done in two weeks, for $55 before tax. Only after I had handed them over did the owner reveal that it would be at least a month. Not ideal, but I could look past that. A month passes, I call to ask if the shoes are done, and to confirm that he's doing everything correctly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Firstly I get connected to some rude woman who tells me to call back later and hangs up on me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and when I finally get should off the owner, he reveals that the shoes are nowhere close to being done! He alas says that he was planning on using suede, which is not the thin smooth leather I requested. He agrees to swap, a few more weeks go by, and the shoes are finally ready. I walk in and, I kid you not, the soles are at least a half inch thick. I say that this isn't what I specified, and he says it's my fault, since I didn't specify. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I remind him that I did specify, bury in person and over the phone, multiple times. He just says that's it's a communication error[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], then proceeds to charge me $75??? I said wow, that tax was a lot more than I expected, and he bumped it to $85, saying he "forgot to add the tax"! It turns out he was trying to charge me more because he mistakenly cut out the suede soles before I corrected him again, and wanted me to pay more. After that, I said I would go and get cash to pay him, and I left. He can keep those shoes or resell them, I don't care, and I honestly hope he goes out of business! read more

While on a trip (reason for time constraints), I stopped in to get my closed toe Birkenstock's resoled. The gentleman in the shop kindly greeted me, and said he could have them done in 3 days. I asked for a two day turnaround and I offered to pay extra. He told me it would be no problem, and at no extra cost. When I picked them up, I saw he actually went the extra mile by also shining up all of the leather, but also repairing the cork cushion where my stride pivots. This was my first time using Dot's, and I'm glad I found this place. A while ago, I purchased a pair of sandals with ankle straps. The strap was a little too tight around one of my ankles, so I couldn't/wouldn't wear them. I missed the timeframe to return, so I was stuck with them. I took them to Dot's to see if the strap could be adjusted, and the owner did not disappoint. Not only did he make the perfect adjustment to the straps, but he also provided me with an education on properly storing and caring for my shoes and purses. I happened to notice this place on a drive through St. Bernard, and it gave me hope for a pair a dress shoes that lost the sole off the heel. In a disposable world, getting shoes repaired almost seems colonial. I dropped my shoes off on a Tuesday and picked up on Friday. (I was in no hurry, probably could have gotten them sooner if needed) Came in on Friday and for $9.10 my shoes were repaired! Notes: closed on Sunday AND Monday. parking lot in the rear. keep your ticket when you drop things off! I needed the tips of my heels replaced for a wedding I am in, but I also had a pair of jeans that one of the belt loops came unstitched. He gladly took them in.
