Not sure why this place has only 3.5 stars! There is ample seating, good music, nice windows, and AWESOME coffee and food! I got a breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, and peanut butter on it. Just what the area needs! A delicious, funky and chill coffee joint. I have been craving a homemade biscuit sandwich and Dotties delivered. The biscuit was perfect, the bacon was crispy and thick, the cheese had huge flavor and the overall flavor profile was out of this world. My wife, who has celiac, got the naked bowl. She was soooo happy! Perfectly made over easy egg, beans, rice and delicious avocado slices on top. We also had 2 iced Matchas after we had the opportunity to bump into the amazing owner, who was drinking one. She was sweet, professional and helped us understand the allergy situation. We wanted breakfast on the run today and not many was open on our way to jiminey peak so went into this cute store on a quiet block...inside we found a cool coffee sign and counter and tables. To our surprise the latte was good and all our egg breakfast sandwiches either on whole wheat, homemade scallion biscuit or wrap were all excellent. The Wednesday night dinner was divine, with a cheap bottle of good wine and delicious dinner. The vibe here is friendly, cute and comfortable. Sit outside or in for the same feeling. Rare is it to find a place that celebrates seasonal cooking at this price. My friend and I had the two entree plate which comes with 3 sides for $22. We both had the blueberry BBQ (I had chicken, he had pork loin) and our sides were salads of the season and house made foccacia, all on a bed of fresh crispy greens picked that day. For dessert - a strawberry shortcake made as it should be: plump, ripe berries atop a home made biscuit with a dollop of freshly whipped cream (adorned with a sprig of basil and wildflower!). I came back the next day for lunch and started with a perfectly made latte (no star bucks here - these gals know how to work the espresso machine) and had the special salad of the day with locally sourced beets, greens and goat cheese. I keep trying to like Dottie's, it's a fun and artistic little place. Unfortunately every time I go in the staff are passively rude and apathetic. I'm a friendly and nonthreatening person, yet I feel like an idiot every time I go in here. The coffee itself is great, the food is great, I just don't appreciate my smiles and please & thank you's being returned with scowls and silence. We were looking for a breakfast spot. I found this on yelp and it looked perfect. Based on the menu, just my type of place. We walked in and I loved it. I loved the vibe. My boyfriend commented that nothing 'hip' like this ever existed when he lived there. We walk up and place our order. I order a cup of coffee (to note, they had no dark roast, so I got the medium roast, which was still 'robust' and good). And I order an egg biscuit sandwich. My boyfriend orders a cup of coffee and another type of sandwich (I believe it may have been the Climbing tree). I'm given a total of $19 and change. I was a bit surprised as it seemed a tad high, but ok. I would've loved to have received a receipt, but I didn't. I tip and we grab our number and sit down. Shortly, they call out that the coffee is ready. We walk up. There's only one cup of coffee as it was the last of the pot. I grab it and ask for the soy milk. I walk away and see that something isn't right. The soy milk isn't blending, but rather it's kinda curdling up. Meanwhile my boyfriend is up at the counter, just standing there, waiting for his coffee. He receives no coffee so he awkwardly sits back down. We begin to wonder if they got both of our coffees. Though at almost $20, I would hope so. He goes back up and asks about his coffee and they poured him one from the new batch. My coffee wasn't drinkable due to the odd consistency in it. When our food is brought out, my boyfriend says something about my coffee. I say I didn't know if the soy was bad. She says it must just be the acid in the coffee, which happens at the end of the pot. She pours me a fresh cup and taking her word it was the coffee, I pour the soy milk again.. and stop immediately as the same weird consistency happens again. So I give up and just fill the rest of it with creamer. Then upon looking at my sandwich I see it has bacon on it. I go up to the counter and tell them that I'm vegetarian and I did not order it with bacon. Per their menu, it is an egg/cheese sandwich. You have to pay a $1 more for bacon. I wasn't asked if I wanted to add bacon, but I'd bet that I paid for it. I don't recall being given an apology (and wasn't given a $1 back either.) I was brought out a new sandwich. The biscuit tasted like it was missing an important ingredient in the dough (was I given gluten free?) and it was all biscuit. (I don't recall seeing any scallions in it or any cheese) It was about 2 inches thick of biscuit and about 1/4 to maybe 1/3 inch of egg. It was very much a let down and I didn't enjoy it. Great find on our way home after six days of exploring the Adirondacks on the motorcycle..the breakfast biscuit was plentiful and the climbing tree farm breakfast sandwich with the red onion and sausage was a unexpected tasty combination. The americano's have four espresso shots which seemed like alot for a 16oz but it was just the right ratio of espresso to water...we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast we would recommend Dottie's to anyone passing through the area read more

I really wanted to be addicted to this place. I love supporting small businesses and always try to make an effort to do so. While their cappuccinos and wraps are exceptionally good (they always get the cappuccino foam just right!), I honestly find myself going to Starbucks instead, simply because the service at Dottie's is very inconsistent and they are cash only (which, honestly, is very inconvenient). Plus you would think that after being a regular customer, the people working there would be a little warmer and friendlier, but they are really quite indifferent. So instead I've switched to Starbucks and look forward to the warm customer service I receive there (and trust me, I really do avoid national chain stores like the plague). read more

Mixed messages. The place looks friendly, funky and laid back, but there's a chilly draft blowing through. As travelers passing through town we were looking for a local place for an early lunch. When we arrived at 11:30 all but one of the 5 (or 4?) tables had one person sitting with a laptop open in front of them but no food or drink whatsoever. While we ordered at the counter one guy slipped in and grabbed the remaining table by placing his laptop on it before going to the counter. The three of us had to sit in the "lounge," a group of sprung chairs and sofa that someone had set out by the curb many years ago. The coffee and sandwiches were delicious, I'll give them that, but the fact that they made no effort to ask the freeloaders to make way for paying customers made us feel as if we were outsiders looking in at the cool crowd. The girls at the counter were friendly to a point, but when a lady asked if they could close a window they just looked at her like she was a crank. Brrr. We chose this place because my gf is gluten intolerant and they have a good gluten free biscuit for their egg sandwich. I am now seeing an alternative place that does not feel free to talk trash about other businesses with customers around to hear it. I had the displeasure of hearing the two workers on Saturday 4/19 am shift trash one of my friends local business. Opinions are cool to have, however you should probably not choose to share yours while you are at work, for all to hear. I definitely won't be going back due to this extreme ignorance. Not being from Pittsfield, I did find the atmosphere a bit chaotic, staff members were removing chairs from occupied tables for the open mic set up, which was a little unwelcoming during my visit, but maybe my timing was wrong. Went for the first time today for lunch. Waited in long line and I wanted to order lunch. Got to the register and found they have lunch menus on a table by the door. Not at the register. A young child about 8 or so was working the register (bent my credit card as she slide it through machine - unsupervised by parent/adult) . Got menu ordered. Food came up no problem along with a drink. Sat at a vacant table ( many people in there where on phones and laptops). Half way through my lunch the child (at the direction of a man (probably her father) who was behind the counter came up to wipe my table, with a dirty cloth, even though I was still eating. Child proceeded to wipe it even though I wasn't finished. Other people were at their tables not eating looking at laptops, yet not having their time and lunch interrupted. What gives? Great service, delicious Bacon/Spinach/Tomato sandwich with locally sourced food (including the meats), laid back atmosphere with eclectic coffee shop aesthetics that is harder to find. Nothing not to like. The guy at the front counter went out of his way to help me. Parking was easy in a little slip of a lot between buildings. I love coffee shops like this. My husband and I were in town for a concert, and stayed overnight. We opted to check out Dottie's for breakfast. Located in an older renovated building, the ambiance was awesome! It appeared to be a favorite locals spot too. My order was pretty basic, fried eggs over easy(they didn't do poached) with sour dough wheat bread and bacon. No complaints there. The eggs were done perfectly. My husband ordered a latte, and a breakfast burrito. He's a world wide traveler, and said it was the best and most flavorful latte he had ever had, and the burrito was superb! When we're in the area again, we'll certainly stop in. It may even be worth a 3 hour drive when we get the hankering........... read more
