I am a sucker for tea lattés, so I got the matcha latté at the recommendation of a staff member (I was between that and the chai latté - the matcha was her personal favorite). I was not disappointed. After I ordered, the same staff member complimented my shoes. Awesome. The vibes in this place are great. It has good lighting from the large windows on the street. It is quiet and cozy. am not one to leave a review unless I'm EXTRA upset and that is why this review is being shared. We showed up just over 20 minutes before close.....and we were treated extremely poorly like us being there was an EXTREME inconvenience for them. We received dirty looks when we first walked in and the first thing anyone said to us was what time they closed. When we asked any questions, any responses from the staff was rude and with major attitude like we had completely ruined their day. We did not feel welcome AT ALL. I am not going to downplay everything about this place, because the food was delicious and the coffee tasted excellent and it all came out quite quickly, but the treatment from the all of the staff we encountered ruined the entire experience with their grumpy and rude service. It is very unlikely that we will return anytime soon. Everyone has a bad day and I've been a server before, so I understand when people come in before close that it can be frustrating but we gave them no reason to be rude to us because even after they treated us poorly from the start we were still very thankful and appreciative and out of their way in no time. read more

I was tempted to give this place one star but I vowed to uphold my journalistic integrity when doing reviews and therefore cannot justly give this place 1 star. I went here about 2 months ago. I've always liked going to cafes and regretted the fact that Pittsfield is lacking when it comes to urban cafes where you can relax after a day's work. I like the location and decor. The chairs are ok for sitting but not great for relaxing.. READ: nothing "plush." The drink prices are at or above Starbucks level and the quality is within one standard deviation of Starbucks (a good benchmark). I really wanted to like this place, but the EVIL SATANIC WORSHIPING OBJECT masquerading as a barista made it so that I cannot in good conscience return here any time soon. I tried to order the caramel mocciato (about $3) but instead of a sure thanks, I got some attitude laden diatribe wherein I was told ... 'well i don't know what you usually get at Starbucks, but this one is only 4 oz... because the Italian word .. blah blah blah. "OK!," I say, "I'll have the Mint Mocha!" I made sure to tell her I've never been to Starbucks in order to deflate her argument. Prior to this she continued her conversation with her friend for at least 45 seconds without even acknowledging my presence. this place is for the birds!! We drove an hour in a snowstorm this morning, excited about the prospect of finding a cool place that has Sunday brunch. The website was cute and the hours were posted stating that they were serving until 2pm today. We knew it was going to snow, but we felt adventurous, so off we went. When we arrived, there was a handwritten sign on the counter that said "kitchen is closed on Sundays". Went here for the first time today. Two absolutely rude women working the register at the counter. The woman who took my order acted like I was asking her construct a skyscraper. One of the wonderful staff members handed me my food and simply stated "here". I ordered a bagel and cream cheese. The bagel was dripping in three pounds of liquefied hummus like cream cheese when I took it out of the bag. I'm originally from Pittsfield. I grew up here and I have more roots here than these two young hipster wanna be hippie employees. I currently live in downtown Philadelphia that has hundreds of coffee shops. Katie is a wow asset to this place. I'm sure you know how mornings are, y'know, the before coffee interactions? Well, there was a misunderstanding about whether an americano was hot or iced. The guest would have been happy if the espresso was poured over ice, but Katie said it'll ruin the taste of the espresso & quickly made her a fresh drink. Great Lattes, local pastries... I practically lived here while doing my internship for college years ago. Dottie's was a refreshing and welcome find for myself and twelve of my friends following a weekend camping at Pittsfield State Park. With only 5 minutes notice, the owner threw together a table for us, and had the situation in command to serve us as fast and efficient as possible. The chocolate croissant that my husband and I split was warm and flaky, right out of the oven. My friends and I played with the board games and the piano while waiting for our food, which was well worth it. I had the Berkshire Breakfast sandwich which seemed like just regular eggs on toast (and small) but it was so flavorful and surprisingly filling that I was smitten. My husband had the Pig Slap Pork Sandwich and I think he almost left me for it. Don't go here expecting huge tables for big groups, but I love a place that accommodates and is totally cool about it. Went here for breakfast for our one morning in Pittsfield. I liked the creative breakfast offerings of their menu, so I wanted to to give this place a shot. Wife ordered a plate of 2 eggs, bacon, and oat toast. I wanted to ordered a breakfast bowl with egg whites, but they won't do egg whites. Since I don't care for whole eggs, I tried the vegan breakfast bowl with tempeh, avocado, and pickled red onions over rice and beans. We also ordered an iced coffee and a soy cappuccino. Wife loved her breakfast platter. The eggs and bacon were perfectly cooked, and the oat bread was rich. The vegan breakfast bowl was good, not great, but it is good that they have a vegan option. We came on the "build a gingerbread house" event, and that was a blast. After just moving to Pittsfield, we've found a gem on North Street. We've brought friends who have found us out here in the Berkshires, and we hope upon many happy returns. One thing - maybe stay open late one or two nights per week? Came in here with five friends as we were stopping in town after camping. Good vibe, good coffee, good food. Live jazz on a Sunday morning was a plus. Cold brew was very strong. Having never been in to Dottie's before, I don't have any issues that it "ain't what it used to be". I found the decor very interesting and well done. I would never have guessed from the outside or the name, that it would be so unique. I guess I was expecting the 40's and instead it was more like the Renaissance period. Very nice! And couches if you like them, tables if you don't. The drinks were good, but I am not a major coffee snob so I might have missed some details. I really appreciate it that they didn't charge extra for soy milk as that can really add on to a price.. The bathrooms were clean, the barista's were friendly. There is a great table in the front of the shop that puts you out right on the street. Great place for people watching if that is what you like to do. I plan on going back :) Update on my visits. I do still go to Dotties, some of staff is super friendly and others are a bit frosty. I still like them better than anywhere else in Pittsfield, there aren't a lot of choices here. I wish that the prices were a bit more clear, maybe if they offered me the receipt I would be happier. I also wish that they would put out the milk where I mix my coffee. They like to keep it in the fridge so sometimes you have to ask, or if you put in your sugar first and go back for milk it is put away.
