Bright and friendly coffeehouse/cafe that recently opened near the corner of Sheridan and Park-- and it opens at 6 am! They serve Bear Lake coffee, treats from Sweet Mandy Bs, Dip and Sip donuts, along with specialty drinks and vegan options. The owner, David, said that the croissants are made with ingredients from France. He gave me a sample of a warmed spinach and feta croissant that was to die for! I purchased an assortment of baked goods -- the warmed croissant was very flaky and buttery -- I signed up for the Rewards because I'm sure I'll be back! I've never seen so many dairy alternatives! They had pistachio milk, almond milk, oat milk, macadamia milk, even CORN MILK! I'm sure they had more. I'd never heard of corn milk before and they were nice to give us a sample to try it. The service was fantastic actually. My husband and I both had the seasonal red hot brown sugar latte except I had mine with oat milk and he tried corn milk. The barista told us several times that they would make us a new drink if we didn't like ours, but luckily we did! The interior is spacious and I really liked the seating along the windows. This is a great addition to downtown HP! It's an airy, well lit, comfortable space, where you are not rushed and can sit and enjoy your coffee (or litany of pastries). My Wicked-themed coffee drink was delicious, served in an oversized mug, not overwhelming in vanilla flavor but more subtle. My friend liked her coffee as well, though I forgot what she ordered! There is a wonderful variety of food as well, including vegan and gluten free desserts. Everything here is very clean and well organized, like the table of garnishes (not sure what to call it - milk, stirrers, and such). This is my first time visiting this cute coffee shop. They were very friendly. It wasn't very busy so it was nice and quiet. It was a great environment to work from or meet up with someone. They had an array of pastries ranging from vegan to sugar free. It looks like they also had sandwiches and chips. I ordered a white hot chocolate which is so yummy. I also got some of my favorite muffins from my Holcomb hollow which they sell. All in all I will surely be back. read more

A new coffee place in Highland Park just north of Norton's on Sheridan Road. This is a cute place with an equally friendly staff. The owner, named David, happily walks around, bussing tables and chatting up guests, most of whom he knows by name, face, or has become instantly your friend. I met friends there last Sunday and met David and he was quick to shake my hand, chat me up for a few moments, and then picked up plates and mugs and chatted up other guests. He arrived that morning after his wife and he had a box of fresh donuts ready to sell and serve to patrons like me who love sugary pastries in the morning. I ordered an iced mocha latte with extra chocolate as I'm not a coffee drinker (or like coffee for that matter) and prefer a sweeter flavor, but want the caffeine. I also ordered a sesame bagel (toasted) with butter on the side. I also got their decadent peanut butter and chocolate rice krispy treat. The drink was a perfect blend of coffee and extra chocolate and not too much ice. They had oatmilk and that rounded out my drink. The sesame bagel was nicely toasted and was huge (most likely from a local bagel place, maybe Once Upon a Bagel), and the rice krispy treat was thick, rich, and decadent. It's a warm design with several tables and a winding window bench along the large front windows overlooking Sheridan Road in downtown Highland Park. They also have some outdoor tables and chairs with umbrellas. It's a pretty area and a great place to come meet up with friends, stop for a coffee while biking, or grab a nice treat during your work day. They've been open barely four weeks and already there are lines out the door. My opinion: go early to beat the rush. read more

This place is busy -- got to be a reason for that ! But my experiences have been mixed. Owner will talk to you if he feels like it and moves around a lot (which is what an owner should do), one day very welcoming next day ignores ! Coffee always medium heat to mild. Scones always stale (unless I just was there on the last day of freshness). Server offered to warm the item and I got it cold and rock hard. We loved the pumpkin cream cheese muffin - a rival for Starbucks' famous version, if you're familiar with it. The cafe boasts plenty of seating, and people have already taken advantage of the cozy space, sitting around working on school projects or catching up on work emails over the weekends. Oh my gosh- so delish! They stock really yummy pastries and snacks. There are a lot of gluten free and dairy free options that are very very delicious. Coffee is great too. Here's what you need to know: Loved Double cup - the quality of the sourcing is great, from the Bear Lake Coffee co coffee to the French imported self bake croissants (delicious), and the baked goods from Sweet Mandy Bs and other artisanal bakeries. The Kenya pour over blend was outstanding. I had it over ice and it was perfect for a humid warm day. Kids loved their mocha too. Terrific ambiance and super friendly team at the counter. OK, so this is a 5-star coffee shop - I rotate around all the local options trying to support local small businesses when I can, and this is consistently my favorite (Tala being right up there too, and Hometown too if they had stronger coffee). DC has excellent coffee (and options), fantastic selection of pastries from different sources, and a welcoming environment (including the staff who have uniformly been well trained and look/act like they want to be there). And there's a rewards program. Always nice to see an owner on site too. So why four stars here? I can't go here if I'm in a hurry. It's better than right after launch, but I've sometimes (recently) been unable to get out in under 15 mins even at off-peak times. Also there is regularly some level of sticker shock - probably doesn't affect too many of the local clientele, and I don't think it's the coffee so much as the pastries. Get what you pay for i guess. But, finally, I've encountered dogs in here almost every visit which i am generally ok with and may be allowed by the city (?? unusual if so) but twice now I've encountered dogs with their feet up on the counter. No reaction from owner or staff. Anyway, now they know what i think it takes to get five stars! And regardless, DC is great - welcome to HP. read more

Everything was fine other than the cost. I felt like a coffee and thought I'd try a local shop rather than a Starbucks. Sadly, the cost at Double Cup for my 16 oz oat milk latte was $8.99....$3.00 more than the exact same drink at Starbucks and the other local coffeeshop nearby. I try to support local businesses, but charging 50% for the same drink is both ridiculous and arrogant. I really wanted to love this place but was very disappointed. read more
