This is attached to a grocery store, previously a standalone coffee shop before they moved. The menu is very succinct, some less common types of coffee flavors. I got a caramel latte because I wasn't feeling too adventurous, and it was pretty good but A bit on the pricey side for what it is. If you like unique coffee flavors this is probably for you, but if you want just standard stuff then maybe look at cheaper places for similar quality. read more

Stopped into Newport Coffee House while in the area. I got a bit lost as there was no markings from the exterior on where the coffee shop was located. It took me a bit to realize it was attached to the adjacent grocery store and where I needed to park to enter. The inside had a lot of unused space with seating along the windows and overlooking the grocery store entry. Their menu offered some unique specialty lattes and staff was good about making recommendations. I ordered a 12oz hot Date Cardamom latte and my fiancé a 12oz hot Chai Tea latte. I wasn't the biggest fan of my coffee drink. While the coffee was strong, I didn't get much flavor nor sweetness. The Chai Tea had more flavor notes come through. Pricing was fair and they also sold beans and some pastries. Overall, it was good but not my cup of joe to revisit. read more

Cool hipster place for getting coffee in Bannockburn. It's not quite the same college atmosphere as the original Evanston location, but it's still good for reading, studying, or pretending to do something. Newport has coffee of course, but there's also lots of greats pastries and treats. Has some of these that are non dairy. The inside isn't too loud like some coffee places. Breakfast and in the morning are the busiest times here. It's of course when people most want to get coffee, but even then there's usually enough tables available inside. There's quite a few of the smaller tables plus some of the larger ones good for groups and meetings. Clean friendly atmosphere. Light colors all over the place such as white. As for the coffee, it's good stuff as far as from what I've had. It's about $4 for a latte. There's several non dairy milks available such as oat. Also there's some good things such as muffins and pastries to eat. It's about $3 for cookies and treats. Has a few vegan ones to get. Last time I got a Vegan Banana Oat Bar and a Vegan Scone, and these were like the real things. Good stuff in the scone with lots of berries and fruit. There was blackberries, blueberries, coconut, cranberries, and raisins. Good place for getting coffee. It's also a place to munch on some healthier oat bars and such. Up until the last few years, I wasn't a very regular coffee drinker, due to being very sensitive to caffeine and not fond of dairy. However, my wife lives on coffee, so I slowly became a more regular consumer. Places like Newport are what helped me enjoy coffee more and more. Newport Coffee House makes such a good Americano that's not too strong, not too bitter, not too sour, not too much of anything - just good! They have the usual non-dairy options, which I appreciate very much. Their baristas seem to really know their stuff, and are as fast as you can be when pulling espresso shots and mixing stuff. Prices are reasonable, and the seating area is pleasant. The shopping center is very large, and has tons of parking, so - when we're in the area - Newport is a great stop when we need some coffee. read more

Updated November 2023 last visit. Disappointing to leave Newport after so many wonderful beans over the years. Lately the Bannockburn seems to be having problems. The tile flooring is broken and my favorite beans haven't bern available for a while. Broken roaster was mentioned. Waiting for parts? IDK. It deserves another chance or two & I will go back in 2024. But. In the meantime Whole Foods Early Bird Blend beans are pretty much freshly roasted every week. The result is that good old fashioned COFFEE FLAVOR. This is my first time here at this location. I've been to the one in Evanston and didn't realize they had another location farther north. My brother in law wanted the kossa geshe pour over and my sister wanted the Coco Brew. I also grabbed one as well because in my experience, their cold brews are very tasty and smooth. Whatever beauty here before and the latest owners doing a great job of expanding the business and added their Evanston store. Their Baker in Evanston has been making more than a baker's dozen of a variety of different pastries anything from cookies to cheddar biscuits to scones brownie the gluten free if you want it and they got it, All baked on location in Evanston and shipped to the Bannockburn store as needed. Generally speaking, my only complaint here so far is one of a general business principle of coffee shops in particular. They will tend to not to make fresh coffee if too close to closing time, this is obviously to eliminate waste. I've noticed however I've noticed that here at Newport and other coffee shops including Starbucks, when near closing time if they have four or five minutes before closing or a little more, they will offer a pour over option, most likely at the large coffee price but of course in a small to go cup, again understandable from a profit point but also from a disappointment point to the customer no drip coffee, but now at least they have a choice of being, when this is offered. The problem I see, are you in occasionally at Newport, which is unfortunate in as far as this review goes. The problem is, if you're running on a drip coffee then you've got four or more minutes before closing, I don't think turning away customers have checked and forming them they have no drip coffee too close to closing, and not offer the poor over option I think is a mistake. First I think the first go to when close to closing but having dumped the remaining drip, always have at least one espresso station open, offer that or a power over. Offering the the espresso first is a benefit to the employee as not as much faster than the four to five minute pour over. The vast majority of customers would not I believe be too persnickety over this. Again perhaps a slightly discounted rate I'm just offering this as a suggestion, I haven't yet until very recently seen even Newport turn away a customer just because they didn't have and not offer either a pour over or a quick espresso shot. The store is still officially open, in this instance in this scenario, and the store still makes money on that last pore over. Now they have two stores they do have a set it and forget it machine that can pour three pour over at a time, and their store does tend to be busier just because of its location right up until closing So I'm not as familiar with how they would handle the last minute coffee request or something walking in 5 minutes to close. Big city living I think a lot of people just get used to the fact that oh they're closing in 5 minutes let's go down the street. Yes it's a loss to sale, but it's the big city I don't think that should necessarily carry over into the small town of Bannockburn. And really I mentioned before that there would be some waste of dumping out the final urn of coffee, it's most likely not what's going on, more likely is as an earn empties depending on how much time is left in the last half hour is it worth it to make a full pot or a half a pot based on previous customer traffic? Probably not. There could be too much waste, consider how many cups per ern you can earn, and you have your formula. But can that waste be added to a cold brew, no because cold brew isn't just hot coffee put in a refrigerator overnight. In need of a solution or a solution in need of a problem? read more

The owner is absolutely a perfectionist to the nth degree but also very, very friendly. He was welcoming and greeted the folks he knew by name. He was not thrilled with how the barista made my coffee and had him remake it (I was fine with it). The finished product was an awesomely beautiful and delicious oat milk cappuccino. We came here frequently, at the insistence of my husband, when it was previously owned by someone else; I hadn't cared for it much. Now the coffee is better, new dishes are a clean white with their logo in black, and the display cases of eats are nicer. As you can see from my 5 star review, I have no complaints. If I were to make a suggestion, not that anyone asked me, I'd add a little warmth to the decor- it's very stark. Another plus is the plentiful parking. read more

Small places that roaster their own coffee beans are getting squeezed during the pandemic and it's really hard for people to realize that the value of this is so much better than like a Dunkin' Donuts or a Starbucks. Newport Coffe house brings a flavor that she's most places do not have . They roast their beans on site. The barista pays attention to detail and is like an artist. She happily listens to how you want your cappuccino or latte and goes out of her way to make it perfect! The blueberry muffins are moist and tasty. There's WiFi and indoor and outdoor seating at social distancing space. The ceramic cups are Covid safe. It's great to have a ceramic cup to enjoy the delicious blend of flavors. Surprisingly good coffee for a suburban strip mall coffee house, Newport Coffee roasts its own beans by hand in small batches (there's a roaster in the shop). A large latte ($3.72) was smooth and strong, not overroasted or bitter. They carry scones, bagels, muffins, cookies and various baked goods from local bakeries. * Cinnamon scone: I like how it didn't have nuts and wasn't too sweet, it was a little dry but not too dry * Bagel: very dense and somewhat small It's a comfortable spot. They have free wi-fi, live music events, and a few computer terminals. What a tucked away little hidden gem! They roasted coffee all day so the place smelt like toasted marshmallows and had an ongoing homey vibe. People lovingly asked to share tables and the crowd is definitely not all millennial but it's sweeter that way. During my time here I saw teenagers on dates, little old ladies knitting, architects designing housing on their computers, and a multitude of people there speaking different languages in different accents! Nice little coffee shop tucked into the corner of a strip mall. We're most often here on Super Car Saturdays when the parking lot is overrun with amazing cars and crowds of people. They do a nice job keeping up with the brisk business, and I've been pleased with my iced coffees or Americanos. The set up is a bit weird, as you order at the counter farthest from the door, but that's clearly not a deal breaker for me. With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are... with out any further ado let's dive right in to my unbiased review of New Port Coffee First I will say, as this place has many positive review mine will be no different. As I begin I'm trying not to find what's good about Newport, but what's bad. I want to find something to stop me from giving them a 5 star, because that would mean they are perfect, or close to it! Lets see if by the end of this review they earn the 5 of 5 or get bumped down to 4 of 5. Location & Ambiance: The shop is tucked away in Bannockburn Illinois in a tiny strip mall. I have actually lived within 5 miles of their shop for 6 years now and never heard of it, and due to their location I have actually driven by and never seen it! Upon my first visit the nice staff said, "Its Bannockburn's best kept secret". Which I can't disagree with, because Newport Coffee is one of the best if not the best places Coffee Shop I have been in ever! The inside is very relaxing and allows for you to hang out with a buddy and get a morning cup of coffee, get work done, or even use there free Wi-Fi (Which for me didn't seem to work). The location & Ambiance are definitely a 5 of 5 for me! Coffee: Well it is a coffee shop, so lets talk about the quality of my cup of coffee! First, take a look at the pictures I posted! They coffee looks great, they have fresh local beans, the espresso drinks are made by hand, and the milk is not burnt! Trust me if you want an amazing cup of coffee you NEED to be taking a drive over to Newport! (I personally enjoyed a skim latte, and a plain Espresso Con Panna both was amazing!) Food: There are a lot of options for you if you want a little breakfast with your cup of coffee. They have a wide selection of muffins, breads, cookies, bagels, a few oatmeal's, and bananas! I do recommend getting any pastry warmed up! If you want to see exactly what they have check out the picture I posted with there bakery selection! Staff: The staff was nice, and left me satisfied! They were very helpful and knew exactly the ins and outs of each type of coffee. Additionally, upon warming up my raisin muffin, last time I came in, they burnt the top side of it a little and the staff was very apologetic. They didn't attempt to avoid the issue, and I'm sure if I asked they would have made me a new one entirely! Overall, I would definitely give Newport Coffee a try! They have quality all around, and I will be giving them a 5 of 5 stars! As this is my first 5 of 5 star rating on Yelp, I cant recommend this place enough! Hubby and I happened to be in the area, and yelp assisted us to find the nearest coffee shop. It's located in a strip mall where Panera and Eggsperience are. The young man who served us had a great vibe and was quick to get our orders in. I checked in with my yelp app and received a 10% discount. We ordered a 12oz. regular coffee, a 12oz. latte, a muffin, and an oatmeal Resin cookie. All of them came to $9.59. I didn't think it was bad at all. Everything tasted like what it should. It was a nice, cozy place. There were many people who work or do business nearby patronizing here. I'm always a big fan of supporting local businesses. We ventured to Newport Coffee House specifically because we wanted to try a Boston latte. We had no idea what it was and had never seen it on any other coffeehouse menu. Apparently it's espresso and your choice of milk like a regular latte, but with some honey added. So if you like your coffee sweet, I'd recommend it. You can definitely taste the honey throughout. My husband wasn't sure the Boston latte was for him so he ordered a Brazilian coffee and it was actually amazing. It was complex and interesting and I can honestly say I've never had another coffee like it. This place roasts their own beans by the way and they're available for sale too. Based on the Brazilian one we tried, they're probably all amazing. I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the dull decor and total lack of ambiance. But you won't be thinking about that at all once you take a sip of your coffee (or Boston latte, if you're so inclined :-)) read more

By a whisker, this reaches four stars. There are lots of fans and I understand why. The cafe is a comfortable shoe, somewhere you can relax and feel far from day to day hectic times. Located off Waukegan road, this is one of my favorite coffee shops in the area. It's usually busy with people during the day, throughout the day. People reading and some are on laptops, reminds me of Portland where I had the constant question of, "am I the only person who works?" You will notice the smell the beans roasting. I believe this is their only location and don't know if they sell them anywhere else. I like the black coffee here, it's smoother than a lot but I'm not the best critique of coffee. I can tell you that it is fresh. Parking is plentiful and it is very relaxed. The staff here is really friendly and always look like they are having fun. Prices are fair and pretty comparable to what Starbucks and other coffee shops are. I like this place and would encourage you to check it out and support small businesses. read more

Since the ownership has changed hands this place has drastically gotten worse! First they made the whole place feel very sterile and not at all welcoming. And then there is the owners themselves. Lotta is very nice and welcoming! But her husband is the exact opposite! Everytime I've been in he is rude and very sexist. I can't believe the way he treats employees either. It's no shock why all the regulars left here. I will not be surprised if soon the ownership changes again, but I won't be back until it does! read more
