We decided it was time to get some training for our 1 1/2 year old pittie mix. Every since I got pregnant, he's been more reactive and protective on our walks. Can't be pulling a 7 month pregnant lady around! We did the 2 week on-leash program...drop off in the morning pick up in the afternoon. They give you a decent window of time in the AM and PM to drop off and pick up your pup so it's convenient for everyone. He was a little nervous on his first day but quickly warmed up to his trainer, Dakota. At the end of each week, you go in and are given a lesson going over what your dog has learned. Sit, lay, heel and place are just a few of the commands he learned. Our walks are MUCH calmer and we work on what he learned often. The staff is awesome, the place is clean and all in all I think it was worth the time and $ spent. They also have other programs depending what you're looking for. read more

I have always been impressed with Rich and his Staff; they are dedicated, knowledgeable and give back to the community by supporting non-profit org training service dogs. Sadly, our dog Remy(white shepherd mix pictured with Rich and my wife) died last year from a sudden heart attack. Rich was so understanding and helpful in helping us find a Service Dog candidate that would meet my needs Better; we rescued a Newfoundland mix. I'm posting pictures from video as she's being trained to assist going up & down stairs. It's my opinion that even if you just try basic obedience, a trained owner and dog adds to the wonderful experience of canine ownership! Double H has trained two dogs for me and I have been very pleased! Trainer Zach trained Ruby Doo, a four month old Shepherd, Lab mix, several years ago and she still follows commands very well. Trainer Dakota certainly had his hands full when we brought Hoss, who's a 16 month old American Pitbull and full of energy. Upon graduation, Hoss now knows and follows commands well! EDIT: I didn't have a great experience at first. The service is expensive and I expected a lot of results. The owner addressed all of our concerns with my wife and I think we had a good fix put in place. My initial review was emotionally charged, but I don't think it was terribly inaccurate so I'll leave that as a testament to the business willing to work with a client to make things right. I think an upgraded 4 star is warranted because they delivered, but there wasn't great the first time. Below is my initial review that was addressed by the owner in detail. It's good to see that the owner takes pride in the business and was wanting to make everything right. I'm satisfied now. After three weeks my dogs have no change in behavior. They don't respond to any commands they "learned" and the only thing I got out of it was boarding at 2x the cost of a high end kennel. Actually one dog is terrified of commands and will lay down and the other one of them responds to "sit" after about 5 tries. I taught them sit as puppies in an hour with a bag of popcorn. They learned to fear the trainer, but no discipline or traits when they came home. The most concerning is that they starved one of my dogs and didn't have the common sense to notice he was being underfed. Yes, we did provide measured food in advance, but we also didn't provide any treats or supplemental diet. Regardless, how do you not notice a perfectly healthy, normal weight male French Bulldog at 25-26 lbs being under 22lbs after 3 weeks? He lost over 10% of his body weight and was VERY noticeably underweight. How do you not have the capacity to notice this and call the owner to talk about food intake? Another 2 weeks and he would have probably been hospitalized. I could have achieved the same results with a bag of popcorn and training collar (which one dog doesn't respond to) on my own and saved $2,500 The only upside is that they stayed an extra week at no cost because results weren't achieved. The response to that would still be they should have recognized their own limitations and said they didn't have the skill to effectively train certain breeds after a certain age. read more

So far so awesome! I took my beagle in for the full day, 2 week classes. After just a day and a half I had to pick him up because there was a small outbreak of kennel cough. Unfortunately, he ended up with it, as well. But kudos to Double H for foregoing all revenue by cancelling all classes for the week and letting everyone know, as soon as possible. When I picked him up after just 1.5 days of training, they'd given him a new collar and given me some advice on how to use it. It took my dog almost two weeks to get over his illness, but Zach stayed in touch with me throughout. As soon as he was well, he was back into classes. Did I mention that I have a beagle? If you have a hound, and especially a beagle, you know...These are the most stubborn dogs on Earth. Their nose is all that matters to them at any given time. And that includes bad leash pulling. They're also known to be very loveable and affable. So lunging was also a problem...everyone wants to pet him, and he wants to be petted. So for the first couple of days of classes I didn't see a whole lot of changes. Granted, he came home tired and slept the whole evening and night away. That's understandable. Then I had my first 1:1 with Zach and he showed me all they'd been working on, and had me practice it right there in front of 20-30 other dogs. And my dog did almost perfect. That very night I started to practice those commands with him on our walks. Day by day I saw my dog able to follow more and more of these critical commands that made not only working from home easier, but walks more enjoyable...and indeed his overall personality more pleasant. Everyday I walk him through the high stress, high distraction streets of the Highlands, and always find a random spot to make him sit, wait, lay down, drop his leash, make him come here to me, and sit. It's amazing the focus that he now has on my words. And he even seems to be proud when I'm proud of him for accomplishing it. And when I sit at the desk working all day, instead of him laying his head on my lap and pushing me away from the desk for beagle kisses, he's able to place on his bed behind me and wait until I'm able to give him more attention. I can now even take him after classes to a crowded part of Waterfront Park or Tyler Park as a reward and he pays attention to ME instead of everyone and everything else going on. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff are. In a 2-week session you might get just the 1-1:1 each week. But every morning that you drop your dog off, if you tell them what you worked on and had problems with, they spend time to focus on it that day. And every day when you pick them up, they'll tell you what they did well with and what you need to work on them with, that evening, and how. I never once walked in and saw an employee that didn't immediately know my dog's name, or who I was there to pick up, and didn't immediately have some kind of advice or recommendation that was specific to how he was doing in his training. I haven't yet scheduled my follow-up (which comes as part of the 2-week all day plan), but I'm already super impressed with my dog's ability to follow some great commands to make working from home, and constant walks, more fun and enjoyable. And if they can do that with a BEAGLE, trust me, they can do that with any dog. read more

Agreed to two weeks of board and train back in December. I had a 3 yo German Shepherd that showed some results from the training, but not $1k worth. I will first of all day she did improve at walking alongside me and listening to the "place" command but that's about it. My dog contracted kennel cough from the facility the first week, which cost me even more money in vet bills. Fast track to January when my dog is "graduated" but doesn't know the difference between sit and lay down... I try to text my trainer about my follow up appointment in which i paid for to address issues and don't hear back from them for like two weeks because they were on vacation. By this time me and the lady got covid and had to quarantine leading us to say screw it. Came to conclusion i'd just count my loses on this one but if i didn't split the cost of training with my girlfriend I would seriously be after a refund or how to make this right.. FYI if you decide to do the day train I got the vibes that they treat your dog like a kid in a daycare instead of a student at a learning institution. I didn't feel the one-on-one sessions were fulfilling as they were 5 minutes of walking around being taught how to use a pinch collar I could've ordered off Amazon. read more

I have a 7 month old German Shepard/Husky mix. When I dropped him off to start his 3 weeks of training, he was wild and very hard to handle, I was concerned if i would ever be able to walk him without him pulling me behind him and jumping at dogs and people as we walk. Dakota was his trainer and within the first week he was much calmer and already showing the sweet personality that was waiting to come out. Dakota is a firm trainer and he knows what he is doing with these dogs, so grateful that we got to work with him. Everyone at the facility is very professional and caring. The crew here is excellent. Our dog goes here for daycare. They love the dogs and my Baxter is always excited to go. He comes home exhausted from playing, which is great. We actually switched to them from another doggie day care because of the quality of their staff. I've also seen them training other dogs when I stop by. Took our German Shepherd pup here for training. I believe she did 3 weeks training in total, and has made quite a bit of progress. Happy we can take her for walks at the park & take her to the pet store with us now, without her barking at anyone, or pulling constantly...we are still going over what she has learned with her regularly, so it really sticks. Rich was great to work with- an awesome trainer and person! Very down to earth. We did the 6 one on one sessions with our labradoodle when he was about 16wks. Definitely money well spent! Ginny is my 2 1/2yr old "hand me down" dog from my daughter, given to me when she couldn't take her two untrained dogs any longer. We love Ginny but she so needed to be trained. Out of the blue I picked this place. We are now one week in and I'm blown away with what they -mainly Jennifer- have done. These folks know their business and they speak dog! They are good and compassionate. No cruelty- just firmness works fine. Ginny is in the 2 week all day program. I take her in the morning and pick her up by 6:00. After their working just 5 days with her and 1 hour with us she now sits or lies down on command as well as heels or stays - for up to 2 hours in place! - all this with people moving and talking and up to 20 dogs obeying and disobeying. That's why I chose this program over private lessons. Ginny is VERY social and always interested if another dog or person is around when we're out. If she can obey under those conditions she will truly be well trained! I recommend Double H and the 2 week in-house program. read more

Hank my dog and I worked with Rich for 6 one hour sessions. Rich taught me how to effectively work with Hank and the results are great. Hank has always been a very friendly dog, but walking on a leash was a nightmare. Not anymore, I can take him anywhere and he walks by my side. He can have the distraction of other dogs or people and he knows to sit until I release him. I have taken control and now have the skills to continue to work with Hank and enjoy him. Walked by this afternoon and saw what I assumed were two men in the driveway with their dogs. One very happy and enthusiastic beagle took off in my direction and the owner stomped on the leash rather abruptly to stop it. There was no way the owner did not know that the the combination of the leash and choke collar would inflict pain and injury on the dog, who let out a pretty ear piercing yelp. I was pretty pissed and horrified when I thought it was just two jerks who shouldn't even be allowed to own pets. I found it much more disconcerting, however, to discover, about 10 feet later, that this was a method (apparently known as "yank and stomp") being used at an obedience school. I understand that there is an old school method of 'breaking' animals in order to force compliance and domestication, but this training school would not be the best fit for any pet owner who prefers cruelty free training methods like positive or differential reinforcement. It is very possible to be your dog's pack leader without resorting to the methods I saw demonstrated here. read more

Our baby Sable just spent a week at Double H Canine Board and Train and I couldn't have asked for a better experience for her and us! Rich was fantastic to work with and Sable learned so much in the time she was there. When we returned, she was happy to see us but a little sad to leave her home away from home.
