When we recently cared for our beloved geriatric dog, Katie was there to offer advice and encouragement. When our dog died, Katie mourned with us. We now have a rescue dog to go along with our anxious doodle. Katie has helped us acclimate our new dog to our home and to day out, while continuing to patiently put up with the doodle she has cared for since he was 6 months old. After being disappointed with several area boarding facilities, we finally found Almost Home. We have been extremely satisfied with their services, and our pet literally runs to them when we drop him off! There was paperwork and required veterinarian records that had to be arranged before confirming our dog's first stay, and their requirements are stringent (I'm personally okay with this this as it means safety for my pet when he stays there). If you have two dogs that are comfortable being boarded in the same kennel, there is a discount for the second dog. You can bring your dog's own blankets or bedding, or use what is provided. You are required to bring your dog's food and instruct them regarding their feeding schedule. They take your dog out several times a day and let it off leash to play in their secure area. They are open 7: 30 AM til 6:00 PM weekdays, and are closed on Sat and Sun. The do have two pickup times (9AM and 5 PM) on weekends for an extra fee of $15. If interested, they also provide doggy daycare, grooming, and dog training. are very popular and fill up quickly during peak vacation season and on holidays. Book early! read more

We found this place a few years ago via the recommendation of a local veterinary assistant and have not been disappointed. We board our 'wild child' Shorkie here when we go out of town on vacation and get good conduct reports when we return to retrieve him. We initially dealt with Almost Home via the net and sent all Jax's vet records/vaccinations. They responded within a day and we set up his account. This place is very popular so book early. They will even administer pet meds if needed. All I had to provide was his food and favorite blankie. They have S/SU drop off and pick up at set hours (9AM; 5 PM) as well. read more

Look no further for a place to board a feline friend while you're out of town. Whether it's a work obligation or a vacation that has you away, "Almost Home" will be a vacation for your cat that s/he will be sure to love. When I needed to be out of town for a week this month, I needed a place to leave my cat since I couldn't find a sitter. I was a "first time mom" as far as boarding my cat; in more than 5 years I had always had a reliable sitter and was nervous about leaving him in a cattery for a week. I found "Almost Home" thanks to a fellow yelper and could not be more happy with the experience of boarding my cat there. Securing a place was easy, and when I dropped him off, I was able to go back and see the cattery. Each cat has a 2-level cat condo, and mine had a view on the garden (the better to observe all the birds flying by!). Throughout the week the staff updated me with text pictures of my cat. He was also allowed out of his condo several times during the day to play in the cattery. When I picked him up at the end of the week, he was a pretty happy guy, and I got the feeling it was as much to see me again as it was to have spent a week at "Almost Home." I have used Almost Home boarding for my rabbit for the past nine years and it has been a favorable experience until recently. I booked a stay for our rabbit in mid-September for a boarding in early November and received email confirmation. When I called the week before boarding to double check her stay, a staff member, Tony, initially said that there was no record of my booking and then found the confirmation when I forwarded emails confirming her stay. He then proceeded to tell me that they could not accept her because she was not a client of the veterinarian at All Pets. I indicated to him that I had not been informed of this policy when I made the booking, and this has never been the case the many times that she has boarded there (most recently in January 2024). He became argumentative on the phone and finally said he would let her stay "just this once" without being seen at All Pets. He then emailed me and indicated that she would need to have proof of vaccination for RHD2 (which her vet has not found it necessary to administer during her annual visits). He sent this email to me about this new requirement 5 days before her intended stay. I called several vet offices about administering this vaccine and either they did not have it in stock or she would need a visit with the vet before administration (and there were no openings prior to her boarding dates). I received no response to my email re: inability to obtain vaccine sent to Almost Home. Once again, if there were new requirements needed for boarding, then Almost Home should have told/emailed me about them when I made the booking weeks prior to her boarding dates. I am disappointed with Almost Home's abrasive communication and lack of informing me of new requirements for boarding in a timely fashion. They do not value customer service and I will not be using them again. read more

In over 15 years of having fur babies, I've never kenneled one of them, but I've been feeling overwhelmed with two dalmatians, both 1 yr old. Since adding them to our family we hadn't been on an overnight and since they're crated when we are not at home, it felt like a lot to ask our family to check on them. After stopping by another kennel recommended by a friend, I almost changed my mind about using a kennel. But visiting Almost Home made me rethink it and I'm happy I did. We had a great vacation to Atlanta without a worry. Kennel: all kennels are the same size and cost. My dals boarded together and I received a discounted rate for the second dal. Almost Home promises to let our your dog 5x daily and will not be put outside with other animals. Bedding: you can bring bedding but Almost Home offers blankets or beds. Food: they supply the bowls but you bring in your pet's food and advise how often to feed them. They also get your okay to offer them treats. Other services: grooming and doggie day care are offered for an additional service. If your fur baby takes medication, they will administer it for free. Scheduling: it took only a quick call to book our dals stay. I filled out a service agreement and info sheet, plus provided vet records. (Kennels do require extra shots, including the dog flu vaccine. Plan accordingly.) Summer and holidays are booked far in advance. Almost Home is very popular. Check in as early as 7a and out by 7p. We only had one snag - our original paperwork was lost. Thankfully I called ahead and learned this. Almost Home called our vet to secure records and we resigned the service agreement. A quick fix! If you stop in during business hours, someone will show you around the facility and answer questions. A website is also available and they do respond to emails. read more

I have to update my original review. If I could give them negative 5 stars I would. We were SO happy when we found this place. They were great with our doggie who can be nervous at first. When we picked him up they explained how well he had done and he even bonded with a male worker and I was in contact with Katie the entire trip. Fast forward 6 months and I buy plane tickets, schedule a vacation and email to make reservations for him and I was told he is 'high risk for biting' and they will not accept him. I called immediately and the clerk said he was noted in the system as a 'risk' and they cant keep him. She said if we would have brought him in weekly for daycare visits then he would have been 'fixed' and his shyness cured. Well first that ia crazy and second of all no one ever told me that!! I would have done whatever to have a place for him that we trust. This is the worst way to run a business honestly. I even asked for Katie the owner to call back and she didn't even bother. I can not believe that every dog they board is happy and free of nerves. I was told to use almost home by my vet because they were 'supposed' to be caring and understanding of 'special' dogs. Well that certainly isn't the case. So my advice is, if you need a place you can trust, do not trust them with your dog. read more

I moved to Louisville about two months ago and the first thing I always have to do when I move to a new city is find a place I feel comfortable boarding my baby, aka my basset hound Clementine. I had multiple people tell me how wonderful Almost Home was, and they were so right! I went on a 9 day cruise out of the country, and they took such good care of my baby. They not only sent me email pics of Clementine to assure me she was doing well, since I couldn't call as I was out of the country, but they also put up with my mother calling and checking on her as well. Clementine has never been so well taken care of, and I know that she is as spoiled at Almost Home as she is when she is actually home. If I could give twenty stars I would - I would highly highly recommend Almost Home Boarding to anyone who wants to board their babies with a staff who cares about your dog as much as you do. read more

We joined AHB&T for Puppy Kindergarten in October 2015 after we got a puppy in September. Katie and Marriane are the best. The classes are centered around bonding, it is not a drop off your dog type of training. They teach you and you teach your dog. It is a safe environment and they make sure only safe dogs are in the class. Our dog learned, sit, down, stay, wait, come; they are also teaching agility as well as obedience. They are a CGC school, so you can get the AKC Star Puppy and the Canine Good Citizen Title. read more

This place is the absolute best! When we adopted our oldest dog who was a year old at the time, she was kicked out of two doggie daycares for being wild. I was at a loss. This dog needed someone to help us to help her so she didn't go back to the shelter. We found Almost Home and they loved on her and were able to teach us and the dog skills. My oldest has been going there for 8 years. We ended up adopting another dog during Covid and he has been attending daycare at Almost Home as well. This past summer we went on a couple of vacations and had them boarded at Almost Home. Since the last vacation I kept the dogs home for a couple of weeks to save some money and with school starting and everything it was just best. Anyway, today when the youngest was wanting to get on our bed (he needs help getting on the bed) I said no we are going to 'daycare'. He jumped and ran to the door leading out to the garage! He was so excited to go to Almost Home! it was so cute and funny to see him jump and run, that dog does not run for anything:) Almost Home is so great! Yep, we found our groomer. After trying other groomers here in Louisville, this one far exceeds the rest. The staff was very friendly and the facility was super clean and professional. They did a great job on my pup's haircut and finished way faster than any other groomer in the past. They were also super accommodating with scheduling. We, of course, don't plan our pups haircuts ahead and they squeezed us in during Spring Break pretty last minute! Price is comparable to other places. Thanks for the service, Almost Boarding! We have two dogs, one blind since birth and the other a rescue who wears a bell on her collar as to be the seeing eye dog. We are blessed to have found Almost Home. We do have a lot of particulars for our dogs given the circumstances and the staff never questions it one bit. They make us feel comfortable and at ease - the dogs love it there. Compared to other kennels, they aren't scared when we drop them off and they are in great spirits when we pick them up. The staff is super professional. We have decided to switch to the vet there instead of the one we have gone to for 25 years bc we just love the place. Safe, secure building and a very well- trained staff make this our go to place. They don't gauge with pricing and even have a Sunday evening pick up. We couldn't be happier. read more

Puppy was groomed here- seemed to enjoy it and looked great afterwards. Establishment was clean; everyone was friendly and groomer took that time to go over the kind of cut I wanted for my dog. I wanted a short summer cut for my labradoodle. He is much more comfortable now :) Groomer met with me at end and told me how he did and what he did good and bad- he's a puppy- there's always room for improvement!! read more

I had a very good experience when booking and dropping off my dog for boarding. The staff was helpful and able to answer all of my questions. My experience during pick up was completely the opposite. After paying I was handed a receipt and a letter from the management stating that they had had incidents of bordetella during the time my dog was there. This was something I asked about beforehand. The other kennel I've taken my dog to required a bordetella vaccination two weeks prior to drop off. Almost Home allows for a longer window. They do have a vet onsite so I assumed they knew better than I did. My dog did not contract bordetella, but this was a red flag for me receiving this letter upon pick up. As my dog was brought out I immediately notice his EasyWalk Harness is on backwards making it useless for preventing him from pulling. Instead my dog's collar was removed and they were guiding him with the leash wrapped around his neck choker-style. This is the most frustrating part for me, because if I wanted or was OK with using a choker collar on my dog I would have brought one. I don't appreciate them taking this liberty. Not to mention the obvious - How is it that a company that trains dogs can't understand how to use a dog harness? I'm walking out and ask the handler if my dog had any food leftover. I brought a large bag for him. I was told he didn't, which I told him could not possibly be true. His food was behind the front counter 3/4 full. Again just bizarre that the person handling my dog did not know that he had food or where it was located. Possibly the handlers aren't the ones feeding them though. As I'm loading up his stuff I notice his bed reeks of piss. He is potty trained but I can see him being nervous within the first few days and peeing in the kennel. But they should have washed the bed, hosed it off, or given him a loaner or something. Knowing he was laying in his own piss for the last week is upsetting. Plus I purchased the grooming. It kind of negates giving him a bath if you have him laying in pee afterwards. These are the negatives. There are positives too which is why I gave 3 stars. I like having a vet onsite. They are flexible about working with your dogs needs. And the staff for the most part is knowledgeable. It's not a bad place just some poor decision making by some. read more

We take our 8 pound Cavapoo to this facility once a week for doggie day care and sometimes for half days randomly. They are generally full so you must book at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Toby loves it and we have been pleased with their service. Their dog runs, even for small dogs, are big enough so they don't feel caged when they are not in the play area. My boyfriend has often accused me of liking my two cats more than I like him, or anyone else, so you can imagine my distress when the idea came up of boarding them over Memorial Day weekend so the two of us could go on a getaway trip to Washington D.C. However, I wanted to go on vacation so I scoured the internet for highly rated boarders and finally found Almost Home Boarding & Training on the Better Business Bureau's website. I called and talked with Kathy who explained their boarding protocols and asked that I send them a copy of the cats' current vaccines (or bring them on the day of boarding). Each of the two times that I spoke with Kathy prior to bringing the cats in I experienced excellent customer service. I brought the cats in to be boarded on the Friday before Memorial Day and even though it was a Friday afternoon Kathy greeted me warmly and took the time to walk me to the back and show me the area in which the cats would be staying. Since I was nervous about leaving them she gave me a detailed explaination of how their cat condo worked, and explained all of their emergency protocols. After seeing the clean comfortable facility I felt at ease leaving my cats there. On Saturday while I was touring D.C. I was quite pleased to receive a text message from Kathy with photos of the cats playing with toys and a message explaining that they were adapting well. When I picked the cats up on Tuesday evening they were clearly well cared for, though pleased to see me.. From start to finish this was an above average experience and I am happy to know that I now have a safe place to leave the cats when I travel. read more

Would not recommend. I was visiting friends in town and had to board my 2 dogs and 2 cats (as my friends were allergic and we stopped to see them on our way to visit my family for the holidays). At check in they hardly asked any questions about my animals, just wanted to know if they had their vaccines and what they ate. No questions about temperament or if they had any allergies. Then when I gave them the animals they wanted me to leave my 1 cat in the lobby and walk away. I wasn't comfortable doing so, but they'd wanted me to leave b/c my 1 dog wasn't wanting to go with them. So I walked outside for a minute and then walked back in. When I walked back in they looked at me funny and told me to leave, but I told them I didn't want the cat to be alone but they assured me everything was fine, so I left. When we picked them up the next day I got NO information about their stay. It was like pulling teeth to get any info. I was told the cats were "fine". I asked about their food and she made stuff up! She told me they ate their can food, but not the dry, which is Very unlike them, usually when they are nervous the cats will only eat the dry food and not touch the can. When they brought out the cats they seemed ok so I loaded them in the car and came back for my dogs. It took then 30 minutes to get my dogs, the whole time they kept stating that they were in the far back corner, whatever that means...also, it should be noted that they were not super busy, in fact I was the only person picking up at that time...when they dogs finally showed up I realized what was taking so long. The person walking my older dog had NO idea how to walk him. She was practically choking him and making him stop every step. When he saw me, all he wanted to do was come and see me but the lady wouldn't let him. She told me to go outside to my car and that she would walk him out b/c she didn't want any other dogs to come inside while he was there. My dog is NOT dog aggressive, in fact, he loves other dogs, so I don't know why she would think like that. All my dog wanted to do was say hello to me, but she wouldn't let him, and she wouldn't let me touch my own dog! So we get all the critters in the car and start our drive to my parents, only to discover that the cats, who did "fine" had urinated on themselves and smelled, which caused our entire car to smell, and us to smell...needless to say we will NOT be going back, nor will we recommend it to anyone we know. Oh yeah, and I packed them the exact amount of food in baggies for easy feeding and they gave me back 1/2 of it...so basically my animals weren't fed while they were there. read more

I had the worst experience with this business that I think I've ever had anywhere. I made a reservation to board my dog three weeks ago due to a mandatory work trip. When I made the reservation, the woman told me that I had to bring proof of her rabies vaccination, her food, and bed (if I wanted to). A woman even called a few days ago to confirm the reservation. I went to drop her off today. I handed the woman my dog's vaccination papers. She said she needed proof of other shots. I didn't have proof of any other shots. They never told me that I needed that proof of other vaccinations, nor is it anywhere on their website. They refused to take her without proof. They refused to accommodate me in any way even though they were negligent in telling me about providing further paperwork. I asked about the vet they claim to have on staff. They rudely told me she was booked for the day. (How long would it have taken to give my dog a shot?!) I asked if they could isolate my dog. Again they refused. Needless to say, if they had they told me I needed additional paperwork, I would have provided it. I explained that this was a work trip. They refused to assist me in any way even though this was their negligence. I was late leaving town. Fortunately a good samaritan at my groomers took my dog. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. They were negligent, rude, and their customer service was deplorable. If this is how they run their business, I'm glad I didn't leave my dog there. read more

In the early spring of 2012 we brought home Gavin, a 10 month old bullmastiff, who had a really rough start to his life. Other professional trainers told me he was dog aggressive and threw up their hands and would only help me if I paid an exorbitant amount of money, the situation seemed hopeless. The first time I brought Gavin to Almost Home's Dog Day Out, I explained what the other trainers had told me and they gave Gavin a lot of time and personal attention and very slowly and safely integrated him with the other dogs. Today, Gavin cannot wait to go see his friends at Dog Day Out. He is the class clown and dogs and people alike seem to laugh at his antics. In addition to Dog Day Out, Gavin and I attended many of the classes they offer. The agility class helped Gavin and I "listen" to each other in addition to wearing out his non stop energy. First grade helped me build the confidence to walk him around our neighborhood without worry. Gavin loves all of his friends at Almost Home, both four legged and two legged. I will always be grateful to Katie and Kathy and all of the others at Almost Home for all of their time and attention they gave us. read more

This was the first time I've ever boarded my dogs with Almost Home. Two of my dogs have only ever been boarded once and the other one has never been boarded so needless to say, I was fairly nervous. Check-in was smooth and quick, which I liked. My dogs who normally aren't the greatest with strangers, went straight back with the associate that took them back. I left there feeling very at ease. The next day, they were nice enough to send me a text message with a picture which definitely earned them brownie points in my book. I thought it was so thoughtful and sweet!! I came and picked them up and without asking first, they gave me a full update on how they did (which they did way better than I thought they would. Ha.) Check out was also very fast and easy. The associate that brought my dogs out helped me out to the car with them, which is also nice when you have 3 doggies running around excited to see their mom after 5 days!! The only semi negative thing I found was they sent their bed home smelling of urine but honestly, it's nothing my washer and dryer can't handle so I'm not that concerned. Just something I happened to notice it as soon as we got in the car to leave. I kind of just wish they would have checked it and made sure it was clean since it came in clean. But oh well. Like I said, not really a deal breaker for me. All in all, I was extremely satisfied with Almost Home and I do plan on using them again if I need to board my dogs. They were able to handle my not so socialized dogs with patience and they got well taken care of while staying there. I am super pleased with the entire experience!!! read more

I would like to tell anyone that is thinking of boarding the family pets to for sure take them to Almost home boarding and training. I was fortunate enough to have a friend tell me that her vet highly endorsed this place. I have never left my cats anywhere before. My dogs had a house sitter several times. But have never been boarded. I have a famliy member in poor health and will have to make several trips to help care for her. When I heard about this I looked it up and read all the info. Kathy co owner is wonderful and does explain everything you need to know. I called and asked if I could stop by and see how my guys would be set up. She was very happy to do that for me. I went over one morning and Kathy took me around and showed me where the cats would be staying. The room is sound proof and that was important to me. I have been places where they put the cats on top of the dogs runs. I was so impressed with the windows. The cats can look out on a little backyard with bird feeders and bird baths and bird houses etc. What a great idea. Then she took me to see where my goldens would be staying. Once again it was beautiful. A very large run that both would be very comfortable in. I was shocked. They even supply you with a quilt for your dog. I had two of my own and she told me at night they bed them down with additonal quilts. What more can you ask for. My dogs went out to there very own yard, just the two of them. Dogs from the same family can share the yard. There are several yards for the dogs. I just can't say enough about Kathy and how my pets were taken care of. My dogs were so clean, I had them bathed before I took them over.....and they were as clean when I picked them up.....and the only smell they had was the Golden retriever smell that I love.!!! Everyone was happy to settle back in the night I picked them up. All in their little places where they should be. But so well taken care of that they were all very content. I will be going back again to see Kathy and leave my family in wonderful hands.When I pulled out after dropping them off. I was so confident that I could focus on my trip as knew they were going to be well taken are of. Thank you Kathy I am a believer now of boarding my pets. :) But only with you.:) Diane read more
