The worker that was working there insulted me in mandarin I guess they don't expect customers to be bilingual

Update Nov 9/25: Ruby never ceases to amaze me! Just when you thought all wonton soups are the same, I just tried their small takeout portion and OMG this is the best wonton soup and there's no close second! I've never seen wontons so huge with so much meat in them! Even cutting the wonton in half I couldn't fit the half in my mouth! And the best part is that in addition to the pork wonton there were also chunks of sliced pork mixed in with the broth! The ratio of wonton and pork to soup base was easily 90% meat and 10% soup! Look at the photos I just added and see for yourself! ----------- Original review: We decided to come this restaurant for my birthday this past Monday on a recommendation from my neighbor. WOW we made a great choice! Not sure what some of the negative reviewers were expecting, but our entire experience was perfection! Dine-in: Yes we knew ahead of time this restaurant was mostly take-out, but they still have dine-in, and sure it's not a 5-star seating experience, but if that's what you want, then go pay 100x more an an upscale restaurant. Growing up in NYC, the dine-in experience here reminded me of almost every Chinese restaurant on Canal Street (Chinatown in lower Manhattan) - very authentic, where the focus is on the food and service, not the seating and decor, so we all actually enjoyed the atmosphere. Food: There were 4 of us (all very big eaters and starving) so we ordered the "Dinner for Four Q" special: 4 egg rolls, chicken fried rice, chicken Chow Mein, beef with broccoli, sweet & sour chicken balls and breaded jumbo shrimp PLUS the lemon chicken (highly recommended by my neighbor). WOW was the food outstanding! HUGE portions (we were using the other tables to place the food trays) and all very tasty and authentic! The chicken balls were 90-95% mostly tender juicy meat (not mostly breading like other places), and the lemon chicken was the best I've ever had (trust me, I've tried hundreds from other restaurants) and they did not hold back on the sauce - half the container box filled with it, of which was spectacular, not tasteless and overly tangy like other sauces)! We were all stuffed and every single dish we ordered was still at least half full! Today is Friday and I'm still enjoying left-overs! (since it was my b-day I took most of the leftovers ) Service: All the food came piping hot and fresh very fast! Ruby was a ray of sunshine full of joy, constantly smiling, making sure we had everything we needed, and even cracking a few jokes during our festivities. She even re-packaged all the leftovers in bags without us even having to ask! For our first time dining at this restaurant all of us meeting up coming from Toronto, London and Guelph for my birthday, we are so glad we chose this restaurant, and will all be making the trek back (individually and collectively) to this restaurant, as everything was PERFECTION! After a long morning we wanted something quick and decided to try this restaurant out. The couple who attended us were very accommodating and we requested no egg, meats, dairy or fish sauces be used. The chef was kind enough to show us the sauce he was going to use. Ordered two lunch specials - Mixed Vegetables and Tofu , one on steamed rice and the other on fried rice. Both made vegan. Fairly good, although it needed some a bit more spice to make it better. Absence of or very low usage of ginger and garlic may also be the cause. But the ingredients fresh as they can be, the steamed rice cooked perfectly and fried rice made good as well. Love their customer service and flexibility to accommodate us. Definitely coming back for some other dishes. read more

In a town as small as Acton, it's hard for restaurants to stay in business if they don't offer consistently good food. Double Happiness has been in business for a long time. Large portions, a variety of flavours, high quality ingredients, and everything that one would expect from a Chinese Canadian restaurant are what I've come to expect from Double Happiness. I have never sat down to eat in the restaurant - take-out only for me - but the family that runs Double Happiness is friendly and obviously cares about what they cook. My two complaints: 1) The Chop Suey is simply a pile of flavoured bean sprouts. It tastes pretty good, but it's not what you expect. 2) A copy of their menu isn't available online. My two favourite things: 1) Order the Broccoli and Beef in Szechwan. It's really good. 2) Food is prepared amazingly fast. read more

I'll be more than happy to write something juicy & crispy (like their Lemon Chicken) about this restaurant. BANG! first off! New York style Chinese food made in Canada! lol TAste & portions!* *the taste of their Szechuan Chow Mein, special Lemon Chicken, special! crispy egg rolls, to die for fried rice, beef so ha noodles! Yum yum. The portions of their plates are crazy, it seems you get 1.5x more when you take out, the styrofoam box is always on the verge of exploding! Imagine, Cantonese and Szechuan food exploding into the skies and falling down like rain...heaven. Plenty to choose from here, great lunch menu combos for less than $8. Food is good for fast food Chinese Racially ambiguous and half Chinese with a grandfather who was an amazing Cantonese chef from ghounzhou I may be a bit picky when it comes to Chinese.I thought the rice though which is one of the easiest to do was below par.hated it...but my 9 year old loves it .But then he never grew up with my grandfathers cooking and he is now only expose to dada Italian culture. My son loved the chicken balls. I initially said 3 stars..but then thought unfair a little because my granpa's food was not catering to North American style. So let's bring in customer service-the family is excellent with their customer service skills. Hence with these factors added I'm giving a 4 out of 5. read more

The food here is tasty and fresh and.so good. My personal favourite as well ad my hubby and my parents' fave is the Cantonese Chow Mein. The best I've had anywhere! They overflow the take-out container with colourful veggies, a ton of meat including nice sized shrimp and perfectly done noodles underneath. Their breaded shrimp is also very good as well as their Pineapple Go Lo Pork. The staff are very sweet; it's a family run business. My only complaint is the ambience; not a very nice looking cozy place. Definately needs a make-over. read more

Taste is there, portions are great, owner and his wife are so cute. Many people are concern about the decor, but I choose food, atmosphere and service over decor any day. We are Chinese folks that knows authentic Chinese foods, so we know chicken balls at Double Happiness are meant for the Western culture, but damn, we were taken by surprised how that dish made us ignore our authentic taste buds and gobble those enormous tasty real chicken (not grounded stuff fake chicken). Thank you for those smiles every time we dine in. The increased volume of kitchen cooking and screaming made us feel at ease with authentic Hong Kong dining. read more

We ordered two combinations and two soups and none of it was edible. The lemon chicken came breaded with out indication with a small bite size piece of chicken inside, same goes for the chicken balls. We also had beef and broccoli and had 3 small pieces of beef in it. After calling the restaurant with disappointment they offered no apology and said I'll know for next time. There was four adults who are completely dissatisfied. If there was an option to give no stars, I would. I would never give them by business again. read more

Ordered from here twice. First time was probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Could not eat it and ended up tossing it is the garbage. We tried it again as it gets good reviews, and thought maybe we just got a bad batch. Sure enough it was the same as the first time.... Awful!!!. Ordered food for New Year's Eve. The Lemon chicken breading was soggy and the chicken itself had crunchy cartilage plus the lemon sauce tasted like metal. Also, the rice tasted like cardboard. Our order was incorrect as we ordered the Chicken chow mein but got the chop suey instead. I had a few bites of the chicken and immediately had stomach pains. My husband wasn't even able to eat his meal as he lost his appetite and the food was thrown out. Very disappointed and a waste of money. read more

Amazing place to eat, really nice people working the counter and the food never disappoints. I haven't tried a lot of the food but, the rice is flavour full and it has a good amount of chicken and vegetables compared to the rice. The chicken balls are also great. I have had a couple with just a bit too much batter but other wise always good. The only thing I think might need a change is some updated decor. I personally love this place as well as the family that owns it they are genuinely really nice people, I would recommend there food although I haven't really tried a lot of it. The ONLY chinese place I've ever been to that has good noodles! Their chow mein is not dry like at any other place I've tried and it comes topped with lots of fresh vegatables (unlike many places that give you a bit of carrot gratings and that's about it). Just make sure you specify you want the noodles (or you may get bean sprout chow mein). Love their Lemon Chicken as well. I will drive the hour to this place because nowhere else compares. For small town Acton, the food is always very good. made fresh and everything that we have ordered has been hot and well made. large portions, made fresh and very reasonably priced means good value for a good meal. The decor is dated but the food (everything from the menu) is well made and very good. Grab take out and enjoy for two days as there will no doubt be leftovers! read more
