So to start I rented thru Travelocity. The suite we stayed in was really nice . But check in was a nightmare as the email for check in did not come thru . So trying to get that figured out was a nightmare but there Was a younger girl at check in that was super helpful as for everyone else no help . So the big question in the name it's called a resort . What type of resort doesn't have food for there guests 7 days a week . I called Down to the front desk to ask if they had restaurant open for food in the morning for Monday morning . A response was given we only serve food on Saturday and Sunday . Ok Well no other options were given snack bar etc .. I wasn't asking for free I was just asking for food. We were very disappointed. Everything seemed to be broken or closed. We stayed for a couple of nights at the hotel (which was nice) and did the indoor waterpark... -The hot tub was closed -The water guns broken -The water pumps on the splash pad area didn't work. -The indoor waterslide was closed -The balls in the pool were busted -The outdoor waterpark slide was closed -The arts and craft station was closed -3/4 of the arcade games didn't work and the one's that did stole your money -The entire western town was closed with the exception of one store. -The restaurant/bar next to the indoor waterpark was closed. -The ice machines in the hotel were not available. -The tv's in the hotelroom were frozen. Run away as fast as you can!!! This place is a dump. Stayed the last few days and checked out today as fast as we possible could. Cabins are disgusting with bugs and cobwebs etc. I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. Front desk staff is all very rude, zero smiles or how are you today at all. Even the manager Christina who I tried to talk to a few days ago was very condescending and rude, just making up excuses why it's so dirty here. Our " suite " was filthy. The toilet looked as though it had not been cleaned for awhile. The unmade pullout made was unmade , revealing a urine -stained mattress. We had 3 towels and 1 roll of toilet for a family of 4. The back forty was run-down , dirty and deserted. Many guests were still waiting to check in at 8:00 pm as their rooms were not cleaned yet. Indoor putt-putt golf is above water-park so it is unbearably hot and humid within. The water park had only 1 life guard for 3 tunnels . The outdoor water park was a slimy Petrie Dish. There was a huge fight at the front desk on our first night there, one of the workers who was still shaken still came over to serve ice cream afterwards which was highly commendable. read more

Came upon this place after discovering that "luxury family resort in the Midwest" is an ungoogleable oxymoron. We were seeking a weekend family getaway that had good dining, a water park, plenty of kids activities, nice accommodations and, well, a cut above the standard places -- all within driving distance from Chicago. So glad we found Double JJ! The only thing I don't understand is why it wasn't packed. We were there on a summer weekend and I think this resort may just be under marketed. It's incredibly cute and well themed. The cabins were clean and out of a fairy tale. Other than some of the water park features (sprayers, water guns...the things kids love), everything seemed to be well maintained. The horseback riding...old fashioned western downtown facade...golf course...restaurant...snack shop... It was all great. Can't wait to share this place with other Chicagoans. What started off horrible ended up being a great experience. Over the past weekend my girlfriend and I went on a one night stay at the Double JJ Resort. We show up for check in, get our room keys and guess what? The keys didn't work. Keep in mind, you have to drive to and from the check out area to the loft style rooms. I go back and get new keys, I understand that stuff happens. I try the new keys and wouldn't you guess it, the keys didn't work again. So I head back once again and at this point I'm a little annoyed. I ask for a new room because I didn't want to have to comeback. We get new keys, a new room and a free round of mini golf on the house, I hate golf. We get our room, door opens and we head in. Upon my routine hotel inspection I find a open soap at the sink and what appeared to be shit on the toilet seat. At this point, I'm trying to stay cool. But this also supposed to be a resort. Especially for the prices, this should be top notch. The room was out of date, still had a old tube style tv, the blankets felt rough to the skin and again, poop on the toilet seat. So I immediately call the front desk. My girlfriend begged me not. She just wanted to start her birthday weekend. I call and I speak to probably the nicest person I've ever met, resort manager Tammy. I tell about everything and see immediately upgrades my room to a suite. It had no windows or balcony, but it was 100 nicer and what I felt like I was paying for. On top of that, they gave me a discounted rate because my issues I had earlier in the day. Based on that part of this trip, it was a great time. But now let's take a deep dive into The Double JJ resort based on my time there. The water park. On their website it states that the water park is kept at 84 degrees. It was super cold in there and so was the water. Furthermore, after our experience, I had a bunch of marks on my back from one slide. I didn't really care for that. I also kept finding trash in the water. The bar inside the main building was okay. The prices were decent but the service wasn't as quick as you would expect from a resort of this magnitude. The pizza wasn't good but it also wasn't bad. They had 5 dollar margaritas, pre mixed and super strong. The Sundance restaurant was really good. We had a beautiful view of a lake and golf course. What they failed to tell us was that you had to make reservations for this place. That would've been nice to know. The prime rib was decent, the sides and portions were good for the money. The New York strip was spot on. Probably the best I've ever had. The service was top notch. The arcade had many issues. I probably lost 5 dollars in total in tokens from the machines taking them. I would've said something, but I didn't feel the need considering they were low on staff. Moving forward, the ticket price for the prizes was good. Not like a normal arcade where it's unrealistic. The new room we were upgraded to was good. Flat screen tv, a queen size bed and a nice bathroom. We even had a little kitchen. That was nice. All in all, 3 stars is what I'll leave them with. Tammy was a great manager, the staff was also really nice. They had their issues here and there. The parking garage was a joke. But overall, after they gave me some money back, it wasn't bad. The room (Thoroughbred Suites) had potential but housekeeping and multiple maintenance issues--coupled with a general feeling of innatentive management--made our visit extremely disappointing. We were there four days before our room was cleaned/resupplied for the first time. (After leaving out the servicing sign on the door) Other family members staying in cabins also ran into persistent problems that were not promptly addressed. What should have been a relaxing week became stressful with substantial time spent dealing with issues that never should have arisen. We will not be back and will continue to encourage others to avoid this resort as well. Given the amount of money we spent, this experience was inexcusable. (And to be clear, I'm not interested in a token response from management as this does nothing to give us back our wasted time or money.) read more

BED BUGS!!!!! BED BUGS!!!!! BED BUGS!!!!!! Upon arriving to the Double JJ Resort our room smelled strongly of weed. The entire campus smelled like smoking was allowed. We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt so we overlooked that and stayed. We should have left as soon as possible!!!! The room was disgusting and we never received any service to our room like stated on several signs in the room. (If our housekeeper would've came she should have noticed bed bugs) No new towels or anything. The ceiling lights were shattered, walls are thin we could hear everything. Upon leaving we noticed bed bug bites all over our backs and legs. We noticed after we had checked out and were told we could not receive a refund because we already left??? Ridiculous. How were we supposed to know our room had bed bugs? That's not our responsibility. I contacted Expedia several times and they were just as bad at handling the situation. The manager Tammy was a COWARD and didn't answer any of my calls or respond to my voicemails. Any call went straight to voicemail and the front desk attendants didn't know how to handle the situation. So unprofessional. So disgusting. Our vacation was ruined by this horrible place. Good customer service and a good place to stay matters so much. I hope Double JJ closes. Don't ever stay here. read more

The family and i stayed there this past weekend, and let me say we were not impressed. The bunkbed had radom screws holding it together. The bunkbed was wobbly. The pool was way too packed, but I guess when you're making money, who cares how many people are in there. The $29 they charge to swim, I guess it is supposably to help maintain the pool. Not the case here. The 2 flights of stairs we had to walk down had dust and cobwebs everywhere. The pool itself had paint missing, and one slide wasn't working. Whatever you dont buy, the $9 donuts they sell. I was like Homer Simpsons when I saw them. Luckily, I did some research and found where they get them, which is only 5 mins away. Mac's Meats was the place, and they were only I do believe $3.25. The arcade had out of order games. Also, I didn't see any cleaning staff as people had trash sitting outside their room the whole weekend. Way under staffed. read more

The food was Divine. Staff was so kind and the water park was stunning. Although the water was nice there was a strange odor that was coming from one of the hot tubs. The smell still lingers in one of my bathing suits and in my hair. Regardless the higher roofs and details on the rafters made everything feel furnished and rustic. My kids eyes lit up seeing the arcade. They had a blast! We left feeling happy and our hearts warmed by the hospitality of the staff. I would definitely return, if I the hot tub was cleaned. Save your money. Wish I had read the reviews before scheduling a stay. Read reviews on trip advisor too. They need to change their business plan, put some money into updating the rooms and grounds and then it might be worth visiting. Terrible. Rented a cabin and it was bad as soon as we walked in. Outdated would have been fine. But if they would have just looked under the microwave they would have seen the Kool aid or juice spilled from previous renters. Mold throughout cabin in different areas. The water park sucked lol, I haven't even been to many watermarks in my life and that 1 was not good. Half of it didn't work when we were there and was roped off. How fun for 2 young kids. Not. I've never stayed In a resort here but I have camped here for electric forest! One of the most eye opening experiences I've ever had. The entire festival is built for attendee pleasure. The visual displays on all the stages are cutting edge and very impressive. The forest is full of activities and sights to see the place is painted in colors. You could spend the whole weekend looking around and I'm sure you would not see everything in this forest. The people here and staff are very welcoming and friendly everyone seemed to have the best intentions. read more

This place is ok. Service in restaurant was very good. Campground was all dirt and it rained (of course) so probably won't be back to camp. Sites were too tight for my 32 ft camper and was missing a fire pit and picnic table. General Store and little town definitely gave that ghost town feel. Little service in these areas made wait times longer. Fun for younger kids. Splash pad and water slide outdoors kept the kids busy for a few hours. We didn't utilize the equestrian activities but people seemed to be enjoying them. read more

I will start this off by saying we had an okay time overall but I will never be and and never recommend this place to anyone. I have been calling for six months; asking questions, confirming reservations, etc. it took me almost SIX WEEKS to get a call back about a trail ride. When looking on their website at other things they offer - DO NOT TRUST IT. All we wanted to do was use the pool Friday however it doesn't open until 4pm. At 2pm we went to go check with the front desk about how to use the wristbands (that get you in free on Fridays) work. Well conveniently on the "free" day the pool wasn't going to open. There was a gentleman at the front who claimed he was "the manager of both pools at the Double JJ" and he basically said it was closed but never gave a reason. And now Saturday we have to pay and the pool is only open from 11-7 even though the website says 10-9. This is not the only thing that has weird hours though - there is NOTHING open before 4pm on Friday. So when we arrived Thursday we were basically told to "suck it up" there is nothing they could do. Why doesn't your website state this? Or someone could have mentioned when booking so we could have had another plan in place. Also hope you weren't planning on sleeping in since the groundskeeping manager start leaf blowing and weed whipping right below your balcony at 7am every single morning. I'm super disappointed in this place, every staff member you talk to says something different so you don't know what's going on and can't make a plan. And you do have to pay for every single thing here - your room includes nothing. They did mention they are under new management so hopefully they can turn it around. read more

Kept getting errors then discovered the 'minimum nights required' was not met. So I sent this email: [I'm confused why there's a two night requirement this weekend where there is nothing on your website that states that it Has to be done so I would like a manager to get back with me and explain to me why there's a two night requirement when there's no policy on the website] Their Response: [There are many internal decisions that we do not post online, in this case there are too many variables to work with. Room types, building types, occupancy percentages, holidays, etc.] My Response : [That makes no logical sense. You can't expect someone to GUESS there's a 2 night minimum when they attempt to book. Your error doesn't even specify this!! Why do you think Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day are ALWAYS a 3 day minimum and yet the disclaimer still gets posted everywhere? You expect to impose a rule that's not even implied in any way?] Valid question right? Nope, they don't have a good answer so they blocked me. This could easily be 1 star, but since my kids enjoyed the waterpark I'll give it a very generous 2. This place needs some updates, more staff, and new management. The front desk staff were confused most of the time as they forgot to give out bracelets, waivers, vouchers or have a general clue as to what was going on. Some people in our group had to make some changes over the phone prior to arrival and the staff on the phone were super confused and rude They had a town square that had shops...it was completely hit and miss when the shops were open?! OR if the shop actually had a working business. The horse stables were in complete shambles. They took care of their animals, but had no clue who was getting a lesson, riding a wagon, or which vouches to take. They were so unorganized. My daughter signed up for a lesson and got a one time ride around in a circle. The pool failed to open on time both days we were there and very limited towels. If any at all. PRO: Water temp was near perfect. Every place needed some paint and some weeding. The cabins were....ok. Clean, but the ceiling fan squeaked, the AC unit shook and the water was really gross. Very outdated. NOT worth the expensive price. Waterpark was a bit pricey, but featured 4 slides. A hot tub that went outside (again....some much needed weeding around the place) and a wave pool/lazy river. The restaurant on the first floor was bad. VERY slow service and the food was not good. All their liquor choices were disgusting. Some stuff I have never heard of. I wouldn't even classify it "well" drinks. It almost seemed like this place once was awesome, but the owners stopped caring. The place has a TON of potential, but I would say, SAVE YOUR MONEY.... :( read more

During check-in, we were given a satisfaction survey; it was a copy of a copy of a copy that was almost entirely illegible. This is how much they care about your opinion. The rest of the stay was a reflection of this. The room was dirty, bathtub didn't drain. No restraunts open in the morning. The only place to serve coffee is the one little convenience store next to the saloon that doesnt open until 10am. That store didn't open on time either morning, wasn't cleaned the night before, employees walk in (after 10am) and start opening so no coffee made until almost 11. Employee walks around the store barefoot. The place is run-down and poorly maintained. No pride in much of anything. And on. and on. and on. I think they once had a successful business (from what I'm told) but they have made it and don't seem to care anymore. Maybe the children/grandchildren are running the place and weren't raised to have any pride. Definitely will not come back here. read more

We had fun at the water park, but being the off season, everything was closed. The arcade was dark, dirty and 1/2 the games did not work. They didn't have many prizes to choose from, and the ones that they did have cost a lot of tickets. I paid for the Splash package and it was supposed to be a free continental breakfast, but the food was luke warm and picked over, the waitress gave a nice reminder that even though the food was free she still would like a tip since it isn't included. We stayed at the Lofts and it was comparable to the Red Roof Inn and we had to make lots of noise walking to the back end of the motel (no parking by building) due to the family of very large raccoons living in the eaves. The room was run down and in need of new furniture, paint, mattresses, and new pillows. It also would have been nice if a maid would have come and taken the trash out and restock the toilet paper. read more

We went there on Dec 17th of 2021 and we're scheduled to leave on the 19th. Due to the many issues in the substandard room for which we had prepaid for 2 nights, we decided to leave after one night. Just wasn't worth the price they charged. The front desk clerk even told us upon calling them on the first night that that room hasn't been upgraded yet. The water pressure in the sinks was poor, the garbage disposal didn't work, the bed was rock hard, the bedding was old and suspect, the furnishings we're dated and uncomfortable to sit on and lastly, most of the blinds didn't shut right. After just the one night, we checked out and was told by manager on duty that we would be refunded for the second night. Well 2 months later and after numerous calls and emails the manager has said "we have no record of it and won't be giving a refund" As this was my birthday surprise weekend, I was especially annoyed at the conditions. Was able to book two rooms on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, last minute (day of). The resort is beautiful and the theme is amazing. The staff are very helpful and one staff member even showed us a path to take our ATVs and quads through. Both rooms have two beds. Rooms are clean. The AC works well and will get the room cold. I would have put 5 stars but just a few things made it lose a star for being a resort and didn't match the price. The beds are stiff and the pillows are basic, so basically uncomfortable. Other than that, this place is great to explore. For example, it started raining and you can walk from the steak restaurant through the hotel to get to the other section of the hotel without getting extremely soaked. read more

This is kind of a late review as we were actually were there in the middle of July. We stayed in the Thoroughbred Lofts. The reason for staying there was because it was sort of centrally located to the places we were planning to visit. So for us, this was just some place to spend a couple of nights as we were gone all day. The Pros: It was clean and it looked as though they had recently done a lot of major repairs to the buildings' infrastructure. Obvious they had recently replaced a lot of the stairs, planks, railings, installed outside lighting, security cameras etc... Cons: They should have upgraded the rooms. They look like they are 50 years old. I realize they had this western theme going on, but old is old. No elevator, just lots of stairs. Try hauling a bunch of suitcase up 3 flights of stairs and around the building. That is not the task many people are up to. Then you get to the room to find half the vertical blinds are missing, which doesn't really matter anyway because the track is broke and hanging down. We had to hang sheets over the doors to have any kind of privacy. If it hadn't have been 10 PM when we got there I would have left. They're idea of modern is to put some cabinets in the corner with a microwave and a small refrigerator and call it a kitchenette. Then there is the Jacuzzi tub. Where to you think that is? Well we have some extra space over here in the corner of the bed room, we'll put it there. There really wasn't that much extra room. How about TV. Top of the line 1998 Zenith model number H2532Y. I guess the only other item to talk about regarding the rooms is that there is a sign on the door that says if you want your towels exchanged to put them on the floor. The thing they don't say is that they don't service the rooms unless you're there for an extended stay. So no clean towels unless you make arrangements, which you don't know about until you're out of towels. My family and I were staying at a lake not too far from Double JJ so we thought we would go check it out and do the horse riding dinner. No one was there to help us, and we later learned that we were the only people to sign up. Not to mention the trash that was everywhere and the place did not look very well kept at all. A few days later we wanted to go check out the indoor water park which said it was open on the website, but come to find out when we drove there it was closed. Stay away from this resort. They booked a room for me. The room was not the correct room. Manager agreed to cancel reservation and refund me the amount. Weeks later I still haven't received my refund. I have reached out to supervisor Christina , she claims I have to deal with Lori Chandonnect the accountant who refused to reply to my calls and emails. I left general manager Rita Kobylski voicemails who also refuses to return my calls. The IT manager Michael Cherney emails me and tells me that they will not refund because it's within 7 days of arrival. I send him the receipt with the refund amount from front desk supervisor and he replies hotel front desk error. They were not suppose to refund it. WHY AM I PAYING FOR HOTEL ERRORS. This is his reply to BBB. "The person at front desk didn't follow policy" . Why am I paying for the error from front desk supervisor. See attached reply from IT manager Michael Cherney. The room cancellation was due to the incorrect room booked. They took $623 from me and refused to refund it. This is very unethical and not good practice. They claim this is their policy not to refund. I completely understand this policy if I cancelled the room. This issue was on their end. For the price this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. I stayed in the Lofts and when I arrived Friday night there was garbage on the back stairs. On Sunday when I left it was still there. We never had maid service come to our room with towels, coffee etc. Both Friday and Saturday there was people partying on the patio out front making noise until the wee hours. The walls were so thing I could hear a toddler in the room next door talking past 1 in the morning interrupting sleep. Lastly, the TV was an old tube model with colors so ou set of whack it was hard to distinguish features. No hot water in the hot tub, paid 500 a night in a condominum for plastic silverware from the dollar store, no trash bags, etc. I strongly advise anyone looking for a "waterpark" or "retreat" to spend your money elsewhere. I've truly never been more disappointed in a stay. My family looked forward to this trip for 4 months, and we were completely let down in every aspect. Double JJ will not be recieving my business, or anyone I'm in contact with. When I called and asked to speak with a manager, the front desk told me "we don't have a manager. File a complaint".... I've never been so disgusted with a company. This will be taken to further extent as my reservation ensured a lot that that quite evidently, weren't provided for! Shame on this company. If I could give this place a zero star review, I would. We took our family here for our nephews 2nd birthday (for the weekend). The water park for a person is $40 and half of the water park was "out of service". The only hot tub they had, looked like it was not cleaned for 10 years. The tiles were blue and white and the white had turned to black. Over 60% of the arcade was also "out of service" and the entire old town area was closed, aside from an ice cream shop. Our great grandmother stayed with us and she is disabled. We asked if a wheelchair was an option and they had nothing for us. We stayed in a room to sleep 8 people and even though it was suppose to sleep 8 people, we had two sets of towels. When we used them and went to the front desk to ask for more, they had said they did not have any (what kind of hotel does not have towels to give out?). They had said they would request towels to be cleaned and sent up to our room. When they were done, the staff walked in while we were showering and dropped the towels off in a plastic garbage bag and threw them on the bed. It was nice to know the staff just walks in while we are in the shower without any notice. There were dead stink bugs in the room and dead gnats in the water cups in the bathroom. The pull out bed (from under the sofa) had disgusting black and red stains. The bunk beds literally sit on pieces of ply wood. The mattresses in general were hard and uncomfortable. The coffee makers were not cleaned in decades because they looked completely black and moldy! The quality of the TV's in the room were so bad they were 100% blurry. The fan in the room did not work. Even the lamp shades had tears in them. The light in the room looked like they forgot which bulbs they used because half was orange and half was white - And if this wasn't enough, the main restaurant attached to the hotel was the icing on the cake. There were 4 tables in the restaurant and the service was extremely slow. We were told they were out of certain menu items but after we had already ordered and waited for them. It took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine and the girl insisted it was because they ran out and had to go get more from a different bar (20 mins is still a little intense was a glass of wine). Our family ordered our meals and everything came out wrong. The wrong salad dressings, the wrong cooked meat, fries were stale cold like they put them from the fridge to the plate, and some of the meals had random stuff on it that was not suppose to be there. Many parts of the meals were forgotten. We had to ask 3 times for our side of fries and beer cheese. One of our meals had a giant hair in the middle of the meat and we had asked to get it replaced. We had been there probably 1.5 hours already and were a bit irritated because we had a two year old with us who was hungry and close to bed time. We had told our waitress that we needed to box up the food at this point because it was late and the experience overall was not great and we were not happy. HER RESPONSE WAS MEMORABLE!! Rachel (with bright blue hair) was her name. She had gotten inches away from my sisters face and said "seriously?! f*ck man!!" rolled her eyes, threw her hands up, and walked away. She had us looking in disbelief and everyone else in the restaurant. After she came back, she tried to convince us that she was the acting manager and she was the only one we could talk to. We could not believe how unprofessional she acted and the scene she made. After this she still walked away and made us wait 20-30 mins before returning. When she returned again, she tried to give us our bills and after we refused to pay fully for this disaster of a meal and a disgusting scene from her, she said " OH REALLY?!?! You're not going to pay!? OH OK. Then I'll be right back!!!" and she again did not return for another 20 mins. The way she was acting made my entire family feel unsafe and uncomfortable. We will not be eating there again because we do not trust her or the food! She acted like someone high on drugs and acted extremely violent. My sister went to the hotel for the manager because no one in the restaurant was able to help us with what just happened. The manager had to drive in from home and he was even extremely rude and not helpful at all. He acted as if he did not believe us (after the entire restaurant saw this). Not to mention that throughout this whole process, she never came back and we had people back at the room that had to-go orders that were forgotten completely as well (not that we cared because we would not be eating that food after the way she acted incase she did something to it!) At the end of this, we had a 2 year old who was up past his bedtime and went to sleep without a proper meal (as no one offered us any alternatives after the incident) along with the rest of the family. When we arrived at 5 pm there was already a line of frustrated people trying to get their rooms. There were several dozen people waiting. We were told by management that there had been a frat party the night before and they had damaged several rooms. We verified our information with the person working the front counter and were told that we would receive a call when the room was ready. We went and grabbed dinner and made our way back to check the status. At 8:15 pm we gave up because they couldn't even guarantee that we would get a room that night so we cancelled our reservation. They provided a full refund. Reading recent reviews I suspect that the frat party story might not be entirely true. It was very difficult to explain this to two young children who were very much so looking forward to playing in the waterpark. Very disappointed in our experience. read more

What a waste of potential. Within an hour of arriving (mind you, that first hour was spent standing in line for check in), my husband commented "Can we give negative stars on Yelp?". I believe there were maybe 5 groups in front of us and 3 or so individuals running the check in counter, so WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?! During this time, I was able to read reviews from other individuals, including a recent one mentioning bed bugs. As soon as we got to our cabin, I made it my mission to scour each bed for signs of bugs (I've had experience...I know what to look for!). We stayed in the Back Forty and the poor little decrepit Western town left much to be desired. I kept thinking how the initial owners from decades ago would probably be devastated to see the place in ruins now. The cabin itself was okay (as soon as I confirmed there were no bed bugs). Not sure why the twin beds were on the floor. I had the worst sleep here, though. Between the bed and the noisy people yelling until 3am outside, it was miserable. Do yourself a favor and just go stay in a nearby hotel. read more

We had our wedding here on October 8th 2016. The wedding PLANNING was a nightmare at first. The people we dealt with were awful... UNTIL we met Susan (because the previous coordinator was let go, thankfully). She was a godsend and such a joy to work with. I gave her a run for her money and she pulled through like a champ. Every issue I had they corrected it, she dealt with me changing my mind, making requests and even had her maintenance guy build me a CUSTOM arbor. ALL of our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our wedding was gorgeous and the catered food was delicious. The hotel rooms were under construction so they allowed the guests to book cabins for the same price as hotel (AWESOME!!). We didn't have hot water in a couple of the suites at first and they immediately took action and got us hot water without skipping a beat. I don't know why this place has so many bad reviews. We had an amazing experience. Things weren't always perfect but they always made it right in the end and that's what matters. Customer service!! The front desk was always a pleasure to deal with, waitstaff was awesome with the catering team, I asked for more towels and they brought them so fast. I mean seriously, this place is a hidden gem!!! I wish they would advertise more... just gorgeous. Water park was clean and SO much fun even for us 30year olds! I highly recommend this place for a family vacation, a wedding or an anniversary getaway. So much to do and we definitely plan on going back. 1. Walking from the Thoroughbred suites to the waterpark on the walkway connector from the the restaurant was ridiculous. This should be enclosed. Instead, imagine this, 30 degrees, wind blowing, it is slippery from the salt and melted snow, and you are soaking wet. 2. The pool water is either perfect or cold. 3. The front desk tried to change our rate at checkout. We were charged an additional $118. My wife caught the error and showed the confirmation email from her phone. Thank goodness she saved the email. It was explained to us that the rate must have changed in the time since we made our booking. (February) And their point was? 4. The slice of pizza, (pictured), sat in the same spot for 3 days straight and was still there when we left. I suspect it may have even been there longer than that. 5. Cleanliness: 1 star although the rooms were very nice and clean. 4 Stars for the room. 6. So it snowed last night. It's April 9th. Welcome to Michigan. I woke up from the sound of a shotgun going off outside our room at 5:54 AM or so I initially thought. After flying out of bed to witness the attack we were under and accidentally pulling my wife's hair and her resultant screaming, I seriously thought that this was the end for me. It had been a good life up to this point. My wife peeked timidly through the blinds and started cussing like a sailor. In between the bleeps, I heard something about a plow. They were plowing. A half inch of snow. The shotgun sound? That was the sound of the plow operators dropping the plow to push snow. This happened about once a minute until approximately 7 AM. 7. Bullies in the pool. Every day my kids would come to me and tell me that kids were bullying them in the lazy river. So I jumped in and rode around behind them and witnessed a couple of pre-teen girls flipping over the boys tubes. My son was also hit with tubes and pushed under water. What are the life guards doing??? I observed them. They were simply pacing their day away while looking at nothing. I know my son is a very good swimmer, but if your kids are not, it would be best to keep an observant eye on what is happening. 8. The river was shallow. Compared to all the other water parks we have been to in Michigan, I give this one the worst rating. All of us were scraped up from the river bottom. For years, it has been family tradition to go to an indoor waterpark during the kids spring break. Now we are thinking about other possibilities. read more

I would definitely recommend this resort if you are looking for a different yet fun experience. We stayed in the Back Forty Cabins and we LOVED it! Our four and two year old also had a blast. If you're looking for a rustic, clean, cabin that is cozy at the same time. This one is great! If you are looking for lots of amenities, and restaurants and shops that are walking distance, this probably isn't the place as there is only one restaurant, a bar style restaurant, one small gift shop and an indoor water park that you can reach by shuttle, the closest chain restaurant, fast food, or sit down restaurant is a good 20-30 mins south or north of you are looking for a family owned establishment. The restaurant is pretty pricey, with a steak running from mid twenties to mid thirties depending on your choice, but the food is really good! There also is a lack of WiFi, but you are in a cabin and that is part of the experience. I'm giving this resort 4 out of 5 stars only because the food was very pricey, some of the stuff in the water park didn't work, and the wave pool didn't produce waves the entire time we were there. I also didn't enjoy the well water, but that is probably part of the experience also. I did really love the full size jacuzzi that could fit two to three people in it depending on their size, the cute loft that our kids slept in, and how you felt like you were camping. Overall I would recommend this resort. They also have other options that you can stay in other than a cabin on their website. They also have horseback riding and other outdoor activities that we didn't partake in, but when driving by, it looked like the children and people riding the horses were having a blast! read more

To say I had poor hotel experience would be understatement. First of all try and find the Double jj resort hotel, on Water street because there is no Double jj resort, it's really the Double jj Frontier. Next finding front desk or lobby of the hotel, sorry it's called Entrance, and that's under one of the water slid tubes. Next make sure you bring food with you because your going stand in line to check in for about 30 minutes. Next comes the room, we stayed at the lofts and the room simuliar to a poor motel 6 room. Run down would be a fair statement. Now your goinrg emember the price of these rooms, and that will get your blood going. There's more but, I think I've made my point, there's other places to spend your money read more

My girlfriend and I keep coming back to this place thinking someday the service will be better. We are in the dining room at the moment, our waitress is awful. We had the manager come over to us several times to check up on us. As I look around and listen, other people are having the same issues. Slow service, the hostess is nowhere to be found and people are waiting to be seated, extremely long wait time to get the bill and people are walking around trying to figure out where to pay because the waitress is somewhere, nobody knows where. This is something else, I've never seen anything like it and it's not even that terribly busy? Any competent wait staff can handle this. Double JJ needs a serious employee overhaul. And to top it all off we were overcharged for our meal. What a night! read more

This could be the beginning of something big. For lack of a better description, the Double JJ ranch is a dude ranch with an indoor swim park at it's core. While the swim park is on the small side, it's a good place to take small kid who want to get wet. It was surprisingly crowded. The accommodations that are on the property were nice, but had strange problems like doors that were hung so bad they wouldn't stay closed. Along with the swim park there is horseback riding and a small western town to investigate and loads of activities to keep you busy while you're there. The Double JJ Ranch had hard time in the past few years and went through a bankruptcy and was bought out by a company that is trying to restore it to it's glory and beyond. I think they've got a good start and they are already drawing lots of guests. The planned additions of more lodges could turn the ranch into a major western Michigan entertainment center. read more

I feel like a broken record here considering most of the reviews for this place are for Electric Forest Festival and not just the ranch itself - but I've been here two years in a row for EF and both times the experience has quite literally changed my life. The venue is HUGE and beautiful, out in the middle of no where with a pristine lake, pine forest, wooden ranch structures, and just general amazingness all around. I know the ranch has a small in-door waterpark attached somewhere but I've never been. All and all I'd love to come back to Double JJ and stay for a weekend getaway of horseback riding and hiking - but I will be back for EF every year until I can't rave anymore! :) Final Verdict: GO TO ELECTRIC FOREST! It is hands down the most amazing, beautiful, magical music festival is the US. read more
