Just returned from an overnight stay at Double JJ ranch with my daughter. I was slightly apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews but I wanted to maintain an open mind and I'm so glad I did. From making our reservations with Devon to check out, I felt the level of professionalism was top notch. We reserved one of the cabins in the back forty and it was immaculately clean and the temperature was nice and warm. There was a wonderfully deep jacuzzi tub that filled quickly with the hottest water you cared to add. The activities for the Octoberfest were few on the Friday night but that's was ok. The horses were absolutely breathtaking! The leaders were so patient and helpful. The only mishap wasn't their fault but I overreached my ability and ended up hurting my back requiring the ride to be halted until they could come pick me up. Hailey and the other ranch hands handled this with sincere care and concern for my wellbeing. Unfortunately we had to cancel our ride for the next day due to my injury. :-( The bed was rather comfortable and I was able to sleep fairly well. In the morning, we went to the Sundance restaurant for the breakfast buffet which was actually very nice. Unlike a lot of free buffets where you get powdered eggs and rubbery sausage, this was so good! Freshly scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy etc.... I hope to come back to the ranch someday and remember I'm not 20 anymore and just go for a nice walking ride in the beautiful grounds. Take a chance on this wonderful place! This review is for the water park only. We had a group of 4 adults, 3 year old and a 1.5 year old. Everyone had a great time. It was easy to split up and have the kids do their thing for a quick minute with 1 adult and the other 3 ride some rides. Only 1 ride the 3 year old couldn't do but he was ok with it. 1.5 year old loved the little slides and lazy river. It was easy to get to, staff was great and loved the fact that everything and everyone plays into the dude ranch theme. We will be back to try the golf course, steakhouse and overnight accommodations. read more

The water was great temperature this time was 85 water temp. Great times as always. A tip for the owner though is have someone put a net above outdoor hot tub as big ice chunks will injure someone when they fall down into the hot tub. Scary incident narrowly avoided. read more

Spent the weekend at Double JJ Resort was not happy room was not ready at 4 pm it was 545 pm. The rooms were not connected to water park we had to go out in cold weather to get to room. We ordered food they never gave me a a buzzer so got cold pizza that they took to back . Was no I'm sorry or how can I make this up to you. So the next day ordered more over priced food they gave me a buzzer that never went off . Had to hang out for our next hotel room got it after 5 the room was poorly cleaned chips on floor. If this is the best they have to offer no thanks Lisa Dunton I only gave one star didn't even want to do that. read more

My parents were overcharged twice on a credit card and management would do nothing about it. They had to close down the credit card as well as make a Better Business Bureau complaint. Their response was that we did not pay for our lot since we stayed an extra day, but it was taken directly out of our checking. for the extra lot which in fact they did. They stated they were not with my parents when they checked out and switched our credit cards but we were so they have completely lied to the BBB but we have proof. Management hung up on my mom twice and would not answer her calls screening who was calling. Plus our lot was filled with trash when we got there and will never be back. We were also charged $90 for 2 hours of swimming. Horrible rude customer service. I wonder how many people they have ripped off in the past. read more

This resort is on life support. I don't see how it can stay in business even another year. What is so sad is that 15-20 years ago we used to come with our family when newly married and we had a blast. So much to do, such a fun resort. We were excited to finally bring our own kids, and it was such a disappointment. All of the fun things (aside from horseback riding and a "nice-for-the-kids" indoor waterpark) are gone. The old west town is all closed down except for one ice cream shop and a sorry "gift shop". The dance hall where we had line dancing is gone (only used for large events now), the shooting range is gone, the beach is gone, the "chuck wagon" eatery is gone, and the place is a literal ghost town. Only 2 overpriced options for dining. The outdoor waterpark is kind of a joke - one pool, one kiddie pool, and one big slide that only runs on weekends due to staffing. Nobody told us that. Tried to schedule tee times for the golf course and after 8 phone calls and visiting the pro shop no one even pick up the phone or responded. My husband and his friend just showed up at 7:30am one morning hoping to golf, and were told that they couldn't golf without a tee time! They ended up having going off the resort to golf. Our party of 10 had multiple problems from the time we checked in until we left. Bathrooms didn't lock in our room. Getting towels and toilet paper took multiple calls. We needed 3 nights and they only had 2 available when we booked, so when we arrived we asked if they had another room we could stay in for our final night. We were assured by the manager that we could get an additional night in a comparable room for the same price. So we didn't look anywhere else in the area for a room, thinking we had one there. Well, when it came time to switch rooms on our last day, after multiple phone calls, the manager had never reserved a room for us and they gave away their last available room. They did offer to split our party up for the last night - but for $900 for one night! Laughable! We declined, and ended our trip early. Save your money. Everything is overpriced but nothing is what it used to be. Very sad. I hope someone invests in this place and can restore it. It was such a fun place years ago. We went to Double JJ on the "off season" (after Labor Day). Pretty much everything was closed up except the golf course, the indoor water park was open weekends only, and only one restaurant was open. We went to ride and didn't care about the other amenities so that was fine for us. We stayed in the back 40 in one of the small cabins. The hot tub in the room was just big enough for two and the place was super clean. The staff was absolutely fantastic. We dealt with the front desk staff, barn staff, the cleaning staff and everyone was very helpful. We brought our own horses and the barn staff took excellent care. They really went the extra mile and made sure the hay bags and extra water buckets we brought were kept full. The hay was very high quality so I was glad I didn't bother to haul in our own. The trails were fantastic. There was a mix of woods, fields, and orchards to ride through. We managed to be out 4 hours and not loop. The ground was nice and sandy so even after a hard rain the trails were dry with very few puddles. I wish they had trail maps though because we did get lost a couple of times. Luckily our Phones got us back on track, but I'm sure we missed out on a few areas. Now on to the bad. While we were at Double J there was a freak rain that basically flooded that part of the state. Even a local movie theater had flooding inside that is how bad it was. The barn that the horses were stabled in had so much water that there was a river running through the stalls. The horses were stalled in an approximate 12x25 area (stall and pasture total). The stalls and pasture were an absolute muck pit. We stayed a week after the rain and the stalls never dried out. The only time the horses got out of the muck was when we rode or hand grazed them. I think things would have been OK if the horses had a chance to be turned out someplace dry for part of the day, but the Double J doesn't have the facilities for that. A couple days before we intended to leave both horses came down with a terrible case of rain rot. We left a day early so we could start treating the horses and Double J was fantastic about changing our stay and not trying to get us to pay for the extra day. read more

I stayed in a log home, unit 209. It was nice for a log cabin in a campground. Had a nice upstairs bedroom, hot tub, flat panel. We did read a lot of bad reviews before we showed up, which made us apprehensive. We Were pleasantly surprised. We talked with Susan the owner and she took great care of us. Double JJ Ranch is a great place if you are looking for a rustic setting with lots of outdoor activities. You have to be ready for some dirt as it is a campground. In my opinion, you have to set your expectations accordingly. My family and I are typically Ritz Carlton-ish people and enjoy the best accommodations. We set our expectations on the fact that we were going to a camping environment and that did the trick.. Lodging was good, clean enough, rustic Horseback riding, horses and horse-staff were all great. Indoor waterpark is awesome Pool with slide is great The tavern at the campground is fun and has good burgers and cold beer. Our kids (19 of them) had the time of their lives. The parents (20 of us) had plenty of adult fun together with our kids. The staff is friendly and tries its best for you... I recommend the Double JJ for any family look to have fun in the outdoors read more

My boyfriend and I just returned from 8 days at the Double JJ, and we had a great time. We purchased the Horseback Riding package which included our accommodations plus two rides per day (one for each of us). We planned to stay in the Lofts, but got upgraded to a cabin which was awesome. The floor plan was sort of like the Little House on the Prairie but with a Jacuzzi in the master bedroom. It was by no means swanky, but it was just right for us. We timed our visit perfectly because the summer crowd wasn't there yet. This meant that almost every ride we took ended up being just us and our guide. We rode everyday, and got to know everyone pretty well. The guides (a.k.a. "wranglers") clearly enjoy their jobs, and we learned so much from them all. The downside of being there before the ranch is geared up for summer is that a lot of things aren't open. That actually worked out great because it forced us to discover some local restaurants. We found lots of good, down home cooking including some amazing rhubarb pie at the Trailside Restaurant in nearby New Era, Michigan. The restaurants, water park, and other activities did get going just before we left. They're all pretty decent, and the water park is a lot of fun. It's true that their front desk staff is a little quirky. They got mixed up about our riding schedule, and our bill was itemized weirdly. However, they were very friendly and eventually worked to make sure our stay was a good one. All in all, the Double JJ is a great time at a great price. read more

Like a few of the other reviews I came to Double JJ Ranch/Resort for Electric Forest Festival and had one of the best weekends of my entire life! Since this reviews for the actual area and not the amazing festival, I'll try to focus. The landscape is beautiful. Green everywhere you look, whether it be in gigantic lawns or in the thousands of trees that make up the forest. We camped at the festival for 3 nights and 4 days so camping at the Ranch/Resort would be awesome, especially since it would be more peaceful and secluded without tens of thousands of people all around you. I was up here in the middle of the summer and the weather was great. Low 90's during the day and upper 60's at night. I can only imagine how great the weather is during other parts of the years. Also, an awesome waterpark and lake on the premise. Tons of things to do, great weather and amazing scenery, what's not to love!?! read more

I wouldn't even give them 1 star, booked my reservation only to have them cancel it on me, showed up after a two hour drive with 5 adults and 5 kids only to be told it's cancelled. Then their website said room accommodates 4-6 people, so we wanted 2 rooms and they said it wasn't possible because it's only 4 people max, well then please specify your website and or learn to follow what you advertise. From the outside, the resort looks a little run down, but once you step inside - WOW!!! Beautiful!! Amazing waterpark, amazing food (especially at the Sundance Saloon!) and amazing people! The steak at the Sundance Saloon was worth it - as was dessert. The bartender knows how to mix a drink, too (no pre-mixed drinks here!). You don't feel out of place in jeans and a t-shirt or dressed up. Definately a "come as you are" location. We took our daughter here for her birthday and it was worth EVERY PENNY! It did look like the place could use an update, some things were broken, a stairwell was closed off and looked pretty broken down - I think it used to go to the arcade. For the price we paid for 2 days was absolutely insane for what you get. First off the "outdoor" water park that is included in your stay is a JOKE! It's not a water park at all. The big pool was green and the one water slide they had was shut down. We then find out we had to pay an additional $30 a person to use the indoor water park. When we called they told was that the water parks were included. When my kids where hungry they had only 1 restaurant to eat at. That was the steak house. When you are in a water park you are in a swim suit so you can't go there to eat. All the pop machines were "out of order" so we couldn't even buy water for us. The Pony Express outside of the water park was also closed all day. Therefore we had to leave the park and go to a freaking gas station just to buy bottles of water! What a fu**ing joke. Night time they have nothing to do. We walked around to see all they had on the website but the basketball court was full of weeds, the shuffle boards were all weeds, and the playground was ok. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. It's very very ran down. Wish they would put some money back into it. It could be a good little getaway. read more

Possibilities. 5 star. Execution 1 star. Rv park is a mess. Pulled in and didn't see any type of registration and had to drive the Rv with a towed car down two miles to the hotel registration area. Waiting in line ten minutes while one of the five people behind the desk helped just one person in front of us. Went into store and sat there for 10 minutes waiting for anyone to help us. Nope just one girl trying to serve 20 people ice cream. Lost business. The pool is dirty. The hot tub is not hot and bubbles don't work. It really bothers me to see the potential this place has but is not executing it at all. read more

Reserved a cabin three weeks in advance for a family party. Arrived ahead of check-in and were told to wait until 4:00 p.m. Came back at 4:00 and were told we had to wait half an hour for the cabin to be cleaned. Came back twice more and were told the same thing. Over an hour later we were told that it still had not been cleaned. The cleaning crew could not be found. We were offered a refund (another cabin could not be found). We drove back home very disappointed that Double JJ had ruined our trip. Will never return. read more

We were very disappointed with the lack of customer service our whole family received during our stay at Double JJ Resort. We had four generations of our family together who spent over $1000 on gift cards prior to our stay. We had postponed our reservations in 2020 because of COVID restrictions and were assured on more than one phone call that our gift certificates would be honored. However, when we got to the resort in May 2021 the staff denied our certificates claiming they were "expired." We talked to multiple managers but there was nothing they were willing to do claiming that they were instructed to no longer honor the certificates. We were extremely dissatisfied in the dishonesty of the business practices and inconsistencies of Double JJ Resort. The confirmation we had received when rescheduling of our stay due to COVID restrictions was false and unethical. We were misled and as a result lost money to a very poorly managed resort. I would NOT recommend staying at Double JJ Resort to any of my family or friend. The waterslides being closed was discouraging but we understood there were COVID restrictions that had to be followed. The lack of cleanliness of the waterpark was not excusable. There was lots of debris flowing in the pools while we were there. The Wooden Nickel Arcade was nearly a joke. Over half of the games were "out of order" or not working properly. This again resulted in a loss of money to paying customers. The Back Forty western town and RV park were lacking much needed maintenance. The entire town was abandoned in appearance and needed upkeep. Nothing beside the horse barn were open when we stayed which took away from our experience. The kids play structure was damaged and needing a refinishing. One of the slides was cracked and unsafe for children to even slide on. The campground was poorly organized with the fire rings being moved all around campsites. This left messy charcoal deposits in multiple spots in our campsite. We also found several nails in our campsite which must have been from someone burning pallets. We were also disappointed that the campground did not have any trash dumpster. Several people just left their trash bags around the shower house because the lack of amenity. We asked multiple staff members where we could dump our trash at the campground and were told to bring it to the water park service entrance behind the building over 2 miles away. read more

This was our family Spring Break at Double J - will be our last. We went in 2014/15 and very positive experience. We had two suites to the tune of $2,100. Rooms promised at 4:00pm - rooms not ready - finally get in by 6:00pm. We had 9 very bored, tired cranky children. Although we brought food for dinner we ended up spending a fortune to feed them at the snack bar. Rooms are lovely, clean, kid friendly and great for families. Full size appliances and we bring most of our food - heat up ready. It helps with the cost and the overall coordination of so many people. Arcade is a joke - more machines don't work than work and prize selection is very poor. A good arcade would have made our wait for a room more bearable. Prize selection was so poor the preteens left with their ticket slips because there was nothing to buy. Pool is clean and safe for the younger set with three nice slides for the bigger kids - if they are all working. They weren't. Also the water cannons have been a big hit in the past - none of those were working either. Three day vacation planned - pool lost it's luster to the older kids after a day because the non working slides. 14 year olds can only do the lazy river so many times. KIds, who have been here before, noted that the number of tubes for the slides was way down this year. Only one of the 4-people tubes - in the past 6 or 8 of them. Ate in the main restaurant and the food was pricey but delicious, served quickly and they were absolutely not stressed at the size of our party. Other entertainment - there is a electric bull and bounce house (although the bounce house is at your own risk as no supervision). In the past there has been planned activities for the 10 and under group that helped keep everyone entertained. We enjoyed that feature but it was dropped this year - leaving a hole in our entertainment menu. Ended up spending too much time watching videos - could do that at home for free. Housekeeping - the room was squeaky clean when we go there. Cooking & eating utensils are provided. However we were given 1 dishwasher tablet for 3 days, our trash was never emptied and only one other trash bag provided. Housekeeping is done only every other day - which we knew - but then never came and did ours at all. Had to hand wash dishes - ok at home but not so happy to do so on vacation. Jacuzi spa tub. Nice & clean - until we turned on the jets, then it shot out black mold. Lot of air in the water pipes so may be first time they used these rooms this season. Staff - I give staff an A+. They were courteous, kind, friendly, smiling and helpful. We weren't the only ones having a bad experience and they handled it with grace. Although there is no other place with as good of room accommodations for our large family when we get together for a vacation break - the entertainment level at Double J has gone way down and we won't be back. read more

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... I am very disappointed after staying at the DoubleJJ for spring break this year(2017). I brought my wife and son here about five years ago. At that time it was a little under construction, but I was super impressed. All the cool things there were to do and the buzz in the air from the positive energy of the staff to the fresh air northern location. We stayed in the condos back then and they were amazing. The staff was amazing as well. Five years and new owners later... not so great. I had high hopes for this place for our 2nd visit b/c I brought other families this time and told them how fun and nice the double jj was. The Double JJ made me look bad. Despite that, I will give a fair balanced review of the positive and the negative. The Good - * The Log home that we stayed in (in the back 40) was very beautiful, comfortable, and roomy. Complete with master suite in the loft which has a private bathroom/shower, an in-room jacuzzi, and an in room fireplace. The main level also has a fireplace, full kitchen, cathedral ceilings and more. * The Horseback riding staff, while few in numbers, were good pleasant, knowledgeable and friendly employees. Our guide seemed very new and a little unsure, but was still kind and capable. * The Breakfast buffet which was included in our package was decent. It was busy but we didn't wait long for a party of eight to be seated each day. There was a good variety (though no bacon?) and the biscuits were great. * The smoothie stand inside the activity center is fantastic. The folks running the stand need to teach everyone else at the resort what good customer services is. Smoothies were yummy too. * The waterpark is actually cool and has a good variety of things to do: water polo, volleyball, slides, climbing, lazy river, water falls, hot springs etc. The Bad - * All the bad reviews on yelp about long lines and poor service and mixups are totally legit. We arrived about an hour early hoping to perhaps check in early. Well over an hour later we got our room/cabin. However, they couldn't find the keys so they had us drive to the home and wait for the maintenance crew to open the room for us. When we finally did get our keys, only 1 out of 7 keys worked. We had them re-keyed the next day and still they did not work. * Poor maintenance - Besides the key fiasco, there were many more signs of poor upkeep. Our smoke alarm in the cabin had a dying battery and consistently chirped about every 30 seconds the entire time we were there. I called and asked for someone to fix it at least 6 times and each time they said "we will send someone..." nobody ever showed. I would have changed it myself, but it was at the top of the vaulted two-story ceiling and was not reachable. Also, the pool/waterpark has many water cannons and pumps etc. that used to work and were fun for kids. Most of these no longer work. The arcade also had very many out of order games. These were not fixed at all during our stay. * Poor management and training - the front desk help had a universal saying..."Today is my first day". This was quite alarming. The desk had seven workers. One was a 'manager'. The other six were motivated and friendly, but did not know what to do in most cases. Nobody was teaching these employees anything. The manager simply did everything and complained about it. One of the days of our stay I went to the desk in the morning to reserve horseback riding in the afternoon for my group. The women looked on the computer and said sorry we don't have room for eight. I asked if we could do two groups of four at different times. She said no sorry I can't. I then called from my room later and spoke to someone else who told me they had slots for three at different times. That worked for me but bugs me that the manager didn't tell me that earlier. * Long lines to get into the waterpark, where there is not a chair to be found so good luck if you aren't spending your entire time in the pool. * Arcade prizes are very very limited to a handful of toys. No candy, no fun items just empty shelves with literally a few options. Kids thought this sucked. * A looooong wait to get drinks at the bar and a looooong wait to order food from the walk up grill between the arcade and the bar. Not ideal for vacationers. The ugly - * I heard several other guests that were very angry and had to wait several hours (even more than us) to get checked in. We were told by the employees that there was a large college frat/sorority party the night before that caused extensive damage and required significant cleanup. Imagine how happy we were the next day when we learned that our new neighbors were another college sorority/frat party... not very family friendly. * Waterpark cleanliness - poor. so disgustingly many soaked dirty towels on the floor and the toilets which were always covered in poop splashed everywhere, were just awful. We came to Double J a year ago and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately our second visit was horribly disappointing. The water park is in poor condition and they only had one tube to use on the large four person slide. Our room wasn't ready at the 4pm check in time at 6:30pm, still no room, and then we were informed that the room we booked two months in advance was no longer available, and they had no eta on when another room would be. We were left with three exhausted, disappointed children. read more

We booked this very dated suite within a resort using Airbnb. Unfortunately they are also using several other sites and we ended up paying about $140 more than it was listed on other sites. Check in was awkward and hard to understand as they were having a late night dance party in the lobby. The suite had zero parking so we had to haul our luggage from an upper parking lot down to the suites. Upon entering the suite we realized that it was poorly maintained as there was exposed drywall and large cracks and gashes in the paint. Dead bugs littered the edges of the walls and window seals. The jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom had hair in it which was pretty gross. One of the cabinets in the kitchen had a broken hinge and would nearly fall off if you tried to open it. The furnishings including the mattress were walmart quality and did not reflect the $500/night price tag. The walls were paper thin and you could hear nearly everything outside and in the hallway. All in all it was a poor visit and I would not recommend staying here. read more

Resort???? I'm unsure how anyone could attach the word resort to this place. We had fun at the water park, but due to them closing at 8pm and our schedule, we didn't get to use it for long($25 each for adult, $20 each kid). Restaurant service was nice, however multiple people in our group had Luke warm to cold food. The suite we stayed in was run down and in need of new furniture, paint, mattresses, vertical blinds( half of which were missing in the main sitting area)drinkable water, and someone to remove the spider webs, and bird nest that had taken over our deck to our suite. We had to call the second night for towels to be brought to our suite, somehow housekeeping forgot to stop by to clean and fluff our pillows...When we checked out I brought up these issues we had, I did hear an apology, I was told the manager was going to call,, the manager hasn't yet. We were not offered any money off of our bill or any discounts for these problems. I figured the least I could do is post our experience a long with some pics...Thanks read more

The cabin was nice, but the jacuzzi disn't get hot water. The orange juice my daughter drank for breakfast had a congealed yeasty slug thing in the bottom of it. The staff kept giving conflicting information regarding pricing, dress code, etc. Lots of potential, but even more dissappointment. read more

My family stayed in a log cabin home on the Back Forty. The cabin was a little outdated, but it had all the stuff that we actually needed for a nice trip (clean beds, working showers, and a table to play games around). We had to call for maid service, but they did show up and replaced towels and made beds and such when we asked. It was pretty dead when we were there, at some points we felt like the only ones at the resort. The food options are limited, so definitely prepare ahead with other options just in case. The pizza is good at the restaurant near the waterpark. Did not go to the waterpark because it definitely seemed targeted towards families with younger kids (my group didn't have young kids). Very bummed that saloon closed and that they don't do the rodeo anymore. Both golf courses were fantastic. The Thoroughbred was very tricky (to the point that the beginners in the group were not having as much fun) with stunning views. Grand View was cheaper, easier, and also very beautiful. They have a hole where the green is an island, so that was pretty cool. The riding was amazing! We went for a 1 hour group trailride that was walk only (which was great) and then took a 2 hour private advanced trailride where they let us canter a ton through beautiful scenery ( I definitely recommend this). The wranglers were friendly and accommodating. The earlier the trail ride the better because the horses are less tired. Overall this place is no where near as lively as it used to be, but my family still has an awesome time when we go. "Resort" is a generous term, but if you don't mind roughing it a little then you are good to go. read more

Very understaffed/untrained in basic hospitality and in total the place was not well kept up in most every area and staff maintenance has seemed to have given up. Most of the fun water levers and toys for kids looked like they had been broken for a while and in some areas semi removed. Couldn't find any open tables or seating. One staffer bless her heart was trying to man all 3 water slides at the same time running from each to let the next in line down.... Watched one of the life guards at the bottom move his chair in the corner where he could not see the slide so he could hide on his phone and listen to his air pods. The arcade looks fun l but we lost half of our tokens as most of the games are not marked out of order and they make you walk so far and wait in a pretty decent line to try to recover your coins. Rooms are nice in size but walls and floors were paper thin and we could hear people's conversations word for word from other rooms and we had a ln amateur lacrosse team or something staying above this slamming the ground so much the we had to remove the plates and cups from the cabinets they were rattling so hard. This started at dinner time 10pm and started back promply at 6 am. My advise, look elsewhere. read more

We came here for my grandparents 50th anniversary with the entire family. We stayed in one of the log homes out in the back 40 and it had enough space to comfortably hold all 10 of us. Having our own kitchen was a blessing and we enjoyed being able to do a wide variety of activities that everyone was able to enjoy as we have a wide variety of ages traveling with us. My grandma came here in the 60's and was excited to share this place with all of us. The younger ones enjoyed the pool, waterpark and activities. The adults enjoyed golfing. Everyone loved the trail rides and the youngest two loved the pony rides. We came here for the horses and loved it. Matt, who took us out, was great as well as all of the staff working with the horses. Of everything, the trail ride was the highlight of our trip and wish we had more time here to go on a longer ride. We are hoping to come back next year. read more

Double JJ stands for Double No-No. Do not stay unless you are punishing your horrible kids or spouse. Bad service. Bad booze selections. Filthy everything else. Some details if you haven't already moved on(which you should). We we arrived we had trouble finding the reception as the building was not well marked and ended up circling around and getting trapped by dumpsters blocking the road. When we mentioned this to the staff they knew and clearly didn't care. When we checked in they didn't offer us any information about activities or ice or where breakfast was served. Nothing. The parking was a total cluster. There's all of 10 spots outside the underground parking garage and about the same amount inside of it. We basically made our own parking spots and luckily no one seemed to care. Then when we got to our rooms(we stayed in the "calamity Jane" thoroughbred suites), 2 of our 4 room Keys wouldn't work. We had 2 rooms on the opposite ends of the hallway and one of them was supposedly ADA compliant, which we requested in advance for my paraplegic brother, but they looked exactly the same. When I went down to ask them if there was a difference between our rooms, they insisted that one had a foldout bench and grab bars in the shower. So I walked back to our room thinking I was crazy to miss this detail considering I'm trained to notice such things, only to find that there were no grab bars or bench. Then I called the desk from my room(because it's a solid 5 minute walk to desk), and the woman told me they don't have any shower benches...long story short, over an hour later they called me back and apologized because we weren't in the right room. They do have an ADA room and ultimately they moved us to it. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing at this resort. Later we ordered pizza, and despite what we had been told by the front desk earlier, the person insisted we could not have it delivered to room and we needed to come down to pay and pick it up. While down at the bar, we heard a customer complaining that he's been waiting for 20 mins and the sole employees response was "please, somebody fire me" which was funny but also not a good look for the establishment. Breakfast buffet was gross. Cold food. They had run out of most items despite it being 9:30 am. what was left was not edible. The fruit was even bad. The view over the golf course was nice. The room hadn't been updated in probably 40 years. The hotel rooms were ugly and not welcoming. It's the kind of carpeting you don't want to walk on with bare feet. TV's were the original flatscreens that were not watchable. Snow on every channel. Spiders galore that size of crabs. And if you want to sleep, forget it. There were people and kids running down the hallways until the wee hours of the morning. Not kidding. Both nights we were there. I couldn't wait to leave this morning. read more

This place has so much potential. As an executive of a fellow service organization, I know the solution. The management simply needs to get out of the office chair and walk around the resort. If they did, they would observe how inconsistent, unprofessional, and unmotivated the staff are. There is no culture of customer service here. It is a bunch of high school aged kids running around unsupervised. The start. My room in the thoroughbred suites was fantastic. Clean and well furnished. A value for a 3 bedroom suite compared to great wolf lodge. Our 1st visit to the water park... it was a little difficult to find the entrance from the Thorobreds suites. Signage was lacking. Me and my family wandered around a little after taking the bridge over. We saw a water park staff member sitting down eating ice cream. She did not help us even though it was obvious we were looking for the water park entrance. We had to walk over to the bar to get directions. We had to take the stairwell directly behind the young lady who wouldn't help us. I saw her laughing into her ice cream as we had to walk all the way back and go through the double doors. The lifeguards here do not take their jobs seriously. They were all goofing off joking with each other, not paying attention to the kids. We witnessed lots of curse words around young children. For example, a supervisor threw a "dummy" in the lazy river for a lifeguard drill. The young man was not paying attention and the doll was in the water for a good minute before he spotted it. Once he finally did, he yelled out "f##k" in front of several small kids and reluctantly jumped in. The lifeguards spent more time flirting and goofing off with each other than watching the swimmers. The bathrooms in the water park were gross. Paper all over the floors and dirty toilets and urinals. The bar and grill in the water park was closed due to staffing. The hot tubs and big water slide were closed due to a mudslide. This was not disclosed to us when we checked in and they offered no discount due to it. The Ice cream parlor was closed but several of the lifeguards went upstairs and got ice cream. They ate it at the water park front desk in front of all the water park guests who weren't allowed to buy any. My kids were confused. I could go on but don't want to. I simply can't recommend this place. Go to kahlahari or great wolf lodge. read more

This place is ridiculous. I have been to a fair amount of resorts similar to this one (tacky ranch themes, poor restaurants, middle of nowhere, etc) but this one is by far the worst. Aside from the ridiculous room rates, their customer service is deplorable. When our room key didn't work late one night, we first called the front desk. Nobody answered. So I walk down to the main building to find someone to help. The main building was locked, and nobody was there. Wonderful!! Looks like we have to scale a wall to the balcony, pick the lock and break into the room!! After that wonderful experience we moved over to the "Lofts". If you are staying here, please be prepared to walk a quarter mile to your building along a dirt road. Oh and there are no lights to help you on your way, so I hope you enjoy wandering through the woods in pure darkness! I will admit I was there "out of season" but my stay ensured that I will never be there during their peak operating times. Double two thumbs down ( =4 thumbs down) for the Double JJ. read more

I stayed at the resort last weekend, my suite was lovely and very clean. The first night I had dinner at the Sun Dance Grill Bar, food and drinks were great. The service was prompt and she was attentive. The next night I went back to the Grill. My experience was the complete opposite from the first night. I left the Grill and went to Rustler's Roost hoping for better serve. I was thrilled to see Amy G there!!! She knew me and what I wanted to drink, remembered our conversation from the night before...now that is customer service! They need to hire many more employees like Amy G and the reviews would sky rocket. read more

I had such high expectations after receiving a gift card here for Christmas. When trying to reserve a cabin, I was put on hold for 45 minutes, transferred to a voicemail x4 and never given a direct answer about my reservation. The manager never called me back and I randomly received a confirmation email even though it was incorrect with the number of adults/children. Regardless, we arrived and checked in. They still didn't know how to apply the gift card and I was waiting for quite some time. After we got to the cabin- I continued to have high hopes. It was beautiful inside although the exterior needed some upkeep. Our family loved the cabin- lots of fun. We enjoyed the water park although it was not totally open (with no explanation). We enjoyed that and were looking towards a good meal, we went to Roosters- which is not something I would recommend. The burgers were clearly frozen patties and the bacon tasted microwaved. The pizza was the highlight of the meal. We also had breakfast at Sundance and I would not suggest even my worst enemy to eat that breakfast. Take the time to drive somewhere else to get your morning meal... seriously. I was sadly disappointed in everything EXCEPT for the fun we had in the water park, the cool cabin and the wonderful trail ride we had in the morning. There are some amazing things that could happen here- the structure is strong but the customer service and quality of food sincerely lack. read more

This is a great concept, but lack of execution. We stayed in one of the suites which has been remodeled and is fantastic! The grounds and property are truly amazing! That's the good, now for the bad. The food is average at best and the grounds are in desperate needs of a good cleaning! The water park is nice but in desperate need of some TLC. Our room was great. The waterpark provided a fun place for the cousins to have a blast together. We had a significant overcharging incident and the manager went out of his way to fix it and very is our money back immediately. So far, even with a little glitch, a great stay. Our last breakfast there, we were treated with thinly veiled disdain and contempt by one of their servers. I'm black and my husband is white. She basically was trying to figure out if we were trying to get the meal without paying. It was humiliating and left us feeling sad. We told management and he made excuses for the server. He didn't leave us with the feeling that he would not do anything about it. We left with the feeling that we didn't really want to come back even though we absolutely enjoyed the rest our stay. read more

We were there for a family reunion we had cabin #207 in the back 40. It was really run down, the floorboards on the deck were loose and a tripping hazard along with the water/sewer pipes sticking up out of the ground at the end of ramp leading up to the porch, this is all before you get into the overpriced cabin! Once in all the furnishings/bedding is very run down, cobwebs are everywhere (the kind with a serious dust buildup so you know they've been there for months/years), the ceiling fan in the loft is crusted with dust, the kitchen table was filthy (when we wiped it off the paper towel was black ) the blankets on the bed had holes, the pull out couch you could barely sit on it was so uncomfortable and it didn't have sheets for the pull out bed anywhere in the cabin. It seems like the cleaning crew comes in replaces towels/toilet paper and that it. The upstairs loft with the four beds was really cute for my 4 kids UNTIL about 11 pm when the BAT BUGS started crawling out of the wood work all over my kids beds and stuffed animals...they were not gonna sleep there! Since I had no data/service on my phone in the back 40 (t-mobile customers beware you will not have any service in the back 40 and there's no wi-fi the service part is t-mobiles fault AT&T and Verizon had service snd you could see a cell tower so what's up t-mobile??!!) we had to get in the car and drive up to the front desk where the guy on duty first tried telling us he had no other rooms he could put us in??!! After typing on the keyboard forever he finally got someone on the phone to ask and magically two rooms in the lofts became available, I specifically said "two rooms with two queen beds right cause we have 4 adults and 4 kids" and he says yes. Ok so it's 11:45 pm we go back up 8 peoples crap throw it back into the car drive back to the lofts (no elevators) put our stuff in the first room fine 2 queen beds go upstairs to check out the second room it's a king only a king no way my husband and I and 2 of our kids can fit in it. It's now 1am beyond frustrated I call the front desk no answer so I get in my car snd go back up to the front desk and there's a sign on the door stating after 1am no ones home you got a problem call 911. Ok now I'm seething with rage and pounding on the door even though at this point it's useless someone is gonna have to sleep on the filthy carpet and I realize hey I have two bars of service so I start writing this terrible review as it's my only recourse against this place at 2 am. Good thing I did because soon the police show up and the manager (who were there for something else) Brandi. She booked our family reunion and feels terrible about the situation and I truly believe she did she was very nice, she had to go home get a master key and did get us another room with two beds at this point it's 2:30 am. The next day she moved us to a three bedroom suite which was much nicer but still not cleaned well the ceiling fan which is at eye level when you walk in the upstairs hallway is just dust encrusted. We were comped for the first night but I feel we missed out on being close to everyone else down at the back 40 though I knew my kids would not stay at one of the cabins again after the bugs so I insisted on not staying in the back 40 again. I feel like this place has so much potential it was great space to host a family reunion but it's just SO run down and filthy esp for what they charge. I get it that it's hard to hire people now but you can't charge those prices for what you're selling! I also second what all the other reviews state about the dumpsters and garbages are overflowing on the whole compound the suites/back 40/campground area. The one bright spot was the restaurant with the view of the golf course, the view was amazing and the food was great and so was the waitress. Buyer beware and don't stay in cabin #207!! read more
