I was reading the recent reviews while my wife was checking us in and I have to admit that I was concerned about our pending overnight stay. Honestly, compared to the recent reviews our experience was in opposition to others regarding the attitude of the staff. We found the staff friendly, respectful and courteous. Although there is construction in process and there was a very large event taking place we were welcomed and treated well. I had no complaints until after we came back from dinner and I took a shower to discover some issues. The plastic shower head was missing the rubber on the on/off buttons. For the price of the room you would think they could replace/repair this. Then there was the black mold on the walls in the bathroom, which was a bit concerning as well. This is our first time visiting. Unfortunately, it was under renovation. The room itself was fine. However, the hallway (at least the floor we were on) was a mess. They must be replacing the carpet because there were paint all over the carpet. The there was a unbearable lemon scene in the hallway. The breakfast was fine. Typical basic breakfast buffet. This was seriously the worst Hilton experience I've ever had. As a Hilton Honors Gold Member, I am beyond disappointed in the hotel staff, management, and the corporate customer service. The first hotel attendant greeted my husband by complaining that he'd been at work too long. Another attendant by the name Andrea was condescending, rude, and provided incorrect information regarding our membership status. Despite booking a room on the executive floor, we were never able to access the executive lounge. To add insult to injury, the GM, Ryan Baker was unresponsive regarding all attempts to contact him. He even lied to the customer service reps to avoid speaking with me. Hands down, unacceptable. I'd NEVER stay here again. read more

A friend and I stayed here for a couple of nights and found it to be very comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room had a lot of things I appreciate in a hotel room and don't find everywhere. I appreciated that there were a lot of outlets for electric cords as well as charging cords. There was a coffee maker and creamer was included. The only downside was it was in a dark spot. The beds were comfortable. The A/C worked well and was adjustable. There were two trash cans-one in bathroom and one in the room including a section for re-cycling. There was a safe in a place that looked like a drawer. Everything was very clean. Parking had a cost but that was clear on the booking website. One parking floor is dedicated to the hotel and there is an elevator you can park near that takes you to the hotel lobby and is next to the regular hotel elevator which worked out well. The location was great. There is another "downtown" Doubletree but this one in the "legal district" was right downtown with easy walking to restaurants and not far from the riverwalk. They provide shuttle service that will take you and pick you up which was a nice benefit. There was plenty of good restaurants nearby. The front desk folks were generous with the cookies and we certainly enjoyed them. It's not a new hotel but was very functional for us. read more

I really wish I'd checked the reviews before checking in because this place is really just as awful as the other reviews state. The elevator buttons look like you'll get sick from touching them. Room 1 had what looked like an blood stain on the comforter and the devices were dusty and sticky. Tub didn't drain fast enough. Asked to move, and while to surfaces were a bit cleaner, the bed had to brownish stains. I was too tired to move again (very late check-in), but I would like my money back. Update: When I opened the toilet lid, there was a strange film floating on the top. When I tried to flush, the toilet would flush, it just swirled the water around. This place is GROSS. read more

Not the newest hotel in town but still nice. The hotel is quiet and the rooms are a nice size for a few nights. They have an executive floor and do some nice things for their Dimond folks. We call this place the cookie hotel. They did offer a chocolate chip cookie upon check-in. This place has comfy beds. Best I've slept on in a while. Breakfast was typical. They have a buffet. It's good enough. Parking was convenient. Right around the corner with an entrance right into the hotel. Don't forget to ask for the discount parking for $10. The location is manned, so it's a bit secure. In all, this place was not bad for a few nights. It seemed like most people that I intermingled with on this trip weren't very welcoming. This is an old downtown city hotel. It's not a brand new hotel at an interstate interchange, with that in mind, this is my review: 1. the staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. 2. Other reviewers are correct, the hotel does not own the parking. PARKING IS EXTRA. If you take your car out during your stay (and this is not valet parking), there is yet an ADDITIONAL EXTRA charge. 3. The hotel common areas, halls and elevator are generally in fair condition but somewhat run down in areas. 4. My door/ door latch is not installed correctly and looks like it was cut out of the frame and replaced (room 501). When "latched" the door still moves forward and backward 1/2"++. 5. The room was clean; there was a little dust behind the TV, mattress appears all but new, I could not find any "stains" reported in other reviews . I had no noise issues. Towels were a mix of brand new and older towels, again no "stains" as reported in other reviews. 6. The room appeared to be somewhat recently updated. Some of the furniture was a little beat up/ abused, with a door missing from the desk at the safe. A couple minor blemishes in the walls and damage to the vanity. Bathroom lighting and water pressure was very good. 7. Plenty of phone chargers. 1 at desk and 2 at bed. 8. AC worked well, I had the temp down to 67. 9. Ceiling looks brand new. 10. Bar closes at 10 but it appears everything else around here closes long before that. I did not try the executive lounge or breakfast. No issues, 3.5 stars. read more

This hotel is in need of a complete make over from start to finish. The ONE major positive is the staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Shout out to Leticia for taking good care of us. Tip of the hat to the house keeping supervisor (it's 5 o'clock somewhere).The rooms are good size and were clean. The furnishings are old and mostly functioning. The air conditioner was quiet and effent. The bathroom was small but the shower was good. The location is good if you are using the train. They do have a shuttle service, however, the driver was off during our four day stay. The workout room had good equipment, fresh towels and water. read more

Stayed one night on a road trip stop after 14 hrs of driving. The staff are so welcoming and the facility is downriwn yet close to the freeway for easy access. DO NOT! I repeat Do Not go to this hotel. The hotel is under construction. The elevator is half working. They want you to pay $15 for toast and a bagel for breakfast. The room didn't have a phone in it. There's paint all on the floor in the hallway the room don't have good lighting. You may have one lamp! There's a holes in the wall where they are still doing wiring! they have weird people coming to knock on your door. My sister and I didn't have a phone in our room so we had no way of calling downstairs to the front desk. They switch our room and we had a phone, but we had one lamp for lighting! I felt like I was at hotel Transylvania. I thought it was a joke. I thought I was being prank!!!! then on their website they say you can pay for parking we prepaid on the website!!!! we get there and you have to pay $12 every four hours for parking! I'm just trying to else from the hassle that my sister and I went through this weekend if you have a choice go somewhere else! The staff didn't want to change our room! It wasn't our fault that y'all are still constructing the hotel and that the room was a disaster! We had to call the corporate office. They had to get in touch with the district manager, and the district district manager told the hotel manager who changed our room immediately! I used e-check-in and arrived to find the elevator from the parking garage to the lobby, which was out of order (strike 1). I had to carry my luggage up two flights to find a working elevator to take me to my floor. I had an online meeting, so I went to my room and saw the Internet was out (strike 2). Thank goodness for cellular service! Throughout the meeting, I noticed the room was cold. Once the meeting was over, I went to check the thermostat. It was set at 89 degrees, but the room was at 63--broken thermostat (strike 3). After the hour-long meeting, I had to use the bathroom and turned on the light to find that just one of the two vanity lights was working (strike 4). So I started thinking, "When was the last time someone from the hotel staff was in this room?" "If it was recent, why didn't they take care of the issues?" Either way, it was clear they weren't paying attention. So, I reserved a room at another Hilton property and went to the front desk to request a refund and checkout. They were attentive enough and offered another room, but the damage was done. They assured me I wouldn't be charged, so I left and drove to another hotel, which was consistent with all my other experiences with the Hilton brand. It was pleasant, everything worked as expected, and the staff was helpful! Then, a month later, I found my card wasn't refunded and was treated to 11 minutes hold time with Hilton's call center to rectify it. If you like your hotels in disrepair, sorely lacking a facelift, and staffed by people who don't follow through on their promises, this is the hotel for you! DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL FOR ROOM BLOCKS On 1.13.25 I signed a contract with Doubletree for a room block for my daughter's wedding on Market Street in Wilmington Delaware. From the very start it was a major hassle dealing with anyone at that hotel to obtain information on room blocks, and once booked, obtaining a link for the room block. On MAY 19, 2025 I checked the hotel website through my link for the room block and discovered there were NO rooms available for the night of the wedding - JULY 12, 2025. NONE. I contacted my wedding planner and asked what the problem was. This is what she wrote back: "typically when I work with hotels they let us know when room blocks are close to selling out. It has been very hard working with the Doubletree. The woman in charge Amber has been out and they had no one local in sales. Shannon who we worked with originally was the general manager and now is no longer at that hotel." They told my wedding planner they were fully booked and had no more rooms available. Half of my guests have not RSVPed and there are no hotel rooms available. Very nice. So basically they ruined my daughter's wedding, as no one invited to the wedding is from Delaware. They all need a hotel. And even better, I was about to contract with Doubletree for the Executive breakfast on the morning of July 13 for 30 people. But honestly if they can't do a room block, there is no way they can do a breakfast. Stay away from this hotel. read more

I arrived late around 10pm, check in is normally around 3pm. Warm chocolate walnut cookie offered at check in, but that's not really my thing. Elevator and hallway smelled like cigarettes and are pretty worn looking. Room amenities were fine, coffee maker, mini fridge, updated outlets with USB charging ports, a safe, and an iron with ironing board. Some purified water was available in the room and a $5 bottle of Evian. Room was dusty on surfaces, around bed, and in the air conditioning/heater filters. One of the bath towels was a different design/pattern than the others and had a really off smell to it, maybe an older towel? The lotion on the counter top in the bathroom was only half full and I can't be positive the tamper seal was actually doing anything. I saw the restaurant bar open one night but was closed when I arrived. Bar supposed to open for breakfast at 6am, but it might be open and closed early because by 9am it was dark on both days of my stay. Breakfast is not complimentary, you have to pay for it!! Hotel location is near train station and Delaware College of Art and Design. Not too many places open for breakfast, most local eateries open around between 10:30am - noon. After I booked this hotel, getting a great deal on Priceline for $127 inclusive of tax I read abysmal reviews in several places including Yelp. I booked this place due to its proximity to the Opera House where I was seeing a show. It's literally across the street. Reviews I read said the staff was rude, rooms filthy & disgusting etc. Check in time was 3pm & I was checked in & given a room at 1:20 so that was a plus. The gentleman at the front desk was not chatty & only asked for ID & credit card & how many keys. He did not tell me my room number or where the elevator was, but I found it. Prior reviews were ticked off about parking, but I found it convenient attached to the hotel & for $11 for 24 hours that's a steal in a city! Elevator from garage goes to lobby. My room was on 7th floor. Elevator was fast. Elevator was not filthy as someone else has said. The bar/restaurant looked closed but apparently there was some room service available limited hours until 10pm. My room was clean. Huge tv worked. Bed was a bit soft, but good pillows. Decent view. Wallpaper was definitely buckling in places. Drain in sink was slow. Mirror frame had scuffs. But all in all for the price, it gets 3 stars from me, not one star. Bathroom was light & had bit counter. Shower got hot enough. Towels supplied. Oh and 2 free Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookies. The hotel does need a spruce up & probably lacks staff & housekeeping. But the pandemic didn't help that. I would stay here again as long as the price was under $130 a night. read more

I've never stayed at a hotel where I had to pay for parking there. There is no trash container in the bedroom area. The lighting is very dim. There was no tea in the lobby area and only regular coffee no decaf and only one tea bag in the hotel room. The breakfast was very mediocre for $15. The scrambled eggs we're not real. So every single time you leave the property you are charged a fee. The hotel receptionist never told me about a flat rate fee. Not a great experience. Had trouble trying to make a reservation with someone at the front desk who had ZERO information. It's pretty terrible that the front desk doesn't have the ability to answer information or the care to find out. Once I eventually got a reservation I stayed this weekend and the hotel needs work. Drain in tub wasn't allowing water to go down fast enough to not sit in a pool of soap water and the ceiling needs to get rid of all the paint that's flaking off. Breakfast was pretty dismal too. I checked in On a Sunday night and the person at the desk gave 1% help. Never was told on how to take care of parking(which you have to pay for). Once I reached my room I found a door that rattles back and forth when anyone closed their door in the hallway. My room had drywall dust on the heater and overall the room seems very ran down. Out of my sliding glass door is apparently a pool/ mattress storage area. After not finding a do not disturb sign in my room I asked the front desk for one "we don't have any up here but I will make a note on your room" I returned that evening and found someone had come in. I decided on this place for a couple of reasons. We were only staying for one night and the price was just right. After booking the room, I started to read more of the reviews. Those were pretty horrible. I was glad that they stuck us on the 5th floor since another reviewer said that the 2nd floor was outdated. My boyfriend has rewards with them, so not sure if that had anything to do with it. Our room was very nice and clean. The room seemed updated and I didn't feel grossed out. I'm very weird about hotel rooms and carpet. I vote on all hotels remove carpet from every room. But I was happy with what we got. The down fall about this hotel was paying for parking. The parking garage doesn't belong to this hotel. We left once that night $3 to get out and left the next day which was $11. I have seen worse, but its still annoying. We had two bottles of water in the room and a mini refrigerator. The view was of cloudy downtown. I honestly don't know why anyone would visit this state. Women on checking in were very very nice. They were appropriately apologetic about the concierge lounge beIng closed. When my cell phone he card wouldn't work very helpful in helping me figure it out. They forgot to give me my bag with two waters this is such a big deal. The rooms were standard, carpeted, poorly lit but the water pressure--for a change-- was better than most places I stay at. One thing I really liked wasn't having complementary sundries. Shaving cream, razors, toothbrush, toothpaste, and event deodorant! It's almost the whole CVS right here my room. Just call them up and they will bring it to you. The rooms facing the interior terrarium style pool area are nice. Big boy Flat screen and an awesome number of charging ports. Clean and no acrid stenches. The snack concession is a little thin. Updating my review because I recently stayed here again and wasn't super impressed. The bad: -The room I stayed in doesn't seem to be updated. They seemed to be updating rooms when I last reviewed, but either the upgrade isn't what I remembered or this particular room (516) deteriorated quickly. There are stains everywhere, some seem pretty gross but also basic. -No channel guide -Reduced room service menu. My last review mentions my room service, and the current menu doesn't offer anything I'd order, so it must have changed. -I had to ask for my water & cookie. I'm a silver member, so my impression is that I get 2 bottles of water. And everyone is supposed to get a cookie? The good: -I appreciate the front desk mentioning that parking is cheaper to pay for through the parking company if you're not going in & out. Other than the staff being professional and understanding (totally not their fault), it was a horrible stay. We were in with 4 families for the Blue Hen Lax tournament. I picked this hotel because of the accommodations, which was restaurant and lounge. Well, both were closed. Now we had to leave the hotel to find a place to eat in a place we weren't familiar with. The breakfast buffet wasn't included and from what I heard from other parents , it was terrible. The only thing good was the pool, and a restaurant district one block away. This was my first time staying here and the staff was very friendly. HOWEVER! I had a horrible check in process. Beware, Hotel Tonight might have the best deals, but they sent my reservation over with my guest name as the person who booked the hotel. I had to call Hotel Tonight in order for them to resend my reservation and the front desk lady asked who Aamir was and I said, that's him, my guest. So 30 minutes could have been avoided by asking who my guest name was. Other than that, the pool was very nice, the room was clean, and very conveniently located. Parking was only $12 a night, which is way cheaper than most city hotels. However if you leave it's like $2 per hour or something weird like that so we didn't leave to drive. There was a drunk person passed out in the passenger drop off, a man walking around with a cup of urine and a city cop posted in the lobby over night for security. Hotel is convenient if attending a show nearby. If you get a room on 2nd floor, they are out dated & not as nice as other floors. My experience is I had checked in and After 2 hours of being checked in and settled into my nice room, front desk called to say they put me in a wrong room right as I was about to get ready to shower for my event I was attending. Their excuse was no one was allowed on the floor they put me on. I had to pack up all my stuff, get dressed & go back to front desk to return key cards and pickup my new room keys. Their way of apologizing was giving me a free breakfast Cafe voucher for free breakfast the next day. They put me in a room that was outdated compared to the first one I was in, AC unit that was noisy, smelled like mold, room wasn't cleaned properly and damaged lamp that did not work. Bed was on lopsided bed frame that squeaked and moved when you moved. I had an event I had to get ready for so no time to go back down and request a different room as I was running late getting ready to attend because of the switch. Note: they set me in the room below the original one they said had to have empty only to put someone elses in it who was loud and a heavy Walker. So they lied. Very disappointed in the way the staff didn't care and when I checked out the next morning, I let them know the room condition and that list of broken items and all they said was oh we are sorry like nothing they did was wrong. I will not be using this hotel again. Bad customer service and care of hotel. Getting an AirBNB which are a couple blocks away in the new condo complexes next time I have to stay in town. This was my first time to Deleware, and I picked Wilmington because it's not far from Baltimore, where I flew in for work. Frankly, there's not much around this hotel that I could see at a quick glance - restaurants, grocery store if you want to get bottled water, etc. Nonetheless, it was a place to stay, so it sufficed. I arrived on a Sunday night when the concierge lounge was closed. I don't know if all diamond members receive a coupon for a free appetizer and non-alcoholic beverage or if I was given this due to lounge closure, but I was grateful to receive. I arrived late and didn't feel like roaming the streets. I ordered the honey BBQ wings and a root beer. The bartender was hardly at the bar; I waited about ten minutes from the time I sat down to the time I was able to place my order. The bartender would disappear for a good 20 minutes at a time. I realize the bar was very slow with only a handful of customers, but 20 minutes is a long time to be gone. If she was tending to other duties, I think this Hilton chain hotel needs to rethink staffing. The wings themselves were pretty decent and comparable to Buffalo Wild Wings. You get 12 of them as a starter with a small amount of celery and ranch or bleu cheese. I could not eat them all; not bad for a free appetizer! The concierge lounge was open for breakfast. Since I had a meeting, I asked for to-go containers, but the lounge did not have any. Instead, I took the tray from my room (where the coffee maker sits), and that worked! I chose the toast, eggs, bangers, etc. There were also bagels, pastries, canned fruit on a platter, etc. I have been to better breakfast buffets, but I suppose I can't complain too much for being free. My room was clean with a mini fridge, and the air conditioning worked well. The bathtub also drained correctly. I am very glad this hotel chain has changed their amenities back to Crabtree and Evelyn! I hated the Giovanni products; they always made my hair dry and brittle, and my hair is pretty low maintenance. Here's a run down of the cost for 1 night, and I also used 22,000 points: PARKING $16.00 GUEST ROOM $107.26 OCCUPANCY TAX - 8% $8.58 OCCUPANCY TAX - CITY $2.15 TOTAL $133.99 If I have one criticism (and reason for three stars), it's the parking situation (no valet). The hotel's overhang in the front is being remodeled. There is hardly anywhere to pull in to unload the car. There are metal signs up, reserving a space for loading and unloading, but the signs are so close together, it's nearly impossible to get a car into the lane. Furthermore, I really lucked out that the bellman happened to be on the sidewalk to assist or else I would have been completely lost. The parking garage is around the corner, but once you enter, you need to enter level A. This is the same level as the hotel entrance. You then go up a spiral staircase, and you are in the lobby. If you have luggage, the elevator is not working, so thankfully the bellman took my luggage for me (was waiting for me at the front desk) and gave parking instructions. There are no signs between the gate and the sign for level A to indicate which level the hotel is located. When you check out, it is the same situation. I left my luggage with the bell man while I exited the garage, circled around downtown (since they're all one-way streets), and my unattended luggage was waiting inside for me next to the front desk where I left it. Stay was fine but had way higher expectations for being a DoubleTree Hilton brand. Staff was extremely friendly however the rooms were very very small with one of the tiniest hotel bathrooms I've ever seen with the Hiltons. Cleanliness was probably my biggest factor as everything from the hallway floors to the elevator having crusted up discolored buttons, penises carved out on the elevator panel, rooms were bit dirty & you can tell they don't clean under the mattress or behind the bed well as tons of dust was caked on & debris/trash. Only reason I didn't request another room was due to the late check-in we had would have been to much of a pain to swap out that late. Imagine my surprise when they were in fact already clean. 3. The beds. Down pillows, comforters, and air conditioning. (The controls are on the wall, you're gonna be wasting your time if you're over there at the ac pushing buttons. (Like my husband ). Though it wasn't fall I love the effect of a comforter and a cold room. 4. As always we loved the lavender toiletries and simply had to have them . 5. Parking 16$ but you can park on the street until 8 am. We had to park in the lot for less than 2 hours after 8am so it was only $5. 6. The staff! Maurice and James were the best. I cannot say enough about their kindness. James made the checkout process enjoyable (first time ever). The maids!!! Were fabulous, they greeted us whenever and wherever they saw us! I'm ashamed to say we forgot to tip them. We have to drive up home again next month and plan to fix this oversight. The ladies were lovely. 7. The neighborhood was in a deserted downtown neighborhood so at 11pm they lock the doors and only key entry is allowed. If you join Hilton Honors you'll get points and a better room! 8. Not to Hilton standards! Lobby was beautiful and gave the false impression that the rooms would be as well- not the case. I stayed here recently on a business trip, so everything was paid for by the corporation I work for. I stayed for 5 nights. You get a pretty delicious cookie upon check-in. My room was clean and I did not have any issues with bugs, however, the wallpaper was peeling off and the mattress was pretty sunken in. My room was also next to the elevator, and it's very loud. It did get a little hot during the night sometimes because the air conditioning would randomly shut off and then turn on again. Lots of USB ports in the rooms and a good selection of TV channels. The free breakfast is pretty good. They have an omelette station, sausage, french toast, cereal, muffins, etc. The hotel bar was okay too, the food at the bar (wings) were very good. The bartender does disappear for a while sometimes, but she's nice. Nothing was spectacular, but everything was acceptable. The hotel is okay and I'd stay here again. read more

Travelers beware! I paid for my accommodation via Expedia prior to arrival. Upon arrival I was asked for my credit card. I assumed this was in case of incidentals. Instead it was to charge me for my room. I explained this was an error as I already paid and showed my reservation confirmation. The gentleman apologized but stated that he did not have the authority to credit the charges back to my card and I would need to speak with the Manager prior to check out. I went to the Front Desk the following day and spoke with Zyra, Assistant Manager who also apologized but stated she didn't have the authority to credit either. She said she would explain the situation to the Manager & all should be corrected within 7-10 business days. Fast forward 3 weeks, no action. I sent an email to Director of Rooms, Robert Deighton, have spoke with the 800 customer service reservations atleast 2x, spoke to Zyra 2x and left a message for the Manager, been transferred to Financial Director who has a voice mail that isn't set up to accept messages. To date, still no response from DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown Wilmington. I have now contacted my credit card company who has opened an investigation and am waiting for a response. As I had stayed at this very hotel at least 8x prior to the pandemic I would have never suspected this type (lack there of) customer service.  In the past I have even recommended others traveling to stay here. IMAGINE HAVING YOUR WEDDING ON THE HOTTEST DAY IN JULY AND A HILTON HOTEL HAVING NO AIRCONDITIONING !!! AND THE HOTEL DISCRIMINATES ON HANDLING THE SITUATION FAIR! The Double Tree Hotel violated section 1-102.10 of the provisions of the State of Delaware Food Code of improper holding food not kept cold enough before being served for our wedding hosted by them on July 23, 2022. The food was prepared and served indoor with temperature exceeding 97.1% Fahrenheit. The cooling system in the hotel was broken during the entire time of our wedding. The Double Tree Hotel ruined what was supposed to be the best day of our lives. Not to mention, the danger of food poisoning from serving food in such high temperature. Our photographer was unable to take acceptable photos in such conditions, with our cosmetic makeup melting because of the high temperature. The risk of operating their business should not be our responsibility. When a company fails to meet its obligations, they must do the honorable thing, and accept the loss. We are requesting a full refund of all monies we paid to Doubletree Hotel for our wedding BUT NOW THEY REFUSE TO EVEN RESPOND. read more
