    King Suite 501 master bedroom

We spent 3 nights in King Suite 501. Overall, the room was quiet, very spacious, well appointed, and clean. The beds were of moderate comfort. Every interaction we had with the staff was very positive and friendly. The location is very convenient to the downtown area and easy walking to many great restaurants and attractions. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast though in the onsite restaurant. It was of mediocre quality with very limited offerings and overpriced. We had a much better breakfast for half the price a block away at Daisy's. It was nice to have an actual full Starbucks in the hotel though too. If ever back in the Newark area, I would definitely stay here again.

If you look close, this my only issue

Small rooms, small bathrooms. Double queen beds. Breakfast is the same all the time but good. A star bucks inside. Most of the check in staff are friendly. Big exercise area. This time of year pool not up to my standards, but corporate says it's " safe to swim in "..... ( update )... after starting there for 2 weeks straight you start to notice things.. especially the breakfast. The pastries are old and rock hard never rotated, there's a 50/50 chance the food on the buffet is still raw and uncooked. The coffee is either crazy strong or water.. I usually got there as they opened, it was all supposed to be fresh.

This was my first time at this hotel. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic. I arrived around midnight. Many times when arriving late, you tend to get (at least in my experience) the not so happy graveyard staff member. Not at this hotel! The late night person was prompt, friendly and made me feel welcome. They even give you a warm gooey cookie - it was delicious. The room was tidy, clean and well set up. When asking for extra tea and shampoo, I was always provided with what I needed and helped with a smile by every single staff member. The bathroom was clean, organized and welcoming. The heater worked well and kept me warm and cozy during this cold/wet weather trip. The hotel is easy to get to and with a restaurant in house, it makes it very convenient if you dont want to go out for dinner. Next time I am in the area, I know which hotel to stay at :)

    My shower

While the front desk staff has been very friendly and helpful, the housekeeping is awful. Pics are of my shower, with moldy tile. The sock left on the floor was pretty easy to find as well. During this pandemic I was hoping for a bit more attention to detail in the cleaning!

My review is probably going to be echoing quite a few reviews on here. My husband and I are here in Newark for his work trip and decided to book doubletree since we always enjoy their hotels. Well, this is probably the worst doubletree we stay at! When we got to the hotel, we waited 20 minutes for the front desk person to show up (they were installing fire alarms, so I can't blame him for being short staffed). The front desk was friendly and super nice though! When we arrived to our room, our bathroom reek of mildew smell and there were some brown bits (not sure if it's stomped chocolate or something else) into the corner next to the shower. The shower had long hair in the tub that was obviously not mine. The lamp in our room had traces of crusted food/drink on it. The air conditioner is also extremely loud. We brush it off since we're in a rural town, thinking housekeeping would clean it the next day. Nope, either housekeeping is severely understaffed or has 0% care in this hotel. The only thing we noticed they did in our room was empty the trash and gave us new soap. Our bed was barely made and the same dirty spots were still there in plain sight.

So to our surprise, this hotel has been one of the cleanest stays in a long run. We were in choicehotels group, and every where we have stayed in one, from Frankenmuth MI to Belleville MI to Pittsburgh PA we have started to take our own bedsheets and lysol disinfectant wipes just to be on the safe side. We did not need them here. The beds were clean, the bedsheets were clean, the bathroom was clean, the front desk was clean and uncluttered. The only issue we had was in room #321 there were no bath towels, but when I contacted the front desk lady, Ashley, our needs were met ultra fast with an apology. It was not her fault. That's the job of the housekeeping supervisors to check and see if all is ok before rendering a room to be reopened for business, but the apology came from Ashley the only representative at night while we checked in. Awesome customer service in her part. The next morning we rushed down to have a quick breakfast, and I dropped my wife off at her work site. Returned back to the hotel and lounged around till 1pm with a late check out. Their normal checkout is 12pm. Love the times. For at choicehotels we had to start "kicking the customers out by 10am to make room for the next set of guests".

We had the Fall prix fixe menu in an Igloo, ate lunch at the on-site restaurant, and had Happy Hour…read moredrinks at the on-site bar and also stayed at the hotel. Note for Igloo reservers and prix fixe menu people: I was told you CAN order things off the prix fixe menu while in the igloos, but it's an upcharge. I'm not sure why; they're making those same things inside of the restaurant and bar 50 steps away, but if you're a picky eater who is on the fence about a pre-made menu, you can make it work if you want. I wanna say the place is a maze, but it really isn't. But it IS two very-large circles. Walking and stairs are a given for this place, and it can be easy to feel "lost" getting to your room. (Getting to our room, for example, required a set of stairs and 4 right turns then a left) It was great for getting steps in, but if "getting steps is" isn't necessarily comfortable for you, make sure you let them know that at check-in. I would not recommend this place for someone who has difficulty walking or uses a wheelchair. It's "technically" accessible in most spots, but it definitely isn't friendly to it. PROS: -Room was surprisingly spacious with tons of area to move around. Everything was clean with a gigantic bathroom that you could easily host a 5 person meeting in. If, y'know, you wanted to do that. -The furniture in the room was all very sturdy. You know how some hotel room furniture just looks cheap? Not here. Everything looks like that hand-me-down furniture from your grandparents that will outlive you. It was all clean too. -In-room bathtub is gigantic and easily fits 2 people and would fit four people if you, uh, had good friends. -All drinks at the bar can be poured in plastic to go outside with you. The bartender was happy to pour us a double with straws, and we had a great time walking the beautifully-lit Fall lights as the sun was going down. By far the highlight of the trip. -All the staff was really nice. Quite a few of them were brand new (I'm not sure if they have high turnover here or if it's seasonal hiring) which made for some interesting - but not terrible - experiences. I still want to know if there's a story to the Teddy Bear that's sitting up in the ceiling, though, and none of the staff were able to give me an answer. CONS: -Igloo experience was okay. It wasn't worth the cost. We got a lot more of our enjoyment from walking the property, having drinks while curled up on rocking chairs, and seeing everything they had to offer. The igloo was surprisingly cold (we asked for additional heat, and the server said she'd bring someone out, but no one ever showed), and my fingers were getting too cold to easily hold the silverware. The food was okay (with very generous portions. VERY generous), and the service was regular, but between the temperature and the "okay" food, it didn't quite feel worth the price. That being said, we'd probably do it again in 5 or 10 years simply for the ambience. It WAS cute. Just not worth the cost to make it an annual tradition. -wtf is with the bedframes they chose? The bedframe corners extend much further out than the bed, and we both ended up with multiple bruises from whacking our shins on the corners of the bedframe. -It's definitely a hotel built into an old building, and they aren't charging a ton per night. It is not immaculate. Things that matter (your bathroom, your bed, the sheets, tables, etc.) all seem clean and modern. Things that could fall into disrepair without affecting hygiene aren't necessarily spotless. Shingles on some of the buildings are falling off. The gazebo hasn't been repainted in awhile and its wooden age shows. Some light fixtures are hanging off their mounting points and most of the landscaping is starting to show that it hasn't been updated in a bit. Dust is pretty much on every surface that isn't easily-reached by standing (which is easier to notice when you can look down on the first floor from the second in most of the hotel). -Hot tub was down when we looked. A couple other reviews also mention this, so I wonder how long it has been down. Hot tub fixes are EXPENSIVE.

I knew I was going to love this place when I was greeted by the golden retriever Dakota when we arrived. Yet another lovely pooch greeted us at the door, Miss Wrigley. Loved having the pets around. The garden and home are amazing. Really quite lovely. They also have a beautiful pool with lounge area and a lovely big porch in the front of the home. We stayed in the Berllan Glen room. It's gorgeous. Big bedroom area, very large bathroom area, and private porch. The pictures speak for themselves. Some folks may need a step stool to get into the bed :) The reason for the one start deduction is that I went to put my lingerie in the bureau. I saw a bunch of women's stockings all curled up inside in a drawer. I assumed someone forgot their clothes. Then I opened other drawers. They too were all filled. Then I went to the end table chest of drawers on both sides of the bed, they were full. I finally found a few empty drawers in the armoire with the TV. I also could not find a closet door that would open. I eventually figured out there were two rods to hang clothes on on either end of the armoire. I believe the lovely hostess should've told us that there were clothes in our room and where we could hang or put ours clothes away. I found it off putting and quite odd to have someone else's clothes in the furniture. I've since asked other friends and family and they too agree that is quite odd. Anyway, the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Lovely spread. Apparently, you can arrange for dinner at the home, but you have to let the innkeepers know in advance. The house is chock full of items for decoration and has a tiny little gift shop where I did purchase some private label Earl Grey tea that's quite yummy. As a very nice touch they do have complementary sodas, water, and snacks for the guests. One can also purchase wine, if desired. There is also a coffee bar and tea bar. I was so pleased to see a tea bar because so few places have that. My only small issue with that is that there's no milk available--only in the mornings when the coffee bar has their half-and-half out. I didn't realize they have "operating" hours. The innkeepers are available until 9 at night, unless an emergency. I finally figured that out on a card they left in the room on the bureau with fresh water. It's about a seven minute ride to the actual Town of Granville. The town is a must see! The Whit's ice cream is delicious. All in all, it's a lovely place, except for the fact that I had that issue with putting my clothes away.

Since I can't get into a tub, I asked for a shower bench or chair. I was actually told it was *my* responsibility to bring one! I told them no--I rented a roll-in shower, so it is their responsibility to provide an accessible setup. When I mentioned that the situation felt unsafe and that I'd be forced to sue if I got hurt, they kicked me out of the hotel. No other hotels in the area had an accessible room available, so I had to drive 30 miles in the opposite direction just to find a place to stay. I've been emailing back and forth with the General Manager since it happened. He literally told me to get out of his hotel, asked "who did I think I was," and told me I "must be privileged." Yes, I have all of this in writing over email! The front desk agent was actually very nice and tried her best to help, but the management is ridiculous. I've been so upset about this for days. Corporate and the helpline have been useless--they just told me I have to take it up with the specific hotel to rectify it. It feels like we have no rights at all. I have officially filed an ADA violation with both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Ohio ADA Non-Compliance. So far, I've only received an automated confirmation that they received it.
