My room's TV is from the last century. Weird guide you can't scroll through. Very complicated. Resorted to watching the Oscars at bar downstairs (because the signal was "scrambled" in my room and I couldn't watch it there) and tho bartender did change the channel to the Oscars at my request, the TV was not capable of doing closed captions (really?). Since I was basically the only person in the whole bar (besides two others who appeared very interested in the show) I asked her to turn up the volume which she did - slightly. Could barely hear it. Like we all cared more about the stupid Muzak music playing, drowning out the little we could hear on the TV. We were the only ones in the place! Read the room! Update your TVs to the 20th Century already! Ridiculous! I do like the room though! Hate the TV. read more

Rooms are overall clean. Breakfast is not included. Bathrooms are pretty small. Location is walking distance to downtown area. Not the nicest area though and a lot closest to early around the hotel. Service isn't great. When I asked about a pin for the peloton the front desk could have cared less they didn't offer any help or to go check it out. read more

I stayed at this hotel for a convention, and I had a very enjoyable time. The area we had for our group's events was satisfactory and also large enough that we can even come back with a larger group, should we be able. Two meals were provided for us (lunch buffets) which were very well prepared, and the staff kept the buffet tables full at all times. In general, the staff went out of their way to help us as much as possible. Free coffee is a big plus. My room was a decent size, though the bathroom was a little cramped, and the shower vent is on 24/7 (good background noise, I guess). The hotel bar area doubles as a restaurant. I did not dine there, though I looked at the menu for breakfast and dinner offerings. It was pretty standard, perhaps slightly higher prices than you might get elsewhere nearby, but you're also paying or the convenience of dining here. The hotel is about a 3 minute walk from the nicer areas of downtown Schenectady in one direction, and Union College in the other, and the casino, so the location is a big plus as well. read more

The hotel was nice enough. The service at the front desk was lacking. I was sitting in the lobby reading and the front desk person came over to see if I was alright. I had a bit of a cough. That was fine and nice. He then asked me if I wanted a trash can and told me to keep it down. I did not even know how to respond to that. That was extremely rude and quite frankly crossed a line. This hotel was delightful to stay in. Varsha checked me into the hotel and she was absolutely lovely. Perfect eye contact, got me signed up for Hilton Honors, and was welcoming. The room was super nice. The bed was probably the comfiest thing I have ever slept on. I did not want to get up the next morning. The shower was literally a power washer. I could walk into the shower and right out, and be power washed. One comment on the shower, is that the door is on the opposite side from the shower head, so you can't "stay safe behind any part of door" while you adjust the shower temp. So beware. The breakfast was delicious- it is an extra charge, so don't get blindsided. I ordered a bagel with lox (14) It hit the spot. The portion of salmon was the most I'd ever had on a lox bagel- ever. it came in three rolls, and totaled probably 1/4-1/3 lb. I did not like having to assemble it myself, though. (it came deconstructed). The price was a little high, but the comfort and friendliness of the staff exceeded all expectations, so I'd likely stay here again. Everything was fine until checkout. I was staying here for six nights and called the front desk on my last night to ask for a late checkout. He said I could check out at 1:00, which was great. This morning I had housekeeping knocking on my door at 11 AM, then again at noon. At 12:19 I had a call from the front desk asking how much more time I needed. I told him that I called the night before and was told I could have until 1:00. He said he didn't have that on his sheet and could give me until 12:30. What kind of customer service is this? What was supposed to be an exciting trip dropping my son off at College turned into a complete disappointment. First, At reservation I was quoted a price and charged another one at CHECK IN... No problem, Then we wake up to go to the Breakfast that was paid for and included, which turned out to not be a buffet but a sit down breakfast that we had to place an order for. Lets forget about waiting damn near an hour to get our breakfast, then half the order forgotten.... The cherry on top was that after all was said and done, I was handed a bill! When I mentioned that I paid for my room with the breakfast included, they assured me that it will be taken off the bill. It was not! I paid twice.... My son will be in college for the next four years... Lets take a wild guess where I wont be staying every time we visit!!!! read more

I had no interaction with the hotel staff (concierge, restaurant and housekeeping) due to digital check-in, fee breakfast and a short length of stay. I normally stay at the Hampton Inn on State Street when I am in the area for work and felt this hotel was more modern but not a more comfortable stay. Breakfast not being complimentary is a huge negative and the bathroom is SMALL. Additionally, the shower has a metal plate to cover the drain which yields the most obnoxious noise when trying to unwind in a shower after arriving from a long day of travel. The Keurig in the room is an upgrade from the nearby Hampton Inn with Green Mountain Coffee. Overall it was a comfortable stay but I think on my future trips to Schenectady I will opt for the Hampton Inn. read more

I came here because of another reviewer who said they had the best complimentary breakfast, of any Hilton hotel, but the staff told me they didn't serve complimentary breakfast. I showed them his review and said 'the only reason I came was for the free breakfast', and they said there was nothing they could do about it. On top of that, there was a fire alarm that went off while I was still sleeping (around 8am). I called them about it and they said it was a faulty system. I asked if we get free breakfast or anything because of their faulty equipment that woke us up, and they said no. This staff was so unwilling to work with us to keep their customers happy. The fire safety equipment is faulty. And the breakfast isn't free (which is the norm at many hotels now). Overall I had a horrible experience here and won't ever go back again to this specific hotel. They taint the name of Hilton and should be taken off their list of hotels. read more

This hotel was very upgraded and cozy. We stayed for the night on our way to Niagra Falls and we both had a great nights' rest due to the comfy king sized bed. Breakfast was great although the eggs were a little dry. The staff was really nice and our stay overall was excellent. The only complaint I have was the bathroom, very modern and cute but too small. Everything was too close together and I can see it being a problem for someone who is claustrophobic. Overall however I enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it if you happen to stay in the area. read more

Beautiful room--the hotel is new--and I have to say that the food was excellent. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Absolutely no complaints. Large lobby with an open fireplace, bar and restaurant. The hotel is quite large. There is a laundry room on the second floor, and a great gym and swimming pool on the first floor. Free wifi. If you want a faster speed, you can pay to upgrade. There is a business center on the lobby floor. Parking is free. The location is a five-minute walk from Schenectady's quaint downtown. No big city living here, but it is quiet and clean. read more

Terrible customer service. In the car on my way to stay at the DoubleTree Hilton, we I received an email cancelling the event I was attending at Union College. Instead of continuing with 3 hour drive, I turned the car around to drive home. Called the hotel to cancel the reservation and was told the cancellation fee was the entire cost of the overnight stay. Explained my situation, but was told there were no exceptions. Spoke with a manager, same response, won't consider even a fee reduction. Just had stayed at a Hilton hotel in Lewiston, ME, joined the Hilton Honors program, etc. Hilton is asking for my loyalty but will not even consider a reduction in the cancellation fee. Hope you're happy with the fee, but you have now lost my loyalty and my future business. Well done. read more

Sammy Burger & Bistro restaurant within the hotel was amazing! My family and enjoyed a fresh menu along with their specials for the evening. The food was well worth the $$ spent! Along with a cozy ambiance and a staff ( waitress Gwen, bartender Rita, Deanna food/banquet manager and Chef Shaun) that catered to my wife and I and my two young girls we will be back here in the near future. After they gave Us a hassle about honoring a family discounted rate (family member was an employee) , Service was good hotel was nice, once they allowed us to check in, we had a power outage for 8 hours nothing offered to us for the inconvenience ( there was No heat/air No TV No internet and no one even came around to the rooms to check on us that day) not even an apology for the inconvenience. On top of that we had BED BUGS they took forever to change our Room since we has a discounted rate they couldn't upgrade us lol... ( can you believe it they made us wait 30 plus min to change our room cause we had a discounted rate), it was 4th of July weekend and late night so no Hotels available. Hoping we didn't bring any back with us in our clothes And I'm still waiting for a call back 2 days after check-out for a follow up for our inconvenience. read more

I love double trees. I can tell this one used to be a Holiday Inn though. I stayed here for an entire week. It was very dusty in the rooms and the vents made lots of people cough etc. The cleaning team was EXCEPTIONAL and SO NICE and front desk girls were super helpful. My poor review, however, is mostly due to this: As I was waiting for my car to the airport I came out of the public restroom. A man who worked there (Blue Shirt on at 1:40pm on 2/5/2018) starts screaming at me saying "excuse me." Finally he made me take my headphones off and says "Are you staying here??" I said "yes" and then he goes to insult me further by saying "what room??"......I stayed here an ENTIRE WEEK! I walked away and put my headphones on without arguing. This was so disheartening because he could have easily asked me "how was your stay?" instead of targeting me. And ps, my Lyft driver convinced me to write this becuse he thought this was a pretty messed up thing to go through. Ok. Peace out read more

A nice facility in a not so great neighborhood. However, I travel a lot and have never been treated so well. The staff are amazing and go out of their way to make you comfortable and feel at home. There was a loud party in the room next to us and someone came and told us we shouldn't have to put up with that. It was taken care of swiftly without a call to the front desk. I got a room on the 28th of July 2020, for me and my 11yr old granddaughter to get some much needed rest. Well it was extremely noisy around 11pm in the corridor of the room I was in, house keeping woke us out a sound sleep around 7:30 am then then the fire alarms started blaring around 10am. They quoted me a rate of $129 charged me $145.77. I left feeling tired and frustrated. Would absolutely not recommend when I expressed my concerns to the front desk I got a very very dry I'm sorry. In the lobby of this hotel is an amazing restaurant! Sammies has the best grass fed burger I have eaten in a very long time. The cook prepared it perfectly and rare. They also accommodated my husband with gluten-free bread the next morning as well as a fist class omelette. The staff took great care of us during a stay that included a lot of hospital visits. I would take a detour to eat here again. The hotel rooms were comfortable and there is a warm salt water pool. I'd add even more stars to this review if I could. read more

We've,family, have visited Schenectady N.Y. several times and have stayed a few of the different hotels in the area and this Double Tree is the Best hotel to stay in by far. The hotel is newish with an open lobby. Checked-in in the evening. Right away, as you enter the hotel, there's a feeling of comfort and the smell of fresh baked cookies. Greeted by a friendly face, Reagan who was very professional, courteous, polite and very helpful. Great staff! Room was very clean and comfortable. We plan to make Double Tree our home away from home and will definitely come back during our next visit to Schenectady, New York. read more

This is my second stay here. First time was a nice room. The experience was great and I was happy to choose this hotel a second time. Second stay was a huge beautiful 2 room suite. There was tons of room for my wife, daughter, and I to sleep in the kind sized bed and we could go into the other room for her naps. Very nice hotel and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast was expensive but had a great omelette bar and everything was delicious. Paying for convenience I suppose. The new iPhone-based key to unlock your room is a nice touch. Can't think of a single thing bad about the stay. I travel a bit for work and amongst the big chains I've found the suite rooms at Hiltons to be the most consistent when it comes to nice rooms and best experience. read more

Thought I had a reservation hear but turns out, I didn't due to horrible staff. Called multiple times in early July to book a reservation to either speak to someone who didn't speak English, didn't know how to book a reservation, or didn't give any kind of confirmation of the booking when I thought I had finally got a hold of someone to book a room. I showed up to the hotel after a full day of flying at 1am, and was told that I didn't have a room that night, and they were sold out. No manager was on sight to speak to, and the attendant didn't help me book elsewhere. My reservation should have been for multiple nights but they only had me down for the following night so I left without coming back. Reading other reviews on here, customer service appears to be a huge issue, which is insane with a higher end hotel. Ended up staying at the Courtyard at Marriott instead without any issues. read more

This hotel completely screwed me. My stay there was pleasant enough, but upon check out it appeared that they never charged me for my stay. I spent a MONTH trying to get in contact with the manager, and repeatedly talked to the corporate offices. After two months of them never returning my call, and having corporate and the front desk repeatedly send me my invoice, telling me I had paid in full and no longer owed them money, I considered it a closed issue and moved forward with my life. Fast forward to more than 3 months since I left the hotel, and they have now hit me with the charge, overdrawing my account my almost $2,000. I am beyond livid, especially considering that I worked for a month to try to rectify the situation and they repeatedly told me there was nothing I needed to do, that I had already paid. To add insult to injury they never once returned a phone call. This hotel's customer service is AWFUL, if I could talk to corporate and get the manager fired for the way he handled this I would. If they had bothered to call me back during the month when I worked so hard to get them to take the fee, I would not be in this situation now. Double Tree, get your act together, I will never stay in one of your hotel's again, and you better believe I will be posting this review everywhere I can. read more
