AWARENESS: Knowing months ago my son would be finishing up school in Ballston Spa, I tried to make reservations close to him. Lucky for me, nothing was available and I ended up booking here at the Homewood Suites in Schenectady. NARRATIVE: The wife and flew into Newark from Sacramento on the "red eye" and arrived here at the hotel just after 1 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2018. We were told our room wouldn't be ready for a few hours so, we used the extra time to explore the area and have lunch. When we returned shortly after three, we were handed our complementary waters and the keys to room #521. Entering the room, I noticed this king, one bedroom suite was bigger and nicer than any of the other Homewood Suites I've stayed at in the past. Room #521 is only one of two balcony rooms on the top floor with a rivers view. The room has an opening french door leading to a small balcony which has a small table and two chairs; and if the weather is good. The view of the Mohawk River below is spectacular, peaceful and very relaxing. The Rivers Casino is just over the river and is within walking distance from the hotel. A right turn from the hotels parking lot on Freemans Bridge Road will take you to Route 50 and TWO stores where you can purchase beer, wine and spirits. This road also takes you to Lowes and Walmart. Everything is very close and within walking distance. ** Hotel staff were always friendly and very helpful. SYSNOPSIS: Based on the totality of everything like; cleanliness, amenities, noise, professional and helpful staff, scenery and the ease and proximity of shopping. I'd rank this Homewood Suites as the BEST Hilton property I've ever stayed at. RECOMMENDATIONS: I'd only recommend a few changes to help things out and better the guest experience. 1. I'd suggest soft closing toilet seats be installed in all the rooms. The sound of a slamming toilet seat sucks. 2. I'd recommend the hand sanitizer already in place at the entrance to the dining area be moved on the direct and opposite wall, next to the threshold where guest get their plates, food and drinks. Out of site equals out of mind. If the guest see the hand sanitizer next to where the food, they'll use it. 3. I'd recommend non-slip mats for all the hotel room shower-tubs. ** Initially, my room didn't have one. When I talked to Marcia at the front desk and asked about one for my room. She insured me I'd get one. When my mat arrived later in the day, I was told Marcia actually left the hotel and purchased a new mat for me and the room. Marcia, I thank and applaud your hard work and dedication. I wish there were more like you and kindness alone warrants a FIVE star rating from me. I'd highly recommend this hotel for your next visit and stay! read more

Stayed at this hotel back in May, there was no hot water. Was told I would receive a voucher for a stay in the mail. I've called hilton/this hotel a handful of times, but they keep giving me the run around. read more

It is just ok, I am not planning a return. Just spent four night there in April 2026. The suite is large, that is a plus. The location is ok, you have to get in your car for everything but the restaurant next door. I stay at Homewood suites constantly and what disappointed me here was the mediocre stocking of kitchenware just 4 items of anything (plates bowls, cutlery that bends) no real utensils for cooking (why people go to suites!). Small things that I expect at Hiltons like hot coffee in the lobby--nope whatever is left from breakfast. There is no housekeeping for first 3 days so you are likely to run out of coffee pods in your room, have full trash cans etc. Sure you can call for it but it is annoying. It is just ok with a price tag that should have more attention to guest comforts. read more

We called, left messages and STILL have not heard back from ANYONE at Homewood Suites or Hilton Honors because we are HH members. This is extremely disappointing and quite frankly, this establishment should be embarrassed. read more

Hotel and location were great, but hospitality and housekeeping were not acceptable. I requested that the sofa pullout bed be made up as a bed on the day that I originally made the reservation and also called the hotel on my way to check in with the same request. I was told that they would make the bed and it was already noted in the profile request. Upon arrival the bed was not made. I requested it be made as I stepped out 30 minutes later to attend a wedding. When arrived back at the hotel at 10:30pm, I checked at the front desk to see if the bed was made and i was told to call the front desk if there was no bedding in the closet as making up the bed is the responsibility of the guest. I went i the room and called the desk and asked for blankets as there were none in the room and i was. told they were short staff, so they could send me a blanket after 11 when more staff arrived. I finally explained that we urgently needed to go to bed (traveling with an individual with a disability) and they said they would send someone up. The staff arrived with what looked like a mattress pad for a twin sized bed and was not a full or queen sized anything, and certainly not a blanket. Other challenges included that there were also no napkins or paper towels in the kitchen and the bathroom was dirty. Needless to say the hospitality and housekeeping were not acceptable. read more

An ok 2.5-3 star hotel. From the outside, the grounds, the riverside restaurant in the lot, and the scenery, it has the makings of an at least 4 star place. Not quite. The most convenient aspect are the suites. The kitchen does help the business traveler and family that does not want to eat out. The free breakfast buffet is crowded but nice albeit simple and basic. The front desk staff are very nice. The climate control in each room can definitely use an upgrade. In some rooms, the AC is right next to the bed so bring extra blankets. The hot water (or lack thereof) is an issue. The showers have no water pressure and are lukewarm at best. Room cleaning is every other day...don't ask to have it every day. Overall the place is old, borderline run down and is in need of a total makeover. It's ok for a brief stay. Stay away if youre here for an extended time. There's plenty of alternatives. read more

The heater was so loud with rattling that it kept me awake all night. The shower in my room did not work. When I tried to use the pool it was closed for "cleaning" and yet when it reopened there was literally a bandaid on the pool deck. I checked out a night early and was explained the issues with my room. I told it was too late in the day to get a refund (early afternoon) and that management would contact me....which never happened. read more

I love this hotel. Definitely will be coming back. Great staff - front desk actually took the time to explain things at the hotel..which might not sound a big deal to you but I have been to hotels lately where the front desk were just like "here is your key" and act like they couldn't be bothered. So this small act of friendliness and professionalism by the front desk goes a long way with me. Room was clean and spacious. It has full size fridge, dishwasher, kitchen sink and stove. My only complaint is the extra blanket they provide for the pull out couch is worn out...the blanket have all fuzzies coming out and very rough and itchy. Please either provide just a simple comforter or replace those green blankets. pool was nice and clean...breakfast was ok, could have been better. But hey I don't think I have ever gone to any hotels where the breakfast are to die for. Overall, price point and the quality of the room and how nice the staff are...totally worth it! We had an excellent stay! The staff was friendly, the room was clean and very good size for our family! The hotel is right beside the Mohawk River which has a natural beauty. I stayed here back the first week of September. Please excuse the late review, but I've been busy and it fell through the cracks. Anyway, it was nice and quiet, away from much of everything, right off the Mohawk River. Breakfast was complementary, but I only ate it once during my stay. It was wet eggs with chunks of ham cut up in it. Lucky for me there was a little kitchen back in my room where I finished cooking the eggs. They were okay, but enough of a deterrent that I didn't bother with the complimentary breakfast anymore. They also offer fruit and I believe cereal, but I'm an eggs and sausage kinda girl. The staff was nice, friendly, and made sure I had everything I needed while I was staying with them. I'll definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area. Only tip I can offer you is to go over your bill before you check out. Someone had charged something little to my room. Simple enough of a mistake but still, better safe than sorry. read more

Ashley- Manager at this establishment has to be the rudest and most unprofessional person i've come across. She has no class and her style of management is best fit for underdeveloped hotel. She needs training on customer service, communication because she loves to be combative. I called to address a double charge on my fathers credit card and she not only cuts me off when I'm speaking but states "what I'm physically looking at", who are you addressing? A customer or your friend? Then calls me back to say she was WRONG. Thank you for my refund. How about take your emotions out of it and address the issue PROFESSIONALLY. Customer Service and Management isn't an easy gig dealing with people but make sure you catch your nasty attitude with someone who doesn't know better. read more

I spent one night at this Homewood Suites over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was spotless and very comfortable. We fit four people into a room with a king size bed and pull out couch beautifully. Staff was very accommodating and brought up extra linens for the beds upon request. The workout room is small but spacious enough for 5 people to fit comfortably without being on top of each other. All in all, the Homewoods Suites was good. However, i had one, really bad experience with noting. The mattress on the pull out couch had no filling or no filling remaining. It was like sleeping on the springs. The first night i used an extra blanket to be able to sleep. The morning of my second night, on Saturday April, 17 at 10:00AM, i called the front desk. I told the staff person about the problem and GOT NO HELP WHATSOEVER. In fact I was told that under no circumstances was a replacement mattress available and it was suggested that I try other rooms. I thought that was ridiculous for me to go room to room seeking a usable mattress. In fact the employee was defensive and very less then helpful. When I went to make up the bed that evening, not only was my second blanket removed, but the fitted sheet was also removed. The mattress was not changes as it had the same nasty black stain as the original mattress. So at 11:00PM i called the front desk again. A nice employee brought me a quilt and extra blanket and a fitted sheet. However, who ever works the front desk on Saturday, April 17 at 10:00AM is a terrible employee. Nice new hotel - everything is modern, clean, and comfortable. Lots of space to hang out, and the only hotel I've been to that has noticeably good coffee! The free breakfast was actually really good as well and everyone who works there was really nice. I didn't partake in the evening apps, but they didn't have their alcohol license so everyone got one free drink for the restaurant next door, during certain hours, which is always nice :) If you checked in late, like I did, you lost one of your free drink tickets, which was weird (the restaurant said they just all go on the hotel's tab, so not sure why we couldn't use them the next day!). The wifi went out during an important meeting I was connected to from my room with no chance to sign back on (it was't an option to connect to, regardless of paid or not) and was a huge disappointment. If I'm traveling for work, having good wifi is at the top of the list. I also purchased a river view room and got a room directly above the pool, so my view was just rooftop. I got upgraded to a new room but would honestly just have preferred to get the correct room - this added an extra half hour to a midnight check-in. read more

This is my second stay at the Sch'dy Homewood Suites and our accommodations were very roomy and clean. Staff is wonderful, especially Evan at the front desk and Jackie in the breakfast room. Due to COVID their breakfast is prepackaged egg sandwiches, yogurt, cereals, pastries, bagels and fruit. If that's not sufficient, there is a diner across the street. The Lighthouse restaurant which is on the same property is great for lunch or dinner, takeout, inside or patio seating. read more

Really enjoyed our stay here... my first time trying the Homewood Suites brand. Had a two-Queen room (not a suite) which was very large and spacious. Everything seemed well maintained and clean. The free breakfast was definitely a notch upon what I've experienced at The Hampton Inn brand; lots of variety, everything from pre-made omelettes to French toast sticks, fruit, cereal, sausage and peppers, and muffins and danishes. This hotel is awesome. We got displaced by the Rivers Casino Hotel at 1am and they could not have been nicer. They gave us a great rate, a really nice room, and very friendly. I would stay here again and again. The overnight manager and front desk employee from Friday night 8/24 to Saturday 8/25 should get an award. Just spent a night at the lovely, 2 year old facility. It is beautiful. Rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. Staff is so friendly and welcoming. Plenty of public space and delicious buffet breakfast. I highly recommend the if you find yourself in Schenectady. A nice restaurant is right next door. Will certainly return to this gem during my next visit to this area. read more
