There is of course this gallery, but there is also the Galleries at CSU at the other end of the next block. Anyways.... This was a cool spot. I first wandered in as I was taking a walk around downtown. I didn't realize the place was between shows and not really open. I wandered in the first set of doors and yanked at the second only to realize I would have to be buzzed in. A lady quickly noticed me. At this point I had gotten a better look inside and saw it didn't look quite ready for visitors; I was expecting her to turn me away. But she was very nice, let me in, gave me some flyers on upcoming events and invited me to walk around and even go downstairs to where a second gallery was being set up. She kept saying she was sure I would like it better if I came back for their opening reception night, but I actually liked it at this visit. There were some things you couldn't get a good look at because they weren't set up yet, but it was cool to see the place in a state of transition. Not often does the average person get to see a gallery with paintings on the floor, some wrapped up still, others leaned upon others. Such a presentation could be a whole contemporary art exhibit of its own...but I digress. I did return after the opening night and was even more impressed. My only negative comment would be the lighting. I think it was just too full force and not really needed to the extent it was used. However I liked all the art - there's even some in the workers' offices on the first floor. All of it is for sale - $750.00 to $10,000.00. Free admission. This is more than just a gallery. They service paintings in what looks to be a sizeable backroom. You can come here for restoration or framing needs.

The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit was a mixed bag for me; some really good and some not so much. I…read morewaited for the price to come down and went on a Tuesday afternoon after the cost had come down to $20 plus a $7 fee. Lets get some of the basics out of the way. The exhibit is located on the East Side of Cleveland in a converted warehouse space near to the Shoreway. The entrance to the parking lot is on E. 72nd street, but you drive around the building and enter on the E.70th Street side. Parking is $5 which you pay for inside. Since the day was nice, I parked on E.72nd and walked around the building. Once inside you check-in and then can either enter the exhibit or look around the lobby/gift shop. There are some cool pieces to take pictures with and some things to see. The exhibit itself is a large rectangular room about 60 foot wide by 200 foot long. The tall walls have been covered with screens onto which the exhibit is projected. There are projections on the floor, including circles 6 foot apart to allow for social distancing. There are a decent number of benches and folding chairs. While I was there the room had a nice sized crowd, but not overly crowded. The sound is excellent, although it may be a bit loud for some. The exhibit itself runs on a continuous loop of about 30 minutes. Once inside you are allowed to stay as long as you like. The projections vary slightly depending on which wall you are looking at so finding the place you want to be and what you want to watch can be challenging. A major issue with the space is that there are two rows of columns running down the space; to try to deal with this they have covered them with mirrored panels. Unfortunately this means that your view is constantly broken up and disrupted and takes you out of the exhibit. The projections and music is very well done. Technically this is an excellent piece of interactive art. How you enjoy this will vary greatly. To make the piece interactive they have taken Van Gogh's works and altered them in a number of ways. Most of the projections are smaller details of the larger pieces; there is almost no time given to the full pieces. They have added animation and movement to the art. They have also changed some of the colors and illumination levels to create action. As interactive art it is entertaining and compelling, as an actual exhibition of Van Gogh's art it falls far short. I had downloaded the Android App which had a good deal of background information and explanations. Unfortunately I found the app hard to use, especially the audio functions. I was listening to the podcast designed to synchronize with the exhibit, it cut out about half way through and was impossible to get back working. The gift shop had quite a nice selection of items, although prices were hard to find and seemed a bit expensive. Overall I was OK with the Immersive Van Gogh, partially because I waited until the prices had reduced significantly and I avoided the parking fee. If I had paid about $70-$80 I would have felt ripped off. The exhibit itself was really well done from a technical standpoint, I just felt that it did not do full credit to the Van Gogh's genius. I also went at a time when the exhibit was not overly crowded; during prime times it could be challenging. The best part of Immersive Van Gogh is that it has introduced the artist and great art to a much wider audience. The exhibit really highlights the details, the colors and the brushwork of the art, it unfortunately de-emphasizes the full works and the compositions that are a major part of what makes these masterpieces. Since a single company runs the exhibit, leases the building and does the ticketing it feels like they are trying to ring out excessive money with the ticketing fee and parking fee in addition to the cost of the tickets. How you feel about the Immersive Van Gogh will depend on how you approach the exhibit. If you are looking for a real exhibit of Van Gogh's work this is probably not for you. If you are looking at a fairly unique multi-media presentation based on Van Gogh's works, you will probably enjoy it. I would suggest going through the app to get some nice background information.

The minute you arrive you can tell there is a community feel. There are several vendor booth and several stages throughout the festival. They have a kids area with activities. Food trucks are available as well as the area restaurants. We try to go every year. The highlight this year was seeing AJ and the Wood perform.

Waterloo Arts is a non-profit in the Waterloo neighborhood committed to economic improvement of the…read moreneighborhood and the local arts. One of the notable initiatives by this organization is Walk All Over Waterloo. It's a monthly initiative that draws a crowd to the neighborhood to explore local arts, eats, and shopping. I attended many Walk All Over Waterloo night, but stopped at the Waterloo Arts for the first time. I enjoyed my time! ARTS: Waterloo Arts is currently hosting Holiday Co-Op featuring local artists. This Co-Op will be running until December 21, 2025. The shopping is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 12-7 PM. It's a perfect place to shop for the holidays. You'll find ceramics, art, driftwood decor, jewelry, eco dyed fabrics, and a lot more. You'll be able to find very unique gifts unique just like the neighborhood at different price ranges. Definitely do someone of your holiday shopping here. The space also hosts various workshops and events, check their website. BAR: Seasonally there is a bar open occupying the second room of the space. It's very nice considering it's not even a full time hospitality space. Cute table, lots of space, art, and greenery. It was cozy and inviting. The holiday menu was limited but very good. I ordered a mulled wine ($10) and was very pleased with the drink. It was perfectly spiced with orange and hearty spices. It's exactly how I make it, I like to over spice. It was also very hot, which was a huge plus! I wish this mulled wine was a constant option, I'd come here just for it! SERVICE: The service was extremely friendly at the bar and so were the patrons. The bartender asked for my name and had a very pleasant conversation with me. It was evidence that everyone who works at this non-profit is very committed to its mission and are ambassadors of the neighborhood. I was very pleased with the hospitality. I plan to research when the little bar is open, so I can stop by more and support the mission. I love the inviting vibes and mulled wine! It's a must visit to shop your gift list and pause for snacks, drinks. Add Waterloo Arts to your holiday market stop!

First came here in January 2023 for the 10th annual DayGloSho at Waterloo Arts…read more It was a great event and the space was engaging and you can just feel the positivity from the people who own it and the artists who display their art at this location. They shared updates on a lot of the creative businesses in the area, served local pizza and beer from Citizens Pie, Great Lakes and other local places. They had a speaker that works at DayGlo (RPM) and were very engaging with our YP Arts Group, Column & Stripe. Couldn't recommend this place more or the Waterloo Arts district. Truly a Cleveland gem and a positive way for a resurgence of a Cleveland Neighborhood.
