Buyer Beware: My Experience at Doug Henry Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Kinston, NC I brought my Jeep in for repairs at Doug Henry Chrysler Dodge and Jeep in Kinston on April 7th. The dealership had my vehicle until April 25th, when I received a call stating that it was ready for pickup. I arrived within the hour to pick up my vehicle. On the way home, I stopped for gas and immediately noticed that my spare tire was missing. I returned to the dealership right away to ask about it. That's when I was informed--for the first time--that the dealership had been robbed the night before (Wednesday), and my tire had been stolen during the incident. Not only was I never notified about the theft before picking up my vehicle, but I was also told the dealership would do nothing to make the situation right. Their position was that they were not responsible for my vehicle while it was in their possession and that I would need to file a claim with my own insurance company. I explained that filing a claim would not be practical because the cost of the tire was less than my insurance deductible. Nevertheless, they stood firm that I was responsible for replacing the stolen tire. I was told I could speak to the service manager, Mr. House, on April 29th to see if an exception could be made. When I did speak with him, he repeated that the cost was my responsibility, but that he would reach out to Doug himself to discuss a possible resolution. I never heard from him again. I find it unacceptable that a dealership can have full possession of a customer's vehicle, fail to notify the owner of a theft on their lot, and then wash their hands of any responsibility. This kind of disregard for customers and their property is alarming. My husband purchased me a vehicle from Doug Henry we signed for vehicle on the 14th of January. We had tags transfer from one vehicle to the new vehicle. This should have take no more than a few days. I needed this to be completed to get tags on the old vehicle.I patiently waited for my registration to come 2 weeks, 3weeks go by. So on Feb 11, 3 days shy of a month I call them, so they had to have the person who deals with the registration to call me back. A couple of hours later the person who handles calls me back. We have it she says, I see you don't live in the area. You can come get it when you are in the area or we can mail. "Hmm let use some common sense here if I don't live in area why would you hold it if you had it. Why didn't you just mail it. "So I tell her mail it. Smh I called DMV in Raleigh they see that the tags had been transfered and gave me advise on what I need to do because of this delay. I asked her when did they do the transfer. FEB 11TH . HMMM how ironic the same day I called them is when they take their lazy selves over to the DMV to do the tag transfer. Went went to Doug Henry to buy a 2018 Dodge Caravan that we found posted online. It was the right color, model and had low mileage and price range that we were looking for. We drove over an hour from Sneads Ferry to this dealership. When we saw the vehicle in person it was covered in bird droppings and had a few more scratches and dings than what was advertised on the website (it had also been on lot for 155 days). We figured no big deal. The bird droppings will wash off and hopefully they would come down on the scratches on the front and rear bumper, the small rip in the leather seat and some of the interior flaws. Yes, it was a used vehicle anyway and was going to be used for our newborn who would eventually mess it up anyway. The sales woman Rickell, who was very friendly, asked where we were coming from today. We mentioned Sneads Ferry and she asked if we were military. We said yes and she told us that we would get a military discount of $500 which we were excited about. We didn't even know that was something that was offered at this dealership. She then worked up some numbers and went to talk General Sales Manager. She came back very quickly with no change to the sticker price fo $16,087 and informed us that they couldn't give us a military discount because the GSM said they (the dealership) wouldn't make any money off the car. They offered the sticker price of $16,087 with tax and tags it finally came out to $17,345. At that point I was ready to walk out on principle alone because they offered something to us then retracted. My girlfriend talked me out of leaving so I decided to talk to the GSM myself. When I went to his office he seemed irritated that I was there and told me that he couldn't give anything off the vehicle sticker price or the discount because again, they wouldn't make any money. I said I would have appreciated it if he had come and told me that himself instead of playing the back and forth game with the sales women. He said he deals with a lot of customers and that is why he didn't come and tell me himself. Mind you, we were the only customers at the dealership. I was ready to walk for the second time but my girlfriend really wanted the van as we needed it to accommodate our newborn baby and the fact that we drove over an hour to the dealership. We went through the whole finance talk with the sales women and the finance guy and we decided to pay cash for the vehicle in the end. Not to mention the unsettled vibe we received from the staff when we said we wanted to go through our own bank Navy Federal. Four hours later, we came to a deal I was going to buy the car at sticker price for cash and only person who held this deal together was my girlfriend, I would have walked if it was just me. They sent the vehicle to get "detailed" and when it came back 15 minutes later it appeared as if all they did was wash off the bird droppings and maybe vacuum it out a bit. I was going to say something to the GSM about it but then realized he left for the evening at 5pm. We just bought a vehicle at $17,345 cash from Doug Henry and the GSM did not have the integrity to shake my hand or congratulate us before he went home. At that point we just wanted to leave and take our newborn home. I would clean it and detail it myself later. I just want to note aside from the dealership's leadership (GSM) the sales women Rickell and the finance guy (I can't remember his name) were very friendly and professional. If it wasn't for them, we definitely wouldn't have bought the vehicle. The finance guy seemed to know something was up and he probably sensed my frustration as well as the muddy process we just endured. He stayed and talked to us about his family and kids until the car came back from the detailing, followed us out the door and congratulated us both. WORST salesmanship I have ever encountered. Inquired on a vehicle weeks ago! Willing to put a down payment and buy it for asking price but was told multiple times to wait until it came out of maintenance. Called weekly to get updates and again, willing to pay asking price. We waited weeks for it to become available and were told by multiple salesman that we were at the top of the list for the vehicle the second it got out of Maintenance. When it came available, we were informed they sold it. When asked for a phone call from the manager, all we received were disrespectful and rude emails. Unacceptable customer service. I purchsed a used 2019 Ford Truck on Jan 29 2020. Although I am happy with the truck, The dealership grosly over finance charged my on INTEREST RATE. (I have a 810 credit score and they charged 5.6% rate) Plus the sold me a GAP plan for $895 (Super High) I decided to refinance with my Credit Union at 3.59%. The Credit Union GAP cost $399 (Just about $500 Less) When I call the GAP insurance company to cancel on Feb 15th, I discovered the dealership had NOT sent in the paperwork on the GAP. I called the dealership on the 15th also and asked about the GAP and paperwork. The told me it was not yet processed, and agreed to cancel GAP plan and send me a check. As of Feb 29, 2020 they have still not yet written me a check. I keep getting a run-arround. Making me promises to send the check and call me back. Excuses like "it was too late to mail" or "the lady was not there now" I have other negative things to say about this dealer but for now I want my refund! FIND A BETTER CAR DEALER THEN THIS ONE!!!!! I tried over the course of two weeks to make contact with the sales people at the Kinston NC facility....I went through 3 sales people and a finance manager over the purchase of a 2019 Overlander. The customer service was abysmal. I was passed from one sales person to another...thought I had a good one the 3rd time around. I had done an application two weeks prior to this past weekend and no one did anything with it. I asked several times after I received some of the information I needed to have the sales person call me back...sent emails...nothing. This would have been my 3rd Chrysler/Jeep vehicle I would have bought, but after this experience I would never deal with this dealership again. Pardon me, but I may have to post this twice in order to get a 10 star review. I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with my experience with Doug Henry of Kinston. Keith Mallory, Dan Bryant were as solid as anyone could want. I had been looking for an oversized Ford Transit with low milage since February. I live in Atlanta and had several dealers looking into acquiring an auction vehicle as well. Doug Henry had an offering that was too good to be true...or so it seemed. It was an eight hour journey that entailed an overnight stop to get there from Atlanta. The vehicle was exactly as described but with a discernible noise coming from the exhaust area. Dan and Keith were up to making it right. We spent a couple extra hours at the dealership on a Friday afternoon while they tracked down the issue. In the end they offered to pay for the muffler repair with a given allotment of money. Returning to Atlanta, it took almost a week but in the end, the diagnosis was correct and the appropriate fix was put in place. Now comes the good part. Before I could send them the invoices for reimbursement, they had sent me a check to cover the repairs! Amazing. The crew at Doug Henry is getting a Dodge dealership in the near future.
