Have a home reno project that quickly took on a life of its own and as result created a lot of construction debris which was formerly masquerading as my deck. Contractors had worked with BJ's team before on other projects, so Leo came by and provided an estimate to the contractors. Leo called the day before the crew to discuss terms and arrangements which were fine. Leon called me shortly after as Leo set the expectation for to secure a deposit, which we did by phone and I got an emailed receipt. Leon (Leo's son) and team arrived the next day with 2 trucks and got everything out of here in about an hour and ran my card for the rest of the charge. We had BJ's Hauling come to remove a hot tub that was built into our deck. Very happy with the work they did and would happily have them come do another project for us. They demo'd and removed the hot tub and a portion of the deck, as we requested. They were quick, cleaned up the yard and the street when they were done, hauled away a lot of stuff for us, and they didn't damage any of our property or the portions of deck we were keeping. We were able to schedule ahead of time, they called to confirm, and arrived on time. They had to come to our property to give a price for the work, so we didn't know the price ahead of time. But the cost was reasonable for the size of the job and cheaper than some other quotes we got. read more

Many years later, we have hired them to haul different sized loads and have always had a great experience. Don't hire these guys if you want your job completed properly. I hired them to spread some gravel as ground cover in my yard. I calculated 3-3.5 yards worth of gravel would be needed. Leo told me several times that I need more than that and to order 4.5 yards, so I did what he said, thinking he knew what he is doing and would make sure it all gets used up. Nope. They used about 3-3.5 yards of material (just as I had calculated) but left the rest for me to deal with. Then Leo told me it's my problem not theirs. Now I am spending a day doing the job I paid them $2800 for. Don't waste your time. read more

I know guys who go all Hank Hill for mowing the lawn. They can make a whole day out of it. They lovingly polish and tune up their lawnmower, put on special clothes and glasses, get out some frosty beverages and spend the entire afternoon carefully making each blade of grass look perfect. Not me, if I had my way I'd let the lawn grow to something the Adams Famiy or Munsters would love. But since I don't want my neighbors storming my house with pitchforks and torches to force me to tidy up, I hire BJ's( Actually Leo is the owner so I'm not sure where the name comes from). He, or his crew show up every week rain or shine, green lawn or brown to tidy up and make my house look not so crazy. Leo is a nice guy as are all of his crew. His monthly fee is unbelievably low. He lives in the CD and I really like supporting a local small businessman. They'll also do dump runs, and bigger jobs like brush removal for a small extra fee. read more

Got a fast reply to my online quote request and quickly scheduled an estimate. The estimate was very fair and they were able to begin the job immediately, which was convenient. Had a fairly big yard clean-up job including lots of pruning, mowing, and taking car of an overgrown tree/bramble mess. Yelp shows a "30 minute response time". I asked for a quote and immediately got a canned response from an account with no photo telling me to call a phone number. The phone number goes to voicemail (it's 2:20 on a Tuesday, normal business hours). Don't believe the quote tool. It's just a bunch of auto responders that go nowhere. Stop being shady and start being upfront about when and how to get a quote from a real person. read more

They are professional, hard working, efficient and friendly. I was very impressed. I will be hiring them again later this summer to clear out the rest of the stuff I need to get rid of. We phoned BJ's first to give our business to a local company in our neighborhood and were quoted $100 minimum to remove our brush pile/tree branches from our front yard. The pile was approx. 10 x 10 feet square and I'd say 4 feet in height. It maybe weighed 300lbs, give or take. It took them about 10 minutes to load up the pile and sweep. Upon their arrival, I went out to ask them how much it would cost and he said "about $350". I was stunned as I didn't prepare for this amount since we were quoted $100 minimum. As per the City of Seattle website, it costs "Clean Yard Waste $20 per trip, $110 per ton ($20 min. charge covers up to 380 lbs.) " so it is reasonable to think that it shouldn't be much more than their minimum quote. Additionally, they began loading the yard waste before I even got outside to greet them. http://www.seattle.gov/Util/MyServices/Garbage/DumpTransferStation/Rates/index.htm Dude was friendly enough, but I got a not-very-compelling explanation that it costs them more than me (as a private citizen) to bring yard waste to a transfer station and that is the reason for the higher quote. I feel that we were completely taken advantage of by BJ's Affordable Hauling and Lawn Care and now I know better. In retrospect, I should have said, "Leave the yard waste exactly where it is and we'll be calling somebody else to remove it." Caveat emptor!!! read more

We had a HORRIBLE experience getting some hauling done by BJ's. We used them because they were able to come almost immediately but it was not worth the tradeoff in the least. We were told that we would be quoted an amount when the workers arrived and if we accepted the quote, they could do the work right then. The quote seemed VERY high but we assumed that they knew something we didn't about how long the work would take etc. We paid them the full amount in cash (they charge more for checks?) and only afterward did we realize that they had worked for less than an hour for a very large sum. Knowing that we weren't entitled to any of our money back after agreeing to the price, I called the business just to voice my feedback & with the small hope that the owner would be reasonable and committed to customer service, and refund me some portion of the outrageous fee. He was not only rude on the phone but actually quite aggressive. THE OWNER THEN SHOWED UP UNANNOUNCED AT OUR HOUSE to continue the disagreement about the services provided, which I remained fairly reasonable about, not expecting anything other than my voice to be heard about how unfair we felt the exchange had been. He actually ended up getting in my face about this to the point that I felt intimidated and my partner had to ask him to leave our property. In the end we overpaid (our fault) and had a terrible business/emotional experience (clearly theirs). I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

Called them in the morning. Showed up at noon and started right away. My yard had become a jungle and they cleared it and did a fairly good job really fast at a price that was a little more than I hoped for but fair. The job was fairly heavy handed and not really detail oriented but the quality was acceptable. One of the principals was extremely foul mouthed. They had a young boy with them and I was very surprised to hear such language in front of a young boy but I let that slide. When they were finished they called me out to review as they were cleaning up. The same guy was urinating on my house in the back yard. I live in a nice Wallingford neighborhood and he was potentially visible. I told him that this was bad and I did not appreciate it and he argued for some time as though to indicate that this was perfectly normal. He finally apologized but clearly did not see what he did wrong. They won't be back to my place. read more

Based on Yelp reviews, I called BJ's for an estimate on a one-time lawn mowing job. Our lawn is fairly small (our lot is less than 3000sf) and usually takes me ~25 minutes with an electric lawn mower. BJ informed me that his guys would be out between 8:00 and 8:30am the next morning to give me an estimate. I agreed to stay home to speak with them about the estimate and, if agreed upon, authorize them to mow the lawn. Next morning, I receive a call confirming that the guys will be there between 8:00 and 9:00am. I reply that the initial agreement was between 8:00 and 8:30 (I'd put it in my calendar while on the phone the day prior). He states that it was 8 to 9. I have a 9:30am meeting downtown, but think I should be able to make it if they show by 9. 9:00--no show. 9:15--I call and leave a voicemail. (At this point I've canceled my 9:30 meeting.) 9:20--BJ calls, stating that his guys 'misunderstood' and went to their 2nd job first. According to him this was the first time in 12 years this has happened. He offers to do the job for 1/2 price. I appreciate him trying to make it right and agree to have his employee estimate the job later in the day, then call me. Around noon, his employee calls. He says that 'we can do the job for $225.00". At first I thought they either had the wrong house or didn't understand the job, so I clarified "That's just to mow the lawn--right?" He stated that, well, this is a first time appointment and the lawn is taller than normal; also that the job would be half off. That was still above what I'd expected to pay at regular price. We went back and forth a bit, but I ended the call stating "I don't think we're doing business together--I'll mow my own lawn." Which, thanks to a dry (enough) day, I did--in less than 30 minutes, even as long as it was. Shame nobody paid me $225 to do it (although I suppose I paid myself). I appreciate BJ having owned up to the scheduling issue and trying to make things right; that's why this isn't a 1 star review. But their estimated price for my job was utterly outrageous. I cannot recommend them based on that experience as I would be worried about what other, larger jobs might cost. read more

This world generally likes to fly by the seat of the pants; cash only, can't get them to show up at a scheduled time, hard to pin down a real bid, just generally flaky all around. But not BJ's. I was on the last day of my move, and had a few things that needed to go to the dump. Exhausted from moving, I decided last-minute I would rather pay someone to haul away my dump items. A quick Google search, I found BJ's. I spoke to the owner, and he let me know he had some guys in my area and they could be to me within a couple of hours. He also let me know that their minimum charge is $75. Less than an hour later, his workers called and were on their way. They were prompt, friendly, and fair w/ the quote - only the $75 minimum! Great experience today with the BJ's team! First, Johnny responded to my quote inquiry very quickly, and set up a time to meet the next morning - and gave me a heads up when they were on their way. I appreciate that level of communication. The team of 3 came ready to begin work, negotiated a very fair deal with me and got busy. We'd done a walk-thru my very small, but VERY overgrown yards with mature trees and hedges, and they accomplished everything we discussed in just a few hours. It was a big job, and I assumed it would take two days, or at least one very long day - but these guys don't mess around! My messy jungle of a backyard is now a clean canvas that I can breathe in and decide how to enhance. This service is not affordable. BJ showed up on short notice during the weekend and charged an inflated price to haul a moderate amount of material. Cost for commercial vehicles to dump yard waste at the south transfer station is $20 for the first 380 lbs, don't be fooled! If you are in a pinch and need something hauled asap, you'll pay a premium with BJs. If you want affordable removal services, you should look elsewhere. read more

Asked them to come out and give me an estimate for a seasonal yard clean up (mow and weed) for my overgrown but very small bungalow lot. Quoted me $450 (!) -- 8 hrs of work and hauling 6-8 loads of clippings. I don't have a lawn mower and was desperate to get the yard cleaned up in anticipation of a party, but this was crazypants. I said I'd let them know (as in no way). They then gave me a song and dance about how they thought they'd be doing the job right away and now had no work for the morning (I'd called them the night before and only asked for an estimate). I ended up getting on the phone with the boss and negotiating down several hundred dollars which was a royal pain and left a bad taste in my mouth. The work was fine but it only took them 1-1/2 hours to complete (no where close to 8) and I felt like I'd been had. If you have time and energy to negotiate I'm sure you could get a good deal, but I prefer that someone comes to me with a fair price to begin with. read more

I used these guys for lawn mowing, and while it started out ok, overall it wasn't worth the hassle. On the plus side, they were able to come and start service almost immediately (next day). I had to negotiate the price. After the first cut, I stayed with them for a few months. On several occasions I had to call to ask when they would come, since weeks would go by without service. It was always one excuse or another. Finally this month they told me I would only be billed for a partial month due to the issues, but the full bill arrived. I ended up getting in an argument with the owner, and cancelled service. If you need a one-time service these guys are probably fine. But I won't bother with them for regular care, as it just isn't worth the hassle. EDIT: Ok, the shadiness factor just increased considerably when the owner stopped by my house demanding payment. These guys live in my neighborhood - I see their trucks all the time - and I called them out of desperation today to move a vintage bottle fridge out of a Uhaul truck into my yard - long story there. Anyway, this thing is monster - incredibly heavy and massive - and these guys bid the job fairly, showed up on time, were totally courteous, and got the job done. Guy no. 1 says, *Uh...well if you're paying with check it will cost you x-amt of dollars...BUT if you're paying with cash, then it will cost x-amt.* So the kicker is the *Uh* - there's leeway there--throw out a dollar figure. Can't say enough good things about these guys! I was looking to hire someone to clean up my embarrassingly overgrown yard. They responded to my request for an estimate within hours -- the only business I contacted that responded same day, if at all. Less than 48 hours later, they had provided me with a very reasonable estimate and told me they could begin immediately. The men were courteous, efficient, and did a great job -- 2+ years of neglect eliminated in less than a day! My yard looks great! Clean up was very thorough. After trying to get 4 separate landscapers to call me back with no success I found these guys on Yelp and gave them a call. 45 minutes later they were at my house and ready to work. Not only did they clear out the gigantic (as tall as the house) weeds, they trimmed the tree, pruned the vines, cleared out the fallen leaves, AND hauled away several items that had been left outside for a couple of years that I was afraid to touch.
