Douglah review After living in our house for over 25 years, we decided to redo our kitchen - appliances, cabinets, floors, countertops, lighting, etc. We also wanted to update our laundry room and hallway bathroom. We were looking for a business that would handle everything from design to installation. We met with Leila Douglah and her staff in their showroom in Lafayette. Fast forward 2 years, and we now have a wonderful kitchen, laundry room and bathroom, and except for the purchase of the major appliances (refrigerator, ovens and cooktop), we never had to work with anyone else. We are very happy with the results, and while there were some snags in the construction process (that may or may not have been partly Douglah's fault), the entire process went professionally and smoothly. Douglah Designs is an all-in-one design/construction service. As you might expect, the total cost of the kitchen remodel was probably higher than if we did more of the legwork ourselves and used multiple vendors. But there are certainly advantages to offset the increased expense. The project was seamless and professional. Many of the craftsmen that Douglah Design uses are employees, not contracted. There is no finger pointing between designers and contractors; they all work together to use make things work. To us, the extra expense was definitely worth it. My wife and I are pretty picky when it comes to design, and Leila and her staff were very patient with us. We did have a similar esthetic, so we were usually on the same page from the start. Leila and Rachel Steely had a level of experience and industry knowledge that was a great advantage. Watching them work on the design and materials selection was very impressive and gave us high confidence that they REALLY knew what they were doing. As we realized, designing a kitchen is actually quite a complicated process, with thousands of details that we would not have even known about, let alone been able to address. But the designs and plans handled every detail and issue beautifully. Douglah recommended vendors and products with which they had experience and confidence, which saved us the trouble of having to vet each product, and which gave us confidence in the products. One limitation of working with Douglah Designs is that you are somewhat limited to products and vendors with which they are familiar and confident, so that may constrain your choices (and which may increase the cost of the project). But we felt that limited choices and extra cost were outweighed by the dependability and quality of the products that Douglah recommended. Overall, we were very happy working with Douglah Designs. They are not for everyone - if you have a different esthetic, or a different budget, or want more control over the process, you probably would be happier elsewhere. But if you want a top notch design and installation and have the budget, we highly recommend Douglah Designs. read more

Our first Douglah Design project was the kitchen remodel. It is such an upgrade that we continue to revel in how well it fits our lifestyle. From the excellent quality of design and workmanship to the clear, "no surprises" financial agreement to the consideration of all the Douglah staff, they have been very impressive. Their creativity in working with the space was essential in making this project such a success and so was their ethical behavior in handling a foundation surprise they encountered. The second project was the front entrance. Our house is 45 years old and it needed a more inviting portal. We were so grateful to have Leila's experience and great taste to steer us to such attractive options. We love the result! The primary bath/laundry room project is our third with Douglah Designs and we have at least one more queued up with this outstanding company. The primary bathroom was just too tight and poorly designed. The door banged into the toilet which was just inside the door. The shower was too narrow. The room was poorly laid out and dated. Long before we met Douglah Designs we had hired a designer and contractor to remedy the situation, but they did not fix the problem. Douglah Designs did. We knew from previous experience that Leila and Rachel think outside the box. These talented designers truly collaborate. We were delighted when they found several alternative ways of opening up the cramped bathroom while still keeping the laundry area accessible. With this remodel, we not only got a spacious, functional bathroom, but now we have all sorts of much-needed linen closet storage. The workmanship is top-notch. Les was on the job on time every day. He let us know in advance when he would not be there and he was so very accommodating including reconnecting the washer and dryer when possible so we didn't have to go to a laundromat. He was very flexible and considerate. Douglah Design has earned our trust and loyalty. We feel like we are their favorite clients, yet we know that for them, this is business as usual. We are already looking forward to our next project with them knowing it will turn out even nicer than we can imagine. read more

We needed our master bathroom renovated after just 10 years. We had used a large low budget design company then, EXPO, and have suffered since. The team at Douglah Designes worked professionally and courteously throughout the entire project. This was the best experience we have ever experienced with a remodel project. I went to Douglah for a consultation with Cynthia, a kitchen designer there. She was so helpful, came in after hours to meet with me and gave me all kinds of mad good advice. My job is really small and budget laughingly low so not sure I will get a chance to work with Douglah. Still, she sat with me, giving out very good advice and counsel and looked at the pictures. She took into account how long we would live in the house, the value of the house, etc.. did not give me a hard sell. They didn't make any money off me but I really appreciate the advice and would recommend them based on this experience I had. The showroom is amazing too. read more

We went to Douglah Designs for our "small" kitchen remodel knowing they had a very good reputation, and came highly recommended. About a year ago, I made a call to Douglah from our home in Virginia. We were moving back to Lafayette and had bought an older home we wanted to remodel. We started making calls to see about redoing the kitchen. No other kitchen design company in the area would meet with us, or even talk seriously about working on a long distance remodel, except Leila. She returned my call, listened to my ideas, and met with me a week later in the Lafayette showroom. That was the start of a beautiful friendship and an amazing remodel that brought tears to my eyes when I stepped into my new kitchen for the first time. Douglah is outstanding because of Leila, and Leila hires only the best at what they do. I loved my designer, Cristina. There's no way I could have worked across the country with anyone but her. She's an expert at design, getting things done exactly right, and working with all the other people in the company who are crucial to your project. Everyone in the company has respect for each other, and that, I know, is due to their incredible leader. Phase 1 was completed in May, and Phase 2 was just finished last week. Our entire house had a Douglah makeover - hardwood floors, state of the art bathrooms, built in bookcases, one-of-a-kind rebuilt fireplaces, and, of course, our gorgeous brand-new kitchen. We did two major remodeling projects with Douglah Design, both of which turned about wonderfully. Our first project was two bathrooms. The second was our kitchen/family room which was a complete gut and start over project. Leila and her team were wonderful partners in designing the projects, selecting materials, and ensuring that execution of the project was as expected. Leila has a wide array of styles and materials available in her showroom and she is very skilled at listening to clients' needs and showing them an array of alternatives that fit their needs/desires/budget.
