Went here yesterday evening for the second time. I got exactly the same food I got the first time: thai green curry, bread and butter pudding with ice cream and a tea. Last night the curry was far too hot for a thai green curry. It was even hotter than a red green curry. I didn't fancy anything else off the menu as it's quite limited but the chef definitely over did it on the chillis. For what it is this place is quite expensive. I got the 19.95 special menu deal which worked out 15 cent cheaper than if I just ordered the exact same dishes off the menu separately... Not sure who thought up the specials but they obviously didn't put too much thought into them! I finished my main before my partner did and the waitress took my plate while my partner was still eating and she also asked me if I wanted my dessert. I told her id wait. On top of this other staff were hoovering around us which was just really rude and unprofessional. Nice decor and relatively friendly staff, but the coffee was absolutely terrible unfortunately -- I hate wasting a cappuccino but it tasted so burnt it was absolutely undrinkable. Also, because the space is so narrow, it gets very, very loud even when it isn't full -- might be ok for a quick work lunch but at a table of four we could barely hear each other over the din. I would have found it ok for a bar, but not for lunch. They did have gluten-free muffins to enjoy with our coffee (or without, in this case) so props for that. read more

Popped in for a late breakfast. Big mistake. While I was late, the breakfast bap wasn't. It had probably been cooked before I got up and reheated several times to the point of tastelessness. Everything was hard and/or overcooked. Black and white pudding could have done sterling service as hockey pucks. There was zero moisture of any kind remaining in the sad, singed and slightly browned egg. The sausages appeared embarrassed at their predicament and a single slice of bacon was tough and leathery. The bap had a toasty quality to it having no doubt sat under a warming lamp for much of the morning. Getting the picture? They had a nerve to charge 13 quid for this. The coffee was ok though. Hmmmmm I have mixed experiences with this restaurant. The one comstant in any restaurant is the interior so maybe i will start with that, inside D and K is really nice, its a nice bright inside (okay when you walk in the door it looks dark but you need to go in further to get to the bright part) you can even eat outside, hence the terrace name. the furniture is comfortable and roomy. my absolute favourite part ofthis place isthe bookshelf where you can take a bookaway with you as long as you leave a book in its place! how coolis that! anyway next are the staff. you have to wait so long to get served anything in here! well not all the time, bit the majority of tie this has been my experience, i dont know if its because its so busy or what but i do not think there is any excuse for how slow some of my visits here have been. the chips ( i sound like i eat alot of chips! in my reviews!) anyway you read the menu and expect some nice handcut fancy chipsbut no, you get a fancy cone of deep fried frozen chips instead, very disappointing (althoug i liked the cone!). THe other disappointing food experience i hadin here was their boxty which i ordered for breakfast one time, ugh, yuk yuk! this is not what boxty should be like,it was a rubbery cold pancake thing, not the lovely potato cirlces my nana used to make. still this place is a good location for a coffee and a cake and a chat with a friend. good if you want to spend a good while nattering because you will need that much time jsut to get through the service anyway! read more

I did not eat in so I don't have much to say on this cafe, but I bought some cakes to take away. Indeed, they have a very nice choice of gluten free cakes, so I bought a croissant, definitely as good as a bakery one, but still pretty good for a gluten and dairy free one, a blueberry muffin, definitely not bad, it was nearly the quality of a normal one, and a lemon pie that I did not try yet. Also, I've noticed that they proposed nearly every meal they had on their menu in a gluten free version, even the bagel and sandwiches, which is (unfortunately) so rare that it really have to be noticed. They also had some almond tarts, cherry pies, chocolate muffins, and a lot of other cakes, pastries and bread all gluten and dairy free ! Also the service seems pretty good because, as I was looking at the different cakes in the window, I did not have to wait a bit before someone came to ask me if I needed anything. read more

What is it with Dundrum and food? Despite having more eateries per square mile than anywhere in Dublin, I can't think of a single one I actually like eating in. Douglas & Kaldi is another to add to the list, but compared with the other places in Dubdrum, it's one of the best. The interior is open and bright, and a real change from the shopfronts. The food is nicely varied too. I had black pudding and apple on a crumpet (I know that sounds gross), and it was tasty enough. But there was nothing to really recommend. I guess when your competition is Starbucks and the Bagel Factory, you're not too worried about that. read more

The menu looked absolutely loved, and catered very well for vegetarians. However the service was shocking. Not only did we have to wait 10mins before being seated, it took 5 mins before the hostess even noticed us. When I went to ask about a table, she was incredibly rude and even gave me attitude. The restaurant wasn't even very busy. Finally when I food arrived, my mum's plate of food was placed so hard down onto the table that the food fell onto the table and the floor. The waitress didn't even apologise or offer to get another plate of food made up. Food was lovely but didn't make up for the overall disappointing experience. read more

I always like dropping into the terrace café when I am in Dundrum. While it is usually very busy at the weekends, the service is still reasonable. The food is very tasty. I would have given it a 4 star review, if it wasn't for the manic feeling you get when you are in there. What I do love though, is the fact you can sit out on a sunny day and actually see the sunshine! :) read more

Lots of gf options on menu, big portions, tasty smoothies and deserts look delicious next time I will have a desert seen as they do gf deserts too. I really like here for brunch. There aren't many good brunch spots in the Dundrum area (that I've found). I especially like their fruit smoothies and the pancakes. Their pancakes come with banana, mixed berries, and pecan nuts in maple syrup which is a delicious combination. There is often a wait for tables so be ready to queue. The general manager is very good and most times I've been in the staff have been very pleasant. Even though it is a busy restaurant its a nice spot to escape the noise and crowds of the shopping centre as its tucked away. It also has a big outdoor terrace for if or when the sun ever makes an appearance. read more

Completely gone down the drain. Despite the fact I could see several suitable tables we didn't get sorted for 10 minutes. The waiters are incompetent. The food was disgusting and greasy. Although that could be the pepper that exploded over my food when the salt/pepper shaker casually failed to work. I still can't believe I had to ask for a plate. The place was also stuffy and loud. Delicious food with a huge range of different choices. Have a large selection of gluten free dishes which is great to see! Lovely atmosphere and decor. Very comfortable and pretty. Staff are very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

The food in this restraunt is amazing, and the decor is nice too. The price is good for what your getting. One major problem I had was the terrible service. The waiters and waitresses look like they would rather be elsewhere. None of them have a good level of English. The sestet usually throws you at any table and walk of uninterested in your seating preference(inside, outside, by a window etc). I spent 2 hours in here recently. An hour and a half was that was waiting for food. I ordered a bagel and asked for cheese on it. The waiter clearly misheard me after I said it twice. I was then brought over tea. Which I sent back because I hadn't ordered it. I was then brought another tea by a different waitress. About 10 minutes later we finally got our drinks(the restraunt was not busy at all). We got our main dishes and they were completely wrong. We got them again, still wrong. We set them back a final time and they were still wrong. We at this point had gotten so fed up we spoke to the owner about it. He then gave us a big speel about why our order was wrong...at this point we had finally got the correct order and didn't really need an explanation, we just knew it was a break down in communication. We were offered a free diet coke for compensation for it. While paying they server then messed up our order again. I felt very unsatisfied leaving and very angry at the service. Food deserves and A+ while I wouldn't even give the service a rating it was that poor. If your looking for somewhere with nice decor and good food but don't care about the service then this would suit you. Unfortunately, I care about service and customer care and this establishment does not provide any sort of thing. read more

We went here after a trip out and had our 2 little monsters with us. I was happy enough as we had a pram with us and the waiter gave us a table where the pram could fit without being in anyone's way!! I like the bright terrace and as we arrived around midday it was starting to fill up. I love the way breakfast is served all day which makes me go for the French toast and bacon with maple syrup. The toast is fantastic and with the syrup I could eat it all day...but then the bacon lets it down, you know that sort of bacon...that's been under a heater about an hour....yuck. A big let-down. But the toast is so good that meh...ill not make a fuss! The Mrs had a BLT..same shitty bacon, and not an awful amount of the L&T, to be honest the sandwich looked a bit sad and depressing, and it didn't get any happier with what i think we're frozen chips beside it....obviously not served frozen :)..you get the idea! The little monsters got pasta with melted cheese...which turned out to be plain pasta, with melted cheese, there no point in complaining about receiving "exactly what was ordered" but again a bowl of plain pasta and cheese just looks a little..well sad! I had a caramel latte and the Mrs had a hazelnut....they were quite nice although a little too sweet for my tastes. I think the bill came to 30ish which is a little over the odds for what we got.
