I love having brunch here. I always get the bacon and pancakes and coffee for 8.50€. Once again…read morespace is at a premium. But they do offer patio seating. They serve Java republic coffee which is turning into be my favorite. The servers are always friendly and efficient. The place is consistently packed which is a good sign. I have not had dinner here for a long time. So I cannot comment on that. Will update my review when that happens.

Howards Way has been on the to-do list for a long time... I mean, a VERY long time (since I lived…read morebeside the original one in Rathgar when I was a broke student). More recently the Gra* to try was only heightened by seeing the queues of people patiently waiting to get into the Churchtown branch every Sunday morning as I passed on the way to do the weekly shop. This Sunday we got our chance, plans in the morning had changed which meant we were late leaving the house and were in need of a late lunch, the queue outside the café was small as we passed, I saw our chance and went for it. After only 15 mins we were seated, a comfortable table by the window and menus in hand. The menu has Q written all over it - chicken wings, open sandwiches, steaks.... Seriously... Q all over it! I ordered the all-day breakfast, junior the wings and fries and wifey had a pasta dish. Overall the grub was OK... it was all cooked perfectly and lookd great, it tasted OK too... but that's all, just OK. The quality of the ingredients wasn't what it should have been, it was surprising given how popular the place is. I'm glad we got to try the restaurant but no, won't be returning. *Irish for heart but also means to want passionately

Apparently it's been recently re done so you order at an…read moreappealingly laid out counter and get your food straight away - this should resolve some other reviewer's concerns about service and also is I think ideal for lunch where you might not have time to linger and want to pay upfront. The chicken pie looked magnificent with a huge pastry top and although I was initially slightly disappointed to realise there was no pastry base (apparently there is actually a very heated debate about whether it can therefore be a pie at all, of which I was previously unaware!) I thought it worked brilliantly with the slightly soupy insides, into which I bashed down the topping anyway. So not a classic pie certainly - perhaps a pot pie? - but in any case I'd recommend it, especially because it comes with a great selection of vegetables and salad. They are really flexible about what you get which was awesome because I fancied a combination the hot and cold options as so many looked so good. They were also really unusual - purple potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes and greens with beetroot puree. All very tasty, and from Irish farms, and in fact I think quite a lot of it from the Airfield estate itself. Hot chocolate was good too and there's a water tap where the cutlery is. Given the old country estate setting this is an ideal place to come if you'd like to experience a bit of nature, and it's very close to Ballaly Luas stop and the Dundrum shopping centre.
