Yum. I stopped for the night at a wonderful riverside hotel and asked for a nice place for dinner…read more They had a few recommendations but the Parrott House stood out. It is a Victorian Mansion. (With several ghosts) set on a hill. The food was delicious, the ambiance was delightful, and service was attentive but not "in your face". The whole evening was special.

It has been a year since I've been to the Parrot House and wanting to try their reinstated buffet…read more I like a buffet where you can try different foods. I really wanted to like this place because it's the one fairly fancy place in town...but, it was a disappointing experience. We got to the restaurant for our 10am reservation but the door didn't open until exactly 10. People huddled under the porch because it was raining fairly hard. We were shown inside, then back outside to another room to our table. We ordered and they said the buffet was in the tent-outside. So, coat & rain hood back on to go to the buffet. Unfortunately, the buffet wasn't ready so we went back to our seats. The buffet wasn't ready for around 20 minutes-because some of the kitchen crew called in sick so they were operating with less help. The remaining crew was working hard to get it set up. So they were doing a good job-they just needed more help. The buffet had: Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon, Sausage, Biscuits & Gravy, Jalapeño Cheddar Bagels, Smoked Salmon, Salad, Dressing, Potato Dill Soup, an Omelet bar and Prime Rib. Unfortunately, most of the food we got wasn't warm. I think the top of the chafing dishes were able to cool off, even though, the bottom was hot. Didn't know that until going back in. Thats a dangerous situation where bacteria can grow. The bread was excellent. It was a chewy Italian bread. The butter balls were firm so hard to spread. There were bagels and smoked salmon but it would have been nice to have something other than just jalapeño cheddar bagels for the smoked salmon. Maybe, get something more neutral in flavor that more people would eat. I think I have fairly normal tastes and love biscuits & gravy but the biscuits and gravy had an odd flavor to me. I wasn't a fan but that may be a preference. The prime rib was ok but not terribly tasty. The Potato dill soup was just ok, too. The omelet bar probably was the safe choice since you pick your ingredients but I make those often at home so I wanted to try other things. I think they are trying to be fancy instead of just making good food that everybody would like. Service was good. We did have to wait for coffee but overall they were nice and did a good job letting people know when the buffet was ready. Overall: Ambiance is 5/5; Service 4/5, Food-the temperature, late food and having to walk in the rain to the tent and back with a plate of food while getting rained on drops the overall score to 3/5. Opening that heavy door with a plate of food is a problem, too. Maybe have the tent right outside the entrance to the main dining room so your customers and their full plates don't have to be out in the rain. There has to be a better way.

I was a bit shocked to exit the 4th floor elevator to find an open air walkway to all rooms. Upon entering the room, which seemed clean but dated, I was surprised to see a door at the back of the room with a deadbolt. There was a balcony out there with chairs and a small table. It was dark, but I could see reflections off the water four stories down. A lake? The pool and work out space is modern and inviting. The lobby fireplace is quite the impressive feature. Decor there is beautiful. What a unique property! So glad I stayed here. Breakfast was closing down when I finally got to it in the morning. But coffee was hot and scrambled eggs still warm. Enough to get me on my way.

We had stayed here before a few years back and it was good with wonderful views. This time it was like arachnophobia. The first day we didn't get in to sleep until too late so pretty much just went to bed. The second night we were back earlier and that is when we noticed just how many spiders we had slept with. Now to begin the dog friendly rooms are on the bottom floor outside of the main hotel while still connected. We had room 100, which was the end room. When we checked in and I opened the drapes a spider fell out of them onto the a/c panel but mv husband came and took care of that as I HATE spiders. No biggie it happens right...well forward to the second evening I was sitting sideways on the bed and a spider ran across my pillow in my bea....um no thank you... I killed it and wasn't happy. My daughter then said to look above my headboard and there was another type of spider on the wall. I told my husband oh no we need to change rooms and he said no way it was just two spiders ...hahaha. About an hour later my daughter went into the bathroom to shower and when she came out she said there was a spider in the shower and did I see all the spiders in the bathroom...um no. So I went into the bathroom and above the light fixture above the sink you could tell had not been cleaned in ages and there were in fact a few smaller dead spiders and two daddy long legs they don't bother me as they don't really move), then she told me to look in the door frame and again another daddy longleg. My husband was already in the covers going to sleep and said it's fine we aren't moving cause we are leaving in the morning. I was ready to sleep in the car but it was like 34 degrees outside so that wasn't the best idea. So turned off the lights( mistake) and my daughter and I started to watch tv. Lights off, spiders out...we counted 18 spiders in our room that night. As you can imagine I didn't sleep well and covered my head in a shirt lol. On checkout we told the lady at the desk about the issue and the spiders and unfortunately she wasn't surprised. She was very nice and said that yeah the end rooms seem to get a lot of spiders...! asked why they don't use pest control to get rid of them I mean come on. There are ways to take care of this. I told her I didn't want to sleep in that room and she said she wouldn't have either with spiders. She gave us $30 off our bill and apologized. Let's just say I don't think I will be back to stay. I filled out the survey and at the end it asked if you wanted to be contacted by management but of course I never was and I also put a review on there form for their website but it was never published. The view was wonderful but the spiders ruined it all.
