Ah, yes! Back for our third time at the wonderful Dogwood. We met Tez and Melissa and Mary-the new owners. They have made some changes but only good ones! There are now mini-splits for heat and cooling. Quiet and effective. I think the TV system has been improved to include Hulu and new TVs. They now have internet that works! I'm so grateful for this place and these people. I love the kitchenette. What fun to cook in that cute little electric Amana oven! We had some great baked potatoes! The refrigerator works so well and is of great capacity to keep all the food and beverages. They now have a wonderful bar soap in the rooms that is locally made. Here's to hoping the Dogwood never changes much! Best place to relax and use as home base for some fun on the north Umpqua. read more

We have camped along the North Umpqua for decades. It is a very special place to our family. This summer we decided to stay at the Dogwood Motel and are so glad we did. We rented the main townhouse and that allowed us the space and comfort to host family and friends. Tez, Melissa and Mari keep the grounds tidy and beautifully landscaped. The townhouse is fully equipped and roomy. There are covered porches front and back. We look forward to our next visit. We stayed at the Dogwood Motel. The cabins are a just that - cabins. They are very clean and everything works. The beds are comfortable and you have everything you need. There is also a townhouse available, which I toured and it is VERY, VERY nice - luxury hotel experience nice. Norman, the person who runs the place was exceptionally pleasant to interact with and gave some great advice on which of the local waterfalls to tour. I would definitely recommend Dogwood Motel to anyone. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Dogwood Motel. The cabin was cozy and clean (thanks to Kathy who was attentive and friendly!) and the owner, Norm, was an absolute gem. The grounds were well-maintained with beautiful flowers and a pristine koi pond. Norm encouraged us to check it out and feed the fish and gave great tips on where to eat nearby. There's river access across the street which was fun for the dogs and included a quiet, secluded little beach where you could enjoy sunset and the sounds of the river. I would recommend the Dogwood Motel to anyone exploring the Umpqua Forest and hot springs or anyone just passing through this sweet little town. read more

Great quiet spot. It's not exactly off the beaten path, it's on the main East-West highway, but still quiet and pleasant. Fishing, hiking, or just sightseeing . . . this is the place to hangout or just find a comfy overnight. Bring something to eat and use the BBQ, sitting under the night sky is awesome for us City folk. Be sure to visit with the owner, Norm and ask him to tell you about the beautiful Koi Pond. My two boys and I stayed here on our way to Crater Lake. We were here just to get a good night sleep and take off in the morning. We made the reservation sight unseen and it ended up being better than we anticipated given the price. It was super clean and well maintained. This place is run by the owner (Norman) and he has lived there for decades. He really takes care of his place with freshly cut and edged grass, manicured dahlia gardens, etc. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel this is not the place. If you are looking for something simple that is super clean and well maintained you won't find anything better. read more

Very cosy motel- we came as a family of 5 at around 9 pm . we got a very clean room and pleasant hospitality from the owner. Beautiful yard which was done by the owner. We had such good time there that we are planing to go there again. read more

Five stars considering the price (75 bucks or so a night for a room with two beds and kitchenette). Very clean and well-kept and the owner, Norman, clearly cares and takes pride in his business! Norman is also a master koi keeper (is that the word?) and has a very cool koi pond in back of the motel. Note: koi tend to freak out dogs! Other good stuff: owner gives you free bags of ice. Kitchen was well stocked (except the forks were super tiny, like shellfish forks! This did help us with portion control, however.). Good location near some awesome waterfalls/hiking. Dog friendly, although the owner seemed reluctant, which was a bit odd because our last night there I think every room had at least one dog! As I said, five stars for the price. There are a couple issues though, if you are visiting in the summer: 1. It can get hot here and the rooms only have one window that opens. It cools down so nicely at night it would be great to be able to let some outside air in because... 2. The AC was SUPER loud, like so loud you can't keep it on while you're trying to sleep. All in all we would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

We stayed overnight at this motel to be picked up the next morning for a rafting trip down the Umqua river. The owner is one of the most friendly and accommodating man we have had the pleasure of meeting. The rooms were clean as were the motel grounds. There is manicured grass, flowers, and not the least a great Koi pond full of fish. We were allowed to park our car while we were rafting and even had an area to change clothes to make the trip home. We will stay there again. read more

Pros: 1. Next to the Umpqua River with river access. 2. Norman is a nice guy with a cute property with koi ponds and barbeque grills. 3. WIFI available. 4. The kitchenette was a gas stove (at least in room #6, made it easy for cooking). Cons: 1. Construction of a house (i.e. drilling, blaring country music) started at 6:00 AM with no notification of the manager. 2. Stayed there in June, in the high 80's. Very little air flow through the room, stuffy. Only one or two small windows can be opened. 3. Air conditioning is so loud you can't sleep, the unit is also above one of the beds. 4. The stove for our kitchenette didn't work at first, but Norman got it to work. 5. Probably not the best for kids as it's right along HWY 138. Not super busy but the trucks going through there drive FAST. 6. Lastly, no shampoo or conditioner. Bring your own. read more

Cute little spot amidst a natural paradise. The owner Norman was very friendly and hospitable. Additionally, the room was quite nice, clean, and roomy. There was loud construction on site in the morning although we were warned by Norman before booking the room so it was all good. The fridge in the room was excellent and stored many things including quinoa and curry. Overall a pleasant, natural ambiance in a cozy, homey room. An experience well worth the reasonable price. read more

We were lucky to find Vacancy with very short notice. Owner was very friendly and informative with great recommendations for local sites and food. Surprisingly beautiful gardens and landscaping with a gorgeous little koi pond and gazebo in the back. Great location: start of waterfall highway! The cabins are older but we liked the rustic log cabin feel. Fresh flowers from the garden on the table in our room. More great information for local sites provided in the room as well. 5 stars for location and grounds and the. Very nice owner. Four stars fior the room. We stayed 2 nights in a kitchenette room. Large, clean room a bit dated. Did 2 two days of hiking the waterfalls and the north umpqua trail. Room was $75/night. Not many eating options (roséburg is about 25 miles away) so having a kitchenette was grest. The stove and some of the kitchen utensils need upgrading. read more

Well this place gets 5 stars for location, and the wonderful people who run this little gem. Norman and staff make every effort to accommodate you and make your visit a pleasure. While it is very rustic, it is clean, comfortable and suits it's surroundings. If you want city digs...this isn't the place. If you want a lush forest setting with real people and comfortable digs.....this is it! Flat screen tv, wifi, fridg, microwave etc. BBQ available and fisherman's station. The best part is the huge Koi pond! Norman is an expert and happy to share his craft. We will be back again and again! read more

Fantastic get-away!! Right on an amazing stretch of river, perfect for our fishing vacation. Stayed in the cabin with a kitchen, had everything we needed to cook meals, great full size gas stove, pots and pans, utensils, etc. The room was the perfect size, 2 beds, dining table, comfortable bathroom, great huge heater that made the place cozy FAST! Sweet log cabin feel decor, clean, WiFi, dog friendly!! The grounds were lovely with lawns, landscaping and an incredible pond with BEAUTIFUL tame HUGE koi! Norman was a great host, friendly, and courteous. We will definitely be back, can't wait to see the place in springtime! read more

Motel room had unreliable heating all night. When motel mgr. came to inspect, he told us to use a butter knife to reset breaker inside heater housing, which only worked once. And in the morning we saw that doing so could've electrically shocked us, as there were exposed wires. When we complained in morning and asked for partial refund, motel mgr. told us he'd consider doing so if we cleaned our room instead of his housekeeping staff. Flabbergasted, we asked why, and were told "because our dogs had been on the bed". This after paying a pet deposit, and going without heat for the night. Oh, and the koi pond motel mgr. recommends seeing? Be careful, as what he doesn't tell you about are the motion activated sprinklers designed to scare deer, and the inadvertant soaking you'll get. This adorable little motel is an absolutely fantastic stop for families with kids. We stayed in the brand new family unit in the back - it was away from the road, quiet, extremely spacious with a full kitchen, downstairs living room with pull out sofa bed and wood burning stove, upstairs loft with 2 double beds and a master suite with a queen and full bath and an additional downstairs bathroom. Very clean with beautiful views of the trees and a koi pond with fish the kids got to feed. It is a great location for river swimming holes, waterfalls and even hot springs. It would make a terrific base for exploring the beautiful river with children. Our host, Norman, was kind and helpful and clearly cares deeply about his guests. This place is an absolute treasure!! read more
