How nice to be welcomed with a smile and a "I'm glad you're here" attitude! And, dog friendly as well. (Not the case with some other wineries in the area.) They have an extensive wine list; so my husband and I each did a tasting of 6 ($10), and then ordered the smoked salmon plate ($25). We then took a seat out on the terrace overlooking the beautiful winery and vineyard. Not long after we were seated, we were served our wine flights and salmon plate. Let me first say that the smoked salmon plate was beautifully presented and very delicious. The salmon was tender and moist, accompanied with cream cheese and a wonderful pepper jelly. Oh, so good. My wine flight was mostly whites. My favorite tastes were the sauvignon blanc (not a typical suave blanc, less acidic with a smooth finish); the chardonnay, and the rose. But I enjoyed all the wines I tasted. Also note that they have a small gift shop with some very cute items. I'm so very glad we came here. Great staff, great views, great food and great wine. I want to preface this by I am writing this on behalf of my parents and their experience. They don't have Yelp We are long time patrons of this winery and I really hope Wayne reads this with an open heart and mind. Your new catering manager, Lee, is not welcome to go from table to table spouting her love for Trump. Some of us don't want to hear it and have it ruin our evening. We were held hostage for almost 20 minutes by her speaking with a table mate at the wine event on Friday. And we weren't the first table or the last table she did this to. Is this what you pay her for? We couldn't tell if she worked for Trump or you. We like your events and will continue to come to them but please ask her to keep politics at her own personal events and not mine, especially one where I am giving you MY hard earned money. Have her do the job you hired her to do and talk about her personal beliefs on her own time not mine. read more

The setting is beautiful - breathtaking. Unfortunately, the wine server, Robin is not very friendly or knowledgeable about the wines at all, which took away from the actual experience. Beautiful winery & event place. Wines are good & in the past we've enjoyed their events with music. We brought a large group to the Sept 10 wine down Wednesday to celebrate a family bday. I called ahead to make reservations & was informed Melrose sets up for 200 guest so arriving early to save a table was advised. (Which we did securing our table for 20) We all purchased $18 dinner ticket as well as multiple bottles of wine with some choosing slushies or beer. Let's just say we dropped some $$$. However...the dinner was pathetic. A tiny bun 1/4 the size of a standard hoagie bun, with grizzled thin sliced beef a few strips of bell pepper, kettle chips & a small piece of watermelon. Certainly not worth $18, but what's really sad they ran out of food. My question is why not announce the miscalculation of food needed? 5 ppl in our party got little or no beef for their tiny bun nor did they get chips. Yet no refund was offered! I was hosted for a luncheon and tasting here with a group of fellow wine bloggers, and I enjoyed everything about this winery. Melrose Vineyards is located near the South Umpqua River and the owner (and all-around down-to-Earth farmer) Wayne Parker is a real gem. He planted the original vineyard here in 1996 and in a few years, began selling his fruit to other wineries. Soon, Wayne decided to start his own boutique winery. Today, that tasting room sits in a photogenic barn that's a century old. The tasting room is part wine sampling station, part gift shop. If you're looking for wine-themed chotchkes or a souvenir to carry back home, this is your place. From necklaces to magnets to gourmet food items to t-shirts, the boutique at Melrose has what you're looking for. I had a ton of fun browsing the various knick-knacks for sale. There's a large tasting bar and a small outdoor balcony with a couple of tables and stunning views of the landscape. I would recommend trying to snag one of the outdoor tables if you're here for a tasting but if they are full, at least step outside to snap a few photos. My group was served a light and bright lunch from the winery's chef, who also helps cater group events. We were served a portion of vegetable lasagna with a small salad and garlic bread. The food was all vegan (even made with fake "cashew cheese") and while I was skeptical, it did taste good and was made with farm-fresh ingredients. Due to Wayne's outrageous hospitality, he literally poured anything any of us wanted. Yes, anything. I finally stopped at a dozen wines, although I wanted to try it all. I kept asking Wayne what I should try next, and he didn't steer me wrong. Out of the wines I tried, there were a couple that I found to meet or exceed my expectations. The first was the Parker's Pinot Noir (priced at $45, this was the most expensive wine for sale). This wine had a long finish and slightly harsh tannins that probably need a few more months to a year to calm down. But the structure and flavor of this wine was very good. On the opposite spectrum, the $18 Two Dog Red was a fantastic poolside sipper. This blush wine is bright pink with an adorable, eye-catching label that was created by an artist from Hawaii. You may be drawn in by the gimmicky name and cartoon label, but this is a crowd-pleasing wine with crisp, slightly sweet pineapple and cherry fruit notes. This is a wine that even your friend who swears she "doesn't like wine" will not only be able to drink, but will likely love. For those seeking a white that's a little bit different, try the Pinot Gris ($20). With its pale straw color and melon-heavy nose, this wine is also interesting enough to recommend. It's worth mentioning that there's something wine-wise here that will fit into almost everyone's budget. The wines are very fairly priced, with the most expensive bottle topping out just below $50. To me, Melrose offers a real Oregon experience. From the extensive porfolio of myriad varietals to the renovated old barn, it doesn't get much better. We just attended MELROSE Wineries last of the season Wind Down Wednesday even. We hadn't been to this winery since they had Music in the Vines on Thursdays. We had a large group attending for a couple birthdays. MELROSE charged $18 for their dinner. Not only were the serving sizes extremely small they ran out of food way before a lot of people (who had stood in line) received their meal! Do you think they offered a refund or even made an announcement that they were sorry they ran out of food? They charged $18 a piece for a tiny sandwich that was smaller than an English muffin, accompanied by thin sliced watermelon and a meager helping of kettle chips. How can you run out of inexpensive things like watermelon and potato chips? I will say that never again when we patronize MELROSE VINEYARDS! One of the main reasons we have avoided this winery for a couple years now is that we found out they use toxic Round Up around their grape. read more

Good wine, plus lovely setting plus fun tasting room plus friendly staff, plus fair tasting policy easily results in four stars. Our expectations were exceeded. We're glad we visited Melrose and are happy to recommend it to others. The tasting room is in an old barn in a lovely setting looking out on the vineyard. I tried to capture it in photos, but I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't take photos inside the tasting room. It's big and open and funky charming, easily accessible for everyone and chock full of wine related gifts and goodies. It also has a great view out the back to the vineyard. And it's chilly in there - take a sweater. Founded by Wayne and Deedy Parker in 1996, Melrose's grape growing and wine production effort shows the benefits of hard work and community engagement. As evidenced by the phone almost ringing off the hook while we were there (April) with folks calling to reserve a spot in a crab feed that was just announced and scheduled for JULY. To be held at the beautiful event center that sits at the edge of the vineyard, it is one of several events sold out in advance every year we were told. We're not surprised. If we lived closer than 3 hours drive to Roseburg, we'd go too! We were surprised to learn, seeing the size of the Melrose vineyards, that only about 10% of the grapes they grow end up in their own bottles of wine and the rest are sold to other winemakers. Surprising because they bottle a lot of different varietals, both red and white. Tasting is free for three( metered) pours and there is a modest fee ($5?) for six pours. We decided to try all reds and our line up of six included Baco Noir, Pinotage (a varietal hybrid created from Pinot Noir and Cinsault), Dolcetto, Syrah, a blend called Equinox (Dolcetto, Tempranillo, Baco Noir and Syrah) and Port. We carried away the Baco, Equinox and Port. But all were fun to try and were wines we would drink again. If you're visiting the North Umpqua wine region, you'll be happy if you add Melrose to your wine tasting itinerary! read more

Love the wine here! There's not a single variety of red that I don't love and wouldn't get a bottle of. The tasting room is cute and full of things to purchase and the grounds are Beautiful. They also host plenty of special events which is nice. The only downside I could even mention is that the staff is sometimes hit and miss. Most times you get a pleasant person in the tasting room, but on occasion I've ran into someone who just doesn't seem to have the temperament to work with the public ‍. But I'm still going to give five stars because the dogs are almost always there and they make up for any sour puss attitude at the tasting counter read more

Great stop over from Portland to Medford area, just west of Roseburg. In a nice little community called Melrose. The history of the winery is very interesting. They have a balcony/patio overlooking the area makes for a pleasant setting to have a glass of wine and snacks like empanadas that they served us. We really enjoyed the easy stopover not to far off I5, but far enough to provide some scenery getting there. The wine was good, and we bought several bottles to take with us. They had Pinotage which one doesn't find too much in Oregon, that we happen to like. We would stop over again without hesitation. read more

We are members of Harvest Hosts RV club that networks with farms, wineries, golf courses and other attractions for travelers to overnight. Melrose Vineyards was our first time using it and we absolutely loved it and Wayne and his sister really made our stay there a great experience. This was one of the worst experiences in a winery. When my wife and I came in, we told the lady at the counter that we wanted to share a tasting because we were going to be hitting a few other wineries that day. She poured us less than one tasting amount. She then began to tap her fingers on the counter like we were troubling her, or taking up her time. As for the wine...it was kind of gross. I don't think "sour" should be a tasting note. Maybe it was because the wine pourer was so rude that it made the wine taste boring. We won't be back. read more

This review is mostly based on the experience of visiting the vineyard, rather than the wines per se. That's because we've gotten used to California wines, and are especially fond of red wine. Although we're working on it, we're not yet able to perceive the charms of Oregon reds. Having said that, our favorite California region is Paso Robles, and a few years back visiting vineyards there felt intimate and small-farmer real. Not so much in recent years, alas, although we continue to adore the actual wines. Visiting southern Oregon vineyards today is like the old days in Paso. And the whites and rosés are usually nice, sometimes lovely. This vineyard has a gorgeous location. We were there too early to eat our picnic lunch; next time we'll plan more carefully. The dogs are adorable. The server in the tasting room couldn't have been nicer. They have frequent events on the grounds, and we'll definitely watch for a chance to catch one, if only for the opportunity to drink in the view, and scratch the dog's ears. read more

On a recent wine tasting with friends we actually had an employee tell us "we couldn't have free wine all day". This after 22 of us paid out a $10 fee and we had only been there about 5 to 10 minutes..safe to say, none of us will be back and as a local I was actually considering using Melrose for an upcoming wedding venue.
