He's pleasant, thoughtful, funny, and empathetic. Truly, I can't say enough good things about him. Hell, I wish we were friends. He's great. That said, his clinic at Wellstar Paulding closed and he fell off the face of the earth. I've called all the hospitals in the area, including Emory where he did his Residency, thinking maybe they kept up with doctors who went through their program. I've tried it all. I think I finally figured out where he is, but they were so cryptic on the phone and said they couldn't give him a message from me. I just want a referral to a new Neuro, if he's no longer taking patients. Is he? No clue. They closed up shop at Wellstar and didn't give any warning or get me in to see him one last time before he left. I was due for an appt around the time they closed, as I go in regularly. If anyone sees this and knows him or if Dr. Morton sees this, himself, please reach out. (Miss you, Doc! You're the best!) If you're not taking patients anymore, please contact me to point me in the right direction. I'm having a hard time finding a new doctor. If he gets to a clinic where he is taking patients again, I swear to you you'll never regret choosing him as your doctor. He's amazing and I'm so bummed he's not my Neuro anymore.

The pain was excruciating, resulting in me having to go to the emergency room because the pain was so bad that it was adversely impacting my blood pressure. Due to multiple trips to the emergency room I was admitted. The attending physician in her discharge notes referred me as normal to an orthopedic specialist, but she also mentioned that there was a neurosurgeon in the Piedmont Physician's Group that she would like for me to obtain a consult. Of course the Ortho doctor initially ordered PT which did not help me and after 2 months of that, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gates, for the first time, a doctor actually listened to me. He ordered a nerve study and other test and more x-rays and when I returned for our consultation, he took time, we reviewed the results and he provided a diagnosis and plan of action. Diagnosis, sciatica and my L4 & L5 disc had slipped and was pinching my nerves. At this time I am on a walker. I had gone in less than 6 months from high impact aerobics to living, breathing and with every movement of my body being in horrible pain & only able to be slightly mobile on a walker with no relief regardless as to the strength of the pain medication. So very thankful for the ER's referral to Dr. Gates! He was caring, listened to my concerns and fears and provided me with a comprehensive plan of action that included a foraminotomy procedure that restored my quality of life and removed constant, tingling in my (R) leg and hip and living without constant pain and discomfort. Thank you Dr. Gates for your professional, caring approach to patient care. In my months of care with this physician, he only presented himself as a physician that was 100% dedicated to improving my health! 2 years later and I am still happy and pain free! The staff at the check in window couldn't be bothered with patients. And the nurses never select patients to go back based on their appointment time. I think they just pick up a clip board and call names out. Also they don't answer the phones right away. Callers are forced to go thru a frustratingly slow and sloppy menu that often leads to voice mail - and then you end up calling again because they never seem to call back. I wish Dr Weaver would hire a practice manager and staff that respected appointment times and answered the phones!

Dr. Holmes is THE best neurologist!…read more Firstly about him. He is seriously one of if not THE kindest doctor I have ever had. He is just so kind, compassionate, and patient. I was really nervous on my first appointment, and I am incredibly shy, but his pleasant nature made me feel so comfortable. Also, I want to add a quick story that only shows a fraction of how generous and empathetic he is. I had an appointment in November, but I got COVID and I had to cancel. Obviously there were no slots available until after the New Year, but for insurance reasons, I BEGGED to be seen. I was told that he had to approve it, and he did. So, he was able to squeeze me in right before New Years Eve or so. My senior dog that means everything to me was extremely ill around that time. I was basically her caretaker 24/7, even leaving her alone for the appointment made me anxious. I was also lucky if I got 4 hours of sleep, every few days. I was at my limit. I was afraid every day that I would wake up and she wouldn't be alive. That day, she was particularly ill and i had to do A LOT for her before I could leave her alone, and it took me longer than usual. I was also soooo sleep deprived and sluggish. I got there late. And my appointment was supposed to be squeezed in as the very last appointment for the day. The front office told me my appointment had been cancelled. That and all of the stress, sleep deprivation, and worry for my dog just came together and I lost it. I burst into tears (I NEVER cry in front of people!) and I was desperately trying to wipe my eyes because I was so embarrassed. I felt so defeated. The guy in the front (love him!) said he would talk to Dr. Holmes. He explained my situation as I silently wept alone in the waiting room, and Dr. Holmes agreed to see me. He did not rush me out, he didn't downplay anything, or acted AT ALL like I had inconvenienced him, even though I had. He also told me on his own how sorry he was about my dog. He made the practice stay late for me. That's a huge deal! (Note: I did apologize to almost everybody there personally) I don't forget things like compassion, kindness, and mercy when one is down. He showed that to me when I felt defeated and alone. It meant the world to me. I will never forget that. (And I thought he was the best before!) So end of the story, but he also really listens. the front office overbooks like crazy, but he doesn't rush you out of the room. I had been suffering for migraines for about ten years and NOBODY was taking me seriously. He immediately told me his opinion and he validated everything I said. He believed me and it's been almost two years since the first appointment and I am doing so much better. He really cares and I would never see any other neurologist. He has an amazing personality PLUS he knows his stuff! I want to bring up an issue that I have seen on the negative reviews about his staff. Those negative reviews REALLY bother me because when they rate so low because of the front, it doesn't hurt the front. It hurts Dr. Holmes and makes him look bad. When you are looking up doctors and recommendations and you know nobody, you look up doctor's ratings. His reviews are so low but they ALL are because of the staff. He has nothing to do with who the front hires or what they do. I hate that he is rated so low despite him being absolutely amazing. It's really hard to trust internet reviews because of this. When you google him to see reviews, it just shows his name on the Yelp result and a poor rating. That isn't fair. I highly recommend going, even though it IS hard to make an appointment because he's in such high demand. it's worth it to me. He's amazing and I have so much respect for him!

I told him I had a nerve study done over a year ago with little to no answer for neuropathy diagnosis. He preceded to tell me he was not interested in repeating the same test and had no answers for me and would not be able to find out the why. If he wanted past records then his office should have requested them prior to the appointment. After hearing this I was upset and raised my voice a little out of frustration. After 2 years and unknown pain any patient would be. 4 doctors, no answers, decreased mental health, decreased quality of life, constant pain makes a person frustrated and upset when they walk into another specialist only to be turned away with no help. I expect better from the medical community and especially someone who is supposed to be a specialist in their field. Where is your care, your compassion, your empathy for patients in excruciating pain? Do better Dr Hall. Do better. Put yourself in your patients shoes.
