DO NOT GO HERE. The mechanics themselves just want to do their jobs, but the manager dude (I guess his name is Josh?) is shady asf and talks down to women. Nick had previously resealed the transmission pan on my Subaru (it was leaking before when I had tried to seal it myself with an anaerobic sealant). So he fixed it, but it started leaking again. It's a known flawed design from Subaru (the pan doesn't use a gasket but just mates metal to metal) and so it's a common issue with subarus. Anyway, Josh tried to gaslight me and tell me that the leak was actually coming from the output shaft seal because "the wind was pushing the oil leak down and making it look like the pan was leaking." In reality, he just didn't want to redo the repair because it would cost him time x money on his own dime + expensive CVT fluid. He thought he could just gaslight me about what was happening as a solo female and I'd just pay up. Well, I didn't take his bs bait. This is exactly why I started doing my own repairs on my car because you can't trust these dudes. At the very least, Josh could've tried to work with me instead of starting an argument, like say "I can see why you'd think that and we can repair xyz at discounted rate and if the transmission pan is still leaking then we'll replace that on the house." My wife and I purchased a used Subaru from DC Auto about two months ago. They were kind and repaired some stuck vvt solenoids after a light came on during their warranty period. Later, a transmission-related issue came up, and we ended up taking it to a dealership for repair. As it turned out, the vehicle needed major transmission work done, and had worn out tie rods and ball joints among a list of other smaller issues. Repairs were costly. We were told by the dealership that it should not have passed state inspection (inspected by DC auto). It seems like a classic case of "don't go looking for trouble" when it comes to inspecting a vehicle to be sold. I was the naïve one who gave benefit of the doubt (based on good reviews online) and did not have the car looked over by a different mechanic. Don't make the same mistake that I did. read more

While driving back to Chicago from New York I experienced car problems at 2am. I got off at Bellefonte and got a hotel for the night. In the morning I googled auto repair and headed to Fouty Chalfa. I explained the misfire I was experiencing, chugging (like water in gas) and told them how far away I was. He said he would read the codes (I will always bring mine with next time) and see what it said. It came back with a "misfire" (plug, wire or coil) and cam position sensor. The owner stated either one could of tripped the other and he wouldn't know until he changed a part to see if it fixed it or not. He recommended the cam sensor first, I agreed as I had changed th cap rotor wires and plugs 15k earlier. He said he could get one and it would be $115. I really wasn't in a position to bargain shop lol so I said go ahead and get it done, they had it installed in about 40 minutes and I was on the road home soon after. When I went to pay, I wasn't sure if labor was included (I know how much a cam sensor is for a caravan) when he shot me a he price. I was pleasantly surprised that the $115 was parts and labor. He made a few bucks on the part (as all shops charge exuberant prices on parts, I usually do all my own work) but was more than fair. In all they did a great job, highly recommend. read more

I have been going to Douty Chalfa for several years now, and have been so incredibly pleased with every visit. They are friendly, respectful, and really strive to give the best experience possible. They offer customers options for repairs, and will thoroughly explain (and show you) what is going on with your vehicle, and describe different ways that it can be fixed. They do quality work, and give you all the information to make your own decision about what repair you want/can afford based on your own situation. For example, my exhaust disconnected/rusted out, and they gave me the typical/manufacturer option, but explained that there were other ways that the problem could be resolved that would yield safe and favorable outcomes with much less cost, which I really appreciated. I trust the employees at Douty Chalfa and am impressed with their kindness and quality of work for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend!! I take my vehicle to them for everything from routine oil changes and tire rotations, to minor issues (e.g., lose heat shield) and major issues/repairs, and have received excellent service each time. read more
