I live in the neighborhood and have purchased milkshakes for years (love 'em too). But we finally decided to try an ice cream cake. Ordered Saturday morning and picked up Sunday 11:20. It was for my adult son's birthday and we enjoyed the cake very much. Great ice cream. Decoration was simple and tasteful. We will try to invent a reason to order another soon. read more

So I've been reading all the reviews of this place. I drive past all the time , so we decided to stop in. It was average. I got maple walnut Ice cream, it was okay. The vanilla soft serve was very good , the tres leche was pretty good and the strawberry was okay. It was nice sitting outside and being with.my family. Stopped in after a meal at Dover Grill (next door/connected) and saw a bunch of people gathered outside slurping down big sundaes and banana splits. We decided to keep it rather simple - ordered the Banana soft serve on a cone & the Banana/Peanut Butter twist on a cone. Other soft serve flavors included black raspberry, coconut, mango, and creamsicle (just to name a few). Some of the best soft serve I've ever had. Mmm. Dover Dairy Maid is definitely the best soft serve i've ever had and I'm a soft serve snob. The soft serve is simply amazing, mostly because of how creamy it is. They always have different flavors rotating (like pumpkin, mango, coconut, strawberry, and black raspberry). I have to say it's a bit pricey, especially for the location, but it's honestly worth it. I now live across the country from Dover Dairy Maid, but am sure to make a trip here (usually multiple times) whenever I am back east. This is everything an ice cream shop should be -- small and locally owned, really well priced, and absolutely delicious! Dover Dairy Maid is a great value, especially compared to fancy-shmancy artisanal gelato or the offerings of chains like Baskin Robbins that don't have nearly as good ice cream. A small sundae (with delicious HOMEMADE whipped cream and a topping) runs you about $3, and is still pretty sizable. The medium will be a stand-in for your dinner. I haven't tried much here, because I always get the same fantastic thing: double chocolate ice cream (I forget exactly what it's called, but it's chocolate ice cream w/ chocolate syrup and chocolate brownie chunks mixed right in) with peanut butter topping. The peanut butter topping is divine -- it's sweet but not too sweet, with a great flavor and nice texture. The peanut butter soft serve topped with hot fudge is a good option, too! (Can you tell I like peanut butter and chocolate?) They have sugar free and low fat options, as well. They also sell Italian ice, milkshakes, and ice cream cakes. There's easy street parking around the corner if their tiny little lot is full, and they're only open during spring/summer months. Cash only! read more

Stopped here for dessert after eating at Dover Grill. Got a soft serve vanilla cone that was so rich and creamy it was almost like a thick whipped cream texture and I loved every bite of it. I tried the peanut butter and chocolate flavors as well and they were even more rich than the vanilla. Definitely want to visit again to see what else they have to offer (but next time maybe i won't have such a filling meal beforehand :). read more

Over priced and selling ice cream as a luxury item . No better ,in fact perhaps even a lessor grade then Turkey Hill or Friendlies yet 3 times the price. For a couple scoops of mediocrity you can have an entire quart of something better at Shop Rite usually on sale for 2.50 as opposed to 4.75.The pricing formula remains the same thru out the various different types of items.Yes taxes ,rent,help ,insurance,extra parking,plus a million other things including just an overall experience does cost money but if this is the future of ice cream better to save your money or find a better way to get it. Any Chinese buffet will give you all you can eat large variety PREMIUM GRADE ice cream of better quality at the end of your meal.Same story with soft serve help yourself from the machine. As for being closed half a year the answer to that is quite easy. Find enough people to pay you way too much for 6 months a year and you can go to Florida too or just stay home and not work.Ironically enough my entire opinion would change if the ratio of price and product were more in favor of the consumer. In reality there really is no such thing as bad ice cream,just various grades. In this case the two things are out of sync. No value. One and done.I work to hard to just throw it away. read more

I've driven by Dover Dairy Maid so many times, but I hadn't ventured in until last week. It's a great little shop with some different soft serve options. I'm a huge fan of coconut and as soon as I heard about their coconut soft serve I was sold. They also carry black raspberry soft serve, which is a close second to the coconut. I also had the pleasure of trying their homemade Italian ice. Don't overlook the Italian ice! It's not overly watery and it doesn't have any hard chunks of ice in it. It's definitely homemade. I won't hesitate to return to try some more flavors. read more

seriously the best ice cream ever. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night craving it. I always get the rum raisin with pineapple. Their flavors just taste better, not fake.
