first off, we absolutely LOVE Dover Delite...but last night was a high disappointment! We went there and decided to change it up and ordered a brownie sundae. Big mistake! the brownie was so hard that we couldn't even cut it with a knife! We brought it to the attention of the server and he gladly replaced it and staTed..."this should be better". Well unfortunately it was NOT! we still couldn't bite into it or cut it with a knife. we ended up throwing it out. I have never ordered a brownie sundae there before and I will NOT be ordering another! I think you can do better Dover Delite! Sweetheart and I being new to the area are enjoying all the many local ice cream stands and thought 'Hey let's try here' it will be another choice to work with. We got there and there and there was a bit of a line, I mean a family was getting ice cream no problem. We waited for the girl to take their order, we go up to order and she disappeared from the window. No I'll be right with you. We literally stood there ignored for 5 min. What we observed was 2 teenage girls super overwhelmed with the volume of business and no extra help. Which was very poor management and scheduling skills. This is the beginning of summer it's warm out, of course your stand is going to be busy. So keeping your stand properly staffed is important. After 5 min of waiting and watching these girls try to catch up we gave up and went elsewhere. It's very unlikely we'll go back read more

Best ice cream in Dover!!!! Always new and fun choices. Wish it were open year round.

I've been to a couple of ice cream shops around and this is the best I've had in the area. There's a popular ice cream shop across the street from where I live and there is always a line, but Dover Delite is way better and the line isn't as long as the other place. The chocolate soft serve tasted better and the sherbet freeze was spot on. I had a taste for an icee before coming here but my daughter wanted to try this place out. I'm glad I decided to get a sherbet freeze because this was better than an icee. read more

Okay so Dover Delite doesn't make their own ice cream, and their flavor selection isn't as extensive as their nearest competitor, but I have to explain my four-stars. First, I am biased because I have an ice cream addiction and there aren't many ice cream stands I wouldn't go to. Second, the girl who works at the counter with the long black hair is cute. If you're on yelp: will you marry me? (I swear not for the ice cream...maybe). Third, you can eat ice cream and watch the train come through (trains are cool). This is one of those standard ice cream shacks, and they dont make the ice cream themselves, but it is awesome! I think they serve Shain's of Maine brand ice cream. Block out plenty of time, you are going to have to wait. It takes awhile, even once you order you are going to be there a bit. I will say that you get a good amount for the prices so they have that going for them. My chief complaint, other than the wait, is something that I never thought I would actually complain about. But they put TOO MUCH stuff in their ice cream. I got the confusion, which is a little bit of everything. And while true to it's name, it isn't really ice cream. Once you have passed the 1 to 1 ratio of stuff to ice cream it's really just candy that happens to have some ice cream filling in the voids. As a child I would have DIED for this place. What child doesn't really want a cup full of candy? But as an adult I would actually like to have more than just candy. I actually want some ice cream. And I am guessing it is the norm because I have had the confusion twice and both times it had whole pieces of chocolate, giant cookie pieces and golf ball sized hunks of cookie dough. That is not an exaggeration, they were HUGE. It was too much. Three bites in I had to stop. I started trying to carve the ice cream off of the cookie dough meteors to eat. I then started pulling the cookie dough out. After half way through I gave up and put it in the freezer. I'm going to buy a pint of vanilla and try and mix it together myself. read more

I don't care that they don't make their own ice cream....they carry Shain's of Maine and that's good enough for me! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Maine Tracks. Seriously...I have an addiction. The staff is friendly and is always willing to split an ice cream into two dishes to make my kids (2 &5) happy. Which is a huge plus for any parent with little kids who will NEVER eat a regular size ice cream on their own but can absolutely not share a bowl with their sibling. Oh and the portions at Dover Delite are insanely large! Seriously....go for the small unless you're wearing stretchy pants. I have never tried the food there....it's an ice cream joint and I figure that's what they do best...so I'll leave it at that. But overall....great selection of flavors and great price. However, having an ice cream stand right downtown is just a great thing-- you can walk from the Children's Museum to La Festa to here without much effort.
