My problem was choosing the malt extract: "No problem, just pick the lightest." They were a little low on whole wheat berry varieties, but I didn't need anything special. Making me think that I should invest in a mill. They had 00 flour, too.! Completely unexpected. For brewers, the encyclopedic stock of malted grains and yeast, along with brewing apparatus must make this a popular destination. Prices seem reasonable, but I just don't spend much time in this commercial niche. Contactless payment. Don't know if they take cash.

Good thing Square One Brewery & Distillery was literally a block from where I was staying. I ate dinner there Saturday. Then went back for brunch Sunday. Part convenience, part damn good food. Add perfectly executed (and perfectly salted), piping-hot fries and I was a very happy traveler. I also loved the neighborhood vibe. It's sort of the St. Louis version of "Cheers" -- friendly, relaxed and clearly a place where people know each other.
