Came back to give the new ownership another whirl during happy hour. It was very quiet in here the night we showed up, but we love that happy hour goes until 7pm still. We got the cheese curds which were really good. We also got the two topping pizza and liked the thin crust and sauce was good. Bartender was a familiar face from over the years. This is a Clive staple. It's an old school neighborhood bar with good food. If you want live music and karaoke they have that too... I'm more the be quiet and leave me alone type of guy. Give me a cold beer, some casual conversation with a bartender, and a pound (or two) of the M.R. Wings and I'm a happy camper! read more

Small hole in the wall kind of bar that is relatively clean. Not much seating in the facility. Two pool tables, a few games and dart boards. Staff is friendly but not very attentive. Appetizers are okay, but nothing you can't find at any other bar. If you're in the area, stop on by. If not, find another closer local establishment. read more

We have gone out to many placer and he recently we went back to down Under we went there a while ago and didn't like it but now we got in there and the whole atmosphere and everything is changed wonderful place to play darts pool listen to live music I highly recommend it. read more

Ordered large pizza online. Went to pick up and they had made small pizza. Then gave me another pizza that tasted like last night's leftovers. Was cold and just plain Aweful. No apology or acknowledgment of mistake. Have eaten at this place inside several times and always been hot, fresh and good. Not sure if they have new cook, if so keep looking for a replacement. If not, this place really needs to work on customer service and STOP SELLING YESTERDAY'S MISTAKES!! read more

Birthday Club. All that needs to be said. Seriously though, this place is a decent little hole in the wall bar with a patio, a couple of pool tables, and some dart boards. A good amount of TVs adorn the walls for your sports viewing enjoyment. Drinks are relatively cheap and so is the food on the menu which is typical bar food. Pizzas, fried foods, etc. Usually on Friday's they set out some free finger foods during happy hour. Weekends usually include a band playing after 8:00. The main reason I come here is the birthday club. Show up on your birthday and drink free domestic beer in your souvenir plastic mug all night plus get a free t-shirt and pizza. Absolutely dismal service. Was only about a third full the whole time we were there. Went to watch the Packers versus Bears game. Had to move tables because they wouldn't change any of the five screens to the only NFL game on a Thursday night. We were reseated near the open door which was chilly and very smokey. Nachos appetizer came out and was good. We ordered our entrees. Took well over 45 minutes and likely over an hour to bring out a pork tenderloin sandwich, onion rings, and a hickory chicken sandwich. Waitress provided no explanation, and only comped one of the meals. Apparently she was more interested in socializing and smooching her boyfriend than serving customers. Entrees were below average at best. Tenderloin was dry and overcooked. Chicken sandwich was oily, bacon was soggy, and seemed like it was hastily put together. Once in a blue moon they have a personable bartender working. The rest of the time, they overcharge versus the advertised specials and you have to wait and wait...and wait. The owner/mgr is still the worst - not friendly, can't multi-task, and if you're not a regular you might as well be invisible. Ordered a pretzel 30 min ago and still don't have it! I took my kids there at 6:30 PM for dinner and it was two hours before they brought the final plate of food out. After half an hour the waitress said the big crowd finally left, then she said there was only one cook working, then she said the microwave was shorting out and they were having trouble cooking my potato. I can't remember the last time I ate at a restaurant and didn't leave a tip but I will definitely remember this experience. read more

I have been going to Down Under for years and overall, I am a fan. I don't come here on a routine basis but it is one of my go to spots especially to watch "the game" which means pretty much any game - lots of t.v.s and they are happy to accommodate any request they can. The bar is large and open so there is plenty of room for everyone unless there is a really popular band or something out of the ordinary going on - but nothing wrong with that either! The staff as a whole is great - several long time employees which is usually a good sign for any business. There have been and still are a few bartenders/servers who I feel provide less than desirable service and that is one of the reasons I cannot give Down Under a 5 star rating. The other reason has to do with the food. I love that they have a great number and variety of items. And, I really do like most everything they have - the pizza is quite good, the hot wings and fish are awesome, no complaints on any of the sandwiches. However, the fries are dreadful. I have tried them so many times over the years and they are awful. I would say they are the worst fries I have ever had anywhere. They are always soggy - sometimes greasy and sometimes totally dry, never any flavor and drenching them in any sauce doesn't help because they just get soggier. One of my friends asks for them well done and that doesn't even help. The other fried foods are decent but not great either - other than the new fried pickles and the tenderloin. If they fixed the French fry issue and could somehow get all of the staff provide at least C level service, I would really enjoy this spot. Down Under does have a lot going for it - nice location, good community member, some wonderful employees & managers, solid regular customer base who make others feel welcome, daily specials, etc. I love so many things about DU but there is definitely room for improvement. read more

My favorite place for a drink and bar food. Not sure why previous posts say you can't get food at 5. That is not true. It is served all day...I have never had bad service here, whether I sit at the bar or at a table. If Cupcake is cooking, have him make you a quesadilla. They also do $5 burger baskets on Monday nights, you can't beat those, they are REAL burgers, and come with a side. They have a decent happy hour during the week, and on weekends usually have a band playing. I have found depending on the band, you might not get a seat if you get there too late, but not complaining about a busy bar!!! read more
