A friend wanted to meet here for lunch, and I figured it had been a while, so it was worth trying again. The food was OK, service was great, and I do like the atmosphere. I do wish I was a bigger fan of the food, but it just isn't that memorable for me. On this visit, my friend had the Spinach Artichoke Dip. She said it was good. I had the Hot Honey Chicken Wrap. I chose grilled chicken, which was tender. The wrap overall was a bit sloppy as the honey kind of oozes out all over. It was just ok, and was advertised as having jalapeños, but I didn't notice any. We've driven by this place and talked about stopping for food before and my wife had been there with co-workers after work one day, but this was our first stop for food. A clean, modern storefront greets you (see picture) and with plenty of televisions and a nice patio, it looks to be a hopping place once the temperatures warm up a little. While our server was a little hard to find at times, we both found our food to be quite good. My wife ordered the Nacho Burrito Meal (see picture) and I opted for the Honey Citrus salad (see picture). As is our custom, we shared samples of each of our meals and both of us found both choices to be worthy of ordering again. I really liked the clean, crisp and fresh salad with a delicious tangy dressing and the Burrito was tasty inside and out (loved the creamy, cheesy sauce). If you are looking for a great stop for Sunday morning brunch (possibly after some shopping at Sam's Club just across the interstate to the North), you won't go wrong here! Iowa is noted for large, crunchy and tasty "Pork Tenderloin" which you can get at Gilroy's on 8th in West Des Moines. The Pork Tenderloin is bigger than the bun which fills you up just eating the crunch around the edges and still having enough left over to cut in half and save for take home. The upscale decor is good for small meetups or large groups with a private dining area that allows you to come as you are. My server- Pearl- was very efficient in monitoring my table with the General Manager who is always upbeat. The total vibe allows you to relax and enjoy your meal whether it's a creative Mocktail from a full bar, or just a delicious Dr Pepper with a slice of yummy peach cheesecake. Party of 10 for a birthday. Not busy. Server attentive in getting drinks and first order. Food brought out promptly, though more than 1/2 were missing serving spoons and tongs. No server around to fix so we got our own from the server station. 2nd round of food ordered. Server asked for 1 refill which wasn't brought. Others ran empty on drinks not seeing sever to til asked to pay. Unfortunately a 20% tip is required for parties of 8 or more allowing servers to give poor service and still receive an unearned gratuity. Food was good to great - crispy reds, nachos, loaded scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits gravy, upside pancakes, bacon all good. French toast and Mac cheese were great. I have had take out twice from here and I've gotten their byob (build your own burger) with a gluten free bun and baked sweet potato fries. Both times I have been so happy with my burgers but especially the last time because I added a garlic aioli to it and it was divine. The sweet potato fries are so good as well. My burger has been perfectly made each time too just how I ask for it to be cooked. I can't iterate enough how happy it makes me when I find a place who offers gf options because of my allergy. The service is fast and the ambiance seems good too. I'd like to try going here for brunch because I've heard good things about it as well. Their patio seems perfect for spring/summer time. We were looking for a locally owned place to get a really good hamburger the night we went to Gilroy's and I was excited about choosing all of the toppings they have available. Admittedly it was super busy so that could have contributed but the bun tasted days old and the hamburger was ok and not overly hot. What can I say about gilroys that hasn't already been said about God's only son Jesus christ? Every hour on the hour there is a sumo match and the loser must commit hari-kiri, the whole restaurant is then invited to eat the corpse as a complimentary appetizer. The indoor petting zoo can be noisy but what do expect from screaming goats? The wait staff is lovely and can all do back flips on command. The waiter with the name tag "david" is actually named Robert. Best old fashioned in the state and grits just like momma used to make. 10/10 would dine and do the annual 5k again! read more

I think the service was not so good because when asked what we needed when dropping off our food and we asked for water since our server did have not checked in and then we waited for the water and they were talking and had to go find another person to get service. The server was nice but did not pay attention to their tables. I think for the type of food, it is expensive for you get. Part of the restaurant was closed for corporate Christmas parties, but there was still plenty of seating available and we were seated right away. Menu had a wide range of options but was mostly focused on American style fare. There was a large selection of premium whiskeys/bourbon. The whiskey burger and the pepper jam burger were ordered. They were cooked to order and very tasty. The Parmesan fries were fresh and crispy. On Sundays, it's family Buffett style for around $25. But let me tell you, it's a TON of food, there's a TON of items to choose from, and you even get one take-home box. ‍ We came in around 1pm on Sunday with football in full swing and were able to be seated at the bar. Our waitress had a full section to serve at the bar plus be the bartender for all the drink orders coming in from other servers, and she never missed a beat. She gave great recommendations on food when we ordered, kept our drinks full until our food arrived, and always had an eye on us in case we needed anything else. The food: delicious. I had the citrus salad. Exactly as it sounds and it was very fresh and light. The crispy bacon was just that, crispy and so good. I'm picky on Mac n cheese, so it was a bit dry, but my son loved it, especially the chicken on top. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy and the pancakes were fluffy. I also noticed the array of whisky on the shelf, so I'm going to have to come back for drinks next time and also try their regular menu. Came on Saturday the day before Father's Day. There was an extended menu with additional items including steak and Cajun pasta. The steak was tender and flavorful, but it was Josiah that made brunch amazing. He was very accommodating and fast. Let's start with the good, the service was good, mimosas were flowing and I like the vibe of the place...but little else. My wife and I did the family style brunch and bottomless mimosas. We had the crispy potatoes, breakfast nachos and crispy chicken mac-n-cheese . The potatoes were the best of the three and the that's not saying much. Overall, Gilroy's delights with solid food and great service. We started with wings and cheese curds. These are a nice thinly battered curd, tempura style I think. Wonderful! The fried chicken is legit. Nicely breaded and seasoned, juicy chicken. The green beans were large and some were fairly raw. Thick and just not pleasant to eat. The scalloped potatoes were pretty good, but a bit under seasoned. Just missing something. Also enjoyed the jambalaya pasta with shrimp and sausage. Loved the spices, the veg, the whole dish just worked. The kids meal pizza was very well done and I would have been happy with that as my entree! Lots of places really do the bare minimum with kids meals but thrush pizza tasted great. We had a fairly large group, about 8. This is no regular pub with a patio! This is a gourmet delight in hiding!! The service is delightful. We sat out in the patio which was aerated and comfortable. The pitchers of mules are so worth it!! Recommend the Peach & strawberry mules highly!! We ordered family style to share. The burger is way more than a mouthful and absolutely delicious. On the top of my list of best burgers ever! The pizza was thin crusted and also amazing. All I can say is if your cold-blooded don't come here. It was cold, I left my coat on the whole time and my feet were freezing. I asked our waitress if she could turn up the heat a bit and she said the owner runs the thermostat from his phone. So unless the owner is on location and feels the chill, it won't get warmer. ‍. We had a Groupon so stopped on a rainy day for a 3:30 pm meal. Was it lunch? No lunch specials. Was it dinner? Burger special didn't start until 5 pm. Was it happy hour? My best friend and I went to Gilroy's last Sunday for all you can eat brunch & drinks. Their Bloody Mary was delicious and spicy. Did not come with bacon, but you can have it added or add it yourself when you order bacon off the brunch menu. My friend had a mimosa and she loved it. This was my 2nd time to this restaurant. The service was bad on my first visit but not bad enough to not give it a second chance. But after this visit, I won't be back. The service is just too awful! You wait forever for every step in the process. What should have been a quick happy hour (they weren't even busy!) turned into a 2.5 hr event because we couldn't get service. Yep they don't skimp on the toppings here and it packs a punch! If you go on a Sunday they have 7 dollar pizza and they are fantastic.. Also when ordering the fries make sure if you want them vegan to let them know! The fries are really good without that cheese who needs it! (im sure its good too!)
