Walked in Friday morning in need of a haircut. Don't remember my barber's name but I think it was Bianca or Blanca. First, she asked what I wanted and I told her I want an undercut. She tried to educate me and tell me that what I wanted was a fade (she blended ok, but left the hair on the upper sides of my hair longer which is a style i'm ok with cause I've had it for years but I wanted a shorter length taken all the way up to where my hair parts-- an undercut). If that wasn't bad enough she had the audacity to criticize my barber I normally go to back home in California when she ended up cutting my neck. No apology from her, she just brushed off the hair and told the man in the front to charge me $30. Don't go here. It might be clean, but it sure doesn't look like it is because it's so messy and disorganized. I was thankful to get a haircut so early just before 9am, but horrible experience and too pricey of a cut for the quality and experience of the shop. read more

Absolute shame. Apparently if you're a new customer you will be passed up until every local has been served before you. Worst experience I've ever had a barber shop, to be passed up for 2 other customers in front of your face and then the owner claims it's a miscommunication issue. Had to get my hair cut over my lunch break. Called ahead and was assured by the fella on the other end there was no wait. Got there, walked in the door and was sat immediately in the first chain in the joint. A gentleman who introduced himself to me as Eddie went to work and gave me the best cut and straight razor I have had in years. Before I knew it he was done and in only 25 minutes. I will be making this place a monthly visit over my lunch hour. Eddie is an artist in his trade and a pillar to the downtown community. Good haircut, good price. They took their time and asked me exactly what I wanted. It's a small place with only three chairs, so it could be a bit of a wait if there's a crowd. Everyone was really friendly and I'll definitely be coming back. Caveat: The normal cut is $18, but there's a $2 student discount. I realized this all too late as I was walking out but now I know for next time. Also know that they add a $2 charge if you use any credit card. I think that's a rip-off (knowing that cards only take at most 3% of the sale) but I digress. I'll be sure to bring cash with me next time. Eddie the owner really knows how to trim a beard. It is hard to find someone who does a really good thorough job. I have had my hair cut by one of the ladies who works there and it was a good cut. Also, the shoe shine guy there is top notch. Prices are on par for what you pay downtown. read more

Great Place for a Haircut and More - This is a real gem of a place. It reminds me of going to get my haircut at the barber as a kid on Saturday mornings. Eddie the Barber is a really friendly guy and a great barber as well. I also met and talked to a couple local guys and the atmosphere makes it seem like everyone is an old friend. I have already encouraged some of my friends to give up on their current barber or 'stylist' and give this place a shot. They wont regret it. This place was recommended to me by some regulars at my bar. He was going on and on about it, so I figured why not support andother downtown business. I'm so glad that I did! I got the best haircut of my life! And that's not easy for me to find being that my hair is so thick and curly. They were super professional and even offered me a beer while I was getting my haircut at no extra charge. They kept me happy and engaged in conversation and even made me laugh a few times. This is good because I usually hate getting my haircut when there's an akward silence with the barber. These Russian guys are just overall nice people and very caring. I noticed that my parking meter was about to expire and they gave me quarters for free and even offered to run out to my car. I highly recommend this place to anyone in need of a relaxing and great haircut experience. And for $16 dollars...it's a steal! I'd pay $25! read more

Not a stranger walked into Eddie's place and he even took the time to stay open late to get me in. Eddie and his staff are more concerned with the quality of your haircut than the number of clients they can get in and out of the door. After trying both Gentlemen Joe's and Boxer's, I gave the Downtown Barbershop a try. This place is great; far better service than the previously mentioned establishments. Boxer's tried to give me the hair cut they thought I should have and Gentlemen Joe's just couldn't seem to get it right, but at the Downtown Barbershop, the atmosphere is great, you walk out with exactly what you want, and the price is just right. Love the place. My dad was a barber so I have an affinity to small non chain barber shops. Have not not found one since moving to Arizona until now. They do a great job for a reasonable price ($16) and have been more then pleased with the quality of the haircuts. There is always good conversation, Eddie is a hoot, and everyone in the shop seems to join in. The decor is eclectic but makes you feel very comfortable. Went for a straight razor shave... Excellent!! Or !! Trimmed down with a razor then trimmed around the ears... Did the shave with all the trimmings! Quite good attention to detail and of course the hot towels felt great. To end it he straight razored the side burns and back of the neck and as if that wasn't enough he styled my hair as if he just cut it too! He went way above and beyond to make sure I would be a return client and yes I will be back.. This place just won over a new client! Excellent job and highly recommend this place.. Fantastic place. I have been going every other week for about 8 months now. I have strayed a couple of times, going to more expensive barber shops thinking that I would have a magical haircut that would completely change my hair ( I have a ton of damn cowlicks) but I always come back. $16 for students, $18 for just a regular cut. I do wish that their straight razor shaves were a bit less money but it's usually a luxury I indulge in only on occasion. I always feel welcome and truly enjoy getting my haircut here. There was no waiting on the Monday morning I dropped in for a haircut. The barber I has was a Hispanic woman about 47-50 years of age. She was pleasant enough but her command of English was not good. I asked her to shampoo my hair before cutting it because it had lots of gel- mouse - spray etc. it was also three months since the last haircut so I had a lot of hair to cut. She immediately started to hack in my hair with thinning shears! I stopped her and explained that my hair did not respond well to thinning shears. She neglected to wash my hair before cutting it which concerned me but I assumed she was a licensed barber and knew what she was doing. Talk about a mistaken assumption!! At this point she had struggled with cutting my hair for over an hour! Then she started to re-drape me for the shampoo. I told her to skip the shampoo because I was tired of sitting there for an hour while she had great difficulty cutting my hair. She tried to comb my hair but she was careful not to offer me a mirror with which I could check the back and sides and crown areas. I got home and my hair looked like it had been hacked on with a broken beer bottle! The back was chewed up and uneven beyond my worst nightmare! The sides were uneven and there were four and five inch long clumps of hair in areas where the rest was only 2-3 inches long. Next day I went to a high priced Scottsdale hair salon and they recut it in an effort to make it better. To really get it back to the length and style I prefer will mean growing it out for three or four months Bottom line - if you're fussy about how your hair is cut - avoid this place like the bubonic plague! This barber doesn't know how to cut hair unless she can hack it to hell with thinning shears! How she maintains a license to barber is a source of wonder and amazement to me. If you're downtown and need a haircut- go any place else! This shop should be avoided at all costs!! Bye the way, when I paid the $25 tab I paid the cash to the owner. He saw how bad it looked but said nothing to me. Embarrassed or ashamed? Maybe, but he didn't lift a finger to try to fix my hideous excuse for a haircut! I'd give this place a negative number of stars if that were possible. Since it's not I'll give it a single star. Mostly because they were actually open. I'm disgusted and disappointed with this shop. And the female barber I got was pathetically inept at cutting hair - IMHO!! I'll never go back to this shop and I'd seriously advise you to avoid it at all costs, too! read more
