This is one of the best offices I have been to for optometry. The doctor is so nice and professional. Her staff is the same. They are all very thorough and knowledgeable about the field. When I had issues with my glasses, they set up an appointment and corrected it immediately. I love the fact that I can text them and they respond back appropriately. I appreciate the one on one appointment set ups and care taken to make sure I am happy with everything. Unsatisfied customer! In my opinion, it's a small, cold dirty office with a limited selection of frames to choose from. They pressured to upgrade to progressive lens just because it was covered by insurance. I wanted simple reading glasses, but they gave me "computer" glasses instead. Funny thing is that they only work on my computer from 4 feet away. I tried to rectify twice, their only response is that I need to see the doctor again. I don't have time to take off of work again, because they only offer appointments from 10:30-5. I'll have to wait another year, then find another place to give me the lens I want. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here adjusting my glasses after another provider at another facility provided me with the wrong prescription. Everyone here was so professional. I was able to communicate with them easily via text to set up my appointment. Dr Barnes was very knowledgeable and professional and pointed out all the issues with my prior glasses which is why I could not see properly from them. Her profile shows her many years of experience which made me confident in her abilities. The front office staff was so nice and courteous. They were COVID compliant and I felt safe in their office as a senior citizen. I appreciate how they did not push any aggressive sales tactics on me and understood that I just want something basic that did the job. Dr. Barnes is the best! She has been my optometrist for 20 years and is the perfect combination of efficient, friendly and informative. I also seem to have the best luck finding frames here and her staff is always super helpful. I no longer work downtown but found the trip was worth it for my annual exam. I also appreciate that when I recently had my cornea scratched and called her for feedback she called back to confirm that what I was experiencing was normal and I was doing everything right. I decided it was time to purchase new lenses for my favorite frames. I decided to go to Downtown LA Optometric Vision Center. Best decision I could have made! I had Joel help me. His knowledge of transition lens is impressive. Because of COVID we had to communicate via texting. His customer service is second to none. He was very responsive & proactive in assisting me in making the right choice. Once I agreed with his suggestion, Joel told me it would be 2-3 weeks before my glasses would be done. 10 days later he sent me a text informing me that my glasses were ready. I was extremely happy that I didn't have to wait 3 weeks. No surprises with my new transition lenses! Very happy! I totally forgot to update my review after all my prescription stuff got settled but.. oh my god. How the HELL this place is rated so high is beyond me. I wonder how many people walk out of here with incorrect prescriptions. So when I went back the third time cause damn contacts just weren't working out for me (slightly blurry but I seriously felt like I had vertigo, just didn't feel good), I asked her if she checked me out for astigmatism (I've had mild astigmatism since the 2nd grade) she said no. I decided to go to another optometrist (one of my old ones in Irvine). His findings were: * -8.5 and -8.0 contact prescriptions *Acuvue 2 because I indeed have mild astigmatism (not enough to get astigmatism contacts like Oasis with Astigmatism) and Acuvue 2 helps adjust for it. He looked at the contacts she prescribed me and was literally like why moron prescribed you these? Anyways. She may be nice as hell and quite pleasant to talk to, but quite plainly she sucks. read more

I work upstairs in the building and I have to go downstairs to make an appointment because these people NEVER pick up the phone. They have a recording saying they will call you back "within the hour" and NEVER DO. It is the size of a small shoebox, there is never anyone in there and they cant even pick up the phone. I post this after MULTIPLE times experiencing this over the courser of 2.5 yrs. Very unprofessional. Aside from not getting through to them when you need to, they are not bad, despite what others posted here. Staff is nice, which they should be seeing as you have to go there because none picks up the phone. read more

I ended up canceling my appointment due to the office not being transparent on how they were billing the insurance. I have the highest level of vision insurance and once they saw that they started adding additional exams unnecessarily to increase the amount that they were charging to the insurance. Being a downtown resident, I faithfully went year after year to my old standby eye doctor in the Macy's Plaza. On a lark I decided to visit Dr. Barnes at the Downtown LA Optometric Vision Center after receiving a coupon for 20% off on the Ralph's pharmacy bag. Like other patrons here, I was very impressed with Dr. Barnes patient interaction w/me. She explained everything very throughly and gave me some tips on how I can stretch my contact lenses longer. I really appreciated how friendly and helpful she and her staff were and have now found my new "go-to" eye doctor. Bonus is that they will give you free eye solution if you run out! Granted, it's the travel size that they likely get comped from the vendor but still, it's much appreciated and just another example of how they go the extra step to take care of their customers. read more

I needed my eyes checked ASAP and only had one hour before I had to leave the area, so I called this office and they were able to fit me in right away! I was so relieved. Although making an appointment is always preferred, I think this place is extremely flexible in that they will try to accommodate people in a rush! It was $89 for my visit, but included a follow up visit a week later -- so I would say that's pretty fair! read more

I agree with Kathy C's review. This place is a joke. Went because it's close to work around mid-day, mid-week and I had been experiencing a little fuzziness with night driving. The receptionist area was a hot mess and unprofessional (lunch out and the smell everywhere). Waste baskets around the store hadn't been emptied, carpet dirty. The doctor was very nice, but the all the equipment looked old. I assume it didn't work right either (or the doctor was completely incompetent) because I was told after the exam that one eye was myopic and the other had astigmatism and was written a prescription. I found this odd because in the 15+ years since my eyes starting going bad they have always progressed the same and even when I got lasik several years back they weren't that bad (both nearsighted). Whatever, I took it to another place to get the prescription filled. Get my glasses and it's like I'm looking out of a fishbowl and I get an immediate headache. The prescription was obviously completely out of wack. Got another exam somewhere else and low and behold, I still have 20/20 vision. I was prescribed lenses with a type of filter to help w/the fuzziness with the light at night. All this I had to pay for out of pocket because my vision insurance was wasted on Downtown LA Optometric. Save your eyes and skip this place. read more

I Did a "walk-through" of the office to eyeglass shop.... they had a cool array of frames but I graded them 3/5 because the reception desk was cluttered and didn't appear clean at all. Papers and junk everywhere even on the floor and the systems needed a major wipe down That one thing turned me off from ordering frames from them. read more

I was out of contacts and when my old optometrist office told me they wouldn't be refilling my prescription even though IT WAS STILL VALID (so I would have to pay for a new exam, etc.) I decided it was time to find someone better. I found this place on Yelp after calling some others that did not accept Davis Vision and I'm so glad I chose Dr. Barnes! Because I got a new doctor, my insurance required me to get a new vision exam anyways. I was dreading it. Like, does anyone have time to wait at an office for an already lengthy exam? But to my surprise, I was in and out within 45 minutes. This included paperwork time and the office staff calling Davis for me. My contacts were ready for me within the week and picking them up took less than 2 minutes. The doctor herself is HILARIOUS and extremely efficient (as previously stated). She has pretty good hours and I was able to easily make/change my appointment. I would highly recommend her and this office! Tip: If you don't work/live within walking distance, Figat7th probably has the cheapest parking and is a 5-10 minute walk away. read more

Seriously, nothing makes the world shine a little brighter than an awesome pair of new glasses or contacts!! I walked out of here looking at the lovely streets of DTLA with a whole new appreciation. I mean, I could see the leaves! The tops of buildings! Was pretty spectacular. They say that you shouldn't be picking dr's off yelp ratings, but Dr. Barnes is the real 5-star deal. I was in and out with a full eye exam for contacts in under an hr! Great for a DTLA professional with little time. Dr. Barnes also was super friendly and knowledgeable, in addition to professional and just plain awesome. She explains each procedure, part, picture in a science-based way that is not at all boring or intimidating, but that helps you understand what's going on with your eyes, and that helps you become part of your own health care!! AWESOME! The staff are equally AMAZING! Roxie helped me with my first pair of contacts and was so patient as I painstakingly asked if it was flipped inside out, or if I could hurt myself. So nice! I would highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area. This cute little shop is perfectly located on 6th street between Hope St. and Grand Ave., right next to the dry cleaners. Before seeing Dr. Barnes I had put off having an eye exam for almost 7 years. I finally had to get an eye exam done & found this office. The location was perfect for me since it happens to be walking distance from home and work! When I called to make an appointment, I was surprised at how quickly they were able to fit me in. I went on my lunch break, and it worked out perfectly. Dr. Barnes walked me through each step of the exam and why each part was so important. The results of every test were explained to me with detail, yet in a way that I was able to completely understand. The ONLY negative was the variety of available eye wear samples in-office. I was able to order frames, but since it was my first time getting glasses, I would have preferred to have more styles to choose from to make a choice there. I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking to find a trustworthy, professional and highly knowledgeable office to meet their optical needs! read more

After getting my eyes examined I referred my roommate and my boyfriend. They both loved her as well. I just moved downtown and needed my early eye exam for contacts. had this place recommended to me and it took my insurance so i tried it out! i had absolutely no issues at all and everything was so easy. Dr. Barnes was very helpful and seemed like she really cared about my vision. when she didn't have my prescription to try out she made sure to order several ones for me to try so i could find the perfect fit. Once i decided i liked the pair she had me try, then i ordered a yearly supply from them. They were reasonably priced and they gave me a rebate form. front staff is nice & helpful, too. they called me the day my contacts came in so i could get them asap! long story short, very good experience and i would recommend this place :) i took off one star because parking is a bitch around there and i don't think they validate (maybe i'm wrong, which would be great). i walked there for my appt so i didn't have an issue but when I had to pick my contacts up and i was in a rush, all i could find easily was the garage under them which was $2.50 for each 15 mins. read more

Wow that was the cheapest, most pleasant eye exam I've ever had. I made the appointment last minute and Dr. Barnes was available to see me right away. She is a very capable optometrist, not to mention a very sweet lady. I got an eye exam to update my contact lenses and glasses prescription. She checked everything for only $65 (without insurance). Frankly speaking, I don't like writing reviews but I have never seen anything shady like this. I took my Prada glasses to be adjusted and they heated up my $700 glasses(never seen anything like this) to adjust it and screwed them up. There are lots of scratches and the clear coat of glasses came off...BEWARE!!! THE WORST!!! read more

(15 May UPDATE): So I added a star because I found out that the glasses were actually transitions. So that was my mistake. I'm still not impressed, however, because I called about what I thought was the mixup and got no return call. I had to once again hustle over to the place for them to explain to me that the transition is slighter than you usually expect. (4 May UPDATE): I also don't know why this place gets 5 stars in these other reviews. I assume it's because the doctor is very pleasant and does a great job of explaining the procedures and what not of the eye exam but I'm rather annoyed with the place to be honest. After I finally made the time to reschedule (per the original review below) I finally came in and they forgot about my contact consultation in addition to the eye exam. So they asked me to come back...again. I stopped in briefly to pick up my glasses from the previous visit. I got them home and they weren't transition lenses even though the receipt had billed me for transition lenses. So now I have to go back AGAIN to drop them off and YET AGAIN to pick them up again. Given that the hours aren't really convenient for me since I live but don't work Downtown, it's really annoying that I have to keep doing things over and over again. ORIGINAL Review: They're probably as good as many of the other reviews state but I was annoyed by their inflexibility. I found myself in a jam after I somehow broke glasses. I live Downtown but work across town and they only take appointments between 10:30 and 4:00 so I had to do some juggling at work to get in to see the doctor. Well I got a 4:00 appointment for about a week later. En route to the appointment, I called to say that traffic was heavier than normal and I'd be 10 mins late. They canceled my appointment. Yes, I realize punctuality is important but I was annoyed that they couldn't accommodate 10 minutes considering that people probably jump through hoops and spend their goodwill with their employers to even entertain these "Bankers' Hours" appointments. read more
