First time here, and it was hard to find a clinic that offers Otis & Piper frames covered by our insurance. I called the same day and was able to get an open appointment with Balfour & Shapiro Optometry for my son with Dr. Shapiro. That alone was a win. The clinic is located on Broadway between 5th and 6th Street in DTLA. I dropped my son off to find parking, and by the time I walked in, he was already picking out frames. The process moved fast and felt easy. Dr. Shapiro came out a few minutes later to speak with me and asked if I had any questions. That meant a lot. Our insurance only covered a specific frame brand. They had four Otis & Piper options, which were nice, but my son wanted a different frame from the wall. We paid an extra $55 for the frame he chose. I also upgraded his lenses with blue light protection, which was only $15 more with insurance. No pressure. No pushy front office staff. No forcing a second pair of glasses. Just clear choices. We were in and out in under an hour. The front desk was friendly and easy to talk to. Everything was ready when I came back to sign papers, pay for the upgrades, and pick him up. The eye exam results were neatly placed in an envelope. Parking in DTLA is tough, as expected. There are four metered street parking spots closest to the clinic, located in front of the Donut Friend shop, about four shops away. Always check for temporary "No Parking" signs before leaving your car. There is also a parking garage around the corner on 6th Street, within walking distance. Other nearby metered parking accepts coins or credit cards. Parking structures nearby are cash only and usually cost around $22-$25. Even with the parking hassle and traffic, the clinic experience itself was smooth and calm. No stress. No chaos. Just a good visit. Next time, I'll arrive about 30 minutes early to allow time to find parking and still make it to the appointment on time. Minus one star for limited parking access. That's due to the location, not the clinic itself. Plan your appointment accordingly and arrive early to account for parking. read more

I love this office and Dr. Shapiro! He really throughly exams your eyes, and everybody in this office is really nice too. I went to other optometrist while I was out of state, but he found that my prescriptions were too strong and lowered it down. The office staff explained my benefits to me, and was patient while I was figuring out my options. The prices for the contact lenses are slightly more expensive compared to buying online, but that's expected. Will be back, thank you! read more

Dr, Shapiro is an excellent diabetic eye doctor!! He uses mutiple testing machines to thoroughly check for any signs of cataracts and diabetes related compliations. I have been visiting Dr, Shapiro for over 20 years, and I would highly recommend this Optometry office!!! read more

My favorite Optometry Office! Dr Shapiro has a very reassuring demeanor as he does the eye exam. He gently described my eye diagnosis after multiple tests, including an HRT II scanner. Then Dr Shapiro took me down to the main floor with my prescription and gave the details and measurements to the very helpful and patient staff who helped me choose a frame.
